Where Omegas Tread
There was no way Sahara could explain the feeling that was in the air with words. It was like there was electricity all around her. She had thought things were crazy, but Terrell had turned them on their head.
"Well then," Terrell spoke, "Do you accept?"
Glen watched him for a moment.
Theodore made a motion with his fingers and Calvin did the same. Sleek boards zoomed out from the shadows, each as unique as the last. Theodore's was a blood red with a pair of black eyes on it, which Sahara assumed was the symbol for his crew. Theodore's was a murky grey. When he touched it, it seemed to send ripples across it. Sahara thought that when the ripples went across the back, she briefly saw blue patterns intertwined in a wavelike formation. In the next second they disappeared again.
Terrell cocked his head to the side. "I'm assuming that's a yes,"
"One condition," Theodore told him. "You lose, you give up everything."
Calvin smirked.
The second in commands looked alert at that. The fake Aaron narrowed his eyes while the real one watched intently for Terrell's reaction.
"Don't do it, don't do it, don't do it," Noah chanted under his breath.
"Deal," Terrell didn't hesitate.
"You're an idiot," Noah groaned.
"So, what do I get when I win?" Terrell asked casually.
Theodore scoffed at that.
"If you win," Glen spoke.
Terrell raised his eyebrows. "Just how much are the Omegas willing to bet?"
"Name it," Aaron replied.
"How about I let you know when the moment comes? You know, make things a bit more..." Terrell shot a glance at Noah, as though taunting the boy who looked like he had a whole lot he wanted to say, "exciting," Terrell finished.
Glen's response was a smirk. "Amusing."
Noah turned to Sahara. "They're all nuts," he complained under his breath, yet for some reason he didn't sound like he was upset about it. In fact, Sahara was surprised to see a glint of surprise mixed with excitement in his eyes.
"So, where does the Phantom want to race?" Aaron asked as he crossed his arms.
"I'll be nice and let you pick," Terrell replied.
"The loop," Aaron replied.
A grin spread across Terrell's face. "You sure?"
"You scared?" Glen replied smoothly. "It's been over a year since the Phantoms went silent."
"Silent?" Terrell looked amused.
The Omega's seemed to pick up on it at once and explained glances.
"Whatever the case, you don't seem to have been around. Sure you ready to race?" Calvin asked.
Terrell simply responded by getting on his board. He turned to shoot the Omegas a look. "Take all the time you need, just let me know when you're ready to start."
"You have quite a mouth on you," Theodore said as he leaped on his board.
Sahara felt completely forgotten. It was like the others were so out of her league that she wasn't even worth shooting a glance at anymore.
"What better time to start than now?" Glen said. A board zoomed out from the shadows. It came to stop by him. Its top was ice blue while the bottom was white. There was what looked like a snow flake on the back of it.
Aaron motioned for his own board to come over. It had on it an array of colored patters, mostly in purple and black. Sahara didn't see a logo anywhere.
"Sounds good to me," Terrell replied as calmly as ever. He lifted his bracelet and pressed something.
"What to do with him," Noah was saying, "I never could understand why he avoids attention only to become the center of it..."
Sahara was too busy ogling at what was happening with Terrell's board to listen. She watched how pieces around the front seemed to break off and lift into the air, making the pitch black board ever sleeker than before. The pieces became even smaller and a second later flew towards Terrell's face. He stood calmly as they formed a mask, covering his face from his mid nose down in a black mask.
"Identity crisis?" Calvin asked.
"It sets the mood," Terrell replied calmly, his voice sounding different. Sahara was sure that there was more to it. "Besides, who knows who we'll come across when racing; got to keep my rep as a phantom."
"Except we know what the Phantom looks like behind the mask. Doesn't that defeat the purpose?" Glen asked smoothly.
If Sahara didn't know better she would have thought that Terrell was smiling beneath the mask.
"Pst," Noah hissed.
Terrell turned to look.
Noah motioned for him. Rolling his eyes, Terrell pulled up his board beside him.
"Look, I know you like to make things a little...crazy. But are you seriously going to do this?"
"You don't think I can win?" Terrell asked.
"I'm worried about the consequences," Noah replied. "You don't know how he will react..." he trailed off when he saw the look in Terrell's eyes. "Oh no you aren't," he murmured in realization.
"How well do you know me, Noah?" Terrell asked.
"Sometimes I think not at all."
"I know what I'm doing."
"And yet you never let anyone else around you in on it," Noah replied sternly. "You never were a good team player..."
