CHAPTER 15
A soft knock on my bedroom door awakens me from my sleep. I rub my eyes and drop my feet to the side of the bed, trying to find my slippers as the person at the door continues to knock. I succeed and drag myself over to the door. My eyes open wide once I see who is behind the door and, worse, the state she is in.
"Camila," I say, shocked to see her. "What are you doing here? What happened? Why are you wet? Did you walk in the rain?" I fire questions at her without even giving her a second to answer.
Camila looks up from the ground, and her bloodshot eyes stare back at me. My gaze softens as I realize she must have been crying. Camila begins to sob as I quickly pull her into a hug, not caring that she is drenched. Camila's legs give out, and I follow her to the ground. I don't ask her any new questions and let her cry it out. I say soothing words as big wails escape her. I don't know what happened, but I can guess it has something to do with the heart because of the way she is crying.
After what feels like forever, Camila finally starts to calm down and stops crying. I move her head away from my chest and look at her face. She sniffs a little as she stares at me. Not saying a word, I lift us off the floor and walk her to my bathroom. I fill the bathtub with warm water and ask Camila to take her wet clothes off. Once the tub is full, Camila steps inside, and I sit on the toilet seat in case she needs anything.
The bathroom is dead silent; the only noise in the room is the water splashing on the floor whenever Camila moves a little in the tub.
"You were right," Camila says, staring at me with red-rimmed eyes.
"About what?" I ask softly. At least she's talking now.
"About Danny," she says, playing with the foam from the bubbles I poured into the tub.
"You caught him?"
"Yes, and you won't believe with who."
"Who?" I thought I would be happy when this day came, but all I feel is sadness. It must have crushed her when she walked in on him. I can't even imagine.
"My secretary."
"Jessica," I gasp, shocked.
"Yes, and do you know the worst part?"
"No."
"For a split second, I thought of forgiving him and forgetting all about it."
"Why didn't you?" I am so happy she didn't.
"The days he would go off the grid finally made sense to me in that moment. The shame I felt when I realized I was the biggest fool on this earth for not realizing sooner was overwhelming, Lilah. Even Jessica laughed at how long it took me."
"It's not your fault you are just finding out now. You were the perfect girlfriend to Danny, and it's his loss that he couldn't see that. Don't beat yourself up for not realizing he was not worth your time sooner." As I speak, I move closer to sit by the tub, wiping away her tears as they start to fall again.
"I actually thought you would laugh at me, too."
"Are you crazy? I would never do such a thing. You are my best friend; I'll always make you feel better, not worse."
"Thank you so much for being a good friend, Lilah," Camila says, removing her hands from the water and giving my hand a tight squeeze.
"You're welcome" I squeeze her hand back.

The following morning, I go downstairs into the dining room with Camila close behind. She is feeling so much better this morning. I kiss dad on the cheeks before I take my seat beside him. Camila takes the seat on my other side.
"Good morning, Uncle Fred," Camila says with a tight-lipped smile. I'm sure she doesn't want him to ask her why she looks sad, so she is trying her best to look normal.
"How are you doing, dear? Sarah told me you came in late last night drenched from the rain. I hope everything is okay."
Sarah is our housekeeper. She must have been the one who opened the front door for Camila last night.
"I am doing much better."
"That's good to hear." Dad turns and faces me. "Delilah, where is Axel?"
"I'm not sure when his flight got in, so he might still be sleeping."
"I am not," Axel says, walking into the dining room. I roll my eyes and continue to eat my food. "Oh my God," Axel gushes when his eyes land on Camila. He walks toward her. "Has anyone ever told you that you are the most beautiful woman on this earth?" He says, never breaking his stare. Camila's cheeks heat up as he continues to gaze at her. Axel takes her hand into his and places a small peck on it.
"Will you move away from her?" I slap his hand before turning to Camila. "I am so sorry he did that," I say. "Please forgive my little cousin." Axel is far from little. But I know calling him that will annoy him.
"It's fine," Camila says, adjusting her hair to hide her flushed cheeks. I am not surprised at her reaction. I might be older than him by four years, but I would blush, too, if we were not related, and he complimented me.
