Rehman POV

I waited until she opened the door. I knew she was hurt after listening to whatever I said, but she needed to know whom she had been loving all this while. The more I spent time with her, the more I understood that she had an image of mine, all made up by her, in her mind.

And that was not the correct image.

It was not like I was a bad man or someone who would hurt her, but she should know who I actually was.

I knew that wars were bad, but we could not really escape them.

They are inevitable, especially when the people against you are so desperate to have your blood on their blades. And not giving them that chance was really something that I truly enjoyed.

"Are you okay?" I asked as soon as she opened the door, and my gaze fell on her.

My sight stuck on her. The long, open hair danced way past her hips. The soft and tiny curls embraced the beauty of her kohl-filled doe eyes. The way her lips stayed silent as she nodded, I could not help but feel a twitch in my heart.

Why was she so silent all of a sudden?

"Aap soye nahi abhi tak?"

"You have not slept yet?" she asked in a low voice, without even looking into my eyes as she walked past me, pinning my thoughts to the noise of her anklet bells.

"Aapka intzaar kar rahe the hum,"

"I was waiting for you," I said, and the way she just simply nodded and walked away from me to the bed without even looking at me made my brows knit.

What happened?

Did she feel that bad about it?

I knew it was wrong to kill people, but wars happen. I did not know why, but I felt as if she was taking me as a culprit for the women who might have suffered after their husbands lost the wars to me.

But, marrying up the rival's wives was not really in our family.

"Rehana," I called her in a low voice, and she just silently parted the bed's curtains aside and lay down.

I looked away with confusion.

Maybe she was too tired to reply.

After leaving it, I went into the bathroom to take a bath and change into my night clothes, which were plain kurtas in deep blue. After returning, I held the book in my hand and reached the side of the bed.

Finding her sleeping with her face opposite me made me knit my brows. Still, I silently laid down and began reading the book.

She might be tired.

But, this was not very her.

"Rehana, Bache," I called her out slowly, but she did not reply.

I did not know, but I felt as if she was not sleeping. She seemed upset. She seemed cut off.

And, seeing her like that, I could not really concentrate on reading.

So, I kept the book aside, turned on my side, and touched her arm.

"Rehana," I called her out slowly.

The lights were dim, the coldness was there, and the curtains were drawn. It was absolutely silence.

For a moment, I made up my mind that she had fallen asleep, but the moment I noticed the slight tingle of her bangle, my eyes alerted. I immediately shifted closer to her, keeping my head resting against the lift of my elbow.

"Rehana," I called out slowly again. When she did not reply, I gently wrapped my arm around her and pulled her closer to me. My chest touched her back, and I leaned over the side of her face and caressed her chin.

"What happened? Bache," I asked in a low voice, and she opened her eyes, blinking upsettedly.

She had not taken off her bangles and anklets. Shifting slightly, she looked into my eyes and asked.

"Why did you marry me?" she asked, and I knit my brows with confusion.

"I told you already," I said in a low voice, and she immediately sat up, looked into my eyes, and shook her head.

"No. You married me because you felt guilty that I was in the brothel because of your father," she said, and the way her words hit my hurting nerve directly, I could not help but stay silent.

"You felt pitied for me," she said, and I gulped, lowering my gaze.

"Rehana," I tried to say something.

"Tell me I am wrong," she said, and I inhaled deeply before looking away. And, suddenly, she punched softly into my chest and laid back.

"You are not Jaan-e-Jahan anymore. My Jaan-e-Jahan does not kill. He only loves. He is a good man. He is a nice man. He will never kill someone. He will never hurt someone," she kept speaking. I hugged her tightly from behind and closed my eyes.

"That is how things work, Bache," I said in a low voice, trying to calm her down and think from my perspective for a moment. But she suddenly turned to face me and looked into my eyes.

"No. When Sultans like you fight, we suffer. The daughters, the wives, and the maids suffer. We get sold, used, abused, raped, and killed for your comfort. And I never thought that you would be a Sultan,"

"Or you would have not married me?" I asked, and she stared at me briefly before shaking her head cutely.

"No, I would have pushed you away," she said, and I chuckled softly and collected her in my arms to make her lie on my chest and pushed the loose strand of her hair behind her ear while staring into her tense eyes.

"I do not know about others, Rehana, but I do care a lot about you," I said, and she immediately straightened up and looked into my eyes.

"Yes, that is why you remembered me after seven years. I really hate you and cannot understand you. And I love you a little less now because you have killed people. You should not kill anyone. The people have lives. They get hurt. I know they do stupid things, but that does not mean you will kill them. They deserve a second chance, maybe a third or fourth, before they understand right or wrong. But killing them and shedding their blood is straight-up evil. I know you are a Sultan, but you can be a forgiving Sultan as well. You can be a good person as well. I do not know,w but something is happening to me. These hands have killed people," he said, holding my hands in hers. And, listening to her rant, I could not help but smile. Finally, she was talking.

