Chapter 9
A few days have passed. Things have been kinda dull for me. I mean, yes I would hang out with Gonta just about everyday, but that was about it. But, on the plus side, no one is dead, so the killing game has started yet.
But it also hasn't ended.
Okay, truth is, I would do thorough investigations of the academy every day. Then I would write them in my note book, which I may or may not have stolen from the Ultimate Detective's room.
Sadly, I haven't had too many new foundings. Mostly just the same stuff I found in the first time line. However, I have been keeping note of all my classmates, such as their strengths and weaknesses. In fact, that's what I'm currently doing right now.
"Korekiyo Shinguji. The Ultimate Anthropologist. Strengths: cunning, perceptive, and has thorough cultural knowledge. Weaknesses-" I tapped my pen against my knee, thinking over his weaknesses.
"Weaknesses: is a serial killer, believes is possessed by dead sister, and over all has crazy moments." I blinked.
"Why the hell haven't we locked this guy up somewhere?" I thought aloud. Well, he hasn't made any dangerous moves....yet. Guess I'll just keep my eye on him for now.
"Kokichi!" I heard outside my door. I chuckled and closed my book, stuffing it under my bed, then went to open the door.
"Hey Gonta." I said.
"What we do today?" Gonta asked. I shrugged.
"How about we play some games in the game room?" I asked. "Okay, let's go!" He said excitedly. I let him lead me out of the dorms room and towards the basement. Once at the bottom, we made our way to the game room.
"Come! Lots of games in here!" Gonta said. I nodded as he pushed open the door.....but that's when we saw something strange.
Kaede, Himiko, Tenko, and Angie....surrounding a table, where Rantaro sat. He was holding Kaede's hand....painting her nails?
"Am I next?" Himiko asked. "No, Atua says that his most faithful servant shall be next, and that's me!" Angie stated.
"Don't be rude! Himiko was here before you!" Tenko stated. Rantaro chuckled.
"Chill out, every can get a turn if you want." Rantaro replied.
"What's with the sudden chick flick playing in here?" I asked, announcing my presence. The girls and Rantaro looked at me. "Oh, hey Kokichi. Gonta. What are you guys doing here?" Kaede asked.
"Well, we were gonna play some games, since this is the game room. Buuuut I'm much more curious why you ladies are flocking around Rantaro." I replied. Gonta tilted his head.
"Rantaro painting Kaede's nails?" He asked.
"Oh yeah, he offered to paint our nails, since he has a lot of experience." Kaede replied.
"You have experience? But, Rantaro is boy, yes?" Gonta said. "Well, when you have twelve sisters, you tend to pick up a few things about girls." Rantaro replied.
"Yeah, you sure this isn't a bother to you? I mean, I can't imagine this is fun for you." Tenko said.
"Relax, I don't mind at all." Rantaro replied smoothly. He took one last look at Kaede's nails, then nodded in satisfaction. "There, all done!" He stated. Kaede examined her nails, her eyes shining bright.
"Oh my God! They look so cute! I can't even recognize them as my own!" Kaede stated.
"Glad you like them. Himiko, you wanna go next?" Rantaro asked. Himiko nodded and sat down.
"Hmm, Gonta not realize how good Rantaro is with girls." Gonta said. I nodded in agreement, turning my attention else where....and saw something unexpected.
It was Tsumugi, sitting alone in the corner.
She was so quiet, I didn't even notice she was here. Tsumugi was reading a book, and appeared to be glaring daggers at the other girls. However when she saw I was looking at her, she snapped her gaze back to the book.
"If I had to guess, someone is feeling envious." I thought.
* * * *
Gonta and I never did play any games, but instead watched a movie in the back room. After it was over, we both grew bored and decided to head to one of the higher floors for some exploring. However, I took the chance to do some investigating.
"What a strange hallway." Gonta said, looking at two large statues of Monokuma. One was more like an angel, the other more like a devil.
"He certainly has interesting taste." I said, resting my hands behind my neck. We wandered around, chatting a bit more.
"Think Monokuma build this himself?" Gonta asked.
"What, the academy? With those Exisals, definitely." I stated. "But why he build such bizarre building?" Gonta asked. "I'm afraid that's only a question for you to ask Monokuma." I replied.
"Not true, you could ask me." Gonta and I blinked, caught off by the unfamiliar voice. Then we looked down....seeing Monophanie standing between us.
Gonta yelped, jumping back. "H-How you get here?!"
"Sorry, I just wanted to go for a walk. I was bored." Monophanie replied. "Is that really the best lie you can come up with?" I said.
"It's not a lie you bastard!" Monophanie stated.
"Uh huh, and if we were to ask you out question, how do we know you won't lie?" I asked. Monophanie crossed her tiny arms and huffed, turning her snout up.
"Hmph, boys are so rude! Fine, if you don't believe me, you can ask her instead!" She stated, pointing to a door. I looked at the door curiously, then looked at Gonta. We both walked towards the door and entered.
It turned out to be the Ultimate Cosplayer lab, with multiple outfits, a dressing room, some stages, and even a small bar. To my surprise, Tsumugi was sitting at that bar, drinking a cocktail.
"Tsumugi?" I said. She looked over at us, the depressed expression disappearing.
"Oh! Hi guys." She said. Gonta's eyes widened, and he rushed to Tsumugi's side.
