Chapter 23

Kirumi hurried to get Gonta somewhere to rest. She highly insisted that he stay in his dorm room, but he requested that he rest in the back room in the game room so he could watch TV. So, Kirumi hesitantly accepted his request. She had him rest upon the couch with a quilt covering his large body, which she brought from her lab.

"Are you sure you want to stay in here? I am sure your dorm would be much more comfortable, as well as suited for your condition." Kirumi asked. Gonta looked up at her and nodded.

"Gonta sure....Gonta like this room. Gonta can watch....bug movie." he said. Kirumi gave a small sigh but nodded as she adjusted his fluffy pillow.

"Very well. Then please refrain from moving from the couch." she stated. Kaede stood beside the weak Gonta while I watched from the door. "Don't worry, Gonta. We'll figure something out for you. Until then, just rest and don't move from this spot." she insisted. Her voice was waverig slightly, but she kept her composure.

"Thank you, K-Kaede....don't worry....Gonta will be okay." Gonta replied. His voice was sounding raspy. The Ultimate Pianist nodded and gently grabbed his hand, planting a kiss on it.

"I'll be back in a bit." she said. Kirumi nodded and they began to come to the door. I waited until both girls left the room before I left, closing the door behind me. Right now, fourteen of us had gathered in the game room to discuss what to do.

"So now what?" Tsumugi said, looking lost of what else to say.

"I am unsure of what to do. Monokuma said we had roughly six hours until the poison kills Gonta. I cannot be sure of what kind of poison it is, I don't recognize his symptoms linking to any poison." Kirumi replied. Shuichi placed a hand over his mouth slightly.

"I could try researching his symptoms in my library, but that might take too long." he said.

"Keebo, I don't suppose there's something you can do. Do you have a health scanner or something?" Rantaro asked. Keebo frowned, shaking his head.

"No, I'm afraid I'm not equipped with that kind of function." he said. Rantaro sighed, placing his hands on his hips and closing his eyes. "I was afraid you'd say that...."

"You know, maybe Kokichi had the right idea," Kaito stated, clenching his fists, "Maybe we should all just ban together and beat the shit outta Monokuma until he coughs up the antidote!" "Don't be a fool. The moment we make any move against Monokuma, the Exisals will get to us first." Ryoma stated.

"I don't care how dangerous it is! We gotta try. right?!" Kaito stated.

"We can't just run in there without any proper weapons. Even the weapons in my lab aren't anything when it comes to facing an Exisal." Maki stated.

"But what can we do?! Surely there is something we can do!" Kaede stated. The conversation continued on with everyone, but I remained silent. What the hell can we do? We have no clues as to what the poison is, and Monokuma stole the antidote. And there is no way in hell we could stand against the Exisals. If we even had a sliver of a chance, it would be with Gonta's support, but obviously he's in no condition to help.

"There's nothing we can do."

Everyone looked over at me, surprised by my response. I felt a shadow cast over my eyes. "Monokuma made sure of that, too. The only way we're getting the antidote....is if we killed someone." I said.

"You're not saying we should really kill someone, are you?!" Tenko stated. "Course not, I'm just stating the facts. And the fact is, we can't save Gonta. End of story." I said. Kaito growled, walking over to me.

"What the hell kind of talk is that?! End of story my ass! I thought you were his best friend! Don't you want to save him-"

"Don't be stupid, you moron! Of course I want to save him! But we can't!" I snapped. Kaito stopped, seeming taken aback. I looked away, clenching my fists.

"If you have any other ideas I'd love to hear'em! But otherwise, there's nothing we can do!" I stated. Kaito frowned, clenching his teeth as he turned his head away. He knows there's nothing we can do. "That's what I thought....." I murmured.

"Guys, where did Miu go? Himiko asked. Everyone looked at the magician, then looked around the room. The inventor did indeed vanish. But where would she disappear to- never mind, she just ran through the door. "Miu, where did you-" Keebo said, but she cut him off.

"Outta my way people! Genius girl has a plan!" Miu stated, running past us and running into the back room. We all looked to each other in surprise, then hurried to gather around the door. We watched as Miu knelt beside the weak Gonta, who looked at Miu curiously.

"M-Miu....?"

"Hey big guy, rolling your sleeve up for me?" Miu asked. Gonta looked at her with a puzzled expression, but did as she asked. Miu took something out from behind her; an empty syringe.

"Hold still...." she said, carefully poking the needle into his skin. Gonta didn't even flinch as she began to draw his blood, then she pulled the syringe out.

"Okay, I'll be back a bit later, kay. Just rest up." Miu stated, then bolted back to the door. She ran past us, and attempted to leave the game room, but Ryoma grabbed her arm to put her to a halt.

"Hold it, wanna explain what's going on to the rest of us?" he asked.

