Bite the Bullet

"Oh, what happened to Kavita?"

"She seemed perfectly fine a moment ago!"

"She was just talking to Luna, wasn't she?"

The murmurs of concern grew in the hall as people gathered around Kavita. Sanskar, with Adarsh and Laksh close behind, pushed through the crowd to reach her.

"What's going on with her?" Sanskar and Adarsh cried out together, dropping to their knees beside Kavita and trying to help her up, while Laksh quickly called Dr. Khanna. Swara, all the while, stood there, frozen in shock.

"She's been poisoned with wolfsbane. Although the dose is small, get her to the hospital right away to prevent any risk," Dr. Khanna concluded after examining Kavita.

'So this is her undeniable scheme. She even went to great lengths to injure herself just to get at me. What a manipulative and vile person,' Swara thought, seething with hatred.

"Poison, wolfsbane? Who did that? Who dares?" Adarsh yelled. His inner wolf was getting mad seeing his mate in pain, which became uncontrollable for Adarsh. Though his reaction was stronger than Sanskar's over Kavita, this struck Swara as odd for a moment, but she didn't have time to think deeply about it.

"It was Luna who handed Kavita the drink," one of the defiant girls spoke up.

"What nonsense!" Sanskar thundered, his eyes shooting daggers at the girls in anger.

The two girls shook with fear, but realizing this was their chance to expose Swara and rid themselves of her as their Luna, they stayed silent witnesses to the exchange between Swara and Kavita. They didn't need to invent tales; they had seen everything unfold firsthand.

With a nervous gulp, another girl mustered her courage and spoke out against Swara. "Yeah, Alpha, I saw it too. Luna passed a drink to Kavita. And she even had the nerve to say that since this is a Crescent Moon gathering, Kavita ain't got no business being here."

Sanskar's brow furrowed as he glanced at the girls, then he shot a skeptical look in Swara's direction, echoed by numerous others in the room. Before Swara could offer any explanation, senior and high-ranking members of the pack took the lead in questioning her.

"Luna, you can't do this to Kavita. Even though she's not one of us, we've been through so much together."

"You might be our Luna now, but Kavita has been by our side for years."

The unexpected turn of events left Swara reeling, and the accusations leveled against her struck a painful chord. Sanskar's silence in response to the others' remarks only added insult to her injury.

"She's the daughter of the Alpha of Night Shine, the second-largest pack. If something happens to Kavita, Alpha Roy won't take it lightly."

"Yes, that's a shame..."

Swara had reached her limit with their baseless accusations and pointless jabbering. "Retribution for what? This is utter nonsense! Why would I ever harm Kavita? I've never laid a finger on anyone." Swara was about to blow her top.

"Why'd you do this, Swara?" Adarsh cut in, stopping her mid-sentence.

"Save it for later. Focus on getting her to the hospital first," Sanskar ordered sternly, attempting to quell the agitated crowd.

He moved to lift the unconscious Kavita, but before he could, Adarsh forcefully grabbed his hand, swiftly scooped up Kavita, and bolted out of the room.

Sanskar was about to follow, but Swara clasped his hand, her eyes pleading. "Sanskar, please, you have to believe me. I swear, I didn't do anything."

"Let's discuss this later," Sanskar replied coolly, removing his hand from Swara's grip.

Swara tightened her hold on his arm, stopping him in his tracks. "Do you doubt me too?" she asked, searching his indifferent expression for any sign of belief.

"I said later," Sanskar said dismissively, not bothering to meet her gaze as he pulled away and walked off, leaving Swara's last shred of hope shattered and tears welling in her eyes.

"It looks like even the Alpha has doubts about the Luna."

"Hmm, yeah, but Luna shouldn't have let her anger get the best of her, especially considering Kavita's history with Alpha Sanskar."

"Her actions could spell disaster for Crescent Moon. Two once-friendly packs could end up at odds."

As the gossiping among the members of Crescent Moon grew louder, Swara couldn't help but feel an unjustified sense of guilt creeping over her.

"Cut it out, everyone! Luna didn't do a thing," Sia intervened on Swara's behalf.

