Photography - Part Six

If someone asked me what I liked most about where I live, I would respond with "It looks like a Hobbit/LOTR movie."

It started with a snail and proceeded to escalate from there.

My little sister captured this image. What do you guys think?!

I'm proud. Sassy snails back it again with that gastropod slime.

So, today I was trying to be funny, and I failed. Again. I told my little sister I was walking on basic soil. DO YOU SEE THE PURPLE/BLUE FLOWERS ABOVE? The big puff ball ones. Yeah those. So, those flowers are a natural pH indicator. Don't know what that means? We'll I'll explain, but when I do I want people laughing because I'm funny. ...

The pH of something is how acidic or basic a substance it. Acids range from 1.0 - 6.9, and bases range from 7.1 - 14.0 on the pH scale. Oranges are about a 4 on the pH scale, so they're a fairly strong acid. Bleach, everyone's favorite beverage, is about an 11 on the pH scale, so it's a strong base.

Now, notice how acids range from 1.0 - 6.9 and bases from 7.1 - 14.0. What about 7.0? 7.0 is what you would call neutral; it's equally as acidic as it is basic. Water technically should be a 7.0, but with all the chemicals in the water nowadays sometimes the water is more basic, so it might be 7.1, 7.2 etc.

I forgot what I was talking about.

When testing the acidity of a substance, sometimes the pH indicators used will either be red, green, or blue. Reds are acids, greens are neutrals, and blues are basics!

Guess what?

You guessed it.

Those flowers are blue.

The soil I walk on is basic.

I asked my grandmother if I could pour citric acid on the flowers. SHE SAID NO. BUT I WANT TO TURN THEM PINK.

Have an absolutely wonderful day!
