A Discovery (Pt 2)
Long time no seen, folks!! *Crickets chirp* so yeah.... As I mentioned earlier, I'm sort of losing the inspiration to write in general, which is why I'm not updating even though I'm active on wattpad every once in a while.... I'll definitely try my best to finish this story, but I won't be writing the sequel which I'd planned out.... But I will tell you guys a gist of it towards the end :) Anyhow, let's get on with the chapter!!
The men looked at Kathy for a moment, before bursting into peels of laughter. They stepped closer to Stacy, who was froze in terror.
"Stop it", Kathy gritted out as the men continued to laugh, " you stop it right now."
"What, this?" One of the men said, grabbing hold of Stacy's upper arm.
"Or maybe she meant this!" Another chuckled as he dragged a finger across the blonde's throat.
As someone who was a prideful person, Kathy hated not having the upper hand. She hated feeling so helpless. She knew that logically speaking, she stood no chance against those cadets; not when she was alone at least. Kathy's vision started to blur, was it because of the increasing rain or her salty tears, she did not know. The rain drops on her glasses only made the situation worse; she would be able to see nothing irrespective of whether or not she wore them.
"Hey baby girl, you wanna join us? Aww don't tell you're getting jealous of blondie here?" One of them rasped out as he moved towards her.
"You bitch!!" He shouted suddenly, turning around and slapping Stacy when she dug her nails into his hand to try and stop him.
That was when Kathy snapped. She didn't know what came over her, but she vaguely remembered feeling something awaken in her; the very same thing which she would try to control everytime she lost her temper. It seemed to flow out of its cage like the fiery underworld river; the Phlegethon; taking over her mind and body ardently. The heat accumulated in her chest and spread to the rest of her body; right upto her fingertips and toes; creating a frenzy in every cell. By the time she came to her senses, she noticed with surprise, that her glasses were fogged up, and it was odly bright.
"Wh- what the...." One of the cadets stuttered, while the others looked at her with fear.
Kathy squinted at the men, trying to see over the bright reddish- orange hue. She froze, before looking at her hand. For a moment, there was pin drop silence.
And then, she screamed.

When Spock woke up that day, he knew that something was wrong. However, he shook away the illogical feeling and got ready for work. By the time it was evening, the feeling only intensified.
It was dark outside now, and Spock tried to ignore his haywire thoughts and correct the papers in front of him. Every paper was covered with red circles, which frustrated Spock. As he came to the last page of the last paper, Spock frowned. It was covered with doodles and strange humanoid figures which looked undernourished (A/N:- he means stick figures lol). Spock sighed as he saw the name at the top corner of the page.
Katherina Marie Whitlock
Spock continued correcting the girl's paper, trying to suppress the feeling of amusement within him. He wondered if the girl even studied for the test as he circled another spelling mistake.
"The probability of her doing extremely well if she put in effort is high", the Commander mumbled to himself as he totalled her marks.
Relieved that he was finally done with all the work for the day (and the next), Spock cleared up his desk and placed the papers in his locker before locking his office. Holding up his umbrella, the Vulcan walked out of the campus and towards his apartment briskly, eager to get away from the cold rain. He couldn't wait to start the book on fascinating and not commonly known facts about Circians sent by his mother.
For educational purposes, of course, the lady had said with a twinkle in her eye when Spock looked at her with confusion.
A sudden noise reached his ears, causing the pointy tips to twitch as he halted. Assessing the situation for a moment, he passed the sound off as unimportant, assuming that it was a pack of stray dogs prowling on the street. As Spock continued to walk, the unsettling feeling in his abdomen intensified, making him wonder if he had eaten something odd or if he was experiencing angina pectoris. He stopped again, pausing to think of what to do next, before letting out a soft sigh and making his way into the narrow street.
It appears that I will not have sufficient time to start that book....
Spock placed his umbrella and briefcase against a wall, walking into the dark alley cautiously only to receive a shock if his life as a blood curling scream resonated off the walls. Spock resisted the urge to cover his ears as he flinched, wondering why the voice sounded familiar. Another scream followed, before the voice finally decided to use words and speak.
"What the actual shit is going on here?!"
Ah, so that's why it sounded familiar....
Spock tried not to panick as he increased the pace of his footsteps.