Amidst the turmoil, she was the sole individual to step forward and offer Swara reassurance. "Luna, don't worry. I know you're innocent. I saw everything when Kavita handed you two glasses and asked for one. You had both glasses in your hands—how could you have tampered with the drink?" she exclaimed loudly, making sure everyone heard the truth.

"How did Kavita end up taking wolfsbane?"

"Think she poisoned herself?"

The two girls persisted with their hostile questioning, but Sia shut them down. "I don't have the answers. Why don't you ask Kavita when she wakes up?"

Turning to Swara, Sia squeezed her hand reassuringly. "Luna, don't let their accusations get to you. Just confide in the Alpha and explain the truth. He might be worried, but he won't blame you."

Swara tapped on Sia's hand in gratitude before darting out to find Sanskar's Rolls Royce, with the chauffeur waiting. The ride to the hospital was swift, but the scene that awaited Swara there was far more dramatic than she had anticipated.

Outside the emergency room, apart from Sanskar, Kavita's parents and Adarsh were also there, not just pacing back and forth in the corridor but creating a scene every few minutes. They cursed the perpetrator in disparaging language, demanding justice from Sanskar and insisting that he take responsibility.

"What are they pinning on Sanskar?" Swara muttered as she stood at the end of the corridor, observing the unfolding drama. 'What kind of parents are they? Instead of worrying about their daughter in the emergency room, they're more focused on stirring up trouble,' she thought, displeased.

"And why is Sanskar letting them walk all over him?" Swara clenched her fists in frustration, unable to stomach Sanskar's passive response.

"Why does all his tough talk vanish now? I'll have to tackle this new problem for Sanskar and clear my name," Swara murmured to herself as she made her way towards Sanskar.

"Who gave you the nerve to show up here? Don't you have any decency?" Adarsh was the first to spot Swara and unleash his anger.

Kavita's parents were preoccupied with demanding answers from Sanskar when Adarsh's sudden outburst caught their attention. They all turned towards the source of the commotion, and Sanskar couldn't help but scowl, thinking, 'She's really asking for trouble by coming here.'

Swara glanced at the displeased expressions around her, including Sanskar's frown, and her gaze lingered on Adarsh's distressed face. 'Why is he so agitated about Kavita's health, as if he's the one suffering?'

"You shouldn't be here; just leave," Sanskar commanded, standing in front of Swara with a stern expression.

"Sanskar, please, just hear me out," Swara snapped, losing her composure at Sanskar's lack of trust.

"Who is she?" Mrs. Roy, Kavita's mother, inquired.

"Is that Swara Bose? Your mate?" Kavita's father looked at Sanskar with raised eyebrows and a stern face.

"Yes, I am..."

"Swara, turn around..."

"Slap...." A sharp sound reverberated as Mr. Roy's hand connected with Swara's cheek, stunning everyone who witnessed it.

Sanskar was immediately positioned in front of Swara, but Mr. Roy pushed him harshly and held Swara's collar. "So you are the one who poisoned my daughter, you vile-hearted witch."

"What nonsense, I..." Swara jerked his hand from her collar to protest, but was cut off by him.

"Alpha Sanskar, we need justice; she always used to hate Kavita and did many things to harm her. I want this vicious witch to be punished."

"Even after becoming Alpha Sanskar's mate, why didn't you let my daughter off?" Mrs. Roy screamed.

"You're nothing but a ruthless killer. Alpha Sanskar, out of respect for you, I'm refraining from taking matters into my own hands and leaving them to you. You must make the decision."

Mr. and Mrs. Roy continued to cause a scene, hurling curses at Swara. Meanwhile, Adarsh, despite feeling pain at seeing his mate suffer, couldn't help but feel a sense of satisfaction. He knew Kavita had schemed against Swara countless times, and when all else failed, she used this situation to fuel the fire that would consume Swara.

"Alpha Sanskar, I understand your anguish for your daughter, but you cannot accuse the Luna of Crescent Moon without solid evidence. Do not test my limits," Sanskar stated firmly, his tone cold and decisive.

Finally, his frosty demeanor and royal authority made Kavita's parents and even Adarsh quiver.

"Kavita was poisoned within my territory, and I take full responsibility for the incident. You seek justice, but all I can offer is a heartfelt apology," Sanskar declared, sinking to his knees.
