War: What is it good for?
Yes the title is a song lyric and no I'm not ashamed.
The summon for leaving to the outskirts of Kumo came early in the morning...maybe four hours after I went to sleep. Hearing a bird pecking at your window while nursing a massive hangover was not the best way to start the morning but after a quick Tsunade created 'cure'...I felt ready to go.
"Goodbye Hime. Promise me to stay safe ok? You'll be with Hizashi but you can go stay with Konohamaru if you want...but neither of you can leave to find us, no matter what." Princess and sweet, Hanabi was still my sister and she'd come for me if she could. Her and Konohamaru together would definitely come if nobody told them not to. She's powerful but this is something she doesn't need to see.
"I...fine. You a-are going to come back to me right?"
"I hope so." Her lavender eyes narrowed with ferocity, one that had only started showing the older she got...Kakuzu wasn't the worst influence sometimes I guess.
"I should be going out there with you, I-I'm strong too!" She is but I couldn't...I'd never. I'd die before I let her anywhere near a battlefield like this one, especially one that I wouldn't be there to fight alongside her the entire time.
"I know you're strong, I know...but you're 11 Hime. You don't belong out there yet, I would never want to send you out to war especially one like this."
"P-please come home." She spoke quietly, nervous stutter seeping through before she could catch it. Her smile was bright yet sad, mine was the same.
"I love you." I brushed my fingers through her dark locks, she was my baby and yet she was so big now.
"I love you too Nee-chan." I kissed her forehead, her eyes glistening with tears but she never let them fall, she was straight faced and held her chin up like the princess she is. I left her to say goodbye to father, I hated saying goodbye but we were all going to be in different areas of the war.
My father embraced me in his strong arms and I hugged him back even tighter. "I'm proud of you my daughter. Show them what you are made of."
"I love you papa. Be safe."
"You as well."
Everyone who went out with me last night looked about as bad as my head felt this morning, even Itachi who Shisui and Kisame coerced (teased into submission much to the amusement of Deidara who liked to see the boy crack from his perfection) into getting shit-faced looked less composed than normal. So, me being the so-gracious person I am I gave them all the 'cure' and within seconds everyone looked about as chipper as Gai on his sick days....well except for Kakashi who had a slightly terrifying gleam in his eye every time I looked over at him. I guess he's still salty we coerced him into showing his face. Still worth it.
Everyone was notified of the upcoming war as well as if they will be in the first unit to go to war or if they will be used as backup if the time came. Our groupings were created for the highest chance of success with the least casualties and I could only hope it worked out the way we'd planned. The mood of those of us departing together was anxious yet more calm than last time we went to war.
This one was more dangerous, that everyone knew too well, but it was more comforting to know we weren't totally newbies this time and that we wouldn't be killing thousands of people..our enemies were few and much of what we'd face was probably going to be already dead people. We had more on the line but everyone was prepared to give their everything. There was no hesitation among any of us: not Naruto, not Ino, not any single shinobi called to go in first or as back-up. There was a sense of calm knowing everyone was going to give this their all or die trying.
Things were going to be different this time around, our forces were stronger and more prepared for the enemies skill levels and though the uncertainty of not knowing what is coming was heavy on my chest, I felt comforted knowing the ten tails was severely lacking in the chakra to reach a stage to become its final form...it was preventing Kaguya from coming back already and if we could keep it that way, I was confident we could win this thing.
It wouldn't be easy, I wouldn't trick myself into thinking that but I believe in Naruto, in my team, in my friends, in the villages, in the Akatsuki, in... myself, and in everyone going out there to fight for our homes and the people who live there for now and forever. We were at the advantage with the understanding of how to take down the reanimations before they can take out too many of us as well as the gedo statue being nothing more than a half powered decoration at this point and hopefully that was going to work in our favor.
"Oi, Hot Bitch." Hidan slung a bare arm over my shoulder, I tried to get him to wear something but since I burned his pimp coat, he decided it was that or nothing. Nothing was a better choice. At my eye level he was waving the document I'd written for him to understand his position in our division. "Your ass couldn't part with me this time huh? You're so fuckin' into me you couldn't bare to not have me taking down that four eyed fucker for you." He was wearing the most smug cheshire cat smile, chaotic excitement radiating from his magenta orbs.
