Awakening

After a successful mission Antok and Regris were going back to the main Blade of Marmora headquarters; they had been on a planet to infiltrate an abandoned secret base that belonged to the empire and since no one else had been there they gathered all of the information. Antok, Regris' mentor, was happy that the young hybrid did well on the information gathering mission with the new device he built that could store an entire console's worth of information in it. It wasn't long before the two of them were seated in the small shuttle they came in so they could return to the main headquarters. Antok was grateful the base they went to had been abandoned seeing as sometimes Regris could be a little reckless, he didn't want to have to see the younger man get killed since he considered him his son. On the flight back to the main Marmoran headquarters they saw something on a large asteroid, something that looked like an escape pod.

"Antok, there's an escape pod over there." Regris said after squinting his eyes to get a better look, pointing to an escape pod that was lodged into a large asteroid.

"It could be a decoy." Antok reminded him, remembering the last time someone thought someone managed to escape the galra empire; it had been a decoy, of course, and the poor operative didn't realize a bomb had been placed in the escape pod until it was too late.

"Or someone could be trapped inside. I think we should check it out." Regris argued, wanting to check the pod out since seeing it made him feel funny, as though there was someone actually in it, which there was.

Antok sighed as he steered the ship to the asteroid and landed; before he and Regris went outside they had to activate their masks since neither of them could breathe out in space. Both Antok and Regris got out of the ship and floated over to the escape pod once they were ready, both of them hesitant to open it since they didn't know what they would find. When Regris opened the door with his blade he saw (Y/n) laying unconscious on the floor, although at the time he had no idea who she was. Since (Y/n) was asleep she didn't know what was happening nor did she know that she was being rescued. Antok was quick to get a mask on (Y/n) so that she couldn't breathe out in space either, he always kept a spare mask in the pouch attached to his belt in case of such emergencies.

Once the mask was secured and Regris picked (Y/n) up bridal style they quickly got her to their ship and sat down again, neither of them were expecting to find a human but they were glad that they stopped to rescue her. Antok started up the ship and started heading to the base again while Regris sat down and held (Y/n) on his lap, making sure she was at least in a comfortable position. Regris took the mask off of the young woman's face now that she was safe, although during the crash she'd gone unconscious in addition to the sleeping gas. He wasn't sure exactly what (Y/n) was because he'd never actually seen a human woman up close before, although Regris personally thought she looked very strange. He and Antok kept their masks on, just in case (Y/n) woke up at any point during their flight back home.

"She looks kind of like Keith and Shiro." Regris said after a while, briefly remembering the two humans who visited the main Marmoran headquarters a while back.

"I believe that she is human, just like the paladins. Ulaz will be able to confirm her species, he has the most experience with humans." Antok responded when he briefly looked at (Y/n); she looked like a human, but her hair was different from that of the paladins'.

Regris shrugged in confusion and looked down at the woman in his arms again, wondering who she was and how she got so far out in space inside of a galra empire escape pod. Her hair looked dirty and matted and her skin looked dirty as well, he wondered exactly what she'd been through before escaping wherever she escaped from. He was also curious as to what eye color her eyes were, the only humans he knew were the paladins and he really only knew Keith because he joined the Blades, and from his understanding humans came with several different eye colors. Until (Y/n) woke up Regris would be there to take care of her and even then he wanted to befriend her, he hoped that she would be okay since he wanted to actually meet her when she eventually woke up. However, until then he would continue holding the petite woman on his lap until he could get her to the infirmary.

_________

As her eyes fluttered open the light above her nearly made (Y/n) go blind; after arriving at the base Regris took (Y/n) to the infirmary where Ulaz could take care of her. (Y/n) blinked a few times, trying to adjust to the sudden bright lights of the room she had been laid in; an infirmary, based on her best guess. When her vision adjusted and she looked around the room she was in (Y/n) saw a galran man looking at a holopad, standing next to where she laid. The one thing (Y/n) noticed about him was his outfit, it was very different than the ones worn in the galra empire. (Y/n) tried to say something to get the man's attention, unfortunately her throat was too dry for her to speak.

