I sighed. 'I'm definitely going to stand out.'
I was home schooled so I didn't have a uniform like everyone else.
I was having second thoughts about going to U.A High. I do want to become a hero. But that's not the only reason why I want to enroll in U.A.
I've been home schooled for the past ten years and I had no friends during those heart wrenching years. I still don't. So, I decided to come to this school so I could make friends.
I wanted a reason to live.
All I did was wake up every morning and go about my usual routine. I had absolutely no reason for living. And it was rather boring and lifeless.
I moved to a foster home when I was six. It was all going fine until just a few months ago when my foster father was killed in a ship accident. He was on a cruise on the other side of the world on important business.
Someone had planted bombs all over the ship before hand and detonated them when they were very far away from Japan. My father was trapped inside his room and drowned.
Unfortunately, he was born with no Quirk, otherwise that would of raised his chances in surviving.
The police caught the murderer a couple months after the incident.
They said that the reason for him doing so was because his father found out that he was a villain and was afraid of him telling the police.
So, In other words, he killed his own father and the three hundred and sixty seven people that died just happened to be there.
Thank goodness the remaining one hundred and thirty three people made it out alive.
I inherited my foster father's life savings.
My father owned a very rich company in Tokyo, so he was quite wealthy.
We use to live in Kyoto but it was four hours away from U.A. High. So I decided to purchase a beautiful fenced estate in Tokyo.
My father's sister, Aunt Chiyu, decided to live with me and take over the rent. She inherited my father's business so it was easy to handle. He didn't want to give it to me because he knew I wanted to go to U.A. High. He knew it would be hard for me to keep the business going and be a hero at the same time.
My father's death hit Aunt Chiyu worse than anyone else because my father was the last of her family. Realizing she still had me as her remaining family, she unconsciously attached herself to me and held on for dear life, afraid of being left alone.
And as for me, I held on to the thought of rekindling my old self. The one where I was always happy and cheerful, before all of this happened. Well..to be more exact, I want to rekindle the feelings I use to feel.
I miss those days.
The deaths of my parents really got to me. I secluded myself and never spoke to anyone except for when it was necessary.
I've tried to change myself during those times but the seclusion I was in kept on calling me back.
The further I got away from home sweet home, the more I drowned.
That's how it use to be at least.
I'm completely fine with crowds, people, jobs and talking to people just like everyone should be. Because I got use to it.
The torture of feeling those heart wrenching emotions to much gave me a high tolerance for them. Going months and years without feeling anything became so natural It caused me to lose my emotions. And that goes more for happiness and love. They're so damn unattainable I'm beginning to lose hope In ever feeling them again.
I do have some common feelings left. Frustration, annoyance, anger and surprise.
I have to change that. Or else I'll soon be questioning my humanity.
-
I realized I didn't feel any weight on my shoulders and I stopped and held my face in my palm.
"Dammit.." I whispered. "I forgot my backpack. It had all of my supplies in it."
I turned around to go back and get it but I bumped into someone.
Before he could hit the ground, I grabbed his hand and pulled him back up.
"Sorry about that. I'm glad I caught you In time." I said calmly.
"It's not your fault. It was an accident. Thank you for saving me." He said as he gave me a nervous smile.
"You're to kind. The exams are about to begin so we should hurry up." I said as I walked off.
"Um! My names Izuku Midoriya. I hope we can become friends!" He yelled.
I stopped. At the same time my eyes widened for a few seconds before going back to my normal expressionless look.
I turned around and looked at him. He was shaking and had his eyes shut tight while he pointed them at the ground.
"(F/N). It's nice to meet you. I hope we can as well." I said.
He looked up at me with a big smile.
"Good luck In the exams, (F/N)! I hope we get put in the same class once we've passed them." Izuku said.
"Likewise." I said.
I turned around and walked off. "You better pass then!"
"The same goes for you!" Izuku yelled.
Once I made It to the doors, I seen Izuku trip In the reflection from the glass doors.
A girl touched him and his body stopped as If gravity didn't exist with him.
She pulled him back up.
"And release. I hope you don't mind me using my Quirk on you. My body just moved on It's own there." She said.
"N-Not at all. Thank you very much." Izuku said.
"Saved again." I said.
-Time skip-
As we all gathered in a big theatre-like room, we watched a hyped up hero with blonde hair called 'Present Mic', or Hizashi Yamada, explain to us about the entrance exams.
"Welcome one and all to my live show! Everybody say heeeeeeeey!"
And, as expected, no one cheered.
'I'm sorry, Yamada. I'll cheer for you in my head. Heeeeeeeey!' I said to myself, feeling sorry for him.
