Is It Too Late Now To Say Sorry?
VAS HAPPENIN MES AMIES
You can punch me, I won't mind...
I know that I've been gone for more than a month, but I can explain! I had exams, nothing new with that... and I will have exams again next week 😭. So yeah... I apologise in advance!
Oh and btw, I watched Star Trek Beyond! Like I said, I always get what I want lol 😈. IT'S SO FREAKIN AMAZING THOUGH OMG!!!! AND SPOCK MY GOD LET'S HAVE A MOMENT OF SILENCE IN HONOUR OF HOW FREAKIN *insert 526282927252424627 positive adjectives here* SPOCK IS.
And another moment of silence to honour the lives of Anton Yelchin and Leonard Nimoy...
So yeah... on that note, enjoy this chapter!
"Sulu, zhis is my new friend, Katherina. Katherina, zhis is Sulu", Chekhov said.
Kathy smiled and waved at the Asian, who's eyes widened with recognition.
"Katherina Whitlock?"
"Uh... yes?" Kathy said, surprised that he knew her name.
"You are the one who almost beat Professor Spock's test! I must say, you have made quite an impression on the student body", Sulu said, shaking the embarassed cadet's hand.
"I didn't realise", she said, smiling nervously.
Great, now people will have expectations from me, and that NEVER ends well.
"Sooo..." she trailed off, trying to break the awkward silence. "Why're we here?"
Just as Sulu opened his mouth to reply to her, a series of loud claps resounded throughout the hall, immediately making everyone go silent. Kathy resisted the urge to laugh as Jim, being the crazy person he was, stood on top of one of the tables with a megaphone in his hand. (A/N- I know that this will be considered an antique but please bear with me, I could not think of anything else.) A stylus was tucked above his ears while his other hand held a PADD. The teachers barely batted an eyelash at his antics; they were all use to it by now.
"Ok, so I know that everyone's curious about whether or not I'm single-"
"Jim", Bones cut him off dryly, "Focus."
Clearing his throat, Jim continued, but not before winking at a group of giggling cadets. Kathy rolled her eyes. This would have been hilarious, if Jim was actually single.
"As we all know, Star Fleet's anniversary is approaching."
Jim let the whistles fade out before continuing.
"So this year, we are organising a play!"
Several groans ensued.
"I know, I know. Boring, right?"
Kathy scoffed. Au contraire, she loved plays.
"But the plus side is that it need not be longer than 20 minutes-"
The crowd booed anyways, due to which one of the professors yelled at everyone to calm down.
"But wait, the best part is yet to come! The student council has agreed to conduct the play if, and only if..."
Jim mimicked a drum roll as everyone leaned forward in anticipation.
"THE PROFESSORS ALLOW US TO HOLD AN AFTER PARTY!"
The students cheered and hooted, making Jim smirk smugly at the teachers.
"It will, however, be under 'adult supervision'", Jim added reluctantly, making bunny ears in the air, while muttering to himself, "because apparantly, being 20+ does not qualify you to be an adult..."
"What was that, Kirk?" Pike asked.
Jim shook his head furiously, making Pike grin with satisfaction.
"That's what I thought."
"And I have one more thing to say!" Jim yelled, "I would like for you all to cheer for someone very special! Someone who I love very much."
Some of the girls swooned as Jim's eyes scanned the crowd for the special someone. As Stacy prepared herself with an award winning smile, ready to get up, Jim shouted out one name.
"Katherina Whitlock!"
Kathy, who was sitting on the desk with a bored expression while picking her nails, sat up straight upon hearing her name. Pointing towards herself in order to clear her confusion, she mouthed 'me?', making Kirk laugh and nod his head. Kathy smiled awkwardly as she shuffled towards where Jim was, reluctantly letting him pull her up beside him, completely missing Stacy's angry look on her way.
"Let's cheer for Katherina! It is because of her kind and loving nature that the teachers have allowed us to conduct this party!"
Kathy's eyes widened as her head snapped towards Jim.
"What the Hades did you use my name for?" She hissed.
"Huh", Jim said, looking at her oddly. "Didn't realise that you still say 'Hades' and stuff."
Kathy opened her mouth to shout at Jim, only to be cut off.
"Just go with the flow", he said from the corner of his mouth as he smiled at everyone. "I'll tell you everything later."
Kathy's eye twitched as she held back the urge to scream. She too smiled at everyone, hoping that it didn't appear as though she was grimacing. Quickly jumping off the make shift stage and dragging Jim down with her, Kathy marched towards the exit, smiling at people and dodging their attempts to start a conversation.

Spock had wanted to praise Katherina, he really did, but for some reason he didn't. He couldn't. However, upon seeing Kathy's defeated expression, Spock wished that he had. The way her eyes would dull and her shoulders would slump, before she would pretend to be alright, made Spock's heart feel funny. And not in a good way.
The one good thing that had happened was Kathy making new friends. He didn't know much about the group of people she generally hung out with, but from the bits and pieces he had heard from Audrey, Spock knew that it was time for her to move on and meet new people.
Spock watched as her friend; Jim, he believed his name was; slung his arm around Kathy's shoulder, whispering something to her. Whatever he had said seemed to have infuriated her, as she forced a smile onto her face.
Spock's eyes narrowed as he watched Kathy drag Jim out of the Mess Hall. Hopefully, she would give him a piece of her mind.

