Against All Odds
Hiding behind a car adjacent to Sanskar's vehicle, Kavita surreptitiously listened to Sanskar's conversation with Ayush, her annoyance evident as Ayush offered his assistance in finding Swara. Clenching her fist in irritation, she muttered to herself, "Why does Alpha Ayush always have to meddle in other people's affairs? Well, I'll just have to proceed with the backup plan."
Observing Sanskar and Ayush as they got into Sanskar's car and drove away, Kavita emerged from her hiding spot behind another vehicle. With a sense of urgency, she dialed Adarsh's number. "Sanskar has once again sought Alpha Ayush's help. If this plan fails, we'll need to resort to the backup plan," she conveyed anxiously over the phone.
"Hmm, don't fret. I've got it under control," Adarsh assured before ending the call.
"Shona!" Sanskar's voice echoed with panic as he noticed Swara's struggles had ceased.
The commotion drew a crowd to the front of the storage room, where Swara hung limp and lifeless, striking fear into the hearts of onlookers.
Sanskar dashed forward, seizing her legs with one hand and the rope with the other. With a surge of determination, he pulled with all his might, snapping the rope and bringing Swara crashing down. Just then, Laksh and Adarsh pushed their way through the crowd to join them, witnessing Sanskar's anguish firsthand.
"Shona, can you hear me?" He shouted anxiously, gently tapping her cheek.
With a pounding heart, Sanskar checked Swara's pulse and breath. Though weak, they gave him a flicker of hope for Swara's survival.
"Sanskar, we need to get her to the hospital now," Laksh urged.
Sanskar scooped up Swara's unconscious form and dashed out, with Ayush, Laksh, and Adarsh close behind. However, after a few strides, Adarsh paused and mingled with the crowd, pretending to be just another bystander.
"Despite the mistreatment Miss Bose endured, resorting to suicide is never the solution," Adarsh remarked in a casual tone.
"I agree. Miss Bose should never have considered such a drastic measure," another person chimed in.
"She must have felt deeply hurt to contemplate something so extreme," someone else added.
"Regardless, she should value her life and not succumb to despair." Another voice joined the conversation.
"We can only hope she'll pull through," another person said with a sigh.
"I feel truly sorry for her," someone murmured softly.
"Poor Miss Bose. My heart goes out to her," another individual expressed sympathetically.
The subdued buzz of gossip reverberated through the corridor, bringing a sense of satisfaction to Adarsh. Having successfully sparked the flames of rumor, Adarsh trailed after Sanskar and the others to the hospital, fulfilling his duty as a loyal beta and standing by his alpha's side during challenging times.
The false tale of Swara's mistreatment and subsequent suicide spread like wildfire, spreading not only throughout the office but also permeating the supernatural community. Eventually, the rumor reached the hospital where Swara was receiving treatment, and she became known as the "suicide patient."
The news startled Ayush and Laksh, but Sanskar remained unaffected, consumed by his own anguish at the prospect of losing his mate.
"That's utter nonsense. I refuse to accept that Swara would even consider suicide. She's confronted challenges and endured bullying in the past, but she's always shown resilience," Laksh stated firmly, his confidence unwavering.
"Perhaps it was the stigma of being labeled a mistress that pushed her over the edge. I can't fathom the depth of despair she must have felt to resort to such drastic measures," Adarsh speculated, subtly steering the conversation away from exploring other possibilities.
"Regardless of Miss Bose's personal experiences, suicide seems unlikely. The door was locked from the outside when Alpha Sanskar and I forced our way in," Ayush reasoned, injecting a dose of logic into the conversation.
"Maybe someone inadvertently locked it, given the sensitive nature of the data stored in the room," Adarsh suggested, irritation bubbling beneath the surface as Ayush's interference threatened to derail his plans once again.
"That's highly unlikely. Miss Bose was clearly struggling when we discovered her, and..."
Ayush's words trailed off as a doctor emerged from the emergency room, prompting them all to gather around him.
"How's Swara, Doctor?" Sanskar pressed with concern.
