Chapter 7 - Pack Training Pt. 1
I jog outside and take a deep breath of the crisp, refreshing morning air. I planned out in my head what was going to happen. Once everyone was up and outside, I would get them all to run 50 laps of the pack land as warmup.
Then, I was going to pair them up and see how well they could fight - but only in human form. After that, I would get them to do fitness, like push ups, sit ups, crunches, burpees and sprints, and then I would teach them different fighting moves, depending on how well they can fight already.
And finally, after all that was done, I would pair them off and let them practice what I had taught them. Then, depending on how nice I'm feeling, I'll let them go early to lunch.
I took a deep breath, and looked at my watch. 4:29. Perfect. I head inside, and grab the emergency air horn, a cunning smile on my face. I hold it up, and watch the clock, waiting for it to hit 4:30.
30 seconds.......20 seconds..........10 seconds..............5............4............3....................2..............HOOOOOOOOOOOOT HOOT HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT HOOT HOOT HOOOOOOOOOOT.
I slam my finger down on the horn in the sequence used to alert the pack members of a rogue attack, letting out a deafening sound. I shake my head to clear my ears, and watch as people rush outside of their rooms, worried about what's happening.
I see Jackson rush outside of his room, and down the stairs, concerned. However when he reaches me, and sees the smile on my face, the worried look turns to one of absolute anger and hatred.
"WHAT IS GOING ON?!" He yells, angry.
I ignore him, and set the air horn back down, whistling, before turning to everyone else.
"Good morning everyone! It's training time!" I sang cheerfully, while everyone glared at me.
"Uhh, why does the bitch have to get us up this early. Like, seriously. What the hell does she have against mornings?" I spun around and faced the person who said that, and I wasn't shocked at all to find out that it was one of the girls that was in the more popular group of kids that bullied me.
I sent an icy glare her way, and holding her stare, I announced loudly to everyone with a tight smirk on my face, "Well, now you'll be doing an extra hour of training."
I turned to look at everyone else as they groaned. "Don't come complaining to me. If you have an issue, you can sort it out with Layna."
She sent a shocked look at me, surprised that I remembered her name. I just smirked back. "I suggest you all go and get ready, and meet me outside, because training starts at five."
I saw all of the girls and some of the guys glance at the clock and shriek, before running off to get ready.
I feel Jackson death glaring the side of my head, so I turn and smile sweetly at him. "You should go get ready too."'
He sent me a final killer look, before storming off to his room.
Jackson's POV:
I storm off to my room, trying to deal with the rage inside me. Maybe everyone was right. She can't be a good Luna if she blatantly uses the alarm signal for rogue attacks just to get us up for training.
I sigh and run a hand through my hair. Oh, who am I kidding. The real reason my emotions are so over the place isn't because I'm mad at her, it's because I can't cope with being near her again after so long, and my wolf is no better.
I can't take this. It's too much. I wish I could just run up to her, hold her in my arms, and kiss her, and apologise for everything that I did and said, but then, another part of me wants to block her out, and ignore her, just like she did to me.
My wolf, Alex, whimpered, wanting to go to her, but I stood my ground, knowing that she had changed, and I was pretty sure that if I went crawling back to her, it would end up with me being disappointed, and her getting her sweet revenge.
I didn't know what to do, and when I glanced at my watch, I saw that it was dead, but it surely couldn't have been that long since I came back in, so I went in to have a shower to try and release the stress and tension from my shoulders.
I would worry about Scarlett after I had relaxed. Besides, even if I was late to training, what's the worst that could happen?
Scarlett's POV:
I placed around in front of the pack house, waiting for everyone to arrive. Dylan and my parents were the first to arrive, getting there at 4:45.
"Hey Sis." Dylan waves at me.
I waved back and walked over to them.
"Hey guys, you ready?" I asked cheerfully.
My parents just groaned in response.
"I need a coffee." My mother mumbled.
I chuckled at her. "Well don't you worry, as soon as we start to train, you'll be more than awake."
Just as we were talking, Aaron, Chase, Samuel and Jordan came walking over to us, dragging a half asleep Alessia with them.
When they reached us, I chuckled at how Alessia looked. Aaron grunted and palmed her off to me. "Please. Please. Take her." He begged.
I lifted her face up, and made her look at me. "You can go back to bed, Alessia, today I'm just seeing how well they can fight, I'm not actually going to train them anything, and I already know how well you can fight."
Upon hearing that, her eyes lit up and she didn't waste anytime running back to her room. Chuckling, I turned to the boys. "Same goes for you guys. You can go back to bed if you want."
Aaron shook his head. "No, I'll stay. It'll be good to see what they know and you might need a little help."
I nodded, accepting his answer, and turned to Chase, Samuel and Jordan. They nodded their heads and agreed with Aaron. "We'll stay." Chase confirmed.
