Game of Wits

"Defeat me in any exercise here, and I'll acknowledge you as the ideal Luna for Sanskar. Otherwise, you must leave him of your own accord," Kavita proposed, presenting a wager as part of her new scheme to oust Swara from Sanskar's life.

"I'm prepared to take on any challenge, but when it comes to leaving Sanskar, I'm sorry, but I can't fulfill your cunning desires. Only Sanskar has the power to reject me," Swara rebuffed with unwavering confidence.

Kavita was left stunned by Swara's unexpectedly sharp response, realizing that Swara had already seen through her deceitful ploy. However, Kavita was determined not to let Swara remain by Sanskar's side.

"Don't beat around the bush. If you can't handle it, just say so. And for goodness' sake, stop this charade of training and giving Sanskar false hope in you. The reality is, you can't fulfill the role of Luna he requires by his side," Kavita said sharply, yanking off Swara's boxing gear and giving her shoulder a rough shove.

"You better don't underestimate me. I'll prove you wrong. Let's settle this with any exercise you choose. If I lose, I'll stop training here. But if you lose, you'll leave Sanskar alone." Swara confidently issued the challenge, her determination evident as she raised her eyebrows and declared.

Kavita found herself ensnared in her own trap, but she refused to dwell on her misstep. With a thoughtful nod, she said, "Alright, bring it on. Let's find out who can conquer the wall faster." Accepting the challenge, she already began crafting a fresh plan, realizing she couldn't back down from her own wager.

Noticing Kavita's calm demeanor, Swara wondered if there was a hidden agenda behind her swift agreement. 'She agreed readily. Is there a new angle she's considering?' She mused. With a measured tone, she proposed, "Alright then, let's call in a neutral referee to oversee the competition and ensure fairness."

Kavita seethed inwardly, 'Ugh, Swara's growing more astute by the minute, and it's starting to grate on my nerves. I wish I could wipe her off the face of the earth.' With irritation evident, she immediately countered, "Sanskar and his people are tied up today."

Undeterred, Swara suggested, "How about Mr. Ahuja? Let's enlist his assistance." She reached for her phone to dial Mr. Ahuja's number.

Kavita found herself forced to contend with Swara's behavior, her frustration mounting with each encounter. With few options left, she reluctantly acquiesced, "I suppose that's acceptable."

'Even with Mr. Ahuja in the picture, I have my own ways to deal with that bitch, Swara,' Kavita thought to herself with a steely resolve.

Within a mere 10 minutes, Mr. Ahuja appeared to oversee the competition to see who could scale the wall faster. During the interim, both women suited up in their safety gear and positioned themselves before the imposing structure, poised for the impending contest.

"Do you happen to know where Sanskar and his crew are occupied today?" Kavita murmured quietly, leaning in close to Swara's ear.

Swara, fully concentrated on winning the bet and surveying the towering wall ahead, furrowed her brow at Kavita's seemingly irrelevant chatter.

"I'm well aware. Sanskar informed me earlier; he's tied up with crucial foreign clients at the company all day," Swara replied confidently, drawing from the information Sanskar had shared with her.

Kavita scoffed mockingly, "Oh, Swara, you're far too trusting."

Though Swara appeared puzzled and frowned, she had no opportunity to contest as the referee's whistle sounded, prompting both competitors to spring into action and begin their ascent of the wall.

Swara exhibited remarkable vigor and speed, propelling herself ahead of Kavita. As she took a few rapid steps upward and paused to catch her breath, Kavita swiftly closed the gap, a smug expression creeping across her face as she observed Swara's progress from behind.

"Why would a mere business deal keep all the warriors of the Crescent Moon pack occupied? Didn't that strike you as odd?" Kavita murmured once more, her voice low.

Swara was slightly surprised by Kavita's astuteness for the first time, but she remained resolute not to be swayed by any of Kavita's cunning words.

"Kavita, can you stop beating around the bush?" Swara urged, picking up her pace and widening the gap between them.

"Fine, let me get straight to the point. The truth is, the Crescent Moon pack is under attack by the rogue king and his army. That's why Sanskar went to confront him. But the question is, Why did Sanskar lie to you?"

'I'm honestly surprised why Sanskar attempted to hide such a simple attack from a rogue. Perhaps he believed I'd be overly concerned,' Swara thought to herself, puzzled, before arriving at her own conclusion.