"Yes, my overwhelming need to always be with you is exactly why I had us put on the same team."He didn't look the slightest bit affected at the blatant sarcasm dripping from my mouth. Instead, he looked even more excited (slightly crazed as well but that was a normal thing). My arguing to have him be on the same team as me...one of the more important groups in this war...was a point of pride for him.
"Finally! Somebody realizes how fucking awesome and all powerful Jashin-sama is, thats why you're stayin' with me right hot bitch? You get I'm the only one who can sacrifice that four-eyed fucker and end this damn shitty war." He's not wrong, and I confirmed that. "Thanks, Jashin-sama will be pleased with my sacrifice." Hidan knew exactly why I fought for him to be in the same team as me. He shot a smug look to Sasuke and Naruto, mouthing something obscene and out of my view before his smile turned just a bit sweeter.
"You've had my back... and you're kinda being used as a human shield so the least I could do is give you Kabuto so you can 'purify' the earth from him." I smiled up at the white haired man, he was crazy and kind of horrible but I trusted him for whatever reason. No matter what Kabuto threw at us, Hidan could take it, honestly I'm pretty sure he'll thrive in the war.
Kabuto is a threat on levels that few reach and I couldn't just make a team of people who could possibly die when confronting him. Hidan and Kakuzu were the perfect choice in helping the rest of our team subdue and then eliminate him. Well, that and the way that Jashinism revolves around death and chaos so having Hidan fight against one of the actual living enemies we face goes better with his faith.
He's already compromised some of himself for this and I don't want to make him do more by fighting only the reanimations, he is chaos and should get to fight an enemy pleasing to his 'god'. He should have the opportunity to sacrifice Kabuto. Death is so revered in his book and Kabuto is messing with the sanctity of that process, bringing souls back to life and ripping them from Jashin or the afterlife or whatever, it is the anthesis of Hidan's religion and he should get the chance to rectify Kabuto's actions by sacrificing the 'heathen' to his god in punishment for his sins.
Plus Hidan wouldn't make the death all that fun for Kabuto and if the asshole suffers I'd be pretty ok with that.
We made it to the coast of Kumo and Naruto shot off to the top of the platform screaming 'PERVY SAGE' and jumping onto the grinning Sanin. Jiraiya let out a hearty laugh, hugging the blonde to him as he rambled about all of his adventures. Sasuke and I followed, greeting the Sanin and then finding a place to sit and wait for the rest of our army to arrive. The rest of the Konoha 11 came to sit with us as well as Suigetsu and Sai.
Ino, Tenten, Sai, and I were entranced as we watched Deidara and Kurotsuchi throw petty and angry insults back and forth at one another. Within a minute of 'reuniting' they were ready to throttle each other. If Sasori didn't smack him upside the head I'm pretty sure Deidara would have blown up everything trying to get his old friend by now. Not even Itachi managed to piss Deidara off that fast, it was record time for the already quick-to-explode blonde.
It was basically chaos with all the noise around us, people arguing with one another, leaders discussing plans, friends chattering nervously, and fangirls squealing. A little more than a thousand people were here and it was so unbelievably loud and chaotic. The people just kept flooding in, those who were going on the front-lines and those as backup it didn't matter. They were here and it was wild. It was when everyone summoned had finally arrived that people really started getting at one another's throats. With a quick burst of pain from a loud screech sent collectively through our brains by Inoichi and Shikaku did everyone quiet down.
"We are Shinobi first enemies last, this war is more than our villages, it is our world so quiet down and line up." My metaphorical ears were ringing from how freaking loud Shikaku's voice sounded amplified in my head. From the groans around me, everyone else felt the same and nobody really wanted to disagree in fear of getting another mental blast of loudness. People began shuffling around, moving to their assigned divisions. "Don't make this more of a drag than it has to be." He drew out quieter and lazy like I was used to. Everyone who knew Shikamaru shot him an amused look at how similar he and his dad talked.
*^*^*
First Division aka the Zetsu Division: Various ranged combatants led by Kakashi and Mei when Kakashi splits off in his secondary part. This divisions job is to get in close to Zetsu's area making it possible for Naruto, Sasuke, and Kakashi to trap Zetsu and seal him away. Wherever Sasuke went Itachi went and whereever Itachi is Jugo would follow. Most likely Pain is going to be alongside of Zetsu and so the remaining Akatsuki, Killer B, as well as the rest of the fighters in this division are to attack and take out Pain and Konan, goal is to subdue before killing. Deidara is to try and defeat pain as well as blow up the statue if possible.