"Ah, I cannot believe that you are a killer. How can you?"

"You know fencing, right?" I cut her off, and she immediately looked into my eyes from my hands.

She stayed silent for a few moments, knit her brow,s and then nodded.

"Yes. But I can never kill anyone," she said, and I immediately pulled her closer over my chest, and she shrunk timidly when I caressed her cheek.

"Not even when someone would try to kill me," I asked, and she stared at me with a tightened jaw and asked.

"Why would you ask those stupid questions?" she asked, and I smiled before putting her under me and hovering over her.

"Try answering," I said, and she stared at me for a few moments before shaking her head.

"I do not know. Killing someone is... way too painful and bad," she said in a low voice, and I leaned closer and pecked her lips gently.

"Shut up," I said in a low voice, and she inhaled deeply.

I still could not get over the mesmerizing smell and softness that I tasted that night.

"Do not kiss me," she said, placing her fingers on my lips. "I do not want to be kissed by a killer," she said, and I smiled and asked.

"Are you sure?" I asked, and she nodded.

"Yes, I am one hundred percent sure. How can you kill someone Jaan-e-Jahan? I still cannot digest that. I thought my Jaan-e-Jahan would love everyone and care about all," she said, and I laid beside her, weighing my head on my elbow, and looked into her beautiful eyes.

"Life is not what you see, Bache. Bad people exist, and sometimes the only thing that is left to keep ourselves safe is to kill them," I tried to explain to her, and she shook her head.

"No, Jaan-e-Jahan," she said, turning slightly towards me and placing her hand on my chest to look at my face. "If we will forgive them, then why would people do bad things,"

Her words made me smile, and I slid my hand under her and wrapped it around her to caress her back. My hand glided down to her cute, tiny little hips, and I slowly began to pat her.

"Not everyone deserves forgiveness, Rehana. You tell me, will you ever forgive your stepmother?" I asked, and she immediately replied.

"I have already forgiven her. You know, if she would ask me to keep her with me, I would. I mean, she might have needed money to feed her stomach. And, since I was the dirty blood in the family, she sold me," she said, and I shook my head.

"I can never," I said, staring at her. How could she? I could never forgive her family, her father, or anyone who was actually responsible for her condition.

"Yes, that's why you kill," she said, pouting cutely, and I chuckled, bringing her head closer to my chest.

She yawned all of a sudden. "I am too tired to even talk to you now," she said, and I smiled caressing her head.

"By the way, are you okay?" I asked, referring to how I could not stop myself from eating her. I felt guilty after that for so many reasons. But every time I looked at her smiley face, I felt that I did nothing wrong. She was my life, and her happiness in all fields was my responsibility.

"Hnn," she hummed softly and closed her eyes, yawning again.

"Good night, Bache," I said, kissing her forehead, and she replied in a sleepy voice.

"Good night, Jaan-e-Jahan,"

Her words brought a smile to my face. When she fell asleep, I gently pushed her to the side and read a few pages before she fell asleep again.

When I woke up early in the morning, I served my prayers after getting ready, went for a walk as usual, and met my mother.

She was sleepy after last night as well.

When I came back to our chamber, I found my wife already in beautiful yellow attire.

Her eyes sparkled as I stepped into the chamber.

"Jaan-e-Jahan," she called me out, draping her dupatta, and I hummed, sitting on the couch.

"hnn,"

"Can I go out to the market? I want to buy a few things," she said, standing before me, and I knit my brows with a smile.

"Should I call the sellers in the Sultanate? You can choose and buy here," I offered,d and she immediately shook her head.

"No, I loved the market that day. It is beautiful, and there are so many things. Please," she said, and I nodded calculatedly.

I did not have a good feeling about it, especially when her hand had just been cured. Still, the skin was peeling off, and a new one was coming over.

"Alright, I will get ready and ask the attendees and soldier to be ready as well," I said, standing up from her couch, and happiness fainted on her face.

"What happened?" I asked, and she immediately shook her head.

"Okay, I am waiting," she said in a low voice and I went inside to change into the royal clothes but the time I came back I found the chamber utterly empty.

"Rehana," I called her out and raked my eyes.

An attendee came running.

"Where is Rehana?" I asked her, and she bent down a little.

"She has already left, Sultan," the moment she informed me, my eyes widened with shock, and my hand went to the blade beside my waist.

"What do you mean she has already left? With whom?" I asked, and she shook her head.

"She only asked me to inform you that she will be back soon. She did not want to trouble you as Sultan Rafiq wants to meet you," the attendee informed me, and I inhaled sharply.

What the hell was she even thinking?

How could she step out without me, especially just after a day of her arrival ceremony?

I immediately went out of the chamber and took hurried steps to the stable. Asking the soldiers to join, I quickly rode out of the Sultanate to search for her.

She would not have gone very far.
