Chapter 4
I woke up around seven thirty and made my way to the cafeteria. When I got there, everyone but Kaede and Shuichi was gathered there. The moment I stepped inside all attention was on me. Their glares made me feel uneasy.
"Guess they aren't happy about yesterday...." I thought.
I decided to ignore the uneasy feeling and put on a smile. "Awww, everyone still mad at me? Come on, don't be like that!" I said with slight mock in my tone.
"Morning Kokichi! Did you sleep well?" Gonta asked in a friendly manner, wearing a wide smile. I looked at him in surprise. He isn't gonna be mad, like the others?
"Uh, I slept alright. Thanks." I said, feeling slightly awkward.
"Why are you being nice to a degenerate make like him who makes girls cry?!" Tenko snapped, pointing at me. "Indeed, Atua believes he should be punished rather than praised!" Angie added in a cheery tone.
"Gonta no like what Kokichi did, but he think that holding grudges won't make things better." Gonta said. Everyone looked at him in shock, then looked away, as if thinking over his words.
"Guess that's true. Fighting each other isn't going to help." Ryoma said. For the most part everyone shook their heads in agreement, while I stood there dumbfounded.
"Okay, that happened."
I started to approach the table covered in food, which has been driving me crazy for awhile now. "With that outta the way, why don't we eat?"
"We can't eat yet. We have to wait." Kaito stated. I looked at him in confusion.
"Hmm? Why noooot?" I whined. "We are waiting for Kaede and Shuichi, so that we may eat together." Kirumi replied. As if on cue, the door opened, and Shuichi and Kaede entered the room.
"Hey, there you are! Good morning!" Kaito called. Shuichi put on a small smile and waved. "Yeah, good morning." He said. Kaede was silent, keeping her gaze anywhere but on us. I felt a frown form on my face. She looks from yesterday....more depressed. I couldn't see her hopeful aura like I did before. Gonta seemed to notice, and tried to get her to speak.
"What about Kaede? You sleep good?" He asked. Kaede gave a quick glance at him before just giving a small nod. She looked almost timid, as if one word would make us snap.
"Could Kokichi apologize to Kaede tomorrow? Even if you don't mean it, I'm sure it make Kaede smile."
I thought long and hard about Gonta's request, and had ultimately decided I wasn't going to. But, seeing Kaede like this....
"I'm gonna do it, aren't I?" I thought.
I sighed, taking a step towards Kaede. She looked at me surprised, while Kaito looked ready to protect her, like I was about to hurt her.
"Kaede look, I wanted to tell you something. I...I'm sorry, alright." I said. The girl's eyes widened. Everyone stated at me in shock.
"W-What the- did he apologize?!" Tenko said.
"He did. I have it recorded if you want to hear." Keebo stated. "We're not deaf, dumbass! We all heard him just fine!" Miu snapped. I cleared my throat.
" Anyway, I was too harsh on you yesterday. I said some things, and I hurt ya. I was just mad, okay? I didn't mean to lash out like that. So.....I'm sorry."
Kaede stared for a moment, like she was in a dream....but then she smiled sadly.
"Thank you, Kokichi. But, it's not your fault. You were right, I didn't think of how anyone else felt. I was selfish. Sorry...."
"Don't say that. Kaede, you are not selfish! You care about others more than yourself! So don't say that!" Shuichi stated. Kaede looked at him in surprise.
"Shuichi..."
"Yeah, don't worry! We'll get outta here! All of us!" Kaito stated. Everyone started to chime in their own encouragement and support, making Kaede more happy.
While they did, I watched silently, looking away. There was one thing I am deciding, here and now....
That is the last time I tell someone how I truly feel. From now on, I gotta do what I did before.....keep on my mask of lies, and never take it off.

After breakfast, I immediately began to search for him. He had practically vanished into thin air after he finished eating. Where did he go?
"Kokichi!" Oh, he's following me again.
"Gonta! Hey buddy! What's up?" I asked as he approached me. Gonta put on a big smile.
"Gonta wanted to say thank you, for apologizing to Kaede." He said. If course he would thank me for that. It wasn't that big of a deal.
"Whatever. No biggie I guess," I said, but a smirk played on my lips at the thought of an idea, "although, since I did something for you, now you owe me a favor." I stated. Gonta looked at me surprised.
"Huh? Kokichi want Gonta to do a favor?" He asked.
"Course I do. Unless, you decide to decline. But that wouldn't be very nice. And gentlemen are very nice...." I said sadly, looking away with sad eyes. I
"N-No, Gonta more than happy to help! What Kokichi need? Gonta will do it!" He stated. He is such a naive boy, part of his charm I guess.
"Its not hard. I just need you to help me find someone, and bring them to the library so we can chat." I said. Gonta tilted his head. "Who you talk to?"
"Rantaro."
* * * *
I hummed as I skipped happily down to the basement, pushing open the library doors. Guess I just need to wait down here for Gonta and Rantaro. Upon entering the library, I saw Shuichi and Kaede in the corner, seeming to be having a discussion.
"Oooh now what do we have here?" Both jumped at my voice, looking to me.
"K-Kokichi!" Shuichi said.
"Hiya. What'cha talking about? All alone in secret in the library? Veeery suspicious~" I said. They both looked away, seeming nervous.