"And I don't intend to start now."
"You're an Omega, learn to act like one!"
"I didn't ask to be."
"That doesn't change..."
"Noah," Terrell sighed as he put a hand to his head. "Would you quit acting like my mother?"
Noah scowled. "I'll call in Marcus and Roman if I have too..."
"Do it and you're dead," Terrell replied.
"More like you might see some sense."
"Honestly, what to do with you lot," Terrell muttered. "It's like you can't just let me be. Almost like a flock of geese following me around everywhere. Let me do things my way, ok?"
"But your way is..."
"Noah," Terrell told him sharply. "Enough."
"If you two have finished your lovers spat," Glen called. "We'd like to get started."
"Scouts?" Theodore asked.
"Let's not. It'll make things more interesting if it's every man for himself," Terrell replied.
"Um..." Sahara spoke up for the first time in a while.
She got no further as Terrell turned to her. "This won't take long," he promised. His wink made her heart beat. "Noah, start a count down," Terrell added as he boarded up beside the four Omegas so that they were spread out in a line.
Noah let out a reluctant sigh. He exchanged glances with the fake Aaron before lifting his bracelet. "Alright then." He pulled up a screen.
"Ten," a woman's voice began.
Aaron turned to look at Terrell. "You don't know how long I've waited for this day," he told him.
Terrell turned to shoot him a glance. "I'm sorry, I don't swing that way," he said.
Noah rolled his eyes.
Aaron grunted as he turned his attention back to the front.
"Five," the voice said.
Sahara watched, not sure what she should be feeling. This was all happening so fast. She was still trying to get her head wrapped around the whole Phantom thing. At the same time, it was making things click into place. Unanswered questions, things she had wondered about, they were all beginning to make sense. Terrell had been keeping something from her, but she had never expected it to be this.
"Three,"
The Omegas were all staring straight ahead. Out of the corner of her eyes Sahara was dimly aware of Noah and the four second in commands each releasing what look like a small marble into the air. If she hadn't been staring at the Omegas, Sahara would have taken the time to wonder at how those marbles hovered in the air.
"Two...Race!"
Five hover boards shot forward before Sahara had time to blink. At the same time, so did the marbles.
The five remaining guys each pulled up a screen as the Omegas disappeared, almost at once, out of their sight.
"What's that?" Sahara asked as she walked up to stand beside Noah.
"We sent speed cameras after them," Noah explained. "It's the only way we'll have any idea as to what's going on." Sahara could only assume he was referring to the floating marbles.
The screen changed colors and she suddenly found herself staring at the racing Omegas. They were tearing along at an unimaginable speed, and closer to the ground, than anyone Sahara had ever seen race. Her eyes picked out Terrell at once. He was next to Glen, right on Theodore and Calvin's tails. Aaron was following just behind, looking anything but pressured into catching up.
"Where are they going?" Sahara asked as she watched the boarders weave in and out of any obstacle that came in their way.
Calvin pulled slightly ahead. Theodore tried to pass but Calvin reacted by swerving in front, cutting him off.
"Around the loop," Noah replied as though it would explain all.
Sahara wrinkled her forehead. "Is that around the city?"
Noah shot her a surprised look, as though wondering why she didn't know what the loop was. "It's one of the more difficult racing tracks. It goes in a loop throughout the whole city. The thing is...it passes through every territory. That means that if you haven't gotten an Omega's permission to pass through and you just go by...things can get messy."
"But they're the Omegas," Sahara said. "So it shouldn't be a problem for them, right?"
"Sure...except there's one place they pass through where they haven't gotten permission."
"Rayne's," Sahara realized.
Noah nodded. "On top of that, there's more obstacles and danger zones in the loop than in any other race area."
Sahara watched as Calvin once again cut Theodore off. "Don't they want to work together to beat Terrell?" she wondered aloud.
"It's as much about the Omega's pride as it is to beat Phantom," a voice replied.
Sahara looked up. She was surprised to see that the fake Aaron had come over. He too, had a screen up.
"This is the first time I've ever seen them race each other," he continued, "Whoever wins can boast being the fastest of the four."
"All too true," Noah grinned. "I'm just happy to see Terrell racing again. I thought the day would never come."
Sahara wrinkled her forehead. "What do you mean?"
Noah shook his head. "He hasn't raced since..." he trailed off. "It's not my story to tell. If he ever wants you to know he'll tell you himself." He ran a hand through his hair. "I'll just say that he seems to have finally healed from some old wounds. I'm guessing you're largely to thank for that."
