The Jig is Up

Sanskar and Swara stood side by side, enveloped in each other's embrace, when suddenly they both felt a sharp stab from behind.

"Ahh... Sanskar..." Swara screamed, pain searing through her.

"Shona, are you alright...? Ahh," Sanskar groaned, trying to hold her steady despite the excruciating pain coursing through his own body.

They both cried out, gasping to catch their breath and reeling from the pain as they turned to face their attacker. The sudden assault left them stumbling, their eyes wide with shock and disbelief at the sight of their assailant.

"Kavita?" Sanskar gasped. "So, you've finally shown your true colors."

Fury overwhelmed him as he saw Kavita wielding two gleaming daggers. He lurched forward, gripping her neck with a vice-like hold. As he choked her, she grimaced and thrust both daggers into his abdomen. Sanskar's growl of pain reverberated through the woods, blending with Swara's desperate scream.

Swara cradled Sanskar, who lay on the ground, blood oozing from his wounds. "Kavita," she whispered, struggling to speak through the pain. "Why... why did you... do this? Even after... I let you go?" Her voice hitched, each word a struggle.

"What a farce!" Kavita said with biting sarcasm. "When did you ever truly let me go?" Her voice dripped with venom as she locked eyes with Swara, hatred burning brightly. "You degraded me at every turn, reduced me to menial tasks, and humiliated me in front of everyone. Do you even comprehend why I endured it all? Because I was biding my time for this moment."

"Today, I claim my vengeance," she declared through a maniacal laugh, her eyes gleaming with craziness.

"Kavita, you treacherous coward. I should never have..." Swara's voice cracked with fury as she managed to rise to her feet, but her words were cut short as she was stabbed once more from behind.

Both Sanskar and Swara turned, their gazes meeting a new figure cloaked in black, their identity hidden behind a menacing mask, adding to the chaos of the moment.

"Who are you?" Sanskar thundered with all his might, his demand echoing through the tense air, yet Swara had already discerned the person behind the mask.

"You're better off in the dark," Kavita said with a triumphant smile. "Just accept your demise gracefully and spare yourself from unnecessary trouble. This doesn't concern you; meddling will only hasten your end." She sneered.

"It's Adarsh, isn't it?" Swara's uncertain statement left Sanskar visibly startled.

"What?"

"Who else but Adarsh could be Kavita's accomplice in such a heinous crime? He did this to seize power and become alpha, didn't he?" Swara's voice wavered with a mix of pain and fury.

The masked man and Kavita exchanged a brief, conspiratorial glance before their shameless laughter echoed through the tense air. With deliberate slowness, the man removed his mask.

"You guessed it, Swara. It's me," Adarsh admitted with a smirk, his tone mocking. "You've figured it out, but by now, it hardly matters."

"Adarsh, didn't I always say Swara plays the innocent? She's much smarter than she lets on," Kavita remarked with a wide grin, her hand resting confidently on Adarsh's shoulder.

Adarsh responded by pulling Kavita closer, his arm sliding around her waist. "True enough," he agreed, shooting a casual glance at Sanskar and Swara before focusing back on Kavita. "However, it's all academic now that they've walked into our trap." With a smirk, he leaned in and captured Kavita in a passionate kiss.

"You heartless traitor! How dare you attack your own brother?" Swara's voice thundered with fury, her eyes blazing with intense disdain as she witnessed their shamelessness.

Despite being stabbed and bleeding profusely, her own pain paled in comparison to the anguish she felt for Sanskar, who stood in a daze, tears streaming down his face as he grappled with his brother's betrayal.

"Brother, my foot..." Adarsh's words dripped with venomous resentment. "I was the older one, yet he was chosen as alpha just because he was born with those damn extraordinary powers. Was that fair to me? What did I lack? Look at him now; see how he'll meet his end with my hand." Adarsh finished with a disdainful spit, his eyes burning with malice.

"It's because you betrayed him," Swara protested.

