Ten Pool Commandments

(Need I explain? Szin. Narration: Lee. OOOH bet you weren't expecting that.)

Ah heck. I knew I probably shouldn't be going to the party. I'd been slowly riling Alexis Hamilton and Jen Laurens all year. They'd murder me here, and throw my corpse in the water. Maybe having Ms.Washington there would stop that. But could I be sure about that? I knew what I did was stupid, I'm just a stupid coward. Well, it was potential murder at pool, or....uncomfortable day with my parents. Heck, murder sounded freaking great now. I packed up my stuff and headed out. As I was walking over to Lafayette's place, a sense of dread hung over me. I'd actually insulted Ms.Washington before school had ended. She might not save me from the homicide.

"Ah, Lee!" Someone said. I turned around. Oh. Gahhh, Samuela.

"Hi....can you leave?" I said. Samuela adjusted her glasses.

"Why? I'm sure we're going to the same place." Samuela said. She adjusted the strap on her bag. I looked around. Oh, yes. Lafayette's place was over there, to the west. Now, just...get away from Samuela, get past the crowd, and get in before being brutally murdered by Alexis and Jen. Sounds like a doable task...

"I've got to drop something off to Lafayette before the party starts." I said. Samuela nodded. It was a simple lie. I rushed off. Then, my next obstacle. A mob of seventh graders. Oh boy, did I need help. I tried to push my way past. No luck. Tunnel? No. I resorted to going around the back and climbing over the wall. Bad idea? Yes! Very! Did it get me in? Yeah. I jumped down and walked over to the pool, where Lafayette was standing. She had an interesting swimsuit on. A full body, with the French flag being the primary scheme. Alexis was there, in sun hat and swimsuit. She was relaxing on a chair, sunglasses on. Jen was next to her, clad in turtle gear. Hera....right? She was in the shade of a building overhang, and furiously sewing something. Ariana, was there too. She was relaxing on a floating flamingo in the middle of the pool. I looked at Lafayette. She was very calm.

"Hey, uh, Lafayette. I uh...are you...gonna let the mob in?" I shouted. Lafayette looked at me.

"Mon ami? You made it. There's really a mob out there? Should I let them in, gang?" She said. Alexis waved a hand, then went inside. Jen shrugged. Ariana sipped from her drink and Hera blinked. "Oh, ok. Oui, I'll let them in." She said and walked over to the front gate. She unlatched it and a mob of around 50 students fell in. We had, quick list...

The Schuylers. Van Rensselaer, Reynolds, Doe, Art club, Athletics team, and maybe 25 seventh graders I didn't know. Oh yeah, also Samuela. I quickly ran inside and changed, then ran back out. Everyone was chilling around or in the pool. Alexis started running around, and knocked a few kids into the water.

"Non! Mon Ami, Alexis, Non!" Lafayette shouted. She was in a Lifeguard like chair. She jumped down. "Must I tell you more? You do not run around the pool. Now everyone, has to come review the rules. Ten Pool Commandments, if you will." Lafayette added. Everyone, as best they could, gathered. Lafayette then reviewed the basics with us.

"This is....incredibly intricate." Jen Laurens said. She blinked. "Why?"

(Narrator switch up. Jen. Enjoy.)

"Alexis, why is Lee here?" I whispered. Alexis frowned.

"Courtesy invitation. I'll be inside." She said. She walked into Laf's house. I followed her in.

"Why DID Laf invite Lee? She knows we don't like Lee." I said. I plucked the sunglasses off of Alexis.

"Why'd you do that?" Alexis said. We walked towards the kitchen.

"Why not?"

"I hate you."

"Love you too, Alexis."

"I need to continue my writing. We are starting eighth grade in a few months." Alexis muttered.

"Months. You have time..." I said. Alexis looked back at me.

"I most certainly do not have enough time." She said. She snatched her shades back and then stopped at the kitchen. "Should we make some stuff?"

"Definitely not baked stuff. Not in this weather." I said. Alexis nodded and we got to work doing some cooking. Was it a bad idea we didn't tell Laf? Maybe. But we knew what we were doing. We weren't gonna start a house fire. Ahem.. cough cough.

"OK, so we have several plates of...what is this again?" Alexis said. I sighed.

"Cucumber sandwiches." I said. "It's refreshing and should be nice!" Alexis grumbled.

"Well, it looks a bit iffy to me." She said. Then she came and pecked me on the cheek.

"Well, Alexis...let's go." I said. Then we walked out and handed cucumber sandwiches to everyone. They accepted them. And ate them. Lee refused.

"Sorry, I just don't feel like it." She said. She smiled and then went back to watching people. I shrugged and walked away. There wasn't much else I could do. She made her own choices.

"Alexis! Jen!" A voice said. It was Ms.Washington. She had appeared. Recently, by the looks of it.

Then she went into the house to change. Me and Alexis went inside and placed our trays into the dishwasher. We then relaxed in the sun.

"Honestly...Ms.Washington is kinda boring." Lee drawled. She stood up. And then mocked Ms.Washington. "Look! Learning! What fun!!!"

"This is ridiculous. We've talked to her all of seventh grade about this." I said. Alexis stood up.

"Lee. What the heck is wrong with you? Why would you debase someone so good like that?" Alexis said. Lee rolled her eyes.

"And you, the little helper. 'Alexis, Alexis...'" Lee said. She waved her hands in the air. "Sooo special!" Alexis was getting angry. I could tell this wouldn't end well. For Lee, Alexis, heck, even me? I don't know. Alexis stomped over and punched Lee. Lee went splashing into the water. Lafayette looked over. Hera looked up. Everyone looked at Lee. She swam back to the edge of the pool and got out. Then she rubbed the spot where she'd been punched.

"Are you picking a fight with me?" She snarled. Alexis nodded and crossed her arms.

"Don't go ruining my and Ms.Washington's reputation!" Alexis said. Then all hell broke loose. The two started fighting. Everyone backed away, then fled to the corners of the yard. Lafayette came over and tried to separate them, to no luck. Then Ms.Washington came out.

"Alexis. Stop." She said. "That's your only warning. Before I call your caretaker." Lee stuck her tongue out at Alexis and me. I was starting to see the red mist too.

"Alexis. Go inside and calm down. Lee, please return home. Everyone else...resume activities!" Mrs.Washington said. Everyone tentatively came back to their original spots and looked at the two combatants. Then they thought better and looked away. Ms.Washington had a talk with Alexis.

The party ended on a sour note. Everyone left, and Alexis was fairly angry. She decided to stay at my place for a bit. That's fine. We hung out, and eventually Alexis went to her own house. I think that the party was.. somewhat successful? I don't think Laf's gonna host one ever again. I took out my journal and wrote down what had happened. It had been certainly eventful.
