Seat Saver
Gang Ho was extremely shocked.
He had gone to the beach with Aru and her friends. Mook had decided to stay back and study, an excuse that Gang Ho only knew the reason behind. After their time at the beach had ended, he headed back to campus. Before he could enter the gates, however, he remembered that they were low on groceries. Deciding to be a helpful roommate, he headed towards the local convenient store to get groceries. He was browsing the aisles and drinking water, when he suddenly came across Mook. Greeting him, he stated that he was going to buy groceries for the two as well. That's when Mook stated that there would be three mouths to feed, not two. When Gang Ho questioned him about what he meant by that, Mook pointed over to the only other person in the same aisle as them. Gang Ho introduced himself to the boy before asking him for his own known.
"My name is Dante, I'm Mook's brother."
Gang Ho choked on his water at this comment. Turning to Mook with a surprised expression, he gave him a look that told him to explain.
"He's my father's other son."
"So he's your brother?"
"Half brother. I just found out today."
They finished grocery shopping as Mook explained the situation to Gang Ho, who took it all surprisingly well. The three boys made their way back to campus and into the dorm room. They put up the groceries and went their separate ways to get rest for the next day.
Mook woke up earlier than usual the next day. He didn't plan on it, it just happened. Rubbing away the last bit of tiredness from his eyes, he got up and decided to get ready early. After getting ready for the school day, he went into the kitchen and began making dinner. Before he knew it, Gang Ho emerged from his room. Fixing his shirt, Gang Ho sat down and began eating breakfast. The two ate in silence before Gang Ho spoke up.
"I was thinking about everything before bed. How about you head out to class already? I'll show Dante the simple routes to his first class."
"You sure? I don't want to throw him at you, you just met him."
"I'm sure, go on."
It took a while, but Gang Ho eventually convinced Mook to go to class early. Mook put his backpack on before knocking on Dante's door. Opening the door open with a small crack, he quickly told Dante what the plan of the day was. After he was sure that he had everything done, he nodded to Gang Ho and left out the door. Taking a deep breath, he made his way out of the student dorms. Once outside, he released the breath he held and smiled. He had been so stressed and unsure about the whole situation that he hadn't slept the best. Now he had decided that he would suck it up and make the best of it. The thought itself almost surprised him, especially since he usually isn't one to be like this. He hadn't noticed, but he's become bolder.
When Mook arrived to the classroom, he was the only one there. Feeling at peace for the first time since Dante's arrival, he sat down and pulled out a sky blue paper. Smiling to himself, he spilled his heart into a letter to Aru. Once he had finished it and was satisfied, he opened a pouch in his bag and placed the letter with all the others he had written. He hadn't told anyone about the letters, especially Aru. He made sure to write a letter to her everyday. He had hoped that maybe he would build up the courage to give them to her some day. When he looked up, he noticed that some of his classmates began entering the classroom. He noticed Dante had entered the room, catching the eye of many of the regular students. He wished that he could disappear as soon as Dante spotted him. As Dante made his way to his, he internally sighed. It's not that Mook hated Dante, he didn't. The thought of the father they shared is what angered him. When he put his attention back on Dante, he stiffened at the situation. Aru and Dante were both at the seat that Aru usually sat at. Aru stood there confused as Dante tried explaining why he should sit there.
"I'm just trying to explain that it would be easier for me to sit by Mook because we're-"
"I'll sit there. Aru, sit in my seat."
Getting up, Mook moved over to Aru's usually seat. Dante happily sat in the empty seat next to Mook as Aru sat in her friend's usual seat, giving Mook a confused look. He was about to explain, but shrugged at her when the teacher began his lesson. She gave him an understanding look before paying attention to class. After class, Mook was surprised to find Dante behind Aru. Holding his hand out to her, he introduced himself as Mook's brother. Aru slowly shook his hand, a surprised expression on her face. That's when Mook intervened, stating that they were only half brothers. Aru was the only one to notice that Dante's expression fell a little when Mook pointed that out. Trying to lighten the mood, Aru cheerfully introduced herself to Dante. She looked at his schedule and explained how the teachers that she was familiar with worked. She added a few hints and tricks to getting around and even getting a few freebies for certain classes. Mook was in awe with how easy it was for Aru to be happy and lighten up almost any atmosphere.
She really was an angel.