Second Division:Mainly Short range combatants led by Ay...their job is to split off where they are needed to aid in the sealing of the reanimations and whatever else is thrown at the alliance. Goal is to seal enemies by aiding the long ranged fighters as well as protecting Killer B from getting captured. Killer B, Gai (who is going to be helping more where Kakashi is fighting) Lee, Neji, Kiba, and Shino as well as Asuma are in this division.
Third Division: Long-Range fighters users led by Gaara with aid from Shikamaru they are the ones to split off and draw the attention of the Reanimations to stop them before they can get closer to where Pain and Zetsu are probably fighting. They are to take the brunt of Kabuto's weaponry and to protect Gaara.
Ino-Shika-Cho, Kankuro, and Temari will be in this battle ground before moving in to aid Division 1 as soon as Kabuto is defeated. Sai is technically apart of this division but because he can fly between areas, he will be able to spread information and supplies between the divisions and HQ if needed. Although Deidara is in division 1, he will play a similar role to Sai once Pain is defeated.
Fourth Division:Mid-Range jutsu and weapons users as led by Kitsuchi. Their job is to act as a backup support for the other three divisions, dividing their forces where they see fit in order to defeat the enemy. Have to be the most flexible.
Includes Temari, the Raikage, and the Mizukage.
Medical Division:Led by Tenten. With Tsunade in a coma and Shizune being...gone, I was supposed to be the leader of the medical division if we were going based on skill but first and foremost I am a part of Team 7, a frontline fighting team which means I will battle with my team before I take up any position as a medical commander.
Ino being part of the Ino-Shika-Cho pushed her out of the position as well, she is needed for sharing of information before her taking on commander which left the position to the next best choice (the only choice in my opinion though I had to fight for it) Tenten. She will be commander with the aid of Lady Chiyo. Tenten has to wrangle Gai, Lee, and Neji so commanding a bunch of medics is nothing. She is also the most capable for combat if and when the situation arises, medical tents are targeted and she is strong enough to fight and heal more effectively than anyone else I could think of.
Intelligence and communications Division: Led by Shikaku and Inoichi with the aid of Ao and Hiashi's sensory as well as the help from Shikamaru and Ino's communication skills. Their job is to give reports of what is going on where and sending out new strategies and formations each time something changes.
Kabuto Division: Led by Jiraiya... includes me, Zabuza, Shisui, Hidan, and Kakuzu. Our job is to go to where Kabuto is hiding and take him out, his reanimations are the biggest problem in creating chaos so we are to end it. Even without and army of Zetsu he has access to living people and if he choses to reanimate anyone at a level like Madara, numbers won't matter.
Once that is over, all of us will be joining on the front-lines with Naruto if the war has not met its conclusion.
*^*^*
"As soon as this is over we are having a girls day." Ino pulled Tenten and I into a death grip of a hug, her blue eyes sparking with tears but her voice was unwavering and strong. I squeezed them both just as hard. "Don't take all the stress onto yourself Hina, you are not god and no matter what you've done your best...and If you let that bastard Kabuto get to you I'm going to kill you." Her eyes were gleaming, all knowing as always.
"Ok. I won't." She always knows, I couldn't hide my thoughts from her if I tried. Ino was perceptive like that, she knew how people's minds worked and it made her that much more impressive.
"And you Ten...you show them who is commander and why you earned your spot. You are talented and a badass and no matter what, fighting or healing I know you're going to rock it." Tenten looked up with more confidence and she smiled. She was commander and she earned it.
"Of course I will. Be safe, both of you. We're going to get through this on top, then we can grill you Hina. Kick some ass, and let's show these assholes they messed with the wrong villages... Andplease Ino, you're not in the same division yet but if you come across one another pleasemake sure Lee doesn't go overboard if he doesn't have to."
"I promise."
"I love you guys." I squeezed them both tighter, a laugh bubbling from my throat. "Ino, you're a leader as much as the rest of us so use that pretty brain of yours and make sure you don't lose. Tenten, you are commander for a reason, there is nobody better so you just do you. You are on a team with Lee, Gai, and Neji; this is nothing." Tenten snickered at how right I was. "Lets do this, I'll see you both on the flip-side." They both headed over to say their other goodbyes before going to their designated areas.
