Chapter 2
Mason POV:
It hurt. I thought I would come into her life, and she would except me. But she doesn't. And I could tell that I wasn't going to be with her anytime soon. All these years, I had watched over her, and her family, but she still doesn't recognize me.
"You can't expect her to trust you yet." Says my sister, Evie. I didn't hesitate to tell her how disappointed I was. All though Evie had warned me about the fact she doesn't trust people straight away, It still hurt.
I knew basically everything about her. The fact that when she's nervous she bites her cheek. The fact that her brother hates her. The fact her favourite singer Shawn Mendes. I knew almost everything, just from watching her day in and out.
"I know, but I guess I expected it to go better then it did. She wouldn't even study with me." Complains weren't hidden in my voice, and when Evie shakes her head, I sigh.
"And how many times have you even talked to her? That's right... once." Evie smiles, and laughs. Since she put it that way, it did give me a bit of hope. Melanie is mine. I am her guardian Angel, and nothing can get in between us.
Melanie POV:
The bus was always my second choice. I hated bussing, because then people have to sit next to me. I was an introvert, and when people go into my personal bubble, I feel suffocated. It feels like I'm being crammed into a closet, not getting a last breath.
"Hey." Says Adam, sitting next to me. He was in my math class, and I knew him very well. We had been friends since second grade, and after that we never really left each other sights. Yesterday he wasn't there in maths, so that was why Mason got the chance to even sit next to me.
"Adam, hey." He puts his bag down near his feet and smiles. I couldn't help but notice when Mason came on the bus that he stared. At Adam. I could tell by the way that Adam was staring back that Adam wasn't intimidated by Mason in any way.
"So... what did we do in maths?" He asks, turning all his focus on me. I blush, and get out my maths book.
"Same old, Same old." I say, opening the book to the page we worked on yesterday. 117? Or 118?
"Great!" He says, making me laugh. It was the way that he said it, that made me notice how close Mason was sitting next to us. Adam had said it so loud, that Mason could hear us. It was funny, because Mason didn't even try to hide the fact he was listening to our conversation.
"Well. This is it." I say, handing him my book. His brown streaked with blond hair falls in front of his face, as he looks at the book.
Since maths was first, I decided to make sure Adam was there. But he wasn't going to be. He was going to an award assembly. So I had to be myself again. But Mason just had to come in, and sit next to me. Ali was not impressed with this. She even walked over to our table, to ask why he was sitting with me. There was definitely a nicer way she could've said it, but what surprised was Mason's answer.
"Last time I checked you weren't my mum, so unless you're stating that you are, I really don't think that it's any of your business." I let out a chuckle, and see that Ali is not impressed. In fact, she looked like she was on the verge of crying. But I didn't care. No one had ever dared her like that, and in my opinion, I think Mason deserves a medal.
"Well, just remember I'm here." She says, walking shyly over to her desk. Serves you right, Ali. Never mess with Me! I mean... Mason. Never mess with Mason.
"So are we going to work together or what?" Asks Mason, grabbing the book. He had snapped me out of my mind war, and now I realised he was smiling. He probably felt proud of himself too.
"Yes. We are." I say, getting the book, and dragging it towards me. But he drags it towards him.
"Hello! It's my book!" I complain. He smiles, and it only just clicks in my head, that I was life then I thought.
"Well, I'm your partner! I deserve to get it first." He says, much calmer then myself. I drag it towards me, at the same time he drags it towards him. We looked like little kids just fighting over a maths book, but I was not giving up.
And then a thought comes to my head. Words.
"First you want to study together! And now you're stealing books! You little-" I start, but Mr Grayback cuts me off, clearly annoyed that we were fighting over a book. The rest of the class were looking at us, as well. I flush from embarrassment. And all of this was because of Mason.
"Do I need to do a whole lesson on how to share? You're acting like 5 years olds, Melanie and Mason. Now-" he starts, but I cut him off.
"Mason started it! If he hadn't decided to just-" Mr Grayback, makes us zip our mouths, and gestures towards the door.
"I will be organising a lesson with Mr Hotelier about sharing. You two are acting like 5 year olds!" He complains.
Ali was happy about that fact we were both getting told off.
"Go to the office, and Mr Hotelier will be waiting." He says.
As the door bangs behind us, I swallow a big ball of saliva that had been stuck in my throat.
"I can't believe you! It was my book! First you ask to study after one class together, and then you go around stealing my property!" I yell, not hiding my anger in front of him.
"Melanie, I'm sorry okay. I didn't think that Mr Grayback would react like that. And remember you only live once, and when you're old, you'll think of this as a funny experience." He says, laughing at what we had just done.
"You know what? Just stay away from me. Adam will be back at maths tomorrow, and he is not giving up his seat to some new boy. So leave me alone. Go sit with Ali, I'm sure she'd love the attention you give to everyone."
Mason's face turned upset very upset. And now I look at him this way, I realise that I've seen him before. This is not the first time in my life I had ever seen Mason Waters. In fact, I've seen him many times before without even knowing it.
