Chapter 36
Everyone looked at Monokuma surprised, unsure of what he was talking about. "Hold on, what are you talking about? What do you mean by a sacrifice?" Shuichi asked.
"I mean it as it is. A sacrifice. You guys refuse to kill each other, so now you don't have a choice. At this class trial, you will vote on one someone to be sacrificed, so that the rest of you can keep on living in this blasted academy." Monokuma stated. My eyes widened, feeling my stomach drop. He....he can't be serious. To do something like that....that's wrong. That's wrong!
"You can't do something like that! That isn't right!" Tenko snapped. "Nothing about this is right! Making us relive a second killing game, and then this?! That's messed up! You have no right!" Kaito stated.
"Oh? Well, that's too bad. Because that's what's happening. You better really think about who you want to sacrifice. It better not be someone useful to you guys. And one more thing, tomorrow is April fools!" Monokuma stated, then he disappeared, leaving us dumbfounded and shocked.
I was completely frozen stiff. Monokuma can't be serious. I've worked so hard to keep everyone alive, to keep them from getting hurt. And now....we have to seriously choose someone someone among us. Wait, who am I kidding? They know I'm the one who lied to them, betrayed them....they're gonna sacrifice me-
"I'll do it." We all looked to the voice in shock....seeing it was Kiibo who had spoken up.
"Kiibo?! Now hold on a sec-" Tsumugi stated. "We don't have anymore time. Monokuma wants a sacrifice. It only seems logical that I be the sacrifice." Kiibo stated.
"Shut up! You don't know what you're talking about! What the fuck makes you think you're the most logical choice here?!" Miu demanded. "I'm a robot, Miu. I'm not even a living person. Why should anyone else die in my place? I'm just an electronic device. Nothing more." Kiibo stated. "That's not true! You shut up," Miu ran over to him, firmly placing her hands on his shoulders, "You're the greatest robot that was ever invented, you're one of the most helpful people here....and you're my friend!"
She suddenly hugged him tightly. "I worked hard to save you from that virus Monokuma put inside you, remember? I already thought you were gonna be gone once. No fucking way am I letting that happen again!" Miu shouted, tears in her eyes. I watched in disbelief, my heart slowly cracking from her sadness.
Kiibo only gave a small sigh and hugged her. "I'm sorry, Miu....but this is the best thing I can do. If it won't be me, then who would we sacrifice?" he asked. Tenko clenched her fists, and I saw her glare at me. "I can think of one degenerate male to sacrifice...." she muttered. Her words struck me hard, and I looked away.
"No. Don't look at Kokichi like that. I'll admit, he's definitely a bastard. But if you look at him like that, than your no better than he is." Kaito stated. Tenko almost looked ready to attack me, but Himiko gently held her hand, barely holding her back.
"Kiibo, are you certain this is something you think you can go through with? I mean...." Shuichi trailed off, looking down. Kiibo nodded, still holding the crying Miu. "It's the best thing I can do right now." he said.
"Why can't Gonta do it?! Let Gonta be sacrificed! He save everyone!" Gonta stated. Korekiyo shook his head, placing a hand on his shoulder. "I'm sorry, Gonta. Unfortunately, Kiibo is correct. He is the best choice for something like this. Trust me, none of us want to sacrifice anyone...but this is the best thing we can afford to do." he explained. Angie hugged Korekiyo's waist, looking very sad.
I stood there in silence.
I suppose everyone has made a decision....but I don't care.
I'm not letting it end like this.
Le time skip
I waited till nightfall before I crept out of my dorm. I made sure no one could spot me as I left the dormitory and towards the fountain. The one with the giant Monokuma statue....where the hidden door to the class trials were. I looked in my hand, seeing the Electro-bomb in my hand. I don't give a damn if everyone hates me. I'm still going to save everyone.
I refuse to give up.
I threw it at the door, and it went off. Blue sparks went flying everywhere, and I could see the door open. I didn't hesitate to rush through the waterfall, feeling the cold water cover my body, and go straight into the door. As I stepped in, I wondered if I had turned off the elevator as well. I waited a moment inside before realizing I did indeed turn it off.
"Whelp, guess I better climb down." I looked to the floor, grabbed the crowbar I brought from the bag I had, and opened a hatch below. Then I grabbed onto the elevator shaft and climbed down into the darkness. It was more difficult than I thought, I had to hold on tightly so I would fall. And it was surprisingly hot in there. Eventually though, I made it to my destination....the trial room.
Thankfully, it was empty, just as I was hoping it'd be. I stepped inside, and went straight to the voting machine. I went to one of the them, and opened a panel underneath the screen of it. Then....I pulled out Miu's lap top she made, and sighed.
