Winter Time

Aru was exhausted. It was the day last day before winter break, and Aru had stayed up late and woke up early to ensure that she perfected her gifts for her friends. She spent endless days trying to find the perfect gift for each of the special people in her life. She just hoped that they would like them. She was up earlier than usual, something that took a lot of willpower to do. Slipping on her coat and backpack, Aru left her room extremely early. She placed three presents down before leaving the shared dorm, one for each of her roommates. Satisfied, she left the dorm. She quietly tiptoed down the hall and down the stairs, careful to not wake any of the residents. When she finally reached the lobby, she yawned and walked outside.

It was colder than usual that morning. Aru smiled as she stepped through the freshly fallen snow. If it weren't for the worry of freezing to death, winter would be her number one season of all time. Snow had always been a favorite for her. The fluffiness when it was heavy, no school days, snow games, they were all great! Aru shivered and pulled her scarf over her mouth and ears. It was great, but cold. Deciding to make a quick detour, Aru began to make little snow people. She made one snow angel and smiled. Satisfied with her work, she continued down the sidewalk and to the gates. The streets were quiet that morning. All the cars were off the roads, most likely to wait for them to be salted. Making sure that there were no cars comings, Aru crossed the street and headed down to the boardwalk. Pulling her key off her lanyard, she approached and unlocked the door to her mother's apartment.

"There you are. You're early for once."

Mrs. Kim was waiting in the kitchen. She finished packing up a container of soup before putting it in a travel bag. She double checked the entire bag before zipping it shut and writing Mook's name on the tag. She handed Aru the bag and smiled. She went up to her room sleep after telling Aru where she left Mook's gifts to deliver. Aru picked up the gift from under the tree and headed out the door, locking it on her way out. Mook was her last delivery. Gang Ho had stopped by the day before and got his travel bag and gift for his journey home. He insisted that he didn't need any of what the Kim family had gotten him, but he accepted them anyways.

The walk back to campus was sightly more nosier than the walk to her mother's apartment. The sun was just beginning to pour its warm morning glow from above the city buildings. The rays playfully peeked at Aru and her surroundings. Cars were begin to sputter to life and defy the cold as they cared fully drove down the roads to their separate destination. This meant that the majority of students were beginning to awaken from their slumbers. Making her way to the farthest building on campus, Aru made her way on to the roof. He turned the heater on low to warm the place up. She then put Mook's travel bag and presents under the blankets to protect them. Satisfied with everything, she left to hurry to her first class of the day.

Aru realized that she was the first one in class that day. Shocked, yet relieved, she tiredly dragged herself up the steps and into her usual seat. She took her jacket and scarf off, putting them on her lap to warm her legs. She then laid her head down and dozed off to sleep, trying to catch up on all the hours she missed.

Aru woke up warm. Slowly fluttering her eyes open, a familiar scent surrounded her. That's when she noticed that class had started. Before she could frantically try to catch up, Mook motioned for her attention. He whispered to her to just continue sleeping and that he would explain everything later. That's when Aru realized that Mook had put his jacket on her to keep her warm. Aru felt herself flush as she snuggled into the warmth of the jacket that was lent to her. She did as he instructed. She rested for the remaining of the class. She was awoken from a slight nudge. Mook smiled down at her as he got her things ready to go. Aru smiled and thanked him before grabbing her things. The two walked on to their next clsss.

Mook and Aru walked side by side down the sidewalk. The two were returning to the campus after seeing Gang Ho off as he left on the bus for his hometown for winter break. The two were silent, enjoying each other's presence as well as the winter snow around them. As they were about to pass the building that contained their meetup, Aru grabbed Mook's hand and went straight for the area. Mook wasn't sure what they were doing, but he let himself get dragged by the small girl nonetheless. When they reached the roof, he found that it was already warm. He sat on the couch as Aru threw a blanket onto him. She then grabbed the travel bag and a wrapped gift. When she sat next to the quiet boy. He happily put the blanket on her and waited for her to explain what they were doing. Grabbing the travel bag first, Aru handed it to Mook.

"What is-"

"It's something from my family to you. There's a blanket and a travel pillow. Oh! There's also some snacks and soup. We packed a couple of drinks too. Don't try refusing it, my mom would be heartbroken if you didn't want to have it."

Mook smiled as he accepted the bag without question. Mrs. Kim was a sweet lady, almost like a second mother to him. The last thing he would want to do is hurt her feelings. Hugging the bag close to him, he asked her what else she had with her. Smiling, she handed him a wrapped gift.

"This is from my family. This, this is from me. Don't open them until Christmas!"

Aru pulled a smaller wrapped gift from the inside of her jacket and handed it to Mook. He felt a warm feeling fill him as he carefully set the gifts aside. Remembering what he had, he quickly opened his backpack. He handed her three wrapped gifts. One for Hyun, one for her mother, and one for her. Aru squealed as she accepted the gifts. The two chatted before getting off the roof. They hugged as they parted ways, Mook on his way home to his mother.