"He must have his reasons. I won't pass judgment," Swara countered Kavita's remarks, maintaining her focus on the climb.

Kavita laughed mockingly once more, persisting in her attempts to provoke Swara. "I can't believe you're so naive. He kept it from you because he didn't trust you."

Swara halted, pivoted to face Kavita, and shot her a contemptuous glance. "Nonsense and inconsequential," she retorted.

Turning back to the wall to continue her ascent, Swara heard Kavita's voice from behind. "It's the truth, whether you choose to accept it or not. How else would an alpha plunge into such a significant battle without Luna by his side? He clearly doesn't see you as a strong companion for himself."

"Kavita, I can't believe you look down on Sanskar. He's the most formidable alpha warrior in decades; he doesn't even rely on his army to deal with rogues, let alone need a powerful Luna by his side," Swara retorted with a laugh.

"Ahh, it seems like you knew nothing about reality," Kavita countered ironically, pausing in her climb. "This battle isn't against rogues, but with a vampire army backing them."

Swara was caught off guard by the new revelation, causing her to stumble on her path and nearly lose her footing. Fortunately, she managed to grasp a foothold just in time.

'Rogues attack with vampires backing them. This feels eerily familiar,' Swara thought to herself as flashes of her past life swirled before her eyes. Although Sanskar and his army emerged triumphant in that battle in her previous life, she remembered Nikhil's mysterious death following the conflict.

A fresh surge of tension flooded Swara's heart as she grappled with the desire to protect Nikhil while sensing that something was awry.

'Why is this battle happening now, three months ahead of schedule? Why such a drastic change in events in this lifetime?' Swara pondered with a desperate heart, her thoughts swirling with uncertainty and concern.

"Are you shocked?" Kavita taunted with an evil smirk, observing Swara's pale face. "The headline says it all: Vampire King Rajat Shah is leading his army."

Kavita interjected a fabricated detail with her startling revelation to unsettle Swara, and it succeeded. Swara was genuinely taken aback. 'A clash with Rajat Shah? It's not scheduled for another year. What's causing all this chaos?' she thought with dismay.

"Now, do you finally believe it? Sanskar doesn't see you as his supportive mate. I don't even know how he'll confront Rajat Shah without the necessary powers for such a critical battle," Kavita added, her concern appearing fake.

'Not just Nikhil, but Sanskar's life is in jeopardy, and I can't stand idly by. No, I have to find a way to save them,' Swara's thoughts raced in turmoil.

Desperate to protect her loved ones, Swara struggled to think of what to do while suspended high on the wall. Her vision blurred as she attempted to descend, but she lost her grip and plummeted. To make matters worse, her harness snapped upon impact, causing her to land on her head.

"Argh..." Sanskar's growl echoed loudly as he vanquished the leader of the vampire army, only to be struck by a sudden, sharp pain in his heart.

"Sanskar, are you alright?" Adarsh rushed to his side, feigning concern.

"I'm fine; focus on the enemy." Sanskar replied, his breath heavy with exertion.

Regaining his composure, Sanskar prepared to face the ongoing battle when suddenly he was shoved towards an oncoming vampire, poised to strike. Just as the enemy was about to deliver a fatal blow, Nikhil intervened, grasping Sanskar's hand and swiftly dispatching the assailant.

The battle concluded, and the Crescent Moon pack emerged victorious, making their way back to their dens to rest and tend to their wounds. As they approached the pack house, Nikhil gripped Adarsh's hand firmly.

"Beta, why did you shove the alpha? Were you trying to get him killed?" Nikhil demanded, his voice laced with fury.

Adarsh's mind flashed back to the chaos of the battlefield, recalling how he had propelled the exhausted Sanskar towards an oncoming enemy intent on delivering a fatal blow.

"What are you talking about?" Adarsh feigned innocence, his expression carefully composed.

"Don't play dumb with me. I saw your true intentions, and I'm going straight to the alpha." Nikhil's voice trembled with anger.

In a swift motion, Adarsh silenced Nikhil by covering his mouth from behind and dragging him to a deserted corner behind the house. With brutal force, Adarsh stabbed Nikhil and then slipped away unnoticed.

AUTHOR NOTE: I know I am going to get criticized for this chapter, as it always happens with me whenever I portray the villains and their tricks. I never seem to receive any praise for the good moments.
