Under the Surface
"Alpha Sanskar, Miss Bose's injury was dire initially. Surviving such a fatal head injury was miraculous in and of itself. However, within just an hour, it had completely healed. It's truly astonishing," Dr. Khanna said, his tone reflecting both surprise and confusion.
Sanskar massaged his temples, struggling to comprehend the situation. "Are you implying... she's not a creature or a wizard?" he queried, his tone laced with uncertainty.
"That's correct. Initially, I had doubts when I observed that her wound wasn't as severe as it should have been considering the fall. But witnessing her rapid healing, I'm convinced..." Dr. Khanna trailed off, his expression grave.
Piecing together Dr. Khanna's observations with his own suspicions, Sanskar ventured, "Are you implying that Swara is a werewolf, endowed with remarkable healing powers?"
"Indeed, that's my conclusion. Such rapid healing is characteristic of werewolves," Dr. Khanna affirmed with certainty.
Sanskar squeezed the bridge of his nose, grappling with confusion and weariness from the sudden revelation. "Isn't she a wizard? Is she some kind of hybrid? And why did she never disclose this to me?" he queried, his voice tinged with frustration.
"In many cases, even supernatural beings are unaware of their hybrid status. It appears that Miss Bose was unaware of her true powers," Dr. Khanna speculated, drawing from his wealth of experience.
"Then how do we help her unlock her dormant abilities as a hybrid? Is there a way to awaken her inner wolf?" Sanskar pressed, his impatience seeping into his words.
If Swara truly is a werewolf and has the ability to shift, Sanskar wouldn't hesitate to publicly declare her as his Luna, unburdened by concerns about her safety as a target for their enemies. Moreover, he's eager to uncover the unique powers she possesses as a werewolf, which led her to be chosen as his mate, a powerful alpha.
"Miss Bose has been handpicked by the moon goddess for a significant purpose, a rare honor bestowed upon very few. Let's hope she awakens her wolf soon."
While every born werewolf eventually discovers their wolf form, some experience the transformation earlier than others. Swara's situation, however, is distinct. Unaware of her hybrid identity, Sanskar refrains from disclosing the truth to her until he's absolutely certain of her heritage.
"Despite the certainty that she'll eventually embrace her wolf, I am determined to assist her in uncovering her true identity," Sanskar affirmed solemnly, his eyes focused on the horizon as he delved into his thoughts.
After a moment of contemplation, Dr. Khanna offered a suggestion. "I believe you should endeavor to place her in situations where her inner wolf may be provoked to react, even if only to show subtle signs of its presence."
Sanskar nodded resolutely and remarked, "Understood. But remember, Dr. Khanna, discretion is paramount. Should a word escape your lips, you'll face the consequences." His warning carried a stern edge.
"Rest assured, Alpha. My lips are sealed tighter than any vault," Dr. Khanna assured confidently before departing from Swara's ward, leaving Sanskar alone with her as she slowly regained consciousness.
"Aah...."
Sanskar was lost in a sea of contemplation when he was jolted back to reality by the soft, pained moan of Swara. Reacting swiftly, he reached out to gently grasp her hand and tenderly brushed his fingers against her bandaged forehead.
"Shona, I'm relieved to see you awake. How are you feeling?" Sanskar inquired, his voice filled with genuine concern.
"Oh, Sanskar, I'm so relieved to see you," Swara breathed out, a glimmer of warmth in her eyes as a faint smile graced her pale lips upon seeing her beloved.
"When I fell, I thought it was the end, and all I wanted was to see you one last time. I can hardly believe I'm still alive."
Swara continued to speak in a subdued voice, her words flowing one after another, while Sanskar shook his head in disbelief. He couldn't fathom how she still had the energy to jest while lying in the hospital bed, severely injured and narrowly saved from the clutches of death.
"Can you please stop giving me a heart attack, or do you need a punishment?" Sanskar scolded Swara, his eyes reflecting both worry and sternness.
Swara's lips twisted into a slight pout. "How can you scold me when I'm the one lying in a hospital bed?"
