Chapter 8

"Huh? Watch them....together?" Tenko asked. I gave a firm nod.

"Right. Because like Kaito and Keebo said, they could be dangerous. However, if we watch them together, we'll have each other's support to prevent any....deadly thoughts. How does that sound?" I asked. Everyone looked at each other hesitantly, seeming unsure of my proposal.

"And what if someone got killed as a result of your idea?" Kiyo asked, with slight threat behind his words.

"Then you can blame me. I'm fine with that." I stated. People blamed me for a lot of things before....

"I like that idea." Kaede stated. We all looked to her, who wore a smile. "I might actually feel better, watching this with my friends." She said.

"Nyeh, me too. I'm worried what's on my video, but I wanna see it. So if I watch with everyone, I'll feel better." Himiko replied. Eventually, everyone began to agree with my plan.

"So then, it's decided." I said. Maki looked away, her gaze moving to the door.

"Maki," she looked at Kaito, who smiled at her, "nobody is gonna make you, but it would be nice if you stayed. You know, so you won't feel alone." he said. Maki narrowed her eyes at the Ultimate Astronaut. Then she sighed.

"Fine, I'll stay." She said.

"Great! Now everyone exchange videos and let's sit at the table." I said. Everyone did as I said.

We made sure each video went to their proper owner before sitting at the table. We decided two people at a time would watch a video, since if all sixteen of us did so, it would be an emotional mess. Even though it was my idea, I was worried about this. But if we don't do this, Kirumi would watch her video alone....and well, we all know what she does.

To my surprise, it ran pretty smoothly. A lot of us got scared, got angry, and/or even cried. However, with the rest of us here to support them, they would feel better.

Now we were down to our last two: Ryoma and Kirumi.

The maid and tennis player looked to each other anxiously, took a deep breath, and played their videos. The rest of us watched for a couple, surprisingly tense moments.

When the videos were over....Kirumi's face was as pale as a ghost. Ryoma gave her a concerned expression.

"Kirumi....are you okay?" He asked. A shadow cast over Kirumi's eyes, and she pushed the Kubs pad away. She placed a hand on her head, trembling.

"M-My....my people....what has happened to them?" She said in a shaky voice. Ryoma frowned, placing a hand on her shoulder.

Kaito growled and stood up, punching into his fist. "I bet they're fine!" He stated. Everyone looked at him surprised. "Kaito?" Shuichi said. "I bet everyone is fine! Everyone in these videos are fine! In fact, I bet they're all fake videos! Yeah, that's gotta be it!" Kaito stated.

"But, what makes you so sure?" Himiko asked.

"I just do, alright! I want to believe that everyone is okay! So that's what I'm gonna do!" Kaito stated. He gave a wide smile to everyone.

"And you should all do the same thing!" He said. To my surprise, everyone agreed....but Kirumi was still nervous.

After we watched the videos, we had our breakfast. Afterwards, everyone left the dining hall except for me, Gonta, Ryoma, and Kirumi.

Kirumi's face was still pale as she slowly picked up the dishes with shaking hands. I've never seen her quite like this before.

"Kirumi. You okay?" Ryoma asked, looking at her with concerned eyes.

" ..... " she didn't answer as she began to walk to the kitchen. Ryoma sighed, rubbing his forehead. Gonta frowned.

"Will Kirumi be okay?" He asked. "Honestly, I don't know. I mean, she is the prime minister. It's only natural for her to worry about her people." Ryoma said.

"Unless what Kaito said is true." I said. Both of them looked to me.

"Tsumugi told us, remember? Our past and identities are fake. So that doesn't mean she's really the prime minister. In fact, maybe all those loved ones in the videos don't even exist." I said.

"Then why did you suggest we watch the videos in the first place?" Ryoma asked.

"....cause everyone needed to watch them. I could tell." I stated. That was only half the truth. The other being because Kirumi would've suffered through this alone....and would have participated in the killing game.

"How Kokichi know past and identities are fake?" Gonta asked. "Come on Gonta, use your head. Tsumugi told us, remember?" I said.

"But....Gonta no think they're fake! Gonta is Gonta! That not change!" He stated.

"And I'm assuming you have proof of this?" I said.

"No. Just belief!" Gonta stated with a smile. I face palmed. "Congrats Kaito, you're belief is running off." I muttered.

"In any case," Ryoma said, returning us to the topic, "despite what we think, it would seem Kirumi still believes she is the prime minister. And even if she thought it was fake, she's still gonna worry about those people. That's the kind of person she is." I nodded.

"Guess you have a point." I replied. There was a sudden crash in the kitchen, making us jump.

"Kirumi!" Gonta cried. Ryoma bolted into the kitchen, and we followed him. When we entered, there were a few shattered plates on the ground. Kirumi stood by, eyes wide.

"Kirumi," Ryoma hurried to her, placing a hand on her arm, "you okay?"

"....apologies. I-I was careless." Kirumi stuttered. She practically collapsed onto her knees, picking up the remains of the broken plates.

"I shall pick this up." She said. "Kirumi...." Ryoma said. I frowned, letting out a sigh. I don't like Kirumi like this. She normally has a gentle aura, like a mother. But now she's so...broken.