"The patient is stable. She fainted due to extreme trauma, but she should regain consciousness within a couple of hours. However, the force exerted on her neck has caused damage to her vocal cords. She may experience difficulty speaking for a few days, but with the appropriate medication, her voice should recover," the doctor replied.
Although Sanskar was shocked by the severity of Swara's trauma, he managed to gather himself upon hearing that she was out of immediate danger.
"Laksh, go through the discharge process. Swara is coming home with me," Sanskar directed firmly.
"But Swara should rest here for a while longer," Laksh protested.
"She'll rest better at home. Just do as I say," Sanskar insisted, his tone firm, before heading towards Swara's room.
"Alpha Sanskar, I strongly advise against rushing things. Miss Bose should remain under observation for some time," Ayush cautioned from behind.
Turning to face Ayush, Sanskar placed a hand on his shoulder and spoke politely, "Thank you, Alpha Ayush. I appreciate your concern, but Swara will be safest at my villa."
Sanskar's tone and words left no room for debate, making it clear to everyone that he wouldn't entertain any further advice on the matter. Adarsh, however, felt a pang of fear deep within.
'Is Sanskar onto something, or has he already convinced himself that Swara attempted suicide? What's going on in this shrewd bastard's head?' Adarsh seethed with annoyance, stepping aside to dial Kavita's number.
"The situation is quite messed up. I told you not to involve your omegas in this," Adarsh scolded Kavita, though he refrained from yelling to avoid drawing attention.
"At least they're reliable. Using outsiders would have risked exposure under Sanskar's scrutiny," Kavita argued in defense.
Kavita's reasoning struck a chord with Adarsh, leaving him with little room for further argument.
"Fine, then find a way to clear this up with Sanskar," Adarsh instructed before ending the call.
Sanskar transported Swara to his villa, tenderly arranging her on the bed in his master bedroom. He settled beside her, cradling her cold hand in his warm palms.
"You silly girl, when will you realize you need to stand up for yourself and not let others dictate your worth?" He murmured to Swara's unconscious form.
Tears brimmed in his eyes as he noticed the red bruise on her delicate neck. A surge of fury replaced his sadness, compelling him to rise and seek out Swara's assailant for retribution.
He summoned the elderly butler of the villa, instructing him to attend to Swara personally and notify him immediately upon her awakening. Afterward, he strode out while placing a call to Laksh.
"Round up those bitches who harmed Swara and bring them to my villa. Did you get it?"
"But Sanskar, they're part of the Night Shine pack. We can't simply snatch them away for Swara's sake, especially when she holds no significant status yet," Laksh countered.
Despite knowing it was futile, Laksh attempted to reason with Sanskar, as this action was tantamount to a declaration of war.
"I don't care. I need them in front of me in the next 30 minutes," Sanskar yelled while striding, but stopped abruptly when he heard a commotion in front of the villa's grand entrance.
"What's going on?" he muttered, surprised yet puzzled. He ended the call and stepped outside, only to be met with a surprising sight.
In front of him, several guards dressed in black were restraining three of Kavita's omegas. Kavita herself stood before them, delivering a forceful slap to Kavya.
"How could you slander Swara for no reason and create a commotion in the company?" Kavita scolded them sternly.
"Kavita, we acted with your best interests in mind," Kavya reiterated.
"Yes, Kavita, that bitch made a move on your boyfriend, and we couldn't let it slide," Tanya chimed in, earning herself a swift slap from Kavita.
"Enough! Don't drag me into your vile schemes. Swara was branded as a mistress in front of the entire company because of your actions, leading her to attempt suicide," Kavita shouted, her voice echoing with fury.
"We didn't mean any harm, Kavita; please forgive us," Kavya begged, with folded hands kneeling on the ground.
"Don't beg me; save your apologies for Swara when she wakes up. Until then, you'll stay right here on your knees," Kavita commanded, motioning to the guards, who promptly forced the other two women down to the ground.
"Enough of this nonsense," Sanskar's authoritative voice resounded behind Kavita, prompting a sly grin to spread across her lips.
'I knew Sanskar wouldn't let this slide,' Kavita thought, stealing a glance over her left shoulder to catch sight of his looming silhouette.