"You brought this upon yourself. Don't you realize this is the third time you've been hospitalized in the past few days? You make me worry sick when I'm not by your side," Sanskar scolded gently, his tone laced with concern.
Sanskar's frustration mounted as he witnessed the unsettling chain of events surrounding Swara whenever he was absent. The constant worry gnawed at him, and he detested it.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to cause you distress," Swara apologized, her lashes dipping as she felt remorseful for burdening Sanskar with her troubles.
"It's alright, but I can't have you pull such stunts in the future. Don't attempt things beyond your capabilities," Sanskar asserted, preparing to rise and fetch something for her to eat when she clasped his hand, halting him.
Swara's forehead creased with a frown as she absorbed Sanskar's words, feeling a surge of defiance. She was certain of her abilities; today's misstep was just an anomaly.
"Sanskar, don't underestimate me. I am capable of..."
Swara was poised to defend herself, but Sanskar cut her off abruptly, his patience wearing thin.
"You're still arguing? First, explain why you attempted this exercise without me," he demanded, gently retracting his hand from her grasp.
Swara admitted, "Kavita claimed I wasn't fit for the role of a powerful Luna you need, which provoked me into making a bet for a wall climbing exercise."
Sanskar gritted his teeth in frustration. "Are you incredibly naive or just plain foolish? How could you let Kavita manipulate you like this? And even during the competition, couldn't you prioritize your safety over a mere bet? Was winning more important to you than your own well-being?" he scolded with a hint of disappointment.
"Believe me, Sanskar, I was being cautious. It's just that I got momentarily distracted," Swara clarified, her tone tinged with protest as she felt wronged by Sanskar. "The news of your confrontation with the vampire king hit me at the peak of my climb, throwing me off balance and scattering my focus."
"Who on earth informed you about the battle with the vampire king?" Sanskar's brow furrowed with a mix of confusion and fury, his eyes narrowing in suspicion.
"Kavita spilled the beans," Swara confessed.
She proceeded to divulge the intricate details of her encounter with Kavita, from the unexpected entrance into the training room, the audacious claim of being her mate, to the shocking revelation of Sanskar's clash with the vampire king.
As anger coursed through Sanskar, his veins throbbed beneath his skin, yet he managed to restrain himself, not wanting to intimidate Swara.
He gently pressed his hand down, his voice calm but firm. "Let's put this behind us for now, but please be cautious going forward. You need some rest. Allow me to fetch you something to eat."
With controlled steps, Sanskar exited the room, his hand instinctively reaching for his phone as he struggled to contain his frustration.
"I can't believe that a wretched woman managed to survive after falling from such a height. She ought to have perished right then and there," Kavita ranted, pacing back and forth in her room, consumed by tension.
Unaware of Swara's current state and cut off from any sources of information due to Sanskar's blockade on news about Swara, Kavita continued to stew in her own frustrations.
After squirming for a moment, Kavita reached for her phone to dial Adarsh, but before she could, her phone lit up with an incoming call from him.
"Thank heavens you rang; I was just about to reach out regarding Swara..." Kavita rushed to express her concerns, but Adarsh promptly cut her off.
"Let's table the talk about Swara for now. I need your full attention on something else," he interjected.
Kavita felt the urgency in Adarsh's voice and rubbed her temples. It had become a recurring pattern: Adarsh stirring up trouble, leaving Kavita to untangle the mess.
"What's happened now?" she asked with a resigned tone.
"I tried to injure Sanskar during the battle, but Nikhil caught me. He threatened me, so I had to take him out. But now I've learned that Nikhil survived and is being treated at the pack hospital. Please, I need your help," Adarsh pleaded.
"What on earth were you thinking, Adarsh? How could you be so careless and mess everything up? I'm already knee-deep in chaos, and all you do is add to it..." Kavita's frustration bubbled over.
Adarsh's pleas for help only added fuel to Kavita's already disturbed state, leading her to lose her temper and lash out at him for the first time. This triggered Adarsh's anger, resulting in a heated argument between them.
