Chapter 37

Immediately, Korekiyo looked right at me. "Kokichi, what is this? What is happening here? We all agreed to vote for Kiibo, did we not?" he asked. "Wrong. You guys agreed to vote for Kiibo....but I didn't." I stated. "I don't understand...." Tsumugi said.

"Allow me to explain. Listen....I wasn't about to have Monokuma have his way. We worked so hard to keep each other safe and sound in this timeline. Yes, he restarted this timeline so I could make things interested for him. He made sure I was the only person with memories of the old game. I don't know why....but I wanted to stop the killing game. To prevent any deaths from occurring."

"So I did what I could keep us close. The closer friends we became, the more likely chances of us to not betray each other. And it worked. We all became close friends. Somehow....I even grew close to all of you..." I said.

"Kokichi, are you being serious? This isn't a joke?" Rantaro asked. "It's not. I seriously tried to save you guys. But....the moment we tried to escape, everything fell apart. I was forced to tell the truth, and once again, you guys would hate me again. How could I lead us out like that when you didn't trust me anymore? So....there was a moment when I gave up. I pretended to be who I was before. The villain."

"But after hearing about the sacrifice....I couldn't bare the thought of losing any of you. Not even Kiibo, which by the way, you're not just a robot. You're trusted friend here. And that's the truth." I stated.

"Kokichi...." Kiibo said, looking at me in disbelief. Everyone just stared at me wide eyed, caught completely off guard. Kaito especially seemed shocked.

"So, I went to change things. I broke into the trial room last night. And I used Miu's tools and lap top to hack into the voter machines. It wouldn't have mattered who you selected as a sacrifice....the computer would've confirmed that you selected me." I stated. "No way, but then....y-you're sacrificing yourself?!" Himiko cried.

"I am." I replied, a smile spreading across my face.

"....no! That not fair!" Gonta suddenly cried. I looked over to him. Tears streamed down his cheeks, and he glared at me. "You should've told all of us! We could've helped you some how! G-Gonta could've been sacrifice instead! No one else needs to die! How can you be so mean?!" he cried, gripping onto his trial chair tightly. I smiled.

"You're right. How could I have been so cruel as to not let my best friend sacrifice himself?" I said. Gonta looked at me with wide eyes.

"I'm sorry, buddy. But I couldn't let that happen to my best friend. Or to anyone I cared about...and I care about you all." I stated. I felt so much better. For once, I was unloading the truth. They can know the real me. It didn't matter if I was about to be executed....I was gonna save them.

"You guys just do your best to get out of this place. Before it eats you alive....like it did to me. I'm not asking for your forgiveness. Not after everything I've done....having Gonta kill Miu, getting Kaito to kill me, for lying all this time....I don't deserve forgiveness." I replied.

"Kokichi...." Shuichi murmured.

"This isn't fair! You can't be serious about this!" Kaede cried. "This isn't right! We can't let this happen!" Himiko stated. "I do not like this one bit!" Angie stated. Gonta looked to Monokuma, who was oddly quiet.

"Monokuma please! Spare Kokichi! Gonta doesn't want Kokichi to die! Please! You can't-"

However....Monokuma suddenly burst into laughter, startling us all. We all looked to him, greatly disturbed. What the....why is he laughing like that? What's so funny? The fact that I'm about to die? It took a minute for Monokuma to finally calm down.

"Oh geez, you guys really are a bunch of idiots, aren't ya? Don't seriously tell me you forgot already?" he said. "Forgot what, exactly?" I asked. "Duh! It's April fools day!" Monokuma stated. A moment of silence passed, and when no one said anything, Monokuma sighed.

"Don't you get it? That means everything I said today was the opposite of what I meant." Monokuma replied. "Uh, I think we all know how April fools day works, jackass. What does that have to do with anything?" Miu snapped.

"Okay, so you remember the rules I explained, yes? You would all vote for a victim to sacrifice. That victim would be executed, and the rest of you will be spared." Monokuma stated. "We're not idiots! We know what to do! We just did that!" Himiko stated.

"Guys..." we looked to Maki, who had her fists clenched, "the opposite of what he says.....he means whoever we voted for, will be the lone survivor. Everyone else....will be killed."

I froze....unbelievably petrified.