"Why shouldn't I? Did he ever let go of me? He even stripped me of my position as beta. He doesn't deserve to be the alpha king. He deserves to meet this fate," Adarsh retorted, venom dripping from his words. "The once formidable alpha, betrayed by his own brother, now lies motionless before me." With a cruel laugh, Adarsh derided Sanskar's helpless state.

"Why would you do this?" Finally, Sanskar managed to voice his question, saving himself from the betrayal of his own brother.

Swara looked at Sanskar with sympathy, noticing tears welling in his eyes, yet Adarsh remained unmoved.

"Because I hate you," Adarsh admitted without hesitation. "I despise you for being invincible, for wielding unparalleled power and mastery over all elements. I loathe that you were born this way and took my place as alpha of the Crescent Moon. I couldn't bear why you, out of all of us, became the sole heir to the alpha king—not Dad, not me. Why you?"

"I've always aimed to eliminate you and reclaim what's rightfully mine. I waited for you to take down the vampire king because I couldn't do it myself. That's why I orchestrated everything—having Kavita by your side, planning for us to achieve our goal once Rajat was out of the way. But Swara ruined it all," Adarsh admitted shamelessly.

Kavita stepped forward, her voice laced with resentment. "Now you see why I harbor such hatred toward her?" She pointed accusingly at Swara. "She was the biggest stumbling block in our plan, far too cunning for her own good."

"That's correct..." Adarsh scoffed. "We've attempted numerous methods to eliminate her, but this thick-skinned woman seems to be blessed with unyielding luck." He roughly seized Swara's hair, causing her to wince in pain.

"Adarsh, let go of Swara," Sanskar growled fiercely.

"How could I? She's the reason we've suffered so much. Because of her, we've committed countless crimes. I even attempted to kill Nikhil for no reason, simply because he saw me trying to harm you during the battle."

"What? You did that to a member of our pack? How deep does your hatred for me run?" Sanskar's voice cracked, tears streaming down his face and mingling with the muddy ground.

"Yes, I did, and you can't even begin to grasp the magnitude of the resentment I've harbored toward you. It's endless," Adarsh declared with a sinister laugh.

"I can't believe... Ahh..." Sanskar's voice faltered as he closed his eyes in profound disappointment.

"Sanskar, don't let your emotions be wasted on a beast like him," Swara urged, her hand tightening on Sanskar's shoulder. "He and Kavita have orchestrated schemes beyond our worst fears. They didn't only eliminate the border guards and Sia; they also harmed Ragini, leaving behind mysterious symptoms designed to pressure you into hastening the battle against the vampires."

"You were aware of our secrets a little too well, weren't you?" Adarsh said, his frown deepening as he gripped Swara's chin tightly. "You kept us close for a reason, didn't you? All that forgiveness and kindness was just a facade to uncover our plans, right?"

"You're not completely clueless," Swara retorted mockingly, her voice strained but her gaze piercing into Adarsh's with fiery intensity.

"You wretched witch!" Adarsh couldn't tolerate the insult any longer, and he angrily slapped Swara, causing her to stumble and fall.

"Adarsh, you vile coward!" Sanskar roared, seizing Adarsh's collar. However, Adarsh violently jerked him aside, causing Sanskar to tumble and Swara to flinch in pain.

Once more, Adarsh grasped Swara's hair tightly in his fist. "You saw this coming, didn't you? That's why you tried to hold Sanskar back from advancing this battle. But fate cannot be altered. Both of you are destined to meet your end at our hands." He shouted defiantly.

Adarsh and Kavita locked eyes, then simultaneously withdrew their daggers and launched themselves at Sanskar and Swara. Their surprise was palpable when Sanskar and Swara swiftly rose to their feet with the agility of predators. Sanskar caught hold of Adarsh's wrist while Swara intercepted Kavita's, stopping their attack in its tracks.

"Who says fate can't be altered?" Sanskar challenged, wrenching Adarsh's hand and sending him stumbling backwards.

Swara twisted Kavita's wrist, eliciting a sharp cry of pain.

"Do you take me for a fool? Even with full knowledge of both your deceptions, did you think I would allow this to be our fate?" Swara declared defiantly, pushing Kavita so she fell beside Adarsh.
