The sound of footsteps grew louder and more frequent as Kaida kept looking at the bushes and trees, anticipating the moment when something would jump out of them. While she waited for whatever creature was trying to sneak up on her, her body started to shake more and more with each passing second. Noticing this, Umbra spread out his wings to form a buffer for Kaida's safety and started to growl, trying to intimidate his unknown foe.
'What did I do to deserve this?' She thought nervously as one of her feet lost its footing on the grass and almost made Kaida fall back into the lake. Thankfully, she managed to regain footing as her train of thought slipped away, allowing her to regain focus on something else. 'What can I do?' She frantically thought as another screen appeared in front of her.

'What in the world do those do?' She screamed internally before the screen disappeared.
All of the sudden, a wolf jumped out of the bushes and leaped toward Umbra, only for Umbra to dove under it and scratched its underbelly. Yelping in pain the wolf landed on the ground before it turned around barked at Umbra, who just growled in return. Staring at each other, Umbra and the wolf charged at each other before Umbra flew above it and slapped the wolf to the ground with his tail. Now that the wolf was on the ground, Umbra landed on it and bit into its neck before tearing out a chunk of its flesh out.
"Oh my god!" Kaida shrieked in fear as blood splattered all over Umbra's scales and the grass. While Umbra killed the wolf, Kaida took this chance to run away from the lake and toward the forest. Unfortunately, when she got near the forest, another wolf jumped out and pinned her to the ground. "Help!" She shouted instinctively, and responding to her shout, Umbra jumped away from the corpse of the dead wolf he was on and crashed into the wolf that was on top of Kaida. "Thanks!" She shouted to Umbra as she got off of the ground. As soon as she did that, she saw a screen appear in front of her face.
You have acquired a new skill by grappling with a Timber Wolf.
Skill Acquired: Unarmed Combat Level 1/10.
When the screen had disappeared, more wolves had come out of the forest while Umbra killed another one by tearing apart its neck. Looking at the wolves, Kaida just stared at them in fear as they slowly prowled around her and edged closer.
'They are eight wolves! What do I do? What can I even do?' Kaida asked herself as Umbra disappeared from sight and yet another screen appeared in her face.
You have gained a new skill by analyzing your situation.
Skill Acquired: Observe Level 1/10.
Once the screen disappeared, a wolf leaped toward Kaida, but this time, she panicked and ran away from the wolf, only to bump into another one. Turning around, Kaida closed her eyes and punched the wolf, barely hurting it.
Then two of the other wolves tried to pounce on her, but Kaida opened her eyes and took a deep breath as she dodged both of them and pinned one of them to the ground, allowing her to start punching it repetitively. While she did that, Umbra took the liberty of finishing off the first wolf she had punched, dropping the pack of eight wolves to only seven wolves. But as Kaida continued to punch a wolf, the wolf that had missed its leap crashed into her while the others continued to circle her.
The wolves continued to circle Kaida as if it was improper for all of them to attack or they were trying to be cautious. Watching them, Kaida saw the two wolves that tried to attack her start circling again before two screens appeared in front of her.
Timber Wolf (x6) Level 8
Hunter Level 8
Species: Timber Wolf or Gray Wolf
Tamer: None
Titles: None
Timber Wolf Alpha Level 16
Hunter Level 16
Species: Timber Wolf or Gray Wolf
Tamer: None
Titles: Leader of the Pack
'That must be the Observe skill.' Thought Kaida as the screens disappeared once she was finished reading both of them. Noting their 'Hunter' class, Kaida tried to stay calm and think of a strategy. Then, she spotted Umbra hiding in the shadows of trees as he opened his mouth and a small light started to gather in it.
All of the sudden, Umbra literally spit out a fireball that hit one of the wolves, knocking them out of the circle. Taking this chance, Kaida clasped her hands together and hit the wolf on its skull repetitively, hurting her hands but another screen started to appear, telling her that the wolf was slowly losing consciousness.
While she beat up one of the wolves, Umbra spat out more fireballs and drew the attention of three wolves to himself. And by the time Kaida and rendered one wolf unconscious, Umbra and killed three wolves on his own using mainly his teeth and fireballs. With only three wolves left conscious, Umbra went within the circle of wolves to protect Kaida.
"U-Umbra, can you kill them all?" Kaida asked nervously as she got a yip and a nod in return. Then, yet another screen appeared in front of her, but this one was different.
New Quest!
Tame the Timber Wolf Alpha!
Time Limit: 1 hour
Reward: Instant Level Up
Quickly processing what she had just read, Kaida looked at Umbra and pointed at the biggest wolf of the three left. "Umbra, k-keep that one a-alive, okay?" She asked him, getting a nod in return again.
With nothing else appearing out of the blue, Umbra spat a fireball at one of the two wolves he could kill as the other one of the two tried to pounce him. As for the alpha, it stared down Kaida and bared its teeth at her.
Bringing up her fists, Kaida tried to calm herself down but the quest put pressure on her and she knew there was a level difference of 8 between them. Since Umbra was level 25 and easily took care of level 8 wolves, she could only guess that she'd struggle with subduing the wolf. But nonetheless, she was extremely scared of the wolf even if she knew that Umbra would help her.
Seeing its brethren being beaten to death, the alpha pounced on Kaida, pinning her to the ground with barely any resistance. With Kaida pinned down, the wolf tried to bite her but she used her hands to hold its neck back so it only got slobber on her face.
"Umbra!" She shouted in panic before Umbra crashed into the wolf and pinned it to the ground. While he was on top of the alpha wolf, he spat a fireball at the wolf he was fighting, defeating all of the wolves except for the alpha.
Walking over to the alpha wolf, Kaida squatted down and tried to figure out how to tame the wolf. Since she was focusing on the wolf, her Observe skill activated as she saw a slowly draining health bar.
Once she saw the Observe skill put to work, she thought of her other skills and a list of her equipped Active Skills appeared. Then she focused on the Tame skill that was listed, causing two screens to appear. One of the screens was a description and the other was asking her if she wanted to use the skill.
"Yes," she mumbled as all of the screens in front of her disappeared and were replaced with a confirmation screen instead.
Are you sure you want to attempt to tame the Timber Wolf Alpha?
65% chance to successfully tame.
Accept or Cancel?
"Accept," she mumbled once more before a mark on both of her hands appeared. On her right hand, the mark of a shining sun appeared and glowed a heavenly yellow. While on her left hand, the mark of a crescent moon appeared and it glowed an ominous purple. Then, both of those glowing lights around the marks extend to surround a different part of the Alpha wolf. But as the yellow glow grew to cover the wolf, the purple color was rejected and moved to surround Umbra instead.
Taming complete.
Umbra registered as Lunar Child
Timber Wolf Alpha registered as Solar Child
Would you like to name your Timber Wolf Alpha?
Watching the glow recede, Kaida started to think of a name but came up with only a few ideas and all of those ideas related to Timber or the color Grey. "I'll just call you, Silver." She concluded as Umbra got off of the newly named Silver and went off to kill the wolf that Kaida had knocked out earlier. "Ew... this place is all bloody." She whined as Silver got up from the ground shakily.
Looking around, Kaida could barely stand to look at the bloody clearing and looked at her two tamed beasts before more screens appeared in front of her. The first few were just quests and leveling notifications while she paid attention to the others.
Your two tamed beasts have been added to your party.
'There's a party system too?' Kaida thought, expecting another screen to appear, and this time, a party screen appeared.

