Technical Difficulties

Michael was certain that this was not supposed to be what they were doing. For the last twenty minutes, the tech crew had been doing nothing but sitting around on their phones. The list of stuff they had to do was sitting on one of the speakers, completely forgotten. Ms Wormwood wouldn't be happy if she found out what they were doing. And Christine... Michael didn't want to think about the fact that she just might want to murder them all in cold blood.

Or cry... Michael really hoped she wouldn't cry. That'd be worse.

But, nobody else was doing anything, so it wasn't like he was going to either.

Michael had been completely correct. Ms Wormwood was not happy when she eventually showed up from checking on the actors. Yet she wasn't angry like Michael had thought she'd be. It was more of a kind of expectant disappointment, like she'd been expecting this to happen. Michael would have been offended if he could argue with it.

Thankfully, Christine did not show up.

"Alright," Ms Wormwood decided after chewing them out for another twenty minutes (racking up their wasted time to an impressive forty minutes). She directed their attention to a cardboard box. "From now on, everything you have will go in here. We only have a couple weeks to make this, and we cannot afford distractions. Everything into the box!"

After the appropriate amount of grumbling, the tech crew did as she asked. Michael didn't manage to get away with his headphones.

Ms Wormwood studied the list that she had left for them. "The most prevalent things we've got to do are music, backgrounds and props. We'll worry about lighting and costumes later."

"We lost forty minutes and we're already that behind?" Connor scoffed. "How-?"

"We were already on a time limit, Connor, and if we don't want to cut more things we have to start now. Who is able to do the music?"

"Why doesn't Michael do it?" Jake offered. "I mean, he always has those headphones on, right?"

Michael cringed. "Er... I don't know. The music I listen to... it's an... acquired taste."

"Yeah, all you listen to is Bob... something," Chloe spoke up.

"Bob Marley," Michael automatically corrected. "And that's not ALL I listen to!"

"Yep," Chloe said, unconvinced. "Considering I listen to more than ONE type of music, I'll take over the music. Michael can help if he wants though."

"Michael?" Ms Wormwood asked. Michael shrugged. Why not?

"Perfect," Ms Wormwood nodded to herself. "Now, props! There are a lot of them... a lot..."

Ms Wormwood squinted at the thick package of paper Christine had given her, and Michael couldn't help but think that he'd dodged a bullet.

Ms Wormwood's head snapped up again. "Who wants to work on props?"

"That's boring," Rich said immediately.

"I'll do it," Jake offered at the same time.

"Oh, yeah, me too!" Rich added. Ms Wormwood shook her head.

"Jake and Rich on props," she noted. "And lastly... backgrounds. There aren't many backgrounds, most of them just... maps? I guess we can print them out from google... who's taking that?"

Brooke put her hand up, looking sulky. She had wanted to work with Chloe, Michael guessed.

Ms Wormwood nodded. "And Connor?"

Connor's head snapped up from where he was hiding in the back. "Hm? What?"

"Do you want to work on music, props, or backgrounds?" Ms Wormwood asked, rather kindly. "Or do you not want to chose?"

Connor shrugged. "Force it upon me."

"Props then, Jake and Rich will need all the help they can get," Ms Wormwood checked the list again. "And Brooke, I'll help you with the backdrops."

Brooke nodded.

Ms Wormwood set the list down, and clapped her hands. "Alright, everyone!" she announced. "We have a lot to do, and not much time! Let's start, and go as fast as we can.

Of course, the tech crew didn't understand just how much work they had until they were through the first week and still had piles and piles of tasks to get through, with them just barely finishing their first ones.

Needless to say, after the first week, the tech crew really got working. In fact, they were almost surprised at how much they got done on a daily basis.

But that didn't mean that at the end of the day, they only just barely managed to pull together for opening day.

After three weeks, the tech crew was completely spent, barely able to be happy about all their hard work.

But the enormous smile Christine gave them when she saw it was pretty good compensation.
