42; The Storm

Third Person's POV

The day had come so swiftly. Stress levels were high as they anticipated the attack. There had been no sign of an attack or an approach. They were prepared.

Mason's plan was in motion but wasn't full set-up. They all weren't sure of the power that Mavis could carry - at least not yet.

Currently, Marcus and Red sat on a sofa. They were cuddling each other as if today may have been her last day.

"Do you really think we'll be okay?" Red mumbled to Marcus. He hugged her tighter into his chest.

"We'll be fine. Mason has a plan, remember?" Marcus told her. "We'll be fine." He repeated.

Red turned slightly, more away from Marcus as she thought about it herself. Mavis could get hurt. This could go badly. "I'm just worried." She uttered.

"Don't be." He replied curtly. "In a month- even in a weeks times we'll all be happy." Red looked in his eyes.

"Promise?"

"Promise."

Down the corner, Olive and Ren seemed to be training - knowing that they both were bad with any sort of weapon and didn't have the power of shapeshifting. They knew that their type of magic would prove to be useless in battle.

Olive seemed to be using the sword whilst Ren decided on using a crossbow. This was all determined in their reaction speed, strength and aim.

"Bullseye!" Ren called as he managed to hit the target in front of him. He cheered and turned to Olive who smiled with a highfive ready.

She, in turn, grabbed a dagger from her back pocket before throwing it at his target. He gave her a look and she responded with a cheeky smile on her face as she managed to get a better shot than Ren

Watching the couplle, Rosie was playing with her fingers. She was the most nervous. She knew that Sebastian would get involved with this as well. It was inevitable. She still wondered how he was and whether he'd decided to change his ways and become more peaceful.

She shook her head of those thoughts.

She dreamed that this would turn out okay. That no one she loved got hurt, but that was also inevitable. Someone she loves would die and she couldn't stop that.

In the Golden Moon pack, Jude sat there with Layla. They weren't going to get involved, they both weren't fighters and with Jude's secret out in the open, Layla couldn't bare to let him go. Their child, Celeste, sat there whilst trying to grab onto Layla's hand which was holding onto the cot.

Jude was currently thinking. He was thinking about both his sisters :Alena and Mavis. He didn't know if Mavis was okay which scared him half to death and he couldn't get in contact with Alena. He knew that Alena would be busy preparing for injured patients.

"I feel useless." Jude admitted to Layla. She traced the black lines on his arm. "I should be doing something." He went to get up but Layla pushed him down.

"It's out of our hands, all we can do is hope." She smiled at him whilst placing a hand on her stomach and lying her head on his lap. "When it's over, we have to cater for the returning members. We should concentrate on that."

"Okay." He mouthed, breathlessly.

The storm had begun, they had already left the safety of the Dark Sun pack and were approaching the Royal Pack. Throughout the pack there were cynical smiles yet one full of guilt was hidden.

She was in the front of the storm, her eyes consisting of invisible tears. She knew that there was no turning back but she'd put her family in harms way. She regreted that throughly.

They decided to rest for five minutes and she found herself moving towards Mavis's motionless body. She couldn't help but gasp as she felt her cold skin. She held in a cry of guilt. "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry."

A small, almost invisible, smile made its way on Mavis's face. "It's okay." The shell responded, it wasn't loud and she wasn't sure if she heard it or not.

She bent down and hugged Mavis for dear life and although her heart was heavy and full of regret, she knew that she had to go through with what was planned. It wasn't in her hands anymore.

Elouise couldn't help but cry.

Face-to-face they stood, they continued to stare at each other. Both packs had approached the battlefield, one would win and the other would lose. They would not be a draw. There would never be a draw, not in this battle.

A battle between family members, friends, strangers and enemies.

War cries were heard in the distance as the fight had begun. You couldn't see past the next person and no one was sure of who they really were attacking. The casualties had already stacked up, around a hundred had already fallen.

Mavis sat there, near the back but next to a fallen tree. She didn't have the power to do anything, to think even. All Mavis was doing was laying down on the tree when she heard a voice.

"Mavis!" It was a cry. A cry from a certain guy that she'd fallen for. She could sense him approaching her and she tried to lift her arm.

"Don't." Was the word to escape her lips. Brett was unsure of why she wouldn't want him near her.

Mavis knew that the energy flowing from her body could kill him. If he got too close, death would be inevitable.

"You'll die." She croaked out. Her head starting to feel woozy all over again as she continued to sit there.

"I don't care about that." His face full of sorrow and pity as he continued to approach the dying girl. "As long as I am with you, I don't care."

"Brett..." The word slipped from her tongue.

"It's okay Mavis, you're okay." He whispered in her ear as he got close enough.

Brett could feel himself deteroriating, just like Mavis. His body began to become instantly weak but he didn't care, the blood pouring out of his stomach would surely kill him first.

"I'm so sorry." Mavis sobbed, a tear escaped her eye as she tried to open them. Brett, using some of the last of his energy, moved the hair that was in her mouth and pulled her into him.

"It's okay May, it's okay. Do you remember what you told me when we were younger?" She didn't respond. "You told me that as long as we're together, nothing can hurt us." Another tear fell but this time from both eyes. "I still believed that Mavis, when we're together nothing can hurt us."

"I love you." These were the last words to come out both of their mouths as they laid there on the floor, dead still.

Mavis's magic wasn't fully ran out, on the contary, she still had about half a cell of magic in her and Valencia was taking advantage of it but the war wasn't over yet.

Everyone, completely oblivious to Mavis and Brett, was still fighting and Mason had already prepared his secret weapon. What gave the opposing side the advantage? Magic.

Throughout the Lupus family, they had kept this weapon in secret. No one knew about it but the reigning Alpha. The weapon allowed - a certain radius - for magic to be neutralised. Mason was currently trying to run it but strapping himself to the machine and allowing it to use his Alpha blood to run it.

It had worked soon enough as the Dark Sun pack fully lost their advantage and the Royal pack were finally getting the upperhand over the Dark Sun pack. It seemed that they were going to win and Valencia was becoming fustrated as she tried and tried to use her magic.

But she was losing the war.

In the distance, Marcus found himself locating Valencia. His anger seemed to be taking over him. Once he was in front of her, Valencia looked at him in surprise. She tried her best to use every single power she had in her but nothing was working, especially as she felt Mavis slip away.

"I won't lose against you mutt." She snarled out. He grumbled rougly at her and he approached her sketchily.

Before he could fully attack him, he felt himself getting tackled to the ground. He turned to his attacker and was surprised to find his sister. "Get away from her brother." She growled out.

"Elouse." He uttered in surprise.

"You guys killed dad." She growled out again whilst running up to her brother and attempting to injure him.

"What are you talking about?" His voice still rough. "Dad died because of her." He spat in the direction of Valencia.

"Why would she do that?" She snarled.

"Because she was trying to kill our mother." Marcus explained, dodging yet another attack from Elouise.

Elouise seemed to calm down a bit. "You told our mother that Valencia and dad were dating." She threw back at him.

"I was young!" He defended. "She already knew anyway. It didn't matter."

"What are you talking about?" She growled whilst trying to scratch Marcus.

"I read her diary, okay!" He expressed. "It was full of jealousy and plans but it suddenly stopped."

Elouise seemed to drop slightly. "No." Not only was she surprised about this discovery but she realised she put her trust in the wrong person.

Mavis will be alright, I've done this before. Valencia had previously told Elouise, but now she seemed to be doubting that, especially since Valencia's magic seemed to be lacking.

Marcus looked around and saw that Valencia has fled. "Come on." He growled at his sister, grabbing her hand and attempted to find Valencia.
