Worry Flurry

In this day and age, technologies and design has grown a lot, hand in hand, and they've grown quickly. Which meant that websites has old as even just two years were now outdated. The only way to make your websites look good was to update it constantly, with the newfound technology and the ever-changing public opinion.

Martha knew a little although about it, but she didn't spend a lot of her time on the internet.

She'd never thought a website so dull and old could have an effect like this.

At first, Jared and Veronica looked a surprised, even shocked at the tiny words in the short list, but they seemed to have calmed down by now. They were staring at the small screen with twin expressions of anxiousness.

But Michael and Jenna looked as though Michael had just started a nuclear war. Michael was staring wide eyed at the dim screen in horror, and Martha wasn't even sure he was breathing. Meanwhile Jenna was backing away with the same expression of horror. Her eyes were pinned to the screen in terror, and her breathes came in short panicked waves.

Martha felt a little embarrassed. She felt as if she should probably know what this was all about, but she didn't. So, with a twinge of regret's he asked.

"Er..." Martha muttered. Everyone looked towards her. "What is a SQUIP?"

"It's..." Michael shuddered, and trailed off. Jenna picked up where he left off.

"It's a grey oblong pill that travels through your blood until it implants in your brain and it tells you what to do!" Jenna explained in a panicked rush. "It's supposed to teach you how to be cool, but it just mind controls you and manipulates you into taking over the world!!"

Martha blinked. "Really?" she asked. That seemed... very farfetched, but the panic Michael and Jenna were showing was real.

"YES!!" Michael and Jenna cried out together.

"Wait, what?" Jared asked.

"Was that how you guys got into the school?" Veronica asked. "SQUIPs? Was that the drug?"

"Yeah!" Michael replied, nodding. Jenna frowned.

"Wait, but you didn't get a-"

"It was the SQUIP!" Michael cried.

"Weird," Jared muttered. "I'd always thought that SQUIPs weren't actually real. I thought they were just some rumour. They always seemed too good to be true."

"No, you're right," Jenna sighed. "They ARE too good to be true. Turns out they're corrupt."

"And wanted world domination," Michael added.

"Wow," Martha muttered, staring at both Michael and Jenna. "So if they made that We'll Get Better app..."

"...Than the We'll Get Better app is probably not good either," Veronica finished. "Michael, we need to tell everyone, we need to get out who made this-."

Veronica suddenly paused, staring at the screen. Curiously, Martha moved to see it, and frowned.

On the computer screen, a pop up suddenly appeared. Squinting, Martha read:

Hello! This is a very old version of our website.

Would you like to move to the new, updated one?

[Yes] [Don't Ask Me Again]

Michael blinked, than looked up at Veronica. She exchanged a glace with him, than nodded.

Michael clicked the [Yes] option, much to Jared's dismay.

"What are you doing?" he exclaimed in horror. "It'll possess us!"

"I don't think a website can possess you, Jared," Veronica told him.

"Oh, really?" Jared asked her, sarcasm dripping. He waved in the direction of Jenna and Michael. "It possessed them."

"It didn't possess us," Michael argued, frowning. The website was still loading. "And it was a pill."

"Whatever!"

"Jared, you are always welcome to leave," Veronica snapped. Jared opened his mouth to retort, but eventually closed it again. And the matter was closed.

Eventually, the website loaded, and a much more advanced and much friendlier blue and green design filled the screen. Martha thought it looked a lot better.

"This... this is new," Jared said, blinking through his big glasses at the screen. "This was put up this year."

"Last month, actually," Jenna added, squinting. Her, Michael, Jenna and Veronica leaned in, apparently very interested by this fact. Martha frowned; was she missing something? Why was it so important that it was made last month?

"Well, companies update their websites all the time, right?" she asked. "So this is probably normal for them."

"You're right, they do usually update their site," Michael told her. "But that's the thing. They usually update their site. Usually people don't just make two websites unless they're hiding from something."

Martha gasped. "Really?"

"Yeah, illegal pirating websites do it, too," Jared answered. "Well, some."

"Oh."

"Yeah," Jenna agreed. "I'll bet that they'll take their other website down soon-"

"Oh!" Veronica suddenly exclaimed. "I recognize this! I went on this website a little while ago while I was investigating the app!"

"Investigating?" Jared muttered. "So that's what you call it..."

Veronica ignored him. "But I didn't find anything," she told them. "It seemed like just a normal website about the We'll Get Better app and the Tech Behind company. I didn't see anything about the SQUIP."

"Hmm," Michael said.

"Michael, I think you should screenshot the last website," Veronica told him, and Michael nodded in agreement. "Just in case."

"Okay."

"Oh, good," Jenna enthusiastically agreed. "That way we have proof."

Michael clicked the history button, but when he tried going back, he found instead of the website blinking in, there was only a disappointing message:

Error 404

Website Not Found

[Reload]

"What?!" Veronica cried. Michael clicked reload, but the message just disappeared and then reappeared. He tired one more time, but it was in vain.

"It's gone," he sighed.

"Just our luck," Jared spat.

"How?!" Veronica exclaimed. "It was just there!"

"Well... they took it down," Michael told her. "We lost our proof."

"Oh no," Martha whispered. She looked around at her friend's downcast faces and felt sorry for them.

"Well, that's that," Michael sighed, trying to stand up, but Veronica didn't let him. "Wha-?"

"That's not it," she told him firmly. "Go back to their new website."

Michael, although he looked disappointed, sat down again and did as she asked.

"Now scroll down."

He did.

"There!" she announced, pointing to a specific bit of text on the screen. Jenna, Jared and Martha leaned forward to see it.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask Roman Walker at: [email protected]

"We're... We're going to email him?" Martha asked. Veromica nodded, silent iin cold determination.

Michael frowned, then shrugged. "Alright," he said. "Who's email are we using?"

"I'll use mine," Veronica told him. "Move aside."

And soon enough, Veronica had felt she had an adequate email to send.

Dear Roman Walker;

I have reason to believe that this company is the same one that made the SQUIP pill, which had a lot of unfortunate consequences, and even put someone in the hospital. If you can explain these anomalies and your plans for your app I would be very happy.

Thank you;

A Concerned User

"That sucks," Jared immediately felt the need to say.

"I think it's good," Martha disagreed.

"The point is that it will work," Veronica told them both. "And if he doesn't reply, we can go to the police. I'm sure that they'll look into this."

"Doubtful," Jared hummed.

"Can I go now?" Michael asked.

"Just a minute!" Veronica told him. "Let's see if he replies. We can wait an hour, at least."

Michael didn't seem too happy with this plan, but he kept his mouth shut.

Veronica took one last look around the room, and then with a deep breath, clicked send. The email disappeared, and Veronica let out the breath she had been holding.

"And now we-"

Bing!!

The five stared in shock at the new message.