"I've got shivers down my spine, too, Listeners! Alright, examinees..I'm gonna give you the low-down on how this will go down! Are you ready!?"
I heard a silent squeal to the right of me. I looked over and it was Izuku, fangirling.
"Oh my god, It's voice-type hero 'Present Mic'!" Izuku silently squealed as he covered his mouth with both hands.
"I listen to him on the radio every week, this is incredible, the lecturers at Yuuei really are pro heroes." Izuku said.
"Shut it." Another student beside Izuku said in a low pissed off tone.
'Damn, what is his problem..? He's just happy to see the people he looks up to. Give him a break.' I said to myself in a disgusted tone.
"Now pay close attention, Listeners! We'll be testing your mettle by running a ten-minute practice run at our city-district! You can take whatever you like! Everybody gather at the designated meeting area after the presentation, ya dig?" Yamada said.
"They don't intend on letting friends or class-mates cooperate, huh? They gave us serial numbers for the exam, but it seems the actual meeting areas are elsewhere." Izuku said.
"DON'T lOOK AT ME OR I'LL FREAKING KILL YOU." The angry guy from earlier said in a more pissed off tone than before.
'I don't like this guy.' I said boringly.
"We'll be sprinkling a large number of 'villains' over the battlefield. And they'll appear in three different varieties, with point values scaled according to difficulty!! Villain A Is worth one point. Villain B Is worth two points. And villain C Is worth three points. Using each of your individual quirks, dispatch as many 'villains' as you can. Your goal, Listeners, is to rack up a high score!! And don't think about directly attacking any other competitors or any of that nasty anti-hero stuff, because that's against the rules, capisce!?" Yamada said.
'..It doesn't seem to hard, I guess.. Well, maybe it will be. I've only ever used my quirk a couple times in my whole life. I've never been thrown in any situations to be forced to use my quirk..But I use my other quirk, 'Enhance', all day everyday. It's really useful. I'm sure everyone else here Is connected to their quirk like glue.' I said to myself, propping my chin in my hand, trying to think of a strategy.
"Excuse me, may I ask a question!?"
I looked over In the corner of my eye and seen a mature looking student in glasses standing up, raising his hand.
"On the hand-out, their are clearly four types of villains listed. Such an error would be the height of embarrassment for a top-tier national academy of Yuuei's caliber. The reason we are seated here today is because we seek guidance on the path to becoming model heroes." He said In a dominant tone.
"Moreover, what's with you? Yeah, you, curly-haired kid!" He pointed at Izuku.
Izuku pointed to himself in a scared manner. "M-Me..?" Izuku asked.
The guy in the glasses became more demeaning-like. Although I'm sure he wasn't meaning to sound like that.
"Can't you sit still for a second...you're distracting!! If you think Yuuei is some pleasure jaunt, then leave this place at once!" He yelled.
Izuku sat down, covering his mouth.
"Sorry.." Izuku said.
Everyone silently laughed at Izuku.
Then, the tension In the air made the whole room become silent. Not a single bit of rustling among us students was heard.
"Would you shut the hell up, four eyes..?"
Everyone looked at me with wide eyes.
The guy in the glasses gasped at what came from my mouth.
"E-Excuse me!?" He yelled shockingly.
"Leave him alone, he's just happy to be here. I'm sitting right next to him and he hasn't bothered me once. Looks to me like you're just some nerd maniac who likes to be the dominant one for his own pleasure. If you think everyone is just going to obey your words, then you can leave this place at once.." I said coldly, not even caring to make eye contact with him.
Izuku stared at me in absolute joy as he watched me take up for him.
"How dare you talk to a fellow student like that!?" He said.
"Listen, that's all I wanted to say. So shut up or talk to everyone the way you would want us to speak to you." I said.
He slowly pushed his glasses up the bridge of his nose.
"Okay, okaaaay! Thanks for the segue, much appreciated, examinee 7111!" Yamada said.
'Examinee 7111' sat back down without uttering a single word.
"The fourth type of villain you'll encounter is worth zero points! Let's call them 'Arena Traps'! So if you encounter them, It's best you run away. You can defeat them but..there's kinda no point. Have any of you ever played Super Mario Brothers before? 'I guess It's kind of retro.' You remember those things that'd go thwomp on you? There's a thing like that in each arena! Their 'gimmick' is that they rampage when crowded." Yamada said.
'That can't be..Yuuei wouldn't just put In that villain for no reason. There has to be some kind of catch.' I thought to myself.
"I see..they're like a stage hazard. Just gotta slip through and avoid." A student said.
"This really is starting to sound like a video game." Another student said.