Gonta suddenly walked in, holding a pile of dirty dishes, which surprised me. "Gonta?" I didn't even see him leave the room. Kirumi looked up, and her eyes widened.

"Gonta, there's no need to-"

"No. Gonta help clean up. Gentlemen always help." Gonta stated. He placed the dishes in the sink and began to clean them. Ryoma smiled, then picked up the broken plates on the ground.

"Ryoma, you don't-" Kirumi said.

"Come on, let us help." Ryoma said. He took the broken pieces and threw them out. Kirumi looked at them surprised, then smiled.

"Thank you. Your help is much appreciated." She said. Gonta smiled widely. "So Kirumi be happy now?" He asked. The Ultimate Maid frowned, looking away and placing a hand on her cheek.

"Well...I don't know. I'm afraid I just....can't stop thinking about the video." She admitted. I placed a hand under my chin.

"Hmm....aha!" I said, catching everyone's attention, "Can't stop thinking about it huh? Poor Kirumi, what you need is a good ol' distraction! And I have the perfect one!"

*    *    *    *

"This is Kokichi's lab?" Gonta asked as I set up the TV. He, Kirumi, and Ryoma looked around in wonder.

"Badass isn't it? I'm really glad Monokuma opened all the floors." I said.

"Just too bad I didn't see this in the first time line...." I thought. The memory of me laying on the hydraulic press came to me. I remember staring at the machine in Kaito's coat, waiting for it to be over. It wasn't painful, thankfully....

"So why did you bring us here?" Kirumi asked.

"There's a TV in this room, and I found a whole box of video games too. Like I said, you need a distraction," I turned to look at her, "and video games are the perfect distraction!"

"I don't know. I have never played a video game before." Kirumi said. My jaw dropped to the floor.

"SHUT UP! You've never played a video game before?!" I exclaimed. Gonta looked away, adjusting his glasses.

"Gonta....never play video games either." He said. "Can't say I have either. I've never been interested." Ryoma said, shrugging it off like it was nothing.

".....okay we have got to get you losers playing right now!" I stated.

I finally got the game set up, and shoved a controller in their hands. They watched as I plopped onto the floor, crossing my legs. I gestured for them to do the same. They looked to each other then sat on the floor.

"Are you sure about this?" Kirumi asked. "Trust me, you guys will have a blast! And I picked an easy game, so you'll learn quick." I replied.

"What all these buttons do?" Gonta asked. I chuckled.

"Don't worry. I'll show you."

*    *    *    *

"I gonna beat you this time! Just you watch!"

"No, Gonta win this time!"

"Ha! Try if you can!"

"I do hope you're all prepared for a smack down! "

I loved this sound. The sound of fierce players competing in a video game. Oh, did I mention we've been playing for three hours straight? Yeah, the others picked up on how to play real quick. This was our fourth game now, a fighting game...

And Gonta and Ryoma just lost.

"NOOOOOO!!! WE LOST!" both of them screamed, falling back onto the floor. Now it was just Kirumi and I. She and I shot each other fierce glares.

"Any last words?" She asked. I smirked.

"Don't go easy on me." She smirked. "Very well."

We returned our attention back to the game, frantically pushing button combinations. My brows furrowed as I kept my eyes locked onto the screen.

"Just a little more...." I muttered. Kirumi knew she was losing, I could tell. I smirked, pressing the combination to deliver the final blow....

Except I pressed the wrong button, which left my character vulnerable for a full second.

"Shit! Miss click!"

That one second was all that Kirumi needed to deliver her final blow with a combo. My mouth gaped open as the victory screen popped up.

"I.....lost? NO! I lost!" I whined, fake tears spilling from my eyes. Kirumi giggled and rolled her eyes.

"Do refrain from the fake tears. It's unsportman like." She said. I put on a smile, the tears vanishing like magic.

"That's true. But wow, Kirumi! You're really good! I thought you didn't know how to play video games?" I said. "I didn't know. I'm just as surprised as you are." She admitted.

"What we play next?!" Gonta asked eagerly.

"Oh yeah, let's see what we've got." I said, digging through the box. Kirumi smiled, standing up and brushing her skirt off.

"While I have thoroughly enjoyed this experience, I believe I should stop for now." She said.

"Awwww do you have to?" I whined.

"I must make sure I have the correct ingredients for dinner. Then I might read a book." She said, walking towards the door. She paused however, and looked back at us.

"But before I leave, I wanted to say thank you. I feel much more like myself, and am ready to serve again. Thank you, all three of you." she said. I looked at her surprised, taken aback. Then I looked away, scratching the back of my head.

"Uh yeah, whatevs. I just wanted you back to your old self, that's all." I replied. Kirumi nodded and left the lab. Ryoma stood up as well.

"Think I'm gonna head out too." He said.

"Bye Ryoma." Gonta said. Ryoma nodded to him, then he looked to me.

"Kokichi. Not sure if you could tell, but what you did for Kirumi....that was really cool of you." He stated. My eyes widened at his words. He smiled, then left the lab. I was dumbfounded.

"I didn't do anything that big. So then, why did they both look so....grateful?" I thought.

"Kokichi," I looked to Gonta, who gave me a pleading look, "we play another game?" I blinked, then I smiled.

"Sure, why not?"
