Mind Goblin
(Yeah, that's the title)
『Hey... do you hear me?』 heard Steve in his sleep. It was a calm voice, like one of a kid. For some reason it felt familiar.
「Who's there?」answered Steve starting to open his eyes. He saw nothing. It was so dark that even if he opened his eyes it felt as if they were closed.
『Oh, you finally hear me』said the familiar voice ignoring Steve's question.
『Who are you?』asked Steve moving his arms to touch a wall or the floor, but he was floating in the middle of a lake of nothingness.
『I'm someone you killed, someone who you took his privilege of living from, and someone you should be thankful to』answered the voice. When the voice said that, Steve tasted something sweet on the first two parts, then something bitter on the last one.
「What does he mean by that?」thought Steve. He didn't know why but that place started feeling comfortable, as if he were inside of a pillow, but not being able to touch it.
『You don't need to know』said the voice, answering to Steve's thoughts.
「Wait, you can hear my thoughts?」said Steve questioning the familiar voice.
『I know everything about you』answered the voice.
「How!?」shouted Steve confused. He didn't know why, but he was feeling a bitter taste.
『Because I'm...』said the voice as it faded away. Light started entering Steve's eyes as he opened them, watching his friends and Celta standing up and grabbing their weapons, getting ready for battle.
He felt how his hands were grabbing his sword tightly. He wondered about what had just happened, who the voice was, and why that place felt so comfortable.
"I got hit with a 'Because I'm...'. What was he gonna say? I'm you? Or, I'm your father?", wondered Steve trying to avoid thinking about what had just happened. The bitter taste had dissapeared from his mouth and he was now standing up and undoing the pillows and blankets.
"Kid, good thing that you woke up. I thought you were back again in your sleepwalking", said Celta, the old woman, with a caring tone. Steve wondered about when did she started caring so much about him, because when they first met, she treated him very badly. She started caring for him before he told her he was Kapanelle's son.
"Don't worry, I'm fine", replied Steve stretching his body. "Are we going in?"
"It depends. Do you kids want to eat first or kill the monster and then eat it?", she asked while unsheathing her sword.
"You answered yourself", answered the three boys pointing at her unsheathed sword.
"Well, there's not much to say", she said while she made her book float, watching the thousands stripes the book had. She clenched her fist around the grip of her sword and kicked the door, breaking it in half.
"Now that I think of it, this is the first time I'll see Celta fighting", thought Steve while following everyone.
They all got inside the new room, which to their surprise, was empty. It was an enormous dome with torches laying around on the walls.
"Don't get too confident", said the old woman. "If you don't see an enemy on your surroundings, always check above". As she said that, a bunch of rocks fell from above, but due to her warning, everyone was able to dodge them.
They looked up to the ceiling and saw how a giant goblin was slowly approaching the ground with tiny stones swirling around him.
It was reaching the ground, and when that happened, Steve rushed to where the goblin was shouting that he would attack during the cutscene, but Celta screamed that he had to stop, thing that Steve didn't obey to. Steve was less than five meters away from the goblin, but he saw to the side, where a small rock was approaching his head at a high speed.
He closed his eyes and tried to block the rock, but some cold hands grabbed him and took him out of the way. When he opened his eyes, he saw everyone next to him, and Celta was holding his body.
"Never take your eyes out of your enemy nor his attacks", she said.
"H-how?", asked Steve not understanding how she was so fast.
"I'm faster than The Lightning", she confidently said as she released Steve and rushed to where the goblin was.
Steve watched her in admiration, but he also saw that in front of her was the giant goblin. He was seeing it more clearly now, the goblin had a small body, but it had an ENORMOUS head, like if it were a giant egg upside-down.
Steve laughed and between breaths he told his friends: "That's a mind goblin".
"What's a mind goblin?", asked Takobu making Steve laugh more.
"I-it's... a goblin with a huge head", he answered while trying to breath normally.
"Oh, ok", replied Tako.
Steve managed to calm himself and tightened his hands around the grip of his sword, getting ready to attack again, but Yoro held his shoulder shaking his head.
"Why not?", asked Steve.
"Mom said that she would fight each boss", he replied.
Steve wanted to object, but he held himself, watching how she was more than enough to fight the huge headed goblin, so he just limited himself to see Celta fighting.
Celta was doing well, evading each rock that the goblin threw at her. It seemed that the goblin used some type of telekinesis. Each time Celta was about to hit the goblin, it fled outside the range of her sword.
It continued like that for some minutes, but something was off. Steve didn't know what, but he kept looking attentively, enhancing his eyes with aura.
He observed everything in detail, and saw the problem. The goblin was increasing the size of the stones after launching ten. The goblin was already firing rocks the size of a goblin... and now they were almost about his size.
"IT'S ADAPTING!", Warned Steve, but it was too late, the goblin was now able to move Celta at will. It threw her against Steve and the Kobu brothers, who catched her mid air.
The goblin made some weird growls and threw a boulder bigger than Celta towards everyone, and they dodged it, separating Celta's family from steve who went on opposite directions, but it threw more and more, making the distance between them longer and longer.
"Think of something", thought Steve while dodging the boulders that got bigger as time flew. "I need a long range attack".
"That's it!", he shouted. "I'll distract him. Attack when you can!". Then he remembered the time he was dead, when he launched red aura balls at high speeds. He tried to pull it off, but only a bunch appeared. He wondered why the normal amount didn't appear, but he had to stop thinking to dodge another boulder.
That's when he realized that he had started over. All the time he spent with Aria only taught him what he had to do to improve when he regained life, not to start with something. He noticed just now because he had never needed to use that much in such a short amount of time when he was alive. He had to stop thinking again dodge some bigger boulders.
"F this. I'll do what I can!", he thought determined and pointing with his finger to the goblin, he started creating and launching aura balls. He was able to create around twenty, which he threw to the goblin while dodging and creating more to launch them again.
By each round, it was more difficult to dodge due to how big they were getting, so he undid two aura balls to enhance his feet, which allowed him to be faster.
He followed the border of the dome until he met the others, who were running in the opposite direction. Takobu was riding his mom's shoulders so he could concentrate on launching magic.
"STOP FIRING, I'M TRYING TO NOT LET HIM SEE YOU", screamed Steve as they got separated again.
Then Steve had an idea. He undid three balls now and made a thin wall with a handle on one side, the same color of the rocky dome they were in, big enough to cover the three of them.
"Tako! Cover the three of you with this!", he said as he undid another ball to enhance his right arm, which was holding the tool he had created, and threw it at them while thinking that it would have never reached them if he had sent it floating.
"Ok!", Tako replied, and did as Steve said. The goblin looked to where Celta and her kids were, but it saw the wall Steve had created. It roared thinking that they had escaped and started firing more than five boulders at Steve.
Steve jumped as high as he could and made a platform which he rotated to impulse him forward, but the goblin kept firing.
Steve was getting tired, so resolved that he would only leave one two balls floating to create platforms for his feet when he jumped, using all the rest to enhance his body in each muscle he needed, either it was a hand or a leg.
He kept dodging, but his body couldn't keep up, so he misplaced a platform and fell to the ground with all the boulders approaching him at high speeds.