"Th-Thank you very much! I apologize for being rude!" Examinee 7111 said.
"Well, that's enough from me! I'll leave you all with a presentation of the 'School Precepts' of this academy of mine! As a certain 'Hero' by the name of Napoleon Bonaparte once said, 'A true hero never stops overcoming the misfortunes In life'! Now let's all move to the main event! Plus Ultra!! And may you all suffer gladly the trails to come!"
-Time skip-
All of the students got changed into tights, sweats and gym clothes for battle.
I left my back pack at home, so..I improvised by rolling up my pants legs a little below my knees and took off my dress shirt.
I walked over to Izuku while he was still changing.
'Holy hell, he has muscles bigger than mine!' I thought.
"Ahem, can you put this in your bag, Izuku? I forgot my back pack at home." I said, holding out my dress shirt.
Izuku put on his jacket and grabbed my dress shirt.
"I'd be happy to, (F/N)." Izuku said while he stuffed my shirt in his back pack.
"Thanks." I said.
"Umm..thank you for taking up for me. Honestly, It's the first time anyone has ever done that for me. And In front of so many people at that." Izuku said with a forlorn smile.
"I would do It again and again. We're..friends after all." I said with a expressionless face.
I slapped his back playfully. "I know you have the strength to pass this exam, Izuku. Show me." I said with a serious tone and headed to the next area.
Meanwhile, that angry guy stared at Izuku and I, his eyes full of hatred.
-A few minutes before the battle starts-
I dangled my feet off the top of the bus we used to get here.
*Izuku's p.o.v.*
'The town's so big!!' I yelled to myself. I looked around at everyone while I shook uncontrollably.
"Ah! It's that girl!" I said as I tried approaching her.
I was stopped when a hand was placed on my shoulder.
I turned my head and It was that guy In glasses from before.
"You're not thinking of approaching her and obstructing her concentration, are you? Can't you see she's nervous and trying to prepare herself for the battle?" He asked.
"W-Who me..?!" I said.
"That's the kid who's been acting like a weirdo ever since he arrived at the front gate." A student said as they conversed back and forth.
"That kid won't stop shaking in his boots."
"Well, that just means there's one fewer rival to worry about, no?"
'They think they're lucky to have me as an opponent..' I said to myself as I stared at the ground.
"W-What's your name?" I asked.
"If you must know, It's Tenya Iida." He said.
I heard someone land behind me.
"Can't you see he's nervous and preparing for the battle, also?"
It was (F/N).
"Y-You again. Why are you still In normal clothes? Did you not order the battle suit off of the schools website? They're made for combat, they will minimize the damage you take In a fight. With what you're wearing now, I'm certain you will come out bruised and battered." Tenya said.
"Are you the type that cares for his classmates?" (F/N) asked. He looked annoyed.
"Of course I am!" Tenya yelled.
(F/N) sighed and looked up into the sky.
"I left my backpack at home. It had my suit inside..And actually, you're the only one wearing the damned thing. If I'd known I didn't need it, I wouldn't have spent 25,000¥ on it." (F/N) said frustratingly.
"I'm sorry to hear that. *Ahem* Mr. (L/N), how about we put this all aside and become friends?" Tenya said as he approached (F/N) and offered a handshake.
"That would be nice. But I'm sorry, I can't. Not until after the exam, at least." (F/N) said.
"Why, If you don't mind me asking?" Tenya asked.
"Well..If we became friends now and one of us happened to not make it, our friendship would be lonely. That person would be to busy with hero work and closer friends, they wouldn't even have time to hang out with one another." (F/N) said.
"Uh-.." Tenya's eyes widened.
"I understand. That is very noble of you, Mr. (L/N). Instead of thinking about yourself, you thought about both of our feelings and what would help us steer clear of any emotional distraught. I'm positive you would be a most cherished friend, Mr. (L/N). Uh, but, why accept Izuku's friendship?" Tenya asked.
I looked at (F/N) curiously.
(F/N) stayed quiet for a moment.
"A long time ago, I heard someone say, 'Your first friendship will last a lifetime.' I guess I..wanted Izuku to be the first to test that theory with me." (F/N) said with no expression.
My heart slightly dropped at his words.
"(F/N)..you.." I tried to speak but he took the words from my mouth.
He looked at me out of the corner of his eye.
"I have a feeling we're suppose to be gone already." (F/N) said.
*(F/N)'s p.o.v.*
"Aaaand start! What are you waiting for? In a real battle you don't wait for someone to tell you when to go!" Yamada yelled.
At that moment, everyone rushed Into the city like hungry lions, pushing each other down, tripping people without anyone noticing, stealing points. It was Un-Hero-like.