"And why in heaven's name am I on fire HONESTLY KAMISAMA WHAT DID I EVER DO TO YOU?!"
Spock all but ran upon hearing this, panick mixing with anger as he wondered why Katherina had said that she was on fire.
That woman is all but the incarnation of trouble....
*** *** *** ***
Saying that I'm not terrified would be the biggest, most shitty lie ever.
This was the first thought which came into her mind, after her failed attempt at putting out the fire by jumping and shaking her hands like a headless chicken. The second thought was.... A little different.
I'm a flipping fire bender y'all.
And that was exactly what she said out loud, confusing the everyone (Spock- who had just turned up, included).
"Katherina", Spock gritted out, grabbing the startled cadet's blazing arm.
"Spock be careful!" Kathy yelled, trying to pull away so that she wouldn't burn him.
"Would you like to explain the situation you are in", Spock said, making it very clear that his statment was not a question.
The flame went out almost at once, and Kathy glared at Spock.
"First of all, are you an idiot? Second of all, Stacy was in trouble so I decided to help out, though the setting myself on fire thing was totally unintentional.... And third of all, ARE YOU AN IDIOT I COULD'VE BURNED YOUR ARM YOU DUMMY!"
"I am not an idiot", Spock said grumpily, "the flame was quite mild, especially when I moved to touch you."
Spock didn't wait for a reply, subtly flexing his fingers as he turned towards the cadets, only to see that they had disappeared, leaving an unconscious Stacy on the ground. Kathy gasped and shot towards her friend, kneeling beside her as he put her head on her thigh.
"Stacy", she whispered, patting the girl's cheek in an attempt to wake her up, "Spock, do me a favour and take her pulse."
The Vulcan hesitated for a moment, leaning next to Kathy as the girl looked at him oddly.
"Vulcans kiss with their hands", she said with a flinch, "and I'm an idiot. Sorry Spock, I'll do it myself...."
"I believe the Cadet has lost consciousness due to shock, Katherina", Spock said in attempt to comfort her, "she will be fine."
"Spock.... I know that it would be inconvenient, but would you drop us off at the dorms?" Kathy asked sheepishly.
"This matter needs to be reported to the authorities immediately", Spock said as he picked Stacy up carefully.
"Spock please", Kathy said in a small voice, "can we not do this right now? I mean, look at us! Are we in any condition to meet the authorities? I mean, Stacy is unconscious and I'm half naked!!"
An awkward silence ensued as Kathy looked down at her tattered, hole filled hoodie and charred pyjamas.
"Oh my god", she whispered, horrified, "I'm half naked."
"A perfectly sound analysis of the situation, Katherina", Spock said almost sarcastically, his ear tips turning green as he put Stacy down and took off his jacket, holding it out to the Cadet while looking away awkwardly.
"Thanks man", Kathy said, feeling equally (if not more) awkward.
"I suppose, given the weather conditions and your current.... condition, it would logical for the two of you to rest at my apartment for the night."
Kathy blinked at him, narrowing her eyes suspiciously.
Wait...That is actually totally illogical.... Why would he say that, did he get hit on the head or something?
Spock mentally berated himself for his momentary lapse in judgement. However, what was done could not be un- done, and the Vulcan waited with bated breath for a response. Kathy continued to look at him suspiciously, before nodding her head affirmatively.
After all, what's the worst thing that could happen?

"Nice apartment", Kathy said softly as she stepped into Spock's house, "it's very you."
The house lacks a personal touch, but somehow, it seems to suit him....
Spock nodded stiffly, walking towards a door as the lights suddenly turned on, and a voice resonated through the house, making Kathy jump and press her back against the wall.
"Welcome home, Commander Spock."
"That would be the building's AI, Katherina", Spock explained to Kathy, who relaxed a bit.
"Would you and your guest like to eat something, Commander Spock?" The AI asked suddenly.
"I'm fine, thanks", Kathy said as Spock looked at her for a response.
"Switch on the replicator, Hermes", Spock said, ignoring what Kathy had said, "I shall take it from there."
"Very well, Commander Spock. Would that be all?"
"You may retire for the night." Spock said.
"Good night Commander Spock, Ms. Katherina", the AI said.