"Me?" Sahara asked in surprise.
"They're coming out of the first stage," the fake Aaron murmured.
Sahara turned her attention back to the screen. She was just in time to witness Aaron flip his board to avoid a crate. He didn't slow do in the least, continuing at the same pace. Terrell dropped, grabbing his board with one hand as he too, flipped once to avoid a collision.
He's not using gravity pull, Sahara remembered. Worry filled her. Isn't that dangerous at this pace?
The boarders were going so fast that Sahara was not able to make out the faces of the people they passed due to the cameras trying to keep up. However, she was sure they all had looks of surprise and shock mixed on their faces as the boarders shot passed.
The area they were in changed to one she didn't recognize in the least. They were bearing down on a gigantic electronic billboard that was dead and looked to be falling apart. Theodore chose to go under, just making it and shooting into the lead, ahead of Calvin who took the side, going so close that he sent up sparks.
Glen took Calvin's path and Aaron and Terrell parted as one took the top and the other the bottom.
Theodore and Calvin began to widen the gap. Sahara felt nervous all of a sudden. While Terrell was boarding in a way she would have never expected, she didn't feel he was doing a great job keeping up.
"Do you think he can do it?" she whispered.
"What, win?" Noah asked.
The fake Aaron nodded.
Sahara nodded.
A smile crept along Noah's face. "He's having fun."
"Huh?" Sahara watched as Aaron swerved ahead of Terrell, Terrell responded by pulling up beside him. The two seemed to be having their own little race in the back.
"Watch," Noah began without taking his eyes from the screen, "Terrell's smiling."
Sahara leaned closer to the screen. The mask covered Terrell's face, yet his eyes seemed to be sparkling. "Shouldn't he be more concerned with winning?" she wondered.
Noah's smile only widened. "Have you ever seen Terrell board?"
Sahara nodded.
"No, I mean really board," Noah corrected himself.
Sahara assumed he meant racing. She shook her head.
"They're out of the second stage," the fake Aaron commented.
"Since he's been teaching you, you should know. He doesn't use gravity pull," Noah said. "It's crazy. Even the Omegas use a little gravity, without it all it takes is one wrong slip and you're a goner."
Sahara nodded.
"The thing is...it also forces you to concentrate at all times regardless of how good you get. In other words...you can never get lazy. You can't drift off or afford to lose the slightest concentration. To race without gravity at the speed they're going you need to have something I've only ever seen one person in Regona do."
"What's that?"
"Completely master your board."
Glen pulled up beside Calvin. The two exchanged glances. Suddenly they both shot forward and appeared on either side of Theodore. For a moment the three boarded beside each other. Then an alley with space for two at the most, appeared before them.
Both Glen and Calvin swerved inwards; they would have crushed Theodore had he not reacted and skillfully done a loop to end up behind them. He was just in time so that one of the three didn't end up smashed against the wall. They shot through the alley, not slowing down in a bit.
Aaron and Terrell followed; Terrell taking the top and Aaron sticking close to the ground. They shot out into a busy street, yet not one slowed down as they dodged in and out of boarders and people. A fountain came up, yet Glen, who was leading, shot right through it. Calvin followed while Theodore went around it. It gave Aaron the chance and he shot past him. Terrell followed, his board kicking up water spray as he passed closely above the fountain. Theodore ended up in the rear.
"End of the third stage," the fake Aaron said.
Sahara shot him a look, wondering why he kept making those comments.
The boarders shot around a corner into a straight. Aaron was so low his board kicked up sparks as it briefly touched the ground. However, somehow it seemed to be helping him increase his pace rather than slow him down.
"Aaron's known for racing lower than the average boarder," Noah explained. "He likes to hang close to the ground when he wants to pull forward."
Aaron pulled ahead of Terrell who immediately responded by dropping and following in Aaron's exact trail. He followed every move, speeding up with Aaron and catching up to the two in the lead. Seeming to realize this, Aaron shot an annoyed glance back. Terrell took a moment to lift a hand in a friendly wave.
Is he teasing him? Sahara wondered at the same time as Noah let out a tsk.
Glen and Calvin suddenly split ways, one taking a road going left and the other right. Aaron ignored them both and went straight, Terrell right behind him. Theodore opted for Glen's path.
"Fourth stage over," the fake Aaron said again.