Before Kiba could get sucked into the chaos of the third division I cupped my hands around my mouth and shouted loudly: "HEY DOG BREATH!" When multiple people craned their necks to look at me expectantly I snorted in a weak attempt at snuffing out my laughter. Who knew more than just Kiba got called that, granted Tsume was one of the others to look my way but still. "I GUESS I WON'T MISS YOU EITHER!" I called over the chattering and bustling pack of a thousand Shinobi just loud enough for him to hear me.
Kiba grinned wolfishly grabbing Shino's hand and dragging him over to meet me halfway. I bent down just enough to let Akamaru nuzzle my cheek and I scratched his ears happily. Kiba was basking in the attention. Shino didn't even look phased, being best friends turned lovers with someone like Kiba he was used to being dragged around to things. "My bad... I think we kinda did this last night though." I furrowed my brows, looking to Shino for clarification.
"I believe you do not remember your farewells. Why? Because you had drank well over the safe limit of alcohol for someone of your size and body mass." Ahh that's very true. Tsunade would have been proud. I guess I gave a slurred mess of a goodbye then.
"Was this after Deidara, Suigetsu, Sasuke, Hidan, and I all tried and failed to take on Naruto? If so, the only thing I remember past that point was falling from...something." It might have been from Deidara's clay owl but if the ink stains on my clothes were any indication it might have been Sai as well. I didn't break anything though so one of the more sober people had to have fixed the problem...though most of us weren't anything but trashed by then. It was pretty fun to let loose for all of us.
"Yeah, that was wild. I still can't believe the idiot can out drink all of us." Kiba gave a quick shake of his wild hair...Naruto combined with Kuruma means he has to drink many times the amount any normal person does to get any type of drunk. It's good for him to not make it a habit but the loss stung, Sasuke more than the rest of us. Sharingan is hax for everything except alcohol tolerance apparently.
"How about we try it again? I'd actually like to remember it in case...ya know...shit goes down."
"I would like that. Why? Because we are comrades and friends and being forgotten is something I despise, accidental or otherwise." Shino's shades were dark but I knew he was giving Kiba the side eye. He left Shino in a different town on accident once, saying he was so quiet sometimes he didn't realize the bug user wasn't following him any longer. Us girls got to hear Shino 'rant' about it in frustration and Kiba hasn't lived it down since.
I wrapped my arms around Shino, squeezing until I could feel his body through the thick ass coat. The boy was as stiff as ever as he calmly returned the gesture. "Take care of one another ok? Especially you Shino, don't let him get a big head and rush into things without thinking." He nodded, already on that plan to keep Kiba from being unnecessarily reckless. I could feel the specialized chakra vibrating under his skin and a small beetle crawled out from his hand onto my shoulder. "What's this little guy for?"
"An ally on each set of teams has one of my specialized Kikaichu beetles. They link all of you to me. Why? So I am alerted of your whereabouts as well as your chakra levels. It allows for Kiba and I to aid whoever needs it the most without waiting for relay from our commander." Shino had a ghost of a proud smile on his face.
"That amazing!" After much work his breeding was successful to an impressive level, I was amazed at him being able to do something so useful and there were no needs for seals or unbelievable sensors or specialized jutsu to connect us.
The noise levels were quieter as people were now being rushed to their positions. I turned to Kiba, sticking my tongue out tauntingly and he groaned about having to hug my 'beastly self' smiling coyly all the while. He pulled me into a tight hug before pushing me back, his hands gripping tightly onto my shoulders. His face dropped into a serious, slightly aggressive one, a low growl rumbling at the back of his throat. His eyes were slitted and unwavering in their contact with my own, looking for something.
"Don't let that piece of shit get into your head, don't be afraid of him, you're not at a disadvantage like last time. After...everything...don't be an idiot to get even or whatever, get even by beating him and living. You have a team so don't go off to play hero all alone, you're gonna win but don't let him get to you this time, kick his ass. Got it?" Akamaru barked in agreement with Kiba, Shino nodding along as well.
"Yeah, I got it, I don't know what seeing him will feel like but I'm not letting him win this time. He's going to die and I'm going to live to see it." The Inuzuka was not going to let me go until he was positive I wasn't going to freak out or lose my shit before I even started. A few months back he would have been right, even now the idea of seeing Kabuto sent shivers down my spine especially with him being infinitely stronger than before.