Izuku was the first to be tripped.
I walked up to him and helped him to his feet.
"We should get going, Izuku. We're going seperate ways from here on out. You better pass." I said as I ran into the city.
Right off the bat, a three-pointer approached me.
I hesitated, stepping back.
'I absolutely have to pass this exam. This is the moment of truth..' I said to myself.
"First..Enhance! Agility, Balance, Speed, Strength, Sight, Sound Level 4." I said while stepping back.
Each time I enhanced one of my abilities, my eyes and chest shined a bright White and Pink.
"Now.." I jumped in the air.
"Die."
With one hit, I landed on the robots head with great force, completely smashing the thing into pieces.
I let out a breath of air and gave myself a satisfying smile.
"On to the next."
I took off at nearly 45MPH.
I saw two students surrounded by four three-pointers.
I jumped into the air and landed beside them.
"H-Hey! These are our points, get lost!" One of them yelled.
I pushed one of the robots and sent It one hundred meters away into a tall building, disabling it.
I dashed forward and elbowed another robot, putting a whole all the way through It's chest area.
Just before the other two robots attacked those hopeless students, I threw my hands in front of me like I was pushing someone, and held back how much power I used In effort to not hit the other two participants. I wasn't very good at controlling how much power I used.
A energy wave that was barley visible hit the robots and tore off their limbs, disabling them.
"Awesome, I controlled it." I said.
With my sound enhancement, I heard a large battle going on about two hundred meters away. I ran and jumped on a roof and traveled along the building roof tops.
"W-What the hell? He disabled all of them in just a few seconds..." One of the students said.
I arrived at the battle sight and saw five free robots heading into battle.
I jumped down and hit the ground with a lot of power.
The force from the impact broke off their legs and messed up their wiring, disabling them.
I ran along the battlefield, racking up as many points as I could. I pushed into the air with one hand as I passed a robot, sending It into a wall. It couldn't move from how stuck it was, so I got the points for it.
I kept on running along the battlefield, sending out waves of energy from my hands at robots.
"That should be seventy-five points." I said.
I suddenly stopped. I heard something big coming towards us.
Everyone else couldn't hear It.
"Two minutes left!" Yamada yelled.
But then the ground started shaking and everyone stopped moving.
A giant robot bigger than the tallest building In the city came into view, completely squishing other robots, cars and debris.
All of the participants started screaming as they ran away, not worrying about points or winning.
I stayed behind because I heard someone calling for help.
"Owwww!" A girls voice yelled.
As soon as everyone was behind me, I saw her. It was that girl that saved Izuku from falling down. She was stuck under a big piece of concrete and that giant robot was just a few feet away from crushing her. The robots feet didn't leave the ground, It only rolled. I saw a steel ramp right behind that girl.
"D-Dammit..please work.."
I ran after her as fast as I could.
I had a very dangerous Idea.
"Enhance! Strength, Speed Level 5."
The robots wheels went over the ramp. Just before the wheels landed back on the ground, I slid right beside the girl, just inches away from her and placed my hands under It's feet and held up all of the weight from the robot to keep from crushing the both of us.
She uncovered her eyes and went wide eyed as she saw me holding up the full weight of the robot.
It was getting harder and harder to hold.
"Enhance! Strength level six...Enhance! Strength level seven..." With that, I managed to lift It just a few inches higher.
I was overdoing It way to much.
Blood started coming out of my eyes, nose and mouth.
Right now, I'm to weak to go past level four on any ability.
If I do, my enhance power will start taking my blood In exchange for strength in ability, causing my blood to disappear. The reason for It coming out of my eyes, nose and mouth is because I'm using to much of my enhance quirk.
Since It's taking so much of my blood, It's causing It to flow to fast and cause my blood to build up in one place. It can't go anywhere else In my body, so It's forced to leave out from my eyes, nose and mouth, causing me to bleed out as well as slowly dissapppearing.
She seen this and a tear escaped from one of her eyes.
"Please..stop overdoing it! You have to escape somehow! I don't want you to get hurt because of me.." She said as she cried in her hands.
"It's..okay.." I said.
*Izuku's p.o.v.*
I watched as my friend rushed to her side and held up tons and tons of weight to save her from being crushed. He was willing to sacrifice his life to save hers.
Blood poured out of his eyes, nose and mouth rapidly. He could faint any second now.
I couldn't move a single muscle In my body. I was to scared. All I could do was listen to their voices in my head.
'Sorry about that. I'm glad I caught you in time.'
'Sorry for going crazy with my Quirk there. I just think It'd be a bad omen if you tripped, you know?'
