Chapter 40

Everything had changed, and before we all knew it....we were in the auditorium of Hope's Peak High School. I was still very surprised. Here we were....at the actual academy where it all began.

"Whoa, we're....we're really here?" Himiko said. "This is kinda freaky. It looks exactly like Hope's Peak." Kaito stated. Course, as we thought, all the windows and exits were boarded up in iron plates and such.

"Pufufufu, I told you it would be like a simulation. Please, take some time to enjoy your tour of this academy!" Monokuma stated. "Now hold on, there's supposed to be a body around here, right? Where would it be?" Kaede asked. "Now where's the fun in that? No, you wanted to solve a murder case, you're gonna go through the book. And phase one is always the body discovery." Monokuma stated.

"In other words, we need to find the body ourselves." Rantaro stated.

"Yep! Make sure you pay key attention to every detail in this place. It will help you. Now however, there is only one thing I will give you that will help you with your case." Monokuma replied, snapping his little paws, if that was even possible. Suddenly, small little phones appeared in our hands, making me blink.

"What the...." I murmured.

"These are your digital notebooks. They will share information on the participants of the killing games. Not everything, but just enough." Monokuma replied. He turned around and began to walk away. "I'll see ya kids later. Good luck! You're gonna need it!" Monokuma replied, than he disappeared. I nodded, and turned to the others.

"Okay, let's take a second to review who participated in this game." I said. We each turned on our digital notebooks, looking through them. "I guess each notebook only hold info on one student. Cause I have someone named Kyoko Kirigiri." Shuichi replied. I looked through the profile I had. I apparently had someone named Byakuya Togami.

"Okay, well I guess we should find the body, and who the victim is. That's what we gotta do right?" Miu asked.

"We should spread out and search the entire academy. If you find stairs, keep track of how many floors you go up." I said. "Huh? Why does that matter?" Kiibo asked. "Remember for us, more and more floors were opened up to us as more cases were solved. If we see how many floors are available, and we can take a guess on when this murder took place, as well as how many survivors there were at this point." I replied. Everyone nodded.

So, we all split up. Shuichi and Gonta decided to walk with me, deciding to see if there are other floors on this place. We managed to get to the second floor, which didn't seem to out of the ordinary. "Should we search this floor?" Gonta asked.

"No....not yet. I want to see how many floors we can go up. Then when we reach the top one, we'll come back down and examine each floor in detail." I replied. "That seems like a good idea. Look, there's another set of stairs over there." Shuichi said, pointing to one nearby.

The three of us went up to the third floor. Then to the fourth. And finally, to the fifth. I was shocked we managed to get this far. "Wow, if we got this far....that means a lot of people must've died at this point I said." I thought aloud. "Which also means less suspects." Shuichi replied. "It is gonna be a bitch to figure out who survived this far into the killing game. It can't be more than maybe five or six people." I said.

"I wonder if it say so in digital notebooks?" Gonta said. "Actually, that's not a bad idea. Worth a shot." I replied. I turned on my notebook and took a look. As much as I read through about Togami though, it didn't say anything about if he had died, or which cases he took place in.

"Dammit, nothing...." I muttered. I sighed, placing a hand on my forehead. I was honestly stressed and scared as hell. How the fuck were we gonna figure this out? Even if we find the body, there isn't any way to tell who survived this far or not. So how will we be able to narrow down our suspects?

"Kokichi." I perked up, looking to Shuichi. "Sorry, I just....I really hope we're able to figure this out." I replied. Shuichi smiled.

"Don't worry. You've got us to back you up. So don't be worried." he stated. I smiled. That's right. I'm not alone. I have others I can rely on. "Come on, Gonta want to look down here." he said, walking down the hallway.

"Whoa Gonta, wait up." I called. "There's a Green Room! Come see!" he called. Shuichi and I sighed and ran down the hallway to follow him. However....my eyes widened as I heard Gonta scream. I bolted down the hallway, with Shuichi right behind me. We rushed inside the room....and saw what had made Gonta scream.

"W-W-Who is that?!" Gonta stuttered, pointing at the corpse with a shaking hand. "I-I don't know. I can't tell with that mask on their face." Shuichi said. I slowly approached the corpse, kneeling down at it. Judging by the figure, it was at least definitely a girl.

"Gonta, can you get everyone to come to the Garden Room? And hurry." I said. Gonta nodded, and ran out of the room. I placed a hand on my chin. We could easily see who the victim was if we just took off the mask. But....something seemed off about it. I didn't want to touch it unless we had to.