I was stronger as well but I knew I couldn't take him on alone...at least not without dying or getting captured as a 'chakra bag' forever. Even then, I wasn't trembling like for Orochimaru, my mind was clear. I had more to fight for, I was finally realizing that I have something, someone to live for. Kabuto was scary but I had people to back me up and I them, I couldn't lose to him. Not again.
Accepting the resolve burning in my eyes, we parted ways. I'd said all my goodbyes now and it was time. I found Kakuzu easily with his towering height and odd chakra so I made my way over to him, standing below the platform where Jiraiya was standing proudly. The groups were fully sorted, those first to go into battle standing in the front with our reserves standing behind.
Even with less people to argue with one another, tension was running high between the villages Shinobi as they taunted and spoke down to one another completely untrusting of their supposed comrades. It was truly a situation of the enemy of my enemy is my friend...but with that everyone was still untrusting. I get the difficulty of putting aside hate to get something done but it needs to happen, comradely between all of us as we fight together is the only way to end this damn thing.
Kakashi thought the same thing so with a nudge, he coaxed Gaara forward. Another wave of painful noise echoed in our heads, commanding everyone to silence themselves before the harsh words turned to physical responses. It was a successful way to quiet everyone down to listen to Gaara; though it didn't stop the hostile (or fearful for those looking at the rogue-nin) looks people were sharing.
(3d person POV)
"I understand your mistrust in one another, it is founded but I ask of you...forget your hatred, put it behind you and accept your neighbor as you would a friend so we may fight together with camaraderie and trust." Gaara's raspy voice echoed around everyone with a calm tenor that seemed to urge everyone into wanting to listen to more of what he had to say; even those who scoffed at his ignorance and youth just moments prior. His presence was commanding in a way different than someone like Naruto or Kakashi, it was easily looked over but once you notice his presence...he becomes impossible to ignore.
"I too was once full of hatred and lusted after blood and power. There are times even now that I feel that way as a Jinchuriki but even before my seal was stabilized, I was no different than the Akatsuki is now. But...that changed, I changed all because the actions of a Kunoichi from Konoha."
Gaara looked through the crowd to find Hinata, his chest filling with a comforting warmth when he found the Hyuga princess. Her lavender eyes were sparking with shock and slight embarrassment from the unexpected praise. Her her heart skipped a beat and some of the stress seemed to melt at the reminder that she actually did something right, that she—this version of Hinata—truly mattered that much. Sometimes it was easy for her to forget and often she felt undeserving like she was just manipulating life to her benefit but Gaara's words, that look in his eye, made that melt away once more.
Hinata didn't know he truly thought that highly of her and she couldn't help the way her lips curved into a small, breathtaking smile directed at the Kazekage. "A woman that showed me unconditional love and acted as my friend even when I threatened her life. A woman that cared for my safety above her own. She killed for my sake not because we were from the same village or because I had done anything to warrant it because I was human."
Temari and Kankuro were bursting with pride—and slight amusement at the way their little brother was looking only at his little 'crush'—as Gaara commanded the attention of an army. Once more they were reminded of how far he had come and they couldn't have been more proud of the man he had grown into. "She introduced me to another Jinchuriki because she didn't want me to be alone in something few could understand. There I met the Konoha shinobi who taught me friendship and how to understand the beast inside me. Together they saved me from myself." Gaara looked to a beaming Naruto, his strength and warmth beaming off of him like always.
The redhead knew once more what he was fighting to protect and that though he was commander, he would forever follow whatever Naruto asked of him. "They saw past the differing villages we came from and showed me true strength. They taught me to be stronger by fighting for love, for my bonds, and for humanity instead of for my selfish gain or the hatred in my heart." Gaara's shoulders were back, his posture tall with confidence as his voice raised into one filled with resolute determination to persuade his allies to join him.
"Because I fight to protect my friends, my village, all of you; I am strong. I ask you to do the same. To fight to protect Naruto Uzumaki, a Jinchuriki who has every reason to hate every one of us and yet he fights to protect us from the hate in the world. We are not our ancestors, forget the hate and malice they burdened us with. Forget the animosity between our villages. Together as we face the Akatsuki...become what my friends made me, fight for one another and we will be truly strong. On this day as we fight for our world, we are all one. We are people...We are Shinobi."
His words rang clear and firm, striking through the hearts and minds of everyone listening. Though Gaara was young, his speech had captured everyone, convincing them of his competency as a commander and as a man. He was someone worth following; and if Naruto was the same...even more then many had decided then and there the would follow Naruto as well. At least for the duration of the war.
