Chapter 4

"Again!!!" Winsor roared, slamming his sword into Jaune's shield, knocking the boy over.

Jaune stood, and warily circled around Winsor with his sword drawn and shield up. The low temperature in the room numbed the boy's fingers and hands, which Winsor insisted would help Jaune.

"It'll grow some hair on your face and chest, laddie." Winsor had said.

"Pay attention, Ruby!" Winsor snapped as Ruby rolled past him, having tripped on a piece of ice.

"You put that there on purpose!" Ruby wailed.

"Yes. Pay more attention, and you won't be slipping." the white-haired boy replied.

Jaune took the moment of distraction to attack, promptly being knocked over by a large frozen mass.

"Remember, if I can totally fortify the area around me, then distract me. Use one person as bait, and have the other to attack. Work together, not alone." Winsor ordered. To Ruby, the boy was starting to sound tired, so maybe if she was fast enough...

Ruby saw an opening, and raced toward it. Then, the girl fell flat on her face as Winsor coated her legs in ice. She slid past the white-haired boy as he crossed swords with Jaune, who had made it past the frozen rose vines that served as barbed wire.

Then, a frozen copy of Weiss attacked Jaune, who fell over as his legs were swept out from under him by Winsor.

When Ruby finally stood, Winsor was on his hands and knees, breathing hard with beads of sweat dripping from his forehead and onto the ice, despite the fact that the room was roughly forty degrees colder than it usually was. Ruby took the opening, and rushed at Winsor, who flopped onto the floor, causing Ruby to fly over his head.

"Cernunnos, attack!" Winsor exclaimed. A large frozen humanoid with large horns and a massive club emerged from a frozen mass and charged at Jaune, who was busy fending off the frozen Weiss clone. The poor boy was flung across the room as Cernunnos swung its club into Jaune and the Weiss clone, shattering the latter entity. A buzzer sounded as Jaune's aura was pushed into the red.

Ruby gunned for Winsor once more, but an ice construct of the girl herself emerged from the frozen floor, and viciously hacked at the real Ruby, forcing the girl back.

"Cernunnos, begone!" Winsor shouted, struggling to his feet.

As the large construct crumbled into the ice it had emerged from, Winsor seemed to regain his strength, and assisted the other construct in attacking Ruby.

Soon, a buzzer announced that Ruby's aura was also in the red. When the three students looked up, they noticed that Winsor's aura was dangerously close to falling into the red.

"Good job, you two. That was a lot of fun, and it gave me a better idea of what we are working with, and what you need to work on." Winsor said, melting the ice in the room with a wave of his hand.

The boy pointed at Jaune. "You need to be quicker on your feet. Sometimes, you'll be alone and you'll have to come up with a plan to get yourself out of a situation. If you had seen Cernunnos approaching, you could have moved away and let it destroy the Weiss construct. Instead, you were held up attempting to stop the other construct, and Cernunnos got the drop on you. He could have seriously hurt you if that was my intent." Winsor said.

"But it's just training!" Jaune replied.

"Treat it like a real fight for your life, Jaune. Next time, Cernunnos may not be so gentle." Winsor said. Then he turned to Ruby. "You, young lady, need to work on being less scatterbrained when in a fight. I had an entire area locked down, and I could have killed you if I were trying hard enough. Sometimes, being fast isn't good enough. Forethought is one of the most important things you need to work on."

"But-" Ruby began, but Winsor continued.

"Your speed won't help if I know where you're gonna go. You are going straight? Bam, wall. You use your speed in random bursts, and that could get you hurt. Plan ahead, especially against people with a semblance like mine." Winor finished. "Please call Weiss and Pyrrha. I need to train with them a little bit, and you two are welcome to watch."

~~~A short time later~~~
"Today, ladies, you are going to attempt to beat me in a two-on-one. Semblances are allowed, and you may use whatever you need to in order to achieve victory." Winsor announced. Weiss and Pyrrha nodded, and both took their battle poses while Winsor raised Cu Chulainn and Gessa.
"Begin!" Ruby shouted.
Weiss created a ring of glyphs around her brother, and began skipping around the boy as Pyrrha took the boy head-on. With a shout, Winsor froze the majority of the room and anything that happened to be touching it, like Pyrrha's boots.
With Pyrrha temporarily out of commission, Winsor focused entirely on attacking Weiss with Gessa and a construct of Yang. The construct didn't have feet, and acted more like a turret than a person as it stood in one place and fired spheres of ice at high speed.
One sphere finally hit its mark, nailing Weiss in the foot and knocking the girl off balance long enough for Winsor to form an old construct that simply charged at Weiss and pinned the girl to a wall as Pyrrha freed herself.
Pyrrha attempted to sweep Winsor's legs out from under him, but he froze his own feet to the ground and shot a snowball into Pyrrha's face, startling the Mistralian champion. Winsor took the opportunity to slide away from the redhead and form a construct of Jaune, which attacked Pyrrha after emitting a loud screech not unlike metal scraping against metal.
While Pyrrha defended herself against the Jaune construct, Weiss had managed to free herself from the large knight construct, which lay in pieces around her feet.
Both Schnee siblings rushed at each other, various Dust effects and bullets filling the space between the two. Eventually, the siblings collided in a flurry of Dust and steel, with Myrtenaster slamming into Winsor's shield.
Weiss let out a frustrated sound as Winsor catapulted her across the room, breathing hard. Pyrrha stood beside Weiss, her weapons at the ready. The three students glanced up at the scoreboard, only to discover that all three of them were in the orange, with Pyrrha's being closest to the yellow and the Schnee siblings being about equally low.
"Oighear dubh!" Winsor shouted, stomping his foot. A near-invisible sheet of ice covered the entire floor of the arena, causing both Weiss and Pyrrha to lose their footing and fall to the floor.
Several agonizing minutes later, Pyrrha had finally remembered that she had a rifle, and ended the battle with a few well-placed bullets. Winsor snapped his fingers, and the ice vanished, allowing the other two students to leave.
After Weiss and Pyrrha had left, Winsor turned to Jaune and Ruby.
"Let's go over what you learned. Come on down, and I'll beat some stuff into your heads. Chop chop, kiddos!" Winsor called.
"You and I are the same age..." Jaune muttered.
"That may be the case, but still! I reserve the right to call you two kids. C'mon, let's go!" Winsor exclaimed excitedly. Jaune and Ruby sighed, and the two trudged back into the arena where Winsor waited, bouncing up and down.
"Who's ready to experience some hypothermia?!?" Winsor laughed, frost spreading across his hands.
"This is gonna be one of those training sessions, isn't it...? Jaune groaned.
"Yep! Let's get the ball rolling!!!" Winsor exclaimed. "Begin!"
Oighear Dubh: Black ice. Oighear is pronounced like 'oi er'. I have no idea how to say dubh.