"God dam it lady, loosen your grip!" Jim hissed as Kathy's nails dug into his arms.
(A/N- No, Jim is not making a Percy Jackson reference. As a massive fan and a badass demigod, as a rule, I always write 'dam' as 'dam', and not 'damn' 😅.)
"Tell. Me. Everything." Kathy snapped.
"ItoldtheteachersthatyouagreedtodoascenefromRomeoandJulietforStarFleet'sanniversaryiftheyallowedustohostapartyatthenearbyclub."
"Gods dam it Jim do I look like Barry Allen or Pietro Maximoff to you?!" Kathy yelled.
"What?" Jim asked, confused.
"Stop speaking like a demigod high on sugar and tell me what you did!"
"What?" Jim asked, sounding more confused than before.
Seeing Kathy's glare, he gulped and spoke slower than before.
"I told the teachers that you agreed to do a scene from Romeo and Juliet for Star Fleet's anniversary if they allowed us to host a party at the nearby club."
Silence.
"Please don't kill me", Jim mumbled.
Kathy felt the anger leave her as she slumped against the wall.
"You should've just asked me, Jim", Kathy said, feeling miserable. "You should've asked me instead of going behind my back."
"And if I did, tell me honestly, would you have agreed?" Jim said angrily.
"Yes." Kathy replied honestly.
"You can't do this Jim", she added softly. "You can't ignore me and then remember me whenever you need help. True friendship doesn't work that way."
"Kathy... I-" Jim began, feeling like a horrible person.
"I just-", Kathy raised up her hand, "I can't do this right now, Jim."
And with that, she walked down the desolated hallway, leaving behind a very guilty and upset friend.

Kathy rubbed her temples as she tried to focus on the complex mathematical equation in front of her, trying desperately to ignore the chitter of the students in the lawn outside the building. Huffing with frustration and not caring that she was in her PJs, she flung open the window with anger.
"Can everyone ju...", she failed to complete her sentence due to surprise.
Standing below her window was none other than her idiotic friend, James T. Kirk, holding the same megaphone from before.
"Rapunzel, Rapunzel! Let down your hair!" He exclaimed, making exaggerated gestures as he spoke.
"Go away, oh mighty Flynn Rider!"
What the hell is wrong with me? Actually, the better question would be, what is not wrong with me?
Jim ignored her sarcastic comment, glad to have caught her attention. Holding the microphone up, he did something which made Kathy almost fall out of the window.
He started to sing.
James Tiberius Kirk started to sing.
Did I end up in an alternate dimension by mistake?!
Physically shaking her head, Kathy stared with shock as her friend began to sing a 21st century song. To say that she was embarassed would be a massive understatement; not because Jim sounded bad, he could actually sing pretty well (much to her surprise); but because of the song choice.
"You gotta go and get angry at all of my honesty,
You know I try but I don't do too well with apologies!
I hope I don't run out of time. Could someone call a referee?
'Cause I just need one more shot at forgiveness!
I know you know that I made those mistakes maybe once or twice,
And by once or twice I mean maybe a couple of hundred times!
So let me, oh, let me redeem, oh, redeem, oh, myself tonight,
'Cause I just need one more shot, second chances!"
"Shut up Jim!" Kathy yelled half- heartedly, for she found his actions sweet.
" Yeah,
Is it too late now to say sorry?
'Cause I'm missing more than just your loyalty, oh
Is it too late now to say sorry?
Yeah, I know-oh-oh, that I let you down,
Is it too late to say I'm sorry now?"
Jim continued to sing, completely ignoring Kathy's words. Huffing slightly, Kathy all but flew down the flight of steps, eager to end this madness.
Stubborn dodo- head. How the hell does loyalty even suit the situation?
Kathy came to a halt before Jim, crossing her arms and cocking her head sideways rather arrogantly as she glared at him.
"Please forgive me, Kitten?" Jim asked, giving her his famous puppy- dog face.
Kathy sighed and grudgingly hugged Jim.
"I will if you promise not to take decisions involving me without my input", Kathy grumbled.
"I promise", Jim said, his voice muffled as he hugged her tightly and lay his chin on her head.
She already hated herself for not fighting back. How could she though, when her crazy friend looked at her adorably, with his wide eyes and pouty mouth?
"And to stop calling me Kitten", she added after a second thought, making Jim chuckle.
"That, I can't promise."
"Whatever bro", Kathy said rolling her eyes.
Jim stiffened slightly before letting her go, smiling at her as he placed a gentle kiss on her forehead. Kathy frowned, taking a step back to look at her human friend.
"Are you okay?" She asked.
"I've never been better!" Jim exclaimed, throwing his arm around her shoulder as they walked over the lawn.
"You like someone, don't you?" Kathy asked hesitantly as she hugged Jim from the side.
Jim stopped walking as he looked down at her.
"How did you know?"
"I am your friend, Jim", Kathy said, smiling sadly. "I know more about you than you can imagine, and I see it in your eyes."
"Do you now", Jim muttered, staring at the couples in front of them.
"Look, Jim", Kathy began, "tell her how you feel, but not before breaking up Stacy. It's jot fair for either of you to continue being in such a cold and emotionless relationship."
"I would love to tell her, but I don't think she likes me, at least not the way I like her", Jim said forlonly.
"I doubt that's true", Kathy said with a laugh as she patted Jim's back.
"If you ever need advice, then feel free to talk to me, okay?"
"I'd rather not", Jim said jokingly, "I don't want our relationship to end before it begins."
"Hey!" Kathy exclaimed, "I may not be in a relationship, but I do understand the human mind!"
And with that, Kathy began to chatter away about what the body language of your crush can tell you, etc, jumping from one topic to another. Jim, surprisingly, listened to her patiently, stating his opinion and cracking jokes every now and then.
That night, Kathy slept peacefully, her mind and heart calmed by the fact that she was a step closer to mending her friendship with Jim, and getting the man she considered her brother back.