Even with a resolve to work together, there was still hesitation gripping many of the (older) ninja; one speech couldn't change that; but what the Kazekage had spoken made sense, they would be stronger together. The humbled silence was broken as Kakashi gave a slow clap followed by Hinata and Naruto. One by one everyone was clapping and cheering. The once tense atmosphere held between the rivaling ninja dissipated when everyone decided they were ready to fight for instead of against one another. If it would bring peace and strength to them, they would need it to finish this war with less casualties like the strategists had planned.
*^*^*
"Kabuto-sama they are on the move...the largest group has stayed behind, 150 are heading towards Zetsu's location separated into their own divisions...each one containing one of the Jinchuriki. There is also a small group of 6...no 7 who split off, coming our direction. The same chakra as before is among them...as well as the one you have been waiting for. They are a little over 120 kilometers away." Kabuto's creepy snake-like features twisted into an eerie and excitable smirk.
He was practically oozing with insanity and excitement at the mere thought of his Hyuga and her special chakra returning to his grasp. He could almost taste her already, oh how he'd missed that wonderfully otherworldly chakra and the girl to go along with it. He couldn't wait to watch her break as he completed his masters wishes and helped the world burn.
His forked tongue darted out to lick his white, snake-skin like lips making the scaled skin shine much like the creature he had become akin to along his travels for power.
His informant shivered at the sight, turning and huffing so she didn't have to see how creepy he looked now. She once thought Orochimaru was creepy and borderline snake-like but Kabuto truly took it to another level. Even his chakra felt constricting and venomous like the serpents he had become so connected to.
"Time to have a little fun then. Let's see how the alliance enjoys my little pawns. But, ahh, if the great toad sage is coming for me already I guess playing it safe isn't going to work. I was hoping to keep some of my more...collectible pieces for the finale but this will have to do. I can't let my little prey have a chance for escape now can I." Kabuto rearranged the go pieces before him, the two being weaved between his fingers placed last, side by side in front of the out of place Queen from a discarded chess board.
Kabuto waved the girl off, telling her to keep scouting and let him know everything she finds out as soon as they are in a better range for her senses. "Not even a thank you? You're so ungrateful." The teen mumbled under her breath, frowning angrily and crossing her arms in frustration.
"Remember, you are only alive because of your usefulness so keep your insufferable mouth shut unless it is to do your job. Or would you rather I kill you and bring you back completely under my control." Kabuto's smile was as eerie and off as it has always been, it was almost kind and jovial with the hint of disinterest and malice mixed in. It was creepy as hell and the girl decided she almost liked his crazed grin better than this one. With a start, the girl hustled away, wanting to keep her life intact.
With a pulse of Kabuto's chakra, draining him quite a bit, the pieces shook and the war's pace had officially changed as his 'zombies' came out of hibernation. His eyes gleamed darkly, glowing with an eerie purple as he looked over his impending chaos. He was now the one in control of the flow, Zetsu was one mastermind, he was the other and he wanted to see how his little Hyuga's army could compare to what he had in-store for them.
*^*^*
The Kabuto division pushed forward at a breakneck speed, anxious and excited chakra thrumming ready for use through each of them. The anticipation only skyrocketed after Hinata had felt the massive influx of chakra from the war-zone. She wasn't the best sensory ninja out there but her skills were sharp enough that the boom of chakras where her friends were left behind was impossible to miss. The chakra was powerful, suffocating, and slightly odd; for her it was a clear symbol the war had begun and the reanimations...powerful ones if the chakra had anything to say about it...were finally released.
For her and her team that just meant they had to work faster, their plan was in place for a reason and Hinata would not accept defeat. Hidan donned a crooked grin of pure ecstasy as he felt the bloodlust rolling off of his 'hot bitch' in deadly waves. This time she wasn't blinded by her need to kill like she was with Orochimaru and it was almost better that she was perfectly conscious in her desire to kill. It was as intoxicating and driving as the fiery look that burned in the depths of her soft lavender orbs.
"We're getting closer, take your positions and don't engage until I say so. If you meet with a reanimation, incapacitate and seal them." Jiraiya commanded his small platoon with the force of an army. He received a choruses of what he assumed to be 'yes' though with some of his so called subordinates that was questionable.