Mana 100%
Umbra Level 25

Mana 82%
Silver Level 18

'How? Why? Why is this all like a game?' Kaida thought as she fell backward from her squatting position and into a laying down position. Laying on the grass, she stared at the sky with no more screens in front of her. "Why did all of this happen?" She mumbled as Umbra walked over to here and crawled up to her side while Silver sat down watching this mess unfold. "I was just getting ice cream with Yuma. Then... I died and all of this happened."
Watching Kaida's self-evaluation, Silver was tempted to leave her then and there. Honestly, the only thing left for Silver at this point would be his territory. Though that would probably be taken away by one of the larger packs.
As for Umbra, he was completely clueless. One moment, his tamer is relaxing by the lake then he gets a good workout killing wolves and now Kaida is speaking nonsense.
"I hate this," she continued to mumble, "but I don't even know if I can go back home." Sitting up, Kaida looked to her side and pet Umbra softly, though it seemed to be an instinctual reaction to her sadness rather than a conscious choice. "I guess I'll see what I can do here. It might even be fun," Kaida mumbled as she stopped petting Umbra and stood up.
Brushing some of the grass off of her dress, Kaida looked at Silver and Umbra, both of them waiting for her to do something. Before anything else, she opened up the map she had earlier, but this time, a large black outline of an odd shape was now on the map. Looking toward a key for the map near the corner of the screen, she learned it was apparently her territory.
Ignoring that, she zoomed in on the map and looked for any hint of a trail and found what seemed to be a dirt path near the edge of her visible range. "Do you two mind washing that blood off?" Kaida asked uncomfortably as she wanted to leave the bloodied clearing as soon as possible.
Complying with her orders, Umbra jumped into the lake and swam around a little while as most of the blood on his scales washed off. Seeing some blood stuck to his scales, Kaida sat down at the water's edge and motioned over Umbra so she could wipe the last splotches of blood off.
Once she had finished washing off Umbra, she realized Silver was still sitting down off to the side and only watching her. "You too, Silver." She said, motioning him to come closer, but he didn't even get up from his spot. "I don't want to see blood all day, so please, come over here and let me wash your fur." She pleaded as Silver got up and walked over to her without even hesitation or resistance.