"AAAAH! What Tsumugi drinking?! Tsumugi too young to drink alcohol! Alcohol very bad!" Gonta exclaimed. Tsumugi blinked, looked to her drink, then giggled.
"No no Gonta. There's no alcohol in this. It's just a cocktail I made." She assured him. Gonta blinked before sighing in relief.
"Thank goodness." He said. I looked around the lab, seeing all the costumes. I've never seen Tsumugi's lab before. It's a lot bigger then I expected.
"So this is your lab, Tsumugi?" I said.
"Yep, my wonderland." Tsumugi replied, however her tone was totally un-enthusiatic. She drank the rest of her cocktail, then pushed the glass away.
"Why is Monophanie with you?" She asked.
"No idea." I said.
"Well I'm sorry if I wanted to see the Ultimate Cosplayer's lab!" Monophanie whined. Gonta began to examine all the costumes, just like I was.
"Gonta like the costumes. They very nice." He said. Tsumugi looked at him in surprise, blushing. "Oh uh, thank you. I made them myself." she said.
"Tsumugi make these?! Tsumugi do amazing job!" Gonta stated.
"No no, they aren't anything special." She insisted. "Seriously? Tsumugi, these outfits are fantastic! You should be proud! Not everyone can make such fine pieces of clothing!" Monophanie stated, looking at a particular dress.
"Yeah, especially when it's something like....that!" I gasped, running over to a particular costume.
It was a dark, ominous costume, like for a villain. Consisting of a dark suit, a black cape, a black top hat, and a white mask that has a wide grin.
"Is this what I think it is....?" I said.
"That's my phantom thief costume. It isn't from a specific character, just something I whipped up." Tsumugi explained. I swear my eyes were sparkling like an anime character.
"Holy shit- I'm trying this on!" I snatched the costume off the mannequin and dashed to the dressing room.
"Huh?! Hey wait!" Tsumugi said. I didn't listen though. In a flash I was wearing the costume, and stepped out of the dressing room, doing a pose.
"How do I look?" I asked.
"Kokichi look great! Look like real phantom thief!" Gonta stated.
"So cool!" Monophanie stated. Tsumugi looked away, obviously trying to hide her joy. "Well, I'm glad you like it...."
"Like it? Please! I love it! This tooootally screams Kokichi Oma! You should show these costumes off more often!" I stated. Tsumugi frowned, looking at the floor.
"No....that's probably not a good idea." She murmured.
"Huh? Why ever not?" Monophanie asked, sitting on the stool next to Tsumugi. "I don't wanna bother anyone. Besides, everyone else would probably hate my outfits...." She said. I placed a hand under my chin, thinking. Then I grabbed Gonta and pulled him down to my level, whispering in his ear.
"Hm? Kokichi want Gonta to do that?" He asked, and I nodded.
"Right, then Gonta be right back!" He stated, leaving the lab. I went to Tsumugi and sat next to her, while Monophanie sat on the other side.
"You want a cocktail? I can make you one." Tsumugi said.
"Yes please." I said. Tsumugi walked around to the other side of the bar and began to make the cocktail. While I waited, I took my mask off and rested my cheek on my palm.
"So, what's got you so down today?" I asked. Tsumugi froze, looking at me surprised before putting on a fake smile.
"What do you mean? I'm just fine-"
"Tsumugi, it's obvious something is bothering you. So please tell us what's wrong." Monophanie said. Tsumugi looked hesitant to tell us, but sighed.
"That obvious huh....?" She murmured.
"Would it have anything to do with the girls spending time with Rantaro?" I asked. Tsumugi was silent for a moment before nodding.
"You know, I'm sure he would've painted your nails too if you had asked." I said. The Ultimate Cosplayer chuckled sadly before shaking her head.
"That wasn't the problem...." She said. Monophanie placed her paws on her face, leaning over the counter.
"Oh no, I know that face. That's the face of a broken heart. I bet your in love with Rantaro, aren't you?" She said. This time Tsumugi stopped what she was doing all together, her back facing us. I tilted my head.
"Tsumugi?"
" ....ironic isn't it? For me to like Rantaro....the person I was supposed to kill. But, that's why I don't deserve to be close with him. Or with anyone... " the girl poured our drinks into glasses before turning to give them to us, her face just screaming despair.
"I shouldn't have friends. I shouldn't have a lover. I'm the mastermind, right? I should burn in hell." She said, handing the glasses to us.
"But everyone forgave you, Tsumugi. You don't have to be so hard on yourself." Monophanie stated.
"But it's true....I'm a bad person," Tsumugi stated, hugging herself slightly, "I-"
"Okay, I'm gonna have to stop you there." I stated. Tsumugi looked at me surprised, eyes wide.
"What?"
"Look, would a truly bad person call themselves bad? Would they beat themselves up so much? Trust me, you're not a bad person. So stop lying to yourself." I stated.
"B-But I-"
"Trust me, I know a bad person when I see one." I stated, taking a sip of my cocktail, which may I add tasted delicious.
That's right....because I am a bad person.
Tsumugi was left speechless, playing with a strand of hair. I drank the rest of my cocktail and smiled.
"Relax, you know what you need. You need a little fun right now. That'll work ya up." I stated. Tsumugi gave me a confused expression and opened her mouth to speak, but the door opened.
"Okay! Gonta brought everyone!"