The white haired Sanin broke off to the left, heading to his position further from the base than the rest to enter Sage mode without being sensed by just any basic sensor Kabuto might have (or be at this point if Hinata was being honest). Shisui went the same direction as the line of defense for the Sanin to be still easier than if he was alone.
Hidan and Kakuzu went to the right, the gray haired Jashinist taking on a terrifyingly bloodthirsty look that practically oozed from his magenta eyes. He wanted to feel the pleasure of Kabuto's life slipping away more and more as the seconds raged on, Jashin was practically calling for his blood and Hidan couldn't wait to shed it for his god and for the hot bitch that the asshole had traumatized.
Hinata and Zabuza pushed forward as they were the best team to take the head-on approach into Kabuto's —dubbed wonderfully by Shisui— Labyrinth of Doom. The girl had a gut feeling that Kabuto was still looking for her, waiting for a moment to take her away and break her like he was unable to do before. Holding an obsession for a person, especially for something like their 'otherworldly feeling chakra, seemed a bit far fetched. However, in the world of fucking crazy ninja and men like Kabuto Yakushi who was a creepy obsessive freak even in canon, Hinata wouldn't ever think to say that Kabuto wasn't interested in her...chakra...anymore.
Although she wasn't ready to just throw away her life, not anymore, Hinata knew taking the position that would be most likely to distract Kabuto enough for some of their manydifferent plans to work. She wasn't eager in running into the lair of someone who could possibly be one of the strongest living foes right now but it had to be done. Plus, her desire to crush everything Kabuto has done and plans to do was much stronger than her fear for facing the man-snake? who aided in her breaking point as a younger teen.
Zabuza wasn't thrilled with their positioning but even the gruff, demonic swordsman knew this was their best option to fight and counter the abilities Kabuto had to spare. The ever angry and slightly sadistic male decided that, with each step bringing him closer to a battle he was only in because of the damn brat he had promised Haku to protect, he hated Kabuto...he really hated Kabuto for even existing. Zabuza didn't fucking plan on fighting a silver haired brat to stop the kid from fucking reviving the dead, like who the fuck did that... Zabuza was from Kiri but that was even horrible in his 'blood mist child killer' tainted eyes,so his unborn children actually had a world to be birthed into.
Hinata raced forward until a chakra began forming in front of her. The chakra that she was picking up made her stiffen it was weird familiar yet somehow she couldn't place it. She skidded to a stop, Zabuza close behind, taking her back with his executioners blade at the ready. The veins surrounding her eyes were prominent as her Byakugan pulsed to life, giving her a clearer 360 of the area around her. Her chakra shifted and swirled anxiously in her body, coursing like rough waves during a storm as she prepared for use to attack and defend.
Two unmarked, shoddily made stone graves burst forth from the ground, one of the lids creaking open before everything went hazy. Hinata's vision cleared and she was alone, her heart rate picking up just slightly when she was unable to sense Zabuza's...anyone's chakra.
"Zabuza!!" She opened her mouth to call out but it was no louder than a breathy whisper. Everything was too still, too quiet until a wall of arrows were sent hurtling towards her. She couldn't move, her limbs began to melt to the ground and it was only when she caught the unmistakable silver shimmer of misguided chakra that she was able to send out a wave and break the heavily layered genjutsu expertly manipulated through her system.
What could have been minutes to hours of Genjutsu breaking was only seconds for Hinata. She had been caught one too many times to let herself be that vulnerable to the one of the most manipulative and under appreciated Shinobi arts. Though she wasn't an expert in casting them, her Byakugan and (torture) expert knowledge in Chakra's movements made her highly capable of breaking out of any non-Sharingan induced Genjutsu.
Hinata had just enough time to dodge, and throw a counter kick that was blocked but strong enough to have her opponent thrown backwards on unstable legs. Hinata was ready for the kill, only to stop as she was forced to break through another Genjutsu and dodge a swipe to her throat. There, standing before her with a snarl on her once youthful and kind face was the unmistakeable form of a reanimated Sakura Haruno.
No wonder the chakra felt so fucking familiar.Although the chakra was slightly jaded with Kabuto's and well Sakura being dead for a few years...it was definitely her chakra. That made hint's stomach plummet as she wondered who the other chakra was going to be. It was familiar, even more so than Sakura but it was also just out of her range of memory of who it belonged to. It had to be someone from her academy days...she just hoped the guess she had as to who it is would be oh so wrong.