Sahara wrinkled her forehead, yet she didn't turn to look, her eyes glued to the screen. She couldn't understand how the racers before her were doing anything but slowing down as they dodged and weaved through obstacles and alleys. In fact, it almost looked to her as though they were getting faster by the minute.
Aaron and Terrell shot out into the wider road only a split second before Glen and Calvin burst out from either side. Theodore followed right behind them.
Now that he was in the lead, Aaron lifted his board slightly. Terrell followed his move exactly.
Sahara's eyes widened as she saw them speed into an area filled with clothes lines. Some had clothes drying on them, others had none making them almost invisible.
Aaron spun his board, avoiding one before ducking under the other. The others followed, dodging one line after the other that, if it caught them, would surely result in death or serious injury at the pace they were going.
Sahara watched in wonder as Glen leaned forward in a similar way Naomi had done. He was almost parallel to his board, increasing his pace to pull ahead in the dangerous area. He shot past Terrell and was right behind Aaron. His face was filled with concentration and determination, very much like the others...all except Terrell's. The boy still looked like he was having more fun than anything.
"Is he taking this seriously?" Sahara wondered.
The fake Aaron raised his eyebrows.
Noah chuckled. "Oh, he's serious. The very fact that he slimmed his board down for the race means he is going to give it his all." He leaned back slightly, a relaxed expression on his face. "The difference between him and others is that that Terrell lives and breathes hover boards. To him they aren't a tool to win status or points with; not something with which to make a living. A board, to him, is an extension of his body."
The fake Aaron nodded. "Unlike anyone, Terrell doesn't board to live, he lives to board."
"Well said," Noah agreed.
Sahara looked up at the fake Aaron. Who are you? She couldn't help but wonder. It seemed he knew Terrell.
"Fifth stage done. We're in the last stage," the fake Aaron said.
The air around Sahara seemed to change. She saw the other second in commands tense. Noah leaned forward, looking a whole lot more interested in the race all of a sudden.
Looking at the screen, Sahara almost had a heart attack when she saw that the images of the Omega's were beginning to blur. She realized the reason and her eyes widened. They had increased they're pace so much so that the cameras were having a hard time capturing it. And yet they still dodged and twisted as easily as before, not slowing down in the least.
"What is this?" Sahara gasped.
"They're in the last stage," the fake Aaron commented.
"It means they're getting serious," Noah helped out. He pointed at a blur on the screen. "Which means...so is he."
The blurs shot on, going in and out of alley ways and dodging other boarders and people who didn't have enough time to figure out what was going on; for the boarders were out of sight before anyone could catch so much as a glimpse of them.
And then, right before Sahara's eyes, Terrell seemed to vanish altogether. She blinked, wondering if it was her imagination. Yet even when she looked again, he wasn't there. The other four were going too fast to realize the disappearance of one.
"Where did he go?" Sahara asked.
The other second in commands were murmuring, seeming to have realized the same thing.
Only the fake Aaron and Noah stayed calm. In fact, Noah relaxed completely. "So...he decided to use it after all."
"Use what?" Sahara asked in confusion.
Noah turned to look at her, seeming to no longer be interested in the four Omegas on screen. "It's over."
Sahara blinked. "What?"
Noah took a moment to stretch. "There're a few reasons why they call the Phantom crew by that name," Noah began to calmly explain. "There's only one why the crew call their Omega that." He turned his calm blue eyes on Sahara. "You see, when he races, and I mean really races, he becomes a Phantom. He disappears. And once you lose sight of him...the race is over."
"Huh?" Sahara asked in confusion.
"Rule number one, never lose sight of a Phantom," the fake Aaron spoke. "Because once you do...you won't see it again until it chooses to appear."
"I've never seen Terrell take the lead in a race at the start," Noah added with a smile. "Because if he leads right from the start, he'll be the center of attention for every other racer as he's the one they want to pass. If he sticks behind however..."
"The other person in the front will be the center of attention. He'll just be another racer," Sahara realized. "They won't be paying attention and so he can vanish without a trace..." she shook her head. "Wait a moment. No one can just vanish. It's impossible." She turned questioning eyes on Noah. "Where did he go?"
Noah's smile widened. He leaned forward so that he was super close to Sahara. "Would you believe me if I said he simply sped up so fast that he became one with his surroundings?" he whispered mysteriously.
Sahara's eyes widened. "That's impossible."
"I know, right?" Noah replied with a grin as he leaned back. "But what if someone really could become one with the wind?"