'Leave him alone. He's just happy to be here.'
'I'm so nervous. Bet you are, too! Well, see you later, bye!'
'I know you have the strength to pass this exam, Izuku. Show me.'
'I'd do it again and again. We're..friends after all.'
'I guess I..wanted Izuku to be the first to test that theory out with me.'
Before I knew It, I was already halfway to the robot. I clenched my fist together and reared back.
'There are no combat points rewarded for taking on the humongous giant. But there is, opportunity..' I jumped as hard as I could, flying into the air.
'So clench your butt cheeks kid.'
'And yell this from the depths of your heart! SSSSMMMAAAAASSSHHH-UHHHH!!!'
With one punch to the robots head, I destroyed it and pushed it back a great amount, finally lifting it off of (F/N).
I started falling back to the ground and realized my right arm and both of my legs were broken and completely unable to move.
'Oh no! I'm falling! If I hit the ground, I'm dead! How do I save myself, think, think! Oh yeah, a Detroit Smash! But I've gotta time it right or I'm dead! But If I use this arm, I really won't have a chance to get any points! Then It'll be all over! I'm so sorry, All Might..I'm so sorry!'
*(F/N) p.o.v.*
'I can't believe his strength..he took down that giant robot in one punch..'
"Oh no, he's falling! It looks like his arm and legs are broken, we have to save him!" The girl yelled desperately.
"Your.." I coughed up blood. The girl placed her hand on my arm worriedly. "Quirk..you can use it on humans, too, right?" I asked.
"I can." She said.
I stood up and raised the concrete off of her and pulled her out.
"Can you walk?" I asked.
"Ah! N-No..I can't." She said, her face full of pain.
I turned my back towards her and crouched down.
"Get on my back." I said.
She wrapped her arms around my neck and I picked her up and ran below Izuku.
My body felt so weak. I probably only have about two minutes before I pass out.
"Hold on."
She held on tighter and I jumped up fourty meters.
She smacked him in the face and placed her fingers together.
I landed back on the ground and gently sat her down.
I held my arms out under Izuku.
"Release."
As she said that, Izuku softly fell into my arms.
I stood there, heavily breathing while holding Izuku.
Everyone slowly walked up and surrounded us.
"Did..you see that punch?" Someone said.
"It was incredible. How is he so strong?"
"Guys..you're leaving someone out..that guy, he was holding up the full weight of that robot..he just might be the strongest person here besides that weirdo who destroyed it." A student said.
I softly set Izuku on the ground.
"How you holding up?" I asked the girl.
"I'll survive. But you shouldn't be worried about me right now. Your injuries are really bad.." She said.
"What's your name?" I asked tiredly.
"Ochako Uraraka. What's yours?" She asked.
"(F/N) (L/N)." I said.
"It's nice to meet you, (F/N). Thank you for saving my life..That was really cool and noble of you." Uraraka said.
"You're very welcome. I'm just happy were all still here." I said.
She smiled at me. "Me, too. Very much so."
I extended my hand towards her and offered a handshake.
"Let's be friends, yeah?" I asked.
"Yes. I'd love that." She said with a bright smile and shook my hand.
"Alright, get outta my way, outta my way."
A short old woman in a nurse outfit walked up to us and extended her lips a couple feet out and kissed Izuku's head.
His body healed immediately.
All of the students were weirded out by how long her lips extended.
"Woah, It's recovery girl!" A student said.
She reached in her pockets and through gummies on Izuku.
"Here, eat these." She said.
'He can't eat that right now'. I said to myself.
She started giving everyone else gummies and got to me.
I put them in my pocket and stood up and started walking back to the entrance.
"You! The one that creates explosions! Come over here!" Recovery girl said.
"The names Bakugo, old hag..what do you want?" He asked.
"I'm going to need you to help him to the nurses office." She said as she pointed at me.
"Huh? Why? He can walk by himself." Bakugo said as he walked over to me.
I was desperately trying to keep conscious.
Every step I took got harder.
Blood started pouring out of my eyes, nose and mouth again. I don't know why.
The students gasped.
I fell over.
"Woah now. You over did it way to much and hurt yourself, dumb ass." Bakugo said as he caught me.
He gave me a piggy back ride to the nurses office.
My consciousness was fading in and out.
I opened my eyes slightly and watched as he carried me to the nurse's office.
"I'm sorry.." I muttered.
"Hm? What are you talking about?" He asked.
"I'm sorry for thinking you were a bad guy..I like you..let's be..friends.." I said before I finally lost consciousness.
Bakugo's heart slightly dropped, his eyes widened.
"Tch..shut up.."