It was only about five minutes before Gonta had gathered everyone into the room. Everyone stared at the body in shock, unsure of what to do. "Who....who is that?" Tsumugi asked. "I don't know, but the figure seems to be a girl. Her hands even have nail polish on them." I replied.

"What are we waiting for?! Let's take off the mask and see who it is!" Kaito stated, about to walk straight towards it. I quickly grabbed his arm and pulled him back.

"No no no no, trust me, I already thought of that. But something feels way too off about this." I stated. "What do you mean?" Kaito asked. "Well look at where it is, and how it's presented. Just out in the open, for everyone to see? Not to mention the corpse is in a room of high interest, I mean, who wouldn't want to check out a Garden Room? This place is beautiful. Maybe I'm overthinking it, but I think the culprit decided to plant the corpse here." I stated.

"What? But what would prompt them to do that?" Ryoma asked. "I can't say for sure, but Kokichi has a strong point. The way this is just conveniently placed here. Even the way the coat is draped over her body. She's not even wearing it." Shuichi stated.

"But then, why is the coat even on her?" Tenko asked. Kiibo narrowed his eyes, and knelt down, looking intently at the corpse's face from a distance. "....I think I do see something under that mask." he said.

"Huh? You see her face?!" Miu replied. "Unfortunately, no. But I do see something....I think it's a small explosive." he said.

"What?! You don't mean a b-b-bomb?!" Himiko cried. "I mean exactly that. It most likely would've detonated the moment that mask is removed. No normal human eye could see it, but my high vision is precise for seeing closely, and detecting unnatural electronic devices." Kiibo stated.

"So then, if I had taken that off her head...." Kaito said.

"You would've been blown to smithereens." Korekiyo stated. Kaito shuddered. I approached the corpse and knelt down. "Is it safe to take off the coat that's on her?" I asked.

"It should be. But is it a good idea to tamper with the crime scene?" Kiibo asked. "I just wanna lift the coat a little and see her outfit. It might give us an idea of who she is." I said. I carefully took the hem of the coat and lifted it up, and I gasped....

This girl was definitely wearing the same outfit as Junko Enoshima.

I could hear many gasps behind me. "What?! No, hold on. That can't seriously be her, can it?" Maki asked. "Yeah....Junko Enoshima was the mastermind of this whole game, wasn't she? This wasn't how she died, right?" Kirumi asked. "Yeah, she definitely was....she had killed herself by being smashed in one of her punishments. She wasn't murdered. So then..." I murmured.

"Mukuro Ikusaba," we all looked to Tsumugi, who gave us all a serious expression, like she knew exactly what was going on, "that was her twin sister. I remember, they switched places, cause she was the mastermind. But Junko had betrayed her, and killed her off really early on in the game." she explained.

"So then, this might be Mukuro still in disguise?" Kaede said. "Except, if this is Mukuro, and she died much earlier on, why is her body here? Especially so late in the killing game?" Angie said, looking at the body curiously.

"I don't know. If Mukuro was in disguise, and Junko was hiding, then that means there were fifteen participants. I wonder....what other clues could we find in this place?" Shuichi said.

"Let's search this whole room. That'll be a good start at least." I stated.

"....there was a room I saw down the hallway. If you don't mind, I'd like to investigate it." Korekiyo asked. I nodded. "Sure, just make sure someone goes with you. It's not a good idea for anyone to be alone right now." I replied. Kiyo nodded, and looked to Maki. "Do you mind accompanying me?" he asked.

"Sure, let's go." she said, and they both left the room. Meanwhile, we all began to search around the Green Room. But we didn't see anything significant or important. In the end, we all sighed.

"Well so much for that." Ryoma said. "This stinks. We still don't even know who our suspects could be." Tenko said. "This is harder than I thought it'd be..." Himiko said. I narrowed my eyes. We're getting a little closer, but it's still not enough. We can't say for sure the victim is actually Mukuro. And we don't have any suspects yet. What the hell do we do now? We know nothing about this place or the participants except for Mukuro and Junko.

"Kokichi, you okay?" Kaede asked. I paused, just now realizing I was biting my thumb. I quickly pulled it away and looked away.

"Not really...." Kaito placed a hand on my shoulder and gave me a big smile. "Hey, don't worry bout this. We've been through way worse than this, right? Plus we're all together, so there's no way we can fail." he stated. I looked at him surprised.

"We'll be okay. We're gonna get through this." Kaito stated. I smiled at him, and nodded. He really knows how to convince someone to keep hope. It's incredible, really.

"Hey guys," we all looked to the door, seeing Korekiyo and Maki standing there, "I believe we found something."