Sahara narrowed her eyes. "You don't know how he does it, do you?" she asked.
"Nope," Noah popped the 'p'. "Not a clue," he added cheerfully. "Been trying to figure it out for years but can't. Maybe he really does become a Phantom...or maybe he becomes one with the wind." He shrugged.
"Are you telling weird stories again?" a familiar voice asked.
Sahara jumped in surprise. She looked up to see that Terrell had boarded up behind Noah. Noah didn't seem caught off guard in the least.
"You sure took your time in using that move," he said as he turned.
The second in commands all looked stunned at the sudden appearance. There was also a look of awe on some faces.
"It's not exactly a piece of cake," Terrell muttered. He was out of breath, yet his eyes were sparkling with excitement in a way Sahara had never seen before.
Four boards flashed across the finish line. As Sahara was looking at Terrell, she didn't have time to see which Omega came in which position.
Terrell ignored them. He flicked his thumb down his cheek. The response was the mask disappearing and the small pieces flying down to reform his board into something a bit less sleek. Apparently he wasn't bothered with hiding his identity once the race was over. Maybe it was because all the eyes present had already seen his face.
"Did I keep you waiting long?" Terrell asked Sahara.
She shook her head in reply.
"Great," Terrell grinned. He jumped from his board. "I'm hungry. How about we go on a date and grab some food?"
Sahara's eyes widened. Did he just ask me on a date?
"Done racing and the first thing you do is ask a girl on a date," Noah exclaimed as he flung an arm around Terrell's shoulders. "You never change."
"You're interrupting the moment," Terrell scolded.
"Someone needs to try to keep you under control," came the reply.
Terrell responded by grabbing Noah's head under one arm and tussling his hair.
"Hey!"
Terrell and Noah paused their banter. They turned to find the Omega's walking towards them. Noah pulled himself free.
"Oh, you made it," Terrell told the Omega's casually.
"You sure you didn't cheat?" Calvin asked with narrowed eyes.
"Did I?" Terrell replied calmly.
Calvin and Theodore exchanged glances.
"I would have never believed it," Aaron murmured. He looked right at Terrell. "If I didn't know any better I would have said there was magic involved."
Terrell raised his eyebrows at the absurd thought.
"The rumors really were right," Glen added. He ran a hand through his hair. "I guess we lost this one. I wasn't expecting any less though."
Terrell shrugged.
"So...what do you want?" Theodore asked.
Terrell raised his eyebrows.
"You won, name your prize," Theodore elaborated.
"Oh, that," Terrell exclaimed. He grabbed Sahara and pulled her in front of him, his arms snaking around her. She felt too comfortable in his arms to try and squirm loose. Terrell rested his chin on her head. "I sure could use some strawberry milk."
Aaron looked taken aback and the other three Omegas exchanged glances. Even the second in commands looked confused. Noah turned away with a groan.
"Strawberry milk?" Aaron asked.
Terrell waved him off. "Never mind."
"How about you take the fifth area?" Calvin asked. "Become an official fifth Omega."
"Only the fifth after fairly beating all four of you?" Noah asked as he stepped up. "Doesn't that rightfully give him the right to take all..." He didn't get any further as Terrell shut him up by squashing his palm against his face and pushing him to the side.
"Taking over anything sounds like too much work," Terrell complained. "There won't be time to sleep. But..." he trailed off. Sahara didn't realize that he was looking down at her. "I think I know someone who would do a pretty good job of it."
All eyes turned to Sahara.
"M-me?" she stuttered as she caught on.
Theodore looked far from pleased at the thought. The other Omega's looked hesitant too.
"Or you could race for it," Terrell began. He lifted his chin from Sahara's head. "Want to try it against her?"
The Omega's paused.
What's wrong with him? Sahara thought in horror.
"She's good though, just warning you," Terrell added.
Still using the bluff, Sahara realized. None of the Omega's had seen her race so they wouldn't know her capabilities.
"Alright..." Calvin looked ready for it but Aaron stepped out.
"Just how good?" he asked with narrowed eyes.
"She'd beat me any day," Terrell replied without batting an eyelash.
Liar, Sahara thought.
However, the Omega's seemed to think things over. Theodore looked impressed while Calvin no longer looked as eager to take up the challenge. Aaron and Glen, however, didn't have the same reaction. Aaron simply watched Sahara calmly.
"If the Phantom says so," Glen said smoothly.
"That still doesn't change that we can't do much about the fifth area. We have no control over it being unbeatable in the system," Theodore said.