"Sakura...I-" Hinata had her guard raised but her lips quivered and her hands shook. Out of fear, anger, or sadness the Hyuga was unsure. Probably an unhealthy mix of them all. She had never planned on seeing Sakura again, she didn't want to see the girl after finally accepting her death wasn't completely her fault. Sure, Hinata had a deep dislike for the girl who tried to kill her and fucked with her mind worse than anyone else but Hinata didn't want to fight the dead, jaded girl. Even Sakura didn't deserve to be brought back from the afterlife like some kind of puppet.
"You bitch, you ruined everything. I died because of you...because of Sasuke! It should have been you laying there dying and this time...it will be." She growled, emerald green and black eyes narrowing with malice and unshed tears as the pinkette brandished a weapon. She hated that Hinata got to grow old, that Hinata got to be the one saved, that she had to die so young. Hinata would pay and though Kabuto had forced Sakura to be unable to truly kill the girl, yet. Sakura was going to bring her damn near the brink.
"My bad?" It came out as a question...aggravating Sakura and amusing the (peeping) Kabuto Of course Hinata had many more profound things to say, she had gone over them in her head like any normal girl would after they were in an argument or whatever...like maybe an apology combined with some harsh words for Sakura but instead she just...blanked and spit out something just as good as some bomb ass, angry heart to heart with a dead girl who wanted to skin her alive.
What a life.
Zabuza's chakra swirled to life beside Hinata, an unmistakable feeling of death coating the area. A demon, made of tendrils of darkness from his tainted chakra formed around the sword wielding ex-missing nin. The genjustu was good, perfect in fact but after years of training (and losing though nobody needed to know that) with Kakashi and often Shisui a Genjutsu that is possible to break could not capture the demon of the mist so easy.
"You? This is the little shit Kabuto sent to capture us. Pathetic." He grunted coldly as he hacked off one of her small, dainty limbs with a swing from his monstrous blade.
That seemed to rile up the partially controlled reanimated Sakura and the girl went in for another attack, mildly occupying Hinata with bursts of ranged attacks and Genjutsu's giving time for the other coffin to open. If Sakura didn't cause enough of a reaction to disorient Hinata, this one would. And to take care of her little guardian, Kabuto sent in another reanimation he was sure to draw Zabuza's attention.
*^*^*
Because Kabuto's prized sensor hadn't met the others that were traveling with Jiraiya and Hinata, she couldn't tell him exactly who was coming. So to make the reanimations hit his opponents where it really hurt, Kabuto sent out observers of sorts. All fo his reanimations were linked to his mind so being the self proclaimed genius he was, Kabuto could use the reanimations he has to identify his opponents and then pick and choose the most optimal reanimations to fight them...physically or emotionally depending on how much information he has on a person.
So, when he finally found the intensities of his other pursuers...as well as where his main threats were on the battle field, he was having the time of his life deciding in which ways he wanted to crush his enemies: Heart, mind, and body as they were forced to fight their worst nightmares. He knew lord Orochimaru would be proud, he had perfected a jutsu from his master and made it the much more chaotically beautiful.
There was just something pleasing about breaking an enemy, about the inner turmoil they would face as they fought a friend, a lover, a family member. It was delicious and would cause enough chaos and hesitation for any sane person that Kabuto could capture Hinata and completely destroy the rest his enemies with that much more ease...and flair.
Long time no write! Sorry I said the next chapter would be faster but heh, nope. I really liked the way this chapter turned out and the next one is going to be action packed and exciting I hope as we move through the final stages of this book and onto the lovey-dovey endings. Thank you for reading this far I appreciate it a lot!
I moved into my dorm though, and then had to evacuate because of a hurricane but that's all fine and dandy. So I hope any of you in that area are safe as well. I hope all you have a great day/night and I appreciate all of your continuous support!
Question: What is a controversial opinion you have?
Answer: Literally everything....but ok so one of them is that I hate feminism....I agree with equality and woman being strong and all that jazz because a lot of that stuff is BS for how women are treated and stereotyped but it is getting better...but so many feminists have become extremists and made feminism a bad thing so I just...don't like it I guess.
That and the way movies do it sometimes, like yes have a strong woman role and superhero and stuff, I have been a captain marvel fan since I was 7-ish probably but like sometimes it is so misplaced and forced down our throats to a level I'm not a fan of....but also if guys did it the same way it annoys me so yeah.