"How....How does it know my name?" Kathy asked, sounding a bit terrified, "oh wait, never mind. You called me by my name, so it must have picked up on that."
"This way, Cadet", Spock said, finally realising that he had been calling her by her name the whole time.
Kathy opened the door as Spock walked in, gently placing Stacy on the bed before turning to look at Kathy.
"Follow me, Cadet."
Kathy nodded in affirmation and followed Spock as he walked into his room. The room was just like the rest of the house, it barely had a personal touch to it apart from a few pictures of his family here and there. Spock handed a pair of clothes to Kathy, who immediately went to the guest room (or at least, what she thought was the guest room) to change Stacy out of her cold and soaked clothes. Just as she was done, she heard a knock.
"You may use the shower if you like, Cadet", Spock's muffled voice came through, "I shall be in the living room. Call me once you are done."
Kathy mumbled a soft thank you and brushed past the Commander (who looked particularly attractive after a shower) and into his room, feeling awkward about using a man's bathroom. She quickly washed her hair and put on Spock's Star Fleet shorts and shirt, which were very loose for her.
I wonder what he'd look like in shorts....
She continued to towel dry her hair absentmindedly, thinking about her sudden firebending and the Stacy situation. Stepping out of Spock's room, she softly called out to him, telling him that she was done.
"I am in the Kitchen, Cadet", Spock replied, and Kathy walked towards him.
He wordlessly placed a mug of hot tomato soup on the counter, obviously wanting Kathy to take it. The girl muttered a thank you and moved forward to take the mug, before she saw his hand.
His burned hand.
She grabbed his wrist in her right hand, using the fingers of her left hand to gently touch his burned palm. Spock jumped at the sudden motion, his lips parting with shock as a barely audible gasp escaped them. Kathy looked at him with worry, biting her lip with guilt.
"I'm sorry! I should've known that it would hurt...."
I would not have reacted this way had it been pain, Katherina....
This was what Spock thought, and it was what he wished to say, but words seemed to have failed him.
"Where's the first aid kit?" Kathy asked worriedly.
"It is in my room, the first shelf to the left of the bed", Spock said in a low tone, making Kathy shudder visibly as she ran to get the box. She was back in seconds, placing the box on the counter with shaking hands as she gently touched Spock's chest.
"Sit", she ordered, trying not to look into his dark eyes as he obeyed her.
Shuddering slightly, she opened the box and took out the ointment and bandages, trying not to enjoy the domestic feeling too much as she stood in front of Spock. Said man continued to look at her, his eyes following every movement carefully. Kathy took his hand into hers, caressing the palm with sadness in her eyes.
"Spock", she began, her eyes moving to meet his as she froze at how close they were.
"I'm really sorry", she breathed out nervously.
"You need not apologise, Cadet", Spock said, looking adorably embarrassed inspite of the intense look in his eyes.
Kathy looked away quickly, scrunching up her nose in embarrassement as she pushed up her glasses and started to apply the ointment on his hand.
If he doesn't stop being so cute I swear to god I'll kiss him till he- WAIT JUST STOP RIGHT THERE YOUNG LADY DON'T YOU DARE THINK ANOTHER WORD AND DON'T YOU DARE LOOK AT HIM.
There was silence in the air, which made her relax slightly as she continued to treat Spock's hands.
Are you sure you don't want to look at those hot eyes and perfect pink lips?
Just as she finished wrapping the bandage around his hand, the voice had returned, making her groan. Spock looked at her with confusion, making something within her snap. She looked him in the eye before lifting his injured hand to her mouth and placing a kiss on the palm. Spock jumped, looking as though he would fall off the counter any moment. Kathy smirked against his palm, trailing her lips down to his wrist.
What the hell are you doing?!?!?!
Kathy screamed at herself to stop mentally, but her body did not listen to her. More like she did not want it to listen to her. Her lips found his pulse, which seemed to run at the speed of light, feeling like a gentle vibration against her lips. She let out a content sigh, looking up at Spock through her eyelashes, watching his Adam's apple move as he let out a soundless gasp. Said man gritted his teeth, trying to hold on to what little control he had left as Kathy began to kiss his fingertips.