"As long as the four Omegas accept it, others will follow," Terrell replied calmly. "Now...as for you owing me..." He cocked his head to the side. "How about we keep it at you all owing me one?"
The guys looked far from pleased at the thought.
"Or I could always find a sudden thirst for more territory..." Terrell began.
"Deal," Calvin spoke up.
"Great." Terrell grinned. "Then we'll leave it at you owe me a favor. I'll call on you when I feel like it."
Does he always make people indebted to him? Sahara wondered.
"Now...I'm assuming we're done here..." Terrell turned Sahara around and pushed her towards Noah.
"Phantom!" Aaron called.
Terrell paused.
"Watch out. The next time we race, I'll win for sure," Aaron promised.
Terrell stuck a hand in his pockets. He turned his head slightly to shoot Aaron a lopsided grin. "I'll look forward to it."
Sahara walked towards Noah. Terrell followed her but paused when the fake Aaron stepped in his way.
"You're just going to leave?" Sahara was close enough to hear him murmur.
"I have some things to do," Terrell replied in a low voice.
The fake Aaron shook his head. "Terrell, when...?" he asked.
"Now's not the time, Troy," Terrell replied.
Troy, for some reason the name sounded familiar to Sahara. Where have I heard it before? She wondered as she tried to remember.
"Shouldn't you be getting back to your Omega?" Terrell asked in a slightly louder voice.
Troy responded by stepping aside. Terrell walked past him and up to Sahara and Noah. He motioned for his board to follow and Noah picked up his from where he had laid it.
Sahara motioned for her own. She watched the Omegas depart in different directions without so much as a word to each other. Then, she turned to Terrell.
"You liar," Sahara told him. "Beat you any day?"
Terrell grinned as he walked up to her, board in tow. "Sure." He told her. "If we raced why would I ever want to overtake you when that would take you out of my sight?"
Sahara was at a loss for words and Noah rolled his eyes.
"What's this about you being an Omega?" Sahara asked as she changed the topic. "All this time and you said nothing!" she accused.
Terrell rubbed the back of his neck. "I didn't think it was that big of a deal." Terrell looked sheepish.
"That big of a deal?" Sahara asked him with wide eyes.
"More like he was being rebellious and staying away from his crew," Noah spoke up.
Terrell shot him a glare. "You were suffocating me."
"Not true," came the reply.
"But isn't it dangerous?" Sahara asked. "The Omega's know who you are now. Won't they tell others?"
Terrell shrugged.
"They won't," Noah spoke for him.
"How do you know?" Sahara asked.
"Because, they owe him a favor," Noah told her. "Besides, even if they didn't, not telling anyone his identity will give them the upper hand. They'll always be able to hold it over him...threaten him with if they need."
"Threaten?" Sahara asked in horror.
"Yeah, blackmail," Noah seemed far from concerned.
Terrell snorted, as though finding the idea absurd. Suddenly he froze. He glanced around before turning to Noah. "I think you should head out," he told him seriously.
Noah looked like he wanted to say something. He paused and glanced up. Realization filled his eyes. He nodded. To Sahara's surprise both he and Terrell taped something on their bracelet. Then, they swapped boards.
Noah got on Terrell's. "I sure hope you know what you're doing," he said.
"If it puts you at ease, then sure," Terrell replied.
Noah shook his head. "Keep him out of trouble," he told Sahara before boarding off.
Sahara watched him go in confusion. "Why did he just..." she never got to finish as suddenly boarders seemed to swarm all around them from nowhere.
Boys and girls alike, they were all dressed in red clothes covered in read patterns. The crest of a red rose was right above their heart. Sahara stared in surprise.
"Right on time," Terrell murmured.
"Who are they?" Sahara asked as she shrank back from the piercing glare of a girl.
"Keepers," came Terrell's calm reply. He got on his board. "Let's go."
Sahara wasn't sure what he meant. "Where?"
"You want to see Rayne, don't you?" Terrell replied.
Sahara froze. "R-Rayne?" she stuttered. "How..." she didn't get further as the boarders all around closed in.
"No need, we'll come quietly," Terrell told them. They paused, as though that being enough.
Terrell turned to Sahara. "Congrats, you finally got his attention."
Sahara blinked, trying to clear her mind. Rayne? It had seemed like a goal in the distance and yet suddenly it was sprung upon her. She was going to be able to see the man who could maybe help her find a way to get her home. The thing was...she had no idea how she felt about it.