"Here, drink this." Ulaz said as he turned his attention towards (Y/n) and gave her a cup of water when he noticed that she woke up.

(Y/n) nodded her head as a thank you and sat up so she could take the cup of water from him, grateful for the relief it brought to her incredibly dry throat. She sighed happily as she felt the cool water go down her throat when she drank, (Y/n) couldn't remember the last time she had anything to eat or drink. Once the cup was empty she put it on the tray that was next to the examination table someone laid her on. Ulaz instantly recognized that (Y/n) was a human as soon as Regris brought her into the infirmary, although he'd never seen a fully grown human woman up close until that point. While she slept on the examination table he took the opportunity to check her vitals, thankfully she didn't have anything majorly wrong with her, she was just a bit malnourished and she had a slight concussion.

"How are you feeling?" Ulaz asked (Y/n) after she drank her fill, speaking calmly so he didn't accidentally startle her.

"Tired and a little sore. Who are you? And where am I?" (Y/n) asked him in confusion, her gaze meeting his for a second; she wasn't sure if she could trust him or not, even though he hadn't made a move to harm her.

"I am Ulaz, the head physician in this base. You are at the main Blade of Marmora headquarters. One of our operatives, Regris, spotted your pod and saved you. He and Antok brought you here." Ulaz told (Y/n), giving her a brief explanation as to who he was, where she was and who saved her life.

"Oh… I'm (Y/n), by the way." (Y/n) responded awkwardly as she introduced herself, even though her throat still felt a little sore.

Ulaz nodded before he turned his attention  back to his previous task and typed something on his holopad, creating a file for the human he now knew as (Y/n). When Regris walked into the infirmary he was relieved to see that (Y/n) woke up, for a while he wondered if she was going to make it because she seemed to be in rough shape. (Y/n) looked at Regris when he approached her, not knowing what to say or if she should say anything at all; she didn't recognize him and he wore a full mask, unlike Ulaz who's whole face was showing. Usually Ulaz didn't wear his medical mask during examinations unless the person he was examining secreted something potentially dangerous, thankfully humans didn't have the biology to do so. Regris wore his mask because of what he'd been through in the past, he wasn't comfortable showing (Y/n) what he looked like since she was a stranger.

"Is she going to be alright?" Regris asked Ulaz with concern, turning his gaze to the good doctor.

"She's a little malnourished and dehydrated,  and she has a slight concussion, but she will live." Ulaz told Regris, giving the good news about (Y/n's) condition; she could have been a lot worse off, luckily she wasn't badly injured or anything.

"Hello there, I'm Regris. I'm glad to see that you're awake." Regris said when he looked at (Y/n), introducing himself as he gazed at her; he hoped that she wouldn't be scared of him since he chose not to show his face, he knew that the Marmoran masks could sometimes be intimidating to those who weren't used to seeing them.

"H- hi, I'm (Y/n). Thank you for rescuing me." (Y/n) responded shyly, smiling at the man who saved her; she couldn't deny he sounded handsome despite the mask being in the way, she just wished that she could see his face.

"It was no problem." Regris kindly assured her, blushing a little behind his mask when he saw her gazing up at him with her beautiful (E/c) eyes.

Ulaz smiled a little while he watched Regris and (Y/n) interact with each other, knowing that they were going to get along just fine. He quickly got a few things from around the infirmary so that he could give (Y/n) a checkup, scanning her vitals wouldn't be enough for him to make sure she didn't have any other issues going on, sometimes a good old fashioned checkup was necessary. Kolivan already knew about (Y/n) and he approved of her remaining in the base, as long as she did something to earn her keep. Neither Ulaz nor Regris knew exactly what she had been through and if anything during the checkup made (Y/n) uncomfortable then he would immediately stop, Ulaz wanted her to be able to trust him as her new primary physician. Regris would remain in the infirmary so he could take (Y/n) to her new habsuite; he prepared it just for her and he wanted to earn her trust as well, perhaps even become friends with her.