Ignoring the screen, Kaida pulled Silver into the shallow waters of the lake and washed his fur thoroughly, making sure to get rid of the smell of dried blood while she could. Finishing up, she petted Silver and combed his fur with her hand, making it less messy.
With all of that done, she wiped off some of the water on her feet and legs before starting to walk through the forest with Umbra directly to her right and Silver following behind. For some reason, the animals in the forest seemed more curious about Kaida as she walked past them instead of being scared and running away. It was just another thing that Kaida had ignored though.
After a few minutes of walking, Kaida found the small dirt path that was on her map and started to follow it as she went southward. But now, all the animals in the forest held back their curiosity in favor of remaining in the forest.
A half hour of traveling later, Kaida could finally see something eye-catching. She could see walls and a gate in the distance. 'Is that a town?' She wondered as she started to quicken her pace as more details started to stick out to her. "Let's hurry!" She yelled out to Umbra and Silver as she started to run down the path, ignoring the pain it had brought to her feet, especially since she was barefoot.
Coming up to the gates of the village, Kaida was grabbed by one of the two men at the gate, both of them in full metal armor, making them appear as knights with swords sheathed at their hips. "Halt. State your name, job, and reason for being here." One of the knights ordered with their hand on the handle of their blade.
Backing away from the two knights, Kaida started to grow nervous but complied with their orders nonetheless. "I'm Kaida Mytheria and I'm a..." For a moment, Kaida thought about what to say to the knights and thought about her stat page, making it appear in front of her.
Before she could tell them what was on the screen, the knight literally turned the holographic screen around to look at it. "Kaida Mytheria, a beast tamer with no loyalty toward any group." He reported to the other knight who nodded as their partner continued. "She has two beasts: a phantom dragon and a timber wolf alpha." The knight with the screen had finished reading at that point and looked at Kaida once he closed the screen. "Now, any reason for being here?"
"Um... I'm looking for a place to stay and a way to get some money." She nervously answered as the knights looked at each other.
Whispering to each other, the knights backed away from Kaida to make sure she couldn't hear her. "She's a beast tamer, what should we do?"
"Maybe we can get her to work for us?"
"No. If she gets stronger, she'll be a one-woman army and she'd kill us without even lifting a finger."
"Then maybe we can just turn her send her to the Adventurer's Tavern and then she'll work for the country."
"Well, we can't leave our post, how are we going to get her there?"
"Aren't there two adventurers in town?"
"Yeah, I'll go get them. You stay here with the girl."
One of the knights left the gate while the other was left with Kaida and her two beasts. Honestly, it was quite an awkward five minutes of silence between the two before the other knight came back with two men.
The taller one had brown hair and green eyes, but he wore some simple leather armor along with a battleax on their back. The slightly shorter one had blonde hair and green eyes while he wore nearly identical leather armor but with two knives sheathed on the back on his hip.
"You're the beast tamer?" The brunette one asked, getting a hesitant nod from Kaida in response. "Well, I'm Zack and I'm a warrior."
"I'm Zeke and I'm training to be an assassin." The blonde man introduced as smiled and had his hands on his hips, clearly trying to impress Kaida.
"I'm Kaida," she replied before pointing to Umbra and Silver. "This dragon is Umbra and that wolf is Silver."
Instantly, Zeke crouched down near Umbra and admired the black dragon in awe while Zach looked around before his eyes landed on Kaida. "Kaida, me and my brother will get you some food and a place to stay for the night. After that, we have to kill one more pack of wolves in the area before we can take you back to the Capital and let you sign up to be an adventurer."
Processing what Zach had just said, Kaida looked carefully at the man and her nervousness just grew even more. "An adventurer?"
"Adventurers help out the country and since you're a beast tamer, the best job you can have is become a beast tamer or start a pet shop." Answered Zach as Umbra made his way around Kaida, trying to protect her. "Don't worry though, you can work with us until you are strong enough to take on quests on your own."
"W-Wait, do I have to become an adventurer?" Kaida asked worriedly, remembering all the dangerous adventures that an adventurer went on in stories from her own world.
Standing back up, Zeke grabbed Kaida's hands and looked at her closely in the eyes. "Don't worry, I'll be here to protect you." He flirted, albeit with no idea that Kaida would ever do anything with him.
'Is this guy trying to flirt with me?' Kaida thought as she tried to gently push the blonde man away from herself. 'Is this one of the things that girls have to put up with? Creepy guys looking for a date?' She thought to herself as Umbra bit the man's shirt and pulled him away from Kaida.
"Zeke, she's clearly not interested," Zach shouted at his brother, pulling him away from the white-haired girl. "Let's just go get her something to wear and eat before we finish our quest."
"Fine..." Zeke replied, completely uninterested in the quest.
Following the two men, Kaida went to a small tavern where she got a small meal. But after that, the two men left her in the hands of one of the waitresses to get new clothes. At least they gave her the money to pay for what she needed though. Eventually, she had bought a barrel bag along with five different outfits to wear. Thankfully, the waitress had to take another shift so Kaida was sent to a room in the tavern without having to pay.
Laying in bed, Kaida got out of the dress she had been wearing all day so she would be more comfortable. 'This place is crazy.' She thought before drifting off into sleep.
~ The First Day Is Over! ~
A/N: So, I hope you enjoyed the first 'fight' scene of this story, but Kaida isn't the most independent woman. But every character needs to have some sort of weakness. (Also, she hates the sight of blood).
Anyway, I'm putting up this chapter a bit early because I got 1K Followers!
So do any of you have any questions for a little Q&A next chapter?
Also, the next chapter will be up after this story gets 500 reads.