"Ok, then." I clapped. "Once everyone starts arriving, we'll do warmup, and then some fighting."
I turned to the boys, and dragged them over to my family, preparing to do some introductions.
"Ok guys, this is my mum, Cara, my dad, David, and my brother, Dylan." I turned around and spoke to my family. "This is Samuel, or Sam for short, and Jordan, and they're twins. This is Chase, the Beta, and Aaron, the Alpha of the Crescent Fighters pack."
Dylan gapes. "Wait. YOU'RE the Alpha of the Crescent Fighters pack!?! Woah!" He asks, astounded.
Aaron just chuckles. "Yes, I am, but you can just call me Aaron."
My dad shakes Aaron's hand. "It's nice to meet you. Thank you, for taking my daughter in, and giving her a place to stay, we are forever in debt to you. If there is anything that you need, please let me know, and I will take care of it."
Aaron grips my dads hand, with both of his, and gives him a small smile. "It is honestly my pleasure."
He turns and smiles at me, then looks back at my dad. "She's the best thing that's happened for our pack in a long time."
I smile at him, and then people start to stumble out of the pack house, and Aaron pulls back, coming to stand beside me.
"You ready?" He asks, looking me in the eye.
I give him a tense smile back. "As ready as I'll ever be."
The pack complex is a pretty big place. There's the three storey pack house, surrounded by the Alpha's house and the Beta's house, which of course they can share with their families if they don't want to be in the pack house, and training/weaponry sheds. Together, along with some spare houses for important guests, they form a semi-circle around the wide, circular paved driveway, with a water fountain in the middle.
That area then leads off into a wide open, grassed area, and acres upon acres of forest, all in our property. Not to mention, behind the pack house, there is a massive space for training, relaxing, and for the young pups, playing around.
All in all, it's a very nice place to live, but the openness of the front area, combined with the dense trees, give us both advantages and disadvantages, and if the pack aren't properly trained to predict, and survive an attack from both areas, the result could be worse than the last attack.
I snap out of my thoughts when I see that there is a large group gathered in front of me.
I clear my throat, and prepare to start.
"Hello and welcome to your first training session! Now, before we begin, is there anyone that's not here?"
Everyone glances around, and talk among themselves, before they turn back, and a nervous, shy looking pup that looks to be around 16 steps forward.
"Um, everyone except for the Alpha is here." She says in a small voice.
I raise an eyebrow, not happy that he wasn't there. I look back down at her, and smile warmly, thanking her.
She scrambles back, and hides in the middle of the crowd.
I clear my throat, getting everyone's attention. "Ok, so this is how it's gonna work. It's 5:05, and your Alpha still isn't here."
I sighed before continuing. "Honestly, I'm quite disappointed, because training is a team effort, and he's the one who reached to me in the first place, yet he doesn't even have the decency to turn up to training on time."
I shake my head. "Anyway, I want you all to remember that this is not a game, ok? That's why I woke you all up with the rogue attack siren. So it would prepare you. If something happens, and you can't be bothered to get out of bed, that could result in an extra 10 people dying. Do you really want that weight on your shoulders? I wouldn't think so. I was called out here to help YOU, because your pack was attacked, and YOU didn't want to be unprepared if it happens again. So, here I am, but if any of you don't want to put the effort in, then please, leave now. I will not waste my time on you, if you're not even going to put the effort in." I stood there, waiting, but no one left.
I let a smile form on my face. "Good. Now, I want to let you all know that I won't be going easy on you. In the same way, however, I'm not going to go out of my way to make your lives miserable, so don't worry about that. To start off, I want everyone to give me 50 laps around the pack complex. So through the forest, and the open area, and finally, around the pack house and buildings."
Everyone's groans were so loud, I had to quieten them down. "Come on guys. The quicker you get this done, the quicker we can move on." I clapped my hands once, and everyone started to run off.
I walked over to a tree log, and sat down, stretching my arms and legs, and I felt Aaron sit down next to me. I looked over at him and smiled, stretching my legs out.
"Where are the boys?" I asked, not seeing them behind him, where they normally are.
"They went on the run, trying to scope out the land and the pack itself."
"Then why aren't you going with them? You normally jump at the chance to scope out new territory." I was confused. He was known for disappearing randomly to walk around different pack grounds, so it didn't make sense that he wouldn't go.
He grimaced and reluctantly started to explain. "Yeah, ok, you got me. I'm not going around because I-" he took a deep breath and sighed, before finishing in a quiet whisper that I only just heard. "I already know the area off by heart."
My heart started to race and my breathing sped up. I was shocked beyond measure, and I motioned for him to continue.
"The truth is" he sighed regrettably. "I wasn't born or raised in the Crescent Fighters pack. I- I was actually like you. A rogue. My pack rejected me and I was accepted into the Crescent Fighters pack, and the previous Alpha took me in, so when he died, I was made Alpha."