Axel is young and very handsome. Any woman would find him attractive with his grayish-blue eyes and pitch-black hair. Plus, he is light skinned with a sharp jawline and pink lips, which makes girls go crazy. Axel is of mixed race. His father is American, while his mother, my father's sister, is Nigerian. He lives in Chicago but is visiting us for a few weeks.
"I am far from little, Lilah," he says, winking at me.
"If you wink at me again, I'll poke your eyes out." I point my fork at him.
"You are breaking my heart, Lilah."
"Can you just sit down and eat?"
"Sure." Axel takes a seat beside Camila.
"Why are you sitting beside her? Go sit down at the other side."
"I want to get to know her, so I need to sit beside her."
"Don't make me hit you this early in the morning; leave her alone."
"You sound like a violent person, do you know that, Lilah?"
"Don't make me get up and push you away from her."
The last thing Camila needs is a player like my cousin disturbing her after she just got her heart broken. I know he hasn't done anything yet, but I know my cousin. Give him two weeks and he could make Camila forget Danny ever existed. I can't even count the number of girlfriends this boy has had in his twenty-one years of existence.
"It's fine, Lilah. I don't mind him sitting beside me." Camila chimed in.
"Who cares? I mind. Get away from her, Axel." I stand up from my seat and point to the chairs on the opposite side.
"Are you really going to hit me to make me move?" Axel smirks at me as he asks. He rests back in the chair and folds his arms across his chest.
"Continue to sit there, and you will find out."
He is about to open his mouth, but I raise my hand like I am going to hit him. I don't actually plan to, but he doesn't know that.
His eyes widen. "I am leaving; you don't have to hit me." He gets up from the seat beside Camila.
"Better for you," I say, sitting back down.
"You're behaving like a woman who's about to start menopause." Axel says once he settles in at the other end of the table.
"Axel," Dad speaks before I can. "Stop agitating your cousin this early in the morning."
"It's her that wanted to ruin my chance with her friend before I could even bring out the big guns."
Camila chuckles a little as he says this. I close my eyes and shake my head at him.
"I don't have time to deal with you this morning. So, I'm going to ignore what you just said."
"Good choice," he says, smiling while I roll my eyes.
***
"Beau," I moan as he rains kisses on my neck. "What if someone sees us?" I wrap my legs around his waist as he hoists me off the ground.
"I locked the door," Beau says, out of breath. His lips land back on mine in a passionate kiss. My ass touches something cold as Beau removes my legs from around his waist. My legs hang down, almost touching the ground, and I realize he's placed me on my desk. How he got in my office and how we ended up in a make-out session is a mystery to me.
Beau's mouth leaves mine as he begins to kiss my neck again. He rips my shirt open and continues kissing in a downward trail. My skin burns with pleasure. His hands roam my thighs as he pushes my skirt up. Beau's lips leave my skin, and a small cry escapes as I immediately miss his hot mouth against my body. But then he bends down, lifts my legs, and places them over his shoulders. His mouth returns, showering my thighs with kisses. I moan as Beau grabs my ass, squeezing hard as he pulls my body closer to his. His hand moves to my waist, and he rips my G-string off. Without warning, I feel his hot mouth against my core, and his amazing tongue begins to work its magic. I grip Beau's hair tightly as he uses his fingers to part me wider, allowing his tongue to move in and out of me faster. My back arches in response. Beau is making it his life mission to see me cum this afternoon. I wrap my legs around Beau's head and pull him closer to me. My release is fast approaching, and I moan his name. It's so close.
"Just a little more, Beau; I'm almost there," I pant, as my eyes open and close to the rhythm of Beau's thrusts.
I can feel my release coming when something strange happens. Beau's movements suddenly stop, and I hear someone calling me from afar.
"Lilah! Lilah, wake up. We are going to be late." A voice far away but almost close at the same time calls.
I look down at my legs, and Beau is no longer there. It's like he vanished. What is going on? The voice calls my name again, and this time I try to listen and figure out who it is.
"Lilah, Lilah, wake up. God! You sleep like a dead person," Camila says, frustrated.
As I recognize the voice, I realize I'm dreaming, and with a groan I open my eyes.