He lifted a shaking hand and placed it against her neck, stroking it gently and almost groaning because of the temperature difference between them as he watched her skin become dotted by goosebumps. He followed the trail with his eyes and finger, moving from her clavicle to the hollow of her neck, and then below towards her chest. What made Spock finally snap, however, was not his Katherina's gently touches or the sight of her in his clothes with damp hair. It was the look in her eyes when she turned towards him and smiled, her ears and cheeks turning red as she blushed.
He let out a low groan and shot up suddenly, grabbing the back of her neck as he took her hand into his burnt one and pushed her against the counter. His eyes were almost black as he moved his face close to a surprised Kathy, his lips barely brushing her's with every breath. His fingers gently rubbed her's in a sensual, practiced waltz, making Kathy's lips involunarily part ever so slightly. He moved closer, leaving no space between them as he all but crushed her between himself and the counter, bringing his hand down from her neck towards her hips. He grasped the curve tightly, making Kathy jerk and turn even more red.
She gently placed her hand around Spock's neck as she stroked his skin lovingly, making the man shudder. She bit her lip, before letting her tongue run over it to sooth the sting, looking at the Vulcan's lips the whole time. Said man's hand seemed to increase the pace of the heated tango, his tongue mimicking Kathy's after he too, bit his lip. Kathy moved her hips on instinct, trying to get rid of the odd feeling in her lower regions, only to receive a delicious groan from Spock, who reciprocated the action by using the fingers of his unharmed hand caress the woman's bare skin right above her hip bone.
Spock had spent his entire life thinking that he would never use words such as 'cute' and 'adorable'; they were far too human for his taste. However, seeing Kathy in her current state he changed his mind. With wide eyes which looked at his lips and then darted away in embarrassement; like a child caught doing something he wasn't suppose to do, parted lips which nearly touched his, letting out shaky breaths as they quivered, and her messy and curly, damp hair which brushed against her blushing skin invitingly, Spock couldn't help but admit that she looked completely, utterly, cute and adorable.
The sound of Spock's comm rang through the house, effectively snapping the hybrids out of their trance. Spock moved back almost reluctantly, letting both his hands rest on the counter on either side of a frazzled and embarrassed Kathy, who immediately pulled her hands away from his neck and shuffled her feet nervously. Spock moved back, letting his arms fall to his sides, and Kathy's heart broke as she looked at his stiff posture and clenched jaw. The guilt made her lower her head as she swallowed the lump in her throat, trying not to cry.
"I apologize for my inappropriate actions, sir", she choked out as she walked away from the man who she had forgotten, in the heat of the moment, was her professor as well as her sister's fiancé.
She shut the door to the guest room with a bang and sat against it with her head in her hands, feeling like a monster as she let the tears fall freely, wondering what the repercussions of her actions would be.
"I will not report this incident Cadet, of that is what you are worried about", Spock said from the other side of the door, his voice actually sounding emotionless, "a lot has happened tonight, and it is normal for one behave.... oddly."
"I think it was the firebending thing. It must have uh, released some hormones or something into my bloodstream which made me behave that way", Kathy said, trying to convince Spock as well as herself.
"Who called?" She asked awkwardly after a moment.
"My mother", Spock said, to which Kathy let out an 'oh' in response.
"I shall be calling her back in a minute and 39 seconds, Ka- Cadet", Spock said, stopping himself from saying her name at the last moment.
"Would it be alright if I told her about your.... situation?"
"Aa long as no one else, particularly my mother and sister, find out about it", Kathy said, before letting out a humourless laugh.
*** *** *** ***
The next morning, Spock dropped off Kathy and a half asleep Stacy at their dorms. Kathy, after making sure that the girl was safely in their room, came back out to thank Spock.
"Take care, Cadet", Spock said just as he was about to leave, "however, whoever this Kamesuma is seems to have a vendetta against you."
His lips unnoticeably tilted to one side cheekily, making Kathy freeze for a moment before laughing.
"It's Kamisama, not Kamesuma, dear!" She exclaimed teasingly, giggling as the man turned slightly green from embarrassment.
Spock muttered a quick goodbye and hurried away, leaving behind a thoroughly amused Kathy, who continued to stand outside for sometime, ignoring the cool stinging of the early morning air as she gazed up at the sky, admiring the sun rise.
Maybe, she thought to herself with a small smile, just maybe, everything can return to normal....