I gasped as the pieces started to fall together, but I didn't want to believe what he was telling me. I was desperately hoping it was that he just roamed around different packs while he was a rogue and that's how he knows the land, or something like that, but something told me that wasn't the case.
"What are you saying?" I whispered, deadly quiet.
He closed his eyes and winced while rubbing the back of his neck. "What I'm saying is that I was once in your pack. I got framed for murder, and I was banished. It was two days before my sixteenth birthday, which is why I've never found my mate. Joseph, the previous Alpha took me in, and well, the rest is history." He shrugged, trying to brush the whole matter off.
I stand up and start acing, my head pounding.
"Look, Scar, it's honestly not that big of a de-"
I spun around and glared at home, full force. "DON'T YOU DARE SAY THIS IS NOT A BIG DEAL! I HAVE BEEN IN YOUR PACK FOR FOUR YEARS AND YOU NEVER ONCE THOUGHT ABOUT TELLING ME!?! FOUR YEARS AARON. Four years." I trailed off, mentally exhausted.
"Scarlett I-"
"No, don't. Just, just tell me one thing." I look at him, fearful but determined to know the answer.
"Did you know me when you were in the pack? Is that the only reason you got me to join the pack?"
He looks down in shame.
"Yes, I knew you, but that's not why I let you in." He looked down, and sighed. "I wanted you to join because- because I saw myself in you. I saw someone heartbroken, lost, scared and in need of refuge., and I knew from the second I saw you that you were from here, and I didn't want another person to suffer from Jackson's hands." He ended in a growl.
I raise my eyebrow at him in confusion, and seeing it, he continued.
"Jackson's friends were the ones who framed me for murder. I used to get along with him but then something happened and when his friends framed me, he didn't even say a word." He snarled bitterly. "Not one damn word."
I looked at him, some of my anger slipping away, and I sunk back down onto the log.
"I'm sorry I went off. It's just that the whole time that I've been in your pack, you never once mentioned it. Not even when I was hurting. Not once when I was having panic attacks and nightmares because of this place. Not even then."
I shake my head, just plain tired. "Just go. Please. Just go."
He started to argue with me, but I put my hand up, stopping him, and he slowly nods, and walks back into the pack house.
I sigh, and run my hands through my hair, resting my head in my hands. I gave a small, sad chuckle and murmured to myself. "When did life get so hard?"
My head snapped up as I heard people start to arrive back from the run, and I look down at my watch, impressed. It had only taken them just over an hour. But then I recognise the scents, and I roll my eyes, shaking my head with a smile. It was Chase, Sam and Jordan.
They come running through, not even sweating, and I laugh at them, flopping back down onto the log. They come over to me, but Chase frowns when he can't see Aaron.
"He's back inside, I told him to get out of my sight." I said dryly, knowing that it'd be his next question.
"Why?" Sam asked, confused. "What happened?"
I sighed, and told them the whole story, and by the end of it, they were ready to go inside and rip his head off. Apparently, they hadn't known either.
After I calmed them down, it wasn't very long until the pack came running through, completely out of breath and panting.
I shake my head at them, a grim smile on my face at just how unfit they are.
"Congratulations. You finished warmup. Although, if I were you, I wouldn't be taking my running shoes off yet, because one of my policies is that teams train together, and stick together. No matter what. However, that also means that if anyone from any of my training sessions is late, the entire group will run one lap for every minute that they are late, and if it's two people, you run it twice, if it's three, you run it three times. You see where I'm going with this right? Good."
I look down at my watch and see that Jackson is already 48 minutes late.
I look back up at the group who all look utterly defeated, and broke the worst part of the news to them.
"By the way, your Alpha is already 48 minutes late, oh, make that 49. So you are all going to be running 49 more laps at least. Oh yeah, and if anyone skips, without talking to me first and being excused, the next day you'll all run laps for the duration of training, and then we'll do extra training time afterwards, so I'd suggest not missing a session."
"Right." I clap my hands together, eager to get the real training started. "I'm going to pair you off and see how well you can fi-"
I trail off as I both see the looks of horror and hatred on everyone's faces, and smell the scent of one of the people I want to see least in the world - Jackson.
I put a small smile on my face, and spin around. "Ahh, I see you've decided to join us Mr. O'Brian. You're only" I check the time quickly. "56 minutes late." I hear everyone groaning behind me, as I explain to Jackson what's going on.
The whole time he just glares at me, before walking over to stand in front of the rest of the pack, with his arms crossed.
"Right. Jackson, you better get moving, you have 106 laps of the pack grounds to do. Chop chop. Times running out." He gives me one more hatred filled scowl before taking off, and I turn to the rest of the group. "I would start now if I were you, the quicker you get it done, the longer break you'll have waiting for your Alpha to finish."
They all run off, and I sigh, popping my neck, laughing slightly at how interesting it's going to be training them.