"Just, uh, looking around. That's all." Kaede said with a smile. I wasn't dumb. I knew what they were doing. Probably discussing their plan to capture the mastermind, like in the first time line. But I don't see any cameras, so they must set them up tomorrow.
"Oh I see what's going on~" I said. Both of them looked at each other fearfully, then back at me.
"Y-You do?" Shuichi asked.
"Nee-heehee sure! You guys were getting on each other! I'll bet Kaede was ready to give you a flash of her tits, wasn't she Shuichi?" I asked. This made both of them flushed a bright red, making me laugh.
"N-No! That's not it! You got it all wrong!" Shuichi stated while Kaede squeaked and his her face in her hands.
"Oh wait, was she gonna show you the goods at the lower level?" I asked, placing a hand on his chin.
"Kokichi!" They both yelled in embarrassment.
"Nee-heehee relax you guys! I'm kidding! Geez, take a joke!" I said. Too embarrassed to reply, they both briskly left through the back entrance.
"Good, that seemed to get rid of them." I thought. Now I wait.
To pass the time, I plucked a random book and began to read. As I read through the first few pages, I narrowed my eyes and sighed, already bored. I skipped to a more exciting part. I continued this pattern till the book was finished.
"Boring. How did this even get published?" I said, tossing the book aside. The library door opened up, and in came Gonta.
"Gonta found Rantaro!"
I blinked, as did Rantaro.....as Gonta carried him under his arm.
"Huh, this is unexpected." Rantaro said, placing a hand under his chin. I stood up. "Thanks Gonta! You're a big help! Now just put Rantaro down so we can talk in private." I said. Gonta nodded.
"Got it. You two have nice chat." He said. He gently put Rantaro down on his own feet and left the library. Rantaro looked to me, crossing his arms. I took notice of the Monopad he held.
"Okay, wanna tell me what this is about?" He asked. I put on a smirk.
"Certainly~" I said, "You see, there is some business I want to confirm with you." I stated. Rantaro looked at me confused.
"Confirm?"
"You said you forgot your talent, right? That you don't remember anything." I said. "Yeah, that's right. No matter how much I try, can't remember a thing." He said, signing in frustration.
"Oh I'm sure it wasn't that hard to remember." I said. Rantaro looked at me in surprise, tilting his head.
"What do you-"
"After all, you do have the Survivor Perk Monopad, dont'cha?" I asked. Instantly his eyes widened, and he inhaled sharply. Seems I surprised him. He immediately his the Monopad behind his back, but the look on his face already proved that he was screwed.
"Can I see it? Pwetty pwetty pweeeeaaase!" I said. He bit his lips, seeming more than nervous. I tilted my head.
"Huh? You're not gonna show me? Don't tell me you don't trust me!" I said, fake tears welling up. Rantaro only turned his head away, a shadow casting over his eyes. I blinked my tears away and put on a sly smirk.
"Oh that's alright, I'm sure I can guess what's on it, right mister Ultimate Survivor," I said, making his skin grow pale, "I have to give you huge props for surviving the a killing game! Kinda sucks you got shipped to another one immediately."
I slowly pointed to the far book case, my smile only growing more wicked.
"And I also know about that book case. I know of the hidden lair there." I replied.
Rantaro was silent for a few, long moments. He wouldn't let me see his eyes, but his body language showed he was terrified. I couldn't help but chuckle.
"Got nothing to say?" I asked.
"......what are you gonna do?" Rantaro finally looked up at me, a dark look in his eyes. Like he was ready to kill.
"Rat me out? Kill me? Ruin my plan-"
"You mean the plan to end the killing game by defeating the mastermind? Yeah sorry, can't let you do that." I stated. "And why not?" Rantaro asked. He took one step forward. I'm assuming he was ready to attack. I couldn't help but chuckle.
"Nee-heehee, don't be so naive Rantaro. Isn't it obvious....if you try anything, the mastermind will kill you!" That was when he froze, seeming completely off guard by my answer.
"....what?"
"Rantaro, why else would you be provided with a special Monopad? They knew you'd come after them. They use this to their advantage to kill you!" I explained. Rantaro's eyes narrowed in suspicion.
"But what would be the point in killing me? It's a killing game. The mastermind would just want to watch and enjoy-"
"Jesus, use your head dumb dumb. You know too much, and if you survive, you'd splatter the details to everyone else. All they'd have to do is frame someone else as the culprit of your murder!" I said. The more I explained, the more his eyes widened in realization. I gave him a moment to process my words, then I took a few steps forward to his frozen figure.
"You see, I'm not trying to endanger you," I flicked his forehead, "I'm trying to save you." Well, that wasn't my entire purpose. More like a happy coincident.
"Kokichi...."
"Now listen closely Rantaro," I said, putting on a serious expression, "I know how to corner the mastermind. But, you need to tell everyone your identity, and everything you know." I stated.
"What? Why? What if....someone tries to..." He started, looking away.
"Murder you? In a way, I'm hoping that's what'll happen." I replied.
"Huh?"
"Think about it. If the mastermind sees you revealing all your secrets, they'll panic, and they'll do one of two things; try to kill you then and there, or go for their lair." I said, gesturing to the secret bookcase.
"I see....why are you doing this? Why go through this trouble?" Rantaro asked. I blinked, then smiled.
"Isn't that obvious? I wanna end this killing game!"
And that's the truth. That was my plan in the first time line, so of course I'd continue it this time. This time, however, I will succeed.