"Oh right, sorry. Okay, long story short, I might have a way to cure Gonta." Miu stated. My eyes widened, and walked over to her. "What?! You can?!" I said. "I think so. I just needed a blood sample from Gonta so I can scan the poison with one of my inventions. If all goes well, the machine should provide a formula for the antidote, and we can give it to Gonta." Miu explained.

Kaede smiled and walked over to Miu.

"Really?! Miu that's great!" she stated. Miu frowned slightly, her eyes holding uncertainty.

"Well, don't get your hopes just yet. I'm don't have any experience with medical shit. This is a first to me. So....I can't guarantee anything." she replied. Kaede's smile disappeared, but she still held a hopeful gleam in her eyes. "I'll take what I can get! What are the chances then?" she asked.

"....I'd say it's a fifty-fifty shot." Miu admitted. The hopes I allowed to rise within me had completely shattered. Only fifty percent? That's it?! That can't be....

"So, how long will this take?" Kaede asked. "The actual formula will probably take a few hours form, and then I have to actually make the antidote." Miu replied.

"S-So what do we do until then?" Tenko asked.

"....we can only wait."

*    *    *    *

So, we were left with no choice but to rely on Miu. Until she had the antidote ready, all we could do was wait. Kaede decided to use her time taking care of Gonta, watching a bug movie with him and feeding him food Kirumi had brought. Gonta insisted that I stay as well, saying he wanted my company. I decided to stay, but it was difficult to see Gonta in such a weak state.

"Okay Gonta, open up." Kaede said, holding out a spoon of porridge. Gonta pulled his gaze away from the screen and opened his mouth, and Kaede happily ate it. Gonta munched happily as Kaede smiled.

"Does it taste good?" Kaede asked. Gonta nodded, swallowing.

"I'm glad you like it. But I guess anything Kirumi makes is good." Kaede said. Gonta moved his gaze over to the coffee table, attempting reach the glass of water that was just out of reach. Kaede giggled and grabbed the cup.

"If you were thirsty, you could've just said so." she said, helping the boy sit up so he could drink more properly. A smile spread on Gonta's lips as he looked down at the girl. "T-Thank you.....K-Kaede...." he said in a raspy voice. I looked away.

"How can she be so cheery with him being so weak? How can Gonta be so happy despite the fact he's slowly dying?" I thought. I felt my hands began to shake. What the hell can I do? Sit here and do nothing? Dammit, I just wanna smash my fists into Monokuma's grinning face.....

"Kokichi, are you alright?" Kaede asked. I blinked, looking up at her and forcing a smile.

"Oh, I'm fine. Just a bit tired." That was a lie. Gonta's face suddenly got more pale, and he groaned.

"Gonta....n-not f-feeling well....." He began to cough, and it was much more violent then before. I froze, wide eyed. Kaede hurried to grab the nearby bucket she had prepared and held by Gonta. Immediately Gonta coughed into the bucket.....puking up blood.

This immediately made so many memories flash back to my mind. The puddle of blood around Rantaro's head.....the water tank filled with blood.....Tenko's bloody corpse in the center of the seance circle.....Gonta's wide eyes as that large bug stabbed right through his chest.....

I began to feel nauseous, and the air felt hard to breathe in. I can't do this. I can't sit here and watch Gonta slowly die. I stood up, hurrying to the door. Kaede looked back at me.

"Where are you going?" she asked. I looked back at her and flashed a smile.

"Sorry, I just need a bit of fresh air. I'll be back in a little bit." I replied. That was a lie. I left the room, quietly closed the door, and bolted out of the game room. I felt my breathing get heavier as I ran up the stairs and out of the basement, hurrying down the hallway.

"Damn this killing game.....damn Monokuma.....damn this time line shit....damn it all!"

I just kept running. And running. I had no idea where I was going, but I didn't want to stop. I just wanted to run away from all this. I wanted to escape from this hell hole! I can't stand seeing anymore blood spilled! I can't stand having the pit feeling of fear for the others! I can't stand seeing someone cry after something happens!

I just can't fucking take it!

Finally it felt like my legs had lost all of their strength, and they buckled in, causing me to collapse onto the ground. The soft feeling of grass was pressed against my face, and sunlight blinded me.

"The court yard? Damn I ran that far....?" I thought. I was strangely intrigued with the grass, and began to brush against the blades with my fingers. Then I clenched a handful in both my fists.

"Whatever....I think I'll stay here for awhile...." I murmured.

"Kokichi?"

I perked up at the familiar voice, and sat up, looking over at the boy that was walking towards me. Why is he here?

"Shuichi?"

(Yeah, I changed my mind. I'm not ready to go on hiatus yet. I'm too into this story. So, I'll continue with it for awhile.)