No....that can't be...unreal....

This...t-this has to be a nightmare.

"So then, when Kokichi hacked into the voters, and made sure he would be selected..." Ryoma said. "Bwahahaha! He made himself the lone survivor! And he killed the rest of ya!" Monokuma stated. I felt my blood freeze, and my skin became paler. "No....no, you can't be serious..." I snapped my attention to Monokuma.

"You can't be serious! You said I could do what I wanted in this time line! That I had a chance! That I could save everyone!" I shouted. My body was shaking like crazy. I had no idea what to do. Monokuma only chuckled, glaring at me with one glowing red eye. "Well, I guess you know what its like to be lied to then~"

That's when it happened.

Suddenly collars dropped down from the ceiling, and latched around everyone's throats one by one. My eyes widened as I saw each person's eyes widen, and heard the frightened gasps. A few tried to pull them open, but they were metal, there was nothing they could. Not even Gonta was strong enough to break free. I began to scratch at my hair in panic, and again looked to Monokuma.

"Please! Don't do this! Let them go! Spare them! Take me instead!" I begged.

But it was no use.

Suddenly, doors were opened above each person on the ceiling....and I could see saws roaring away. One by one, everyone was suddenly yanked up to the ceiling, into the hatch. I watched as everyone disappeared, and the door suddenly closed. I could hear they're screams above, making me shudder. Blood leaked from the cracks and dripped down. I was in shock....I couldn't believe it. They were gone....they were really gone.

All my friends....Gonta...Shuichi...they were all gone...

"No....no..." I fell onto my knees, hands on my head. I killed them. I killed my friends.

"This....this isn't what I wanted....I just wanted to save them...." I said weakly. Monokuma let out another roar of laughter, which echoed in the small trial room. "Well, I guess you had your chance. But you fucked up, big time. Bwahahahaha!" Monokuma stated.

"I don't believe this...." I murmured, but I froze when I felt a drop of blood drip onto my shoulder and seep into the fabric of my shirt. That was it then. There was no hope in doing anything else. There was no point in trying to escape. There wasn't even a point to live anymore....

However, I suddenly heard Monokuma cry out, and I stood up. The sight I saw surprised me. Monokid stood over Monokuma, who was now on the ground in pieces. "What the..." I murmured.

"Quickly, we don't have a lot of time before Father comes back!" Monotaro said. "W-What are you talking about-" I froze however, as soon as everything around us changed. We were suddenly in a pitch black space, and the only things visible were the Monokubs. "What the....wait a minute, are you guys despair demons too? Just like Monokuma is?" I said.

"Yes, we're supposed to do whatever Dad tells us to do....but we're sick of how he treats you guys." Monokid stated. "He's always so mean to you all! You don't deserve this!" Monophanie stated. "So then....what happens now?" I asked.

"YOU FINISH WHAT YOU STARTED." Monodam stated. Suddenly a door appeared beside us....the same door Monokuma made appear when he started over the time line the first time.

"No way.....does this mean....?"

"You're getting a third chance. You can start over from this horrible time line, and bring a happy ending in the next one!" Monophanie stated. I frowned, looking away. "But....what can I do? We're stuck in this academy every time. There's no way out. Besides, I might just fuck up again....maybe bring about a worse ending...." I said.

I don't want to keep putting the others through this. Through sadness and fear. Through the constant struggles. To all sorts of trouble.

What's the point of starting over if I just get the same result....despair.

"Listen boy," I looked to Monosuke, who crossed his paws across his chest, "I understand a lot is happening. But you can't lose hope. It may seem pointless, its not. Do you think if any of your friends were in your place, they'd give up? No! They'd keep fighting in the name of hope! Kokichi....don't let our father win." he said.

I looked at him with wide eyes, truly thinking about this. It's true. The others would probably do anything to save us. And...I need to do the same.

"You kubs are in big trouble!" we heard a loud voice boom. We looked over, seeing Monokuma coming this way. But he looked different. He had a dark purple aura surrounding his body, and he came charging towards us. Monotaro looked to me. "Hurry! You have to go now!" he stated.

I looked to the door....and bolted towards it. Monokuma's roaring sounded louder and louder.

I didn't hesitate to grab the door handle, fling open the door, and leaped inside....