"Okay, I'm not a master at hacking....but let's see what I can do."
Le time skip
I groaned, hearing the "ding dong" sound of the morning announcement, and glanced at the TV. No surprise, Monokuma was on screen, with a wide smirk on his face. "Good morning to all of ya kiddos! Happy April fools! I'm sure all of you are feeling refreshed and eager for today's class trial. Let's not even waste any time. As soon as you are ready for the day, make your way to the trial room. See ya there!" he stated.
Then the screen shut off. I yawned, stretching my arms. Last night was a fucking pain. Climbing back up the elevator shaft was difficult, and it took me forever to figure out the hacks I needed to do. By the time I managed to come back to my dorm, it was close to 6 am. So I pretty much only got 2 hours of sleep. But in the end....it doesn't matter.
I climbed out of bed, took a quick shower, and brushed my hair and teeth. I stared at the mirror long and hard before I left the bathroom. Bags were under my eyes, and a small frown was on my lips. My eyes looked dull, and depressed. And my hands were shaking violently. I was scared to death....
But none of it matters.
I was snapped out of my trance when I heard a knock at my door. "Kokichi. We need to get going." I wiped my frown away with a grin instead, and skipped to the door. I opened it without hesitation, to see a very unhappy Shuichi. He was even wearing his hat. He obviously wasn't looking forward to what would happen next.
"Ah geez, why the glum look? Things are finally gonna spice up in this boring academy!" I stated. "Kokichi....you can't seriously be happy that this is happening?" Shuichi said.
"Hmm, let me think. Yep!" I stated in a peppy tone. "Now come on, we can't be late." I said, walking past Shuichi. I hopped onto the railing and looked down. Everyone seemed to be awake, supposedly awaiting Shuichi and I. Everyone seemed depressed and exhausted, some were even crying.
"Oh come on you guys! Stop looking so mopey! Today is a good day!" I called out, riding down the railing. Once I made it to the bottom, Ryona glared at me. 'Listen bud, just keep quiet, will ya?" he said in a low tone.
"Eesh, you guys act like there's a funeral going on. News flash, no one is dead yet. So save your tears for the class trial. Come on!" I stated, walking out of the dormitory. I could already feel everyone's angry glares behind me. I glanced back, with a wide smile on my face....however it disappeared the moment I saw Maki.
She was the only one who didn't look at me with hate. Instead, she held sympathy in them. As if...she knew how I truly felt.
I immediately looked away from her, fists clenched. It's almost over...and everyone will be okay.
It felt like forever before we finally arrived to the fountain, and went into the trial elevator. Everyone was dead silent during the ride down. I noticed Miu kept looking at Kiibo with teary eyes. Kiibo noticed, and gave her a reassuring smile. I actually felt kinda sick. This elevator brought back so many memories...flashbacks of the other class trials....of the murder scenes....the executions....
I felt a shiver go down my spine, and shuddered. This was a horrible place. For a moment, I noticed Shuichi looking at me strange, almost concerned. But I simply put on a smile. The elevator finally stopped....and we all stepped into the trial room.
"Finally, you're all here! Get in your places right now!" Monokuma stated. "Indeed, Pops has been very impatient." Monosuke stated, adjusting his glasses. No one argued as we stepped into our places. As we did, they elevated as rose up. I took a deep breath. It was almost time.
"Alright! Happy April fools day, everyone. Now, here's what you gotta do. Everyone is gonna vote on a victim to sacrifice. Think of it as a fee for living in this academy. Now this will be a majority vote, which means the victim with the most votes will be killed. Once victim is voted on, only that victim will be killed, and the rest of you will be spared to stay in the academy. Everyone understand?" Monokuma explained.
We all nodded.
"Then I urge you to select your victim!" Monokuma stated. My screen lit up....and I made my choice. It was only a matter of seconds before everyone had voted, despair written on everyone's faces.
"Okay, let's get this rolling and see who you picked!" Monokuma stated. He pointed to a giant screen that was on the TV. And after a moment....my icon appeared on the TV.
Everyone's eyes widened, and each person gasped in shock.
"W-What?! B-But I thought we had agreed I was the one getting sacrificed!" Kiibo cried. "We did! I don't understand, I didn't select that icon!" Kaede stated. "Gonta no pick Kokichi! Gonta not vote for him!" Gonta stated.
"Now this is very interesting....it would the victim you've selected is Kokichi Ouma!" Monokuma stated. Everyone looked to me in surprise....and I simply stood there, knowing full well that this was the fate that I had chosen.
(Guess who's finally back to update this story?!)
