Sad Snow
Ms. Lee was extremely concerned.
She immediately noticed the change in her two boys as soon as they got home for winter break. Mook was lost in his own world, like always, mumbling about Aru. The only difference in the situation was that Dante wasn't trying to lift Mook's feelings. He was lost in his own world too.
She watched as Mook made his way to his room, Dante following to leave his suitcase. Then Dante surprised her by mumbling that he was heading out. She gave him a nod, but watched as he trudged out the front door, a dazed look on his face. This was extremely unusual behavior. Frowning, she put the rag in her hand onto the table before making her way down to one of the four doors down the hall.
The door was hand crafted from birch wood. Engraved neatly on the door was Mook's name, to show that it was his room. Taped right below his name was a paper that spelled out Dante's name. Shaking her head, she knocked on the door before walking in.
Mook was sitting at his desk on his side of the room. He was writing something on another page of paper.
"Mook, what's wrong with Dante?"
Turning to face his mother, Mook frowned.
"What do you mean? He seemed fine to me."
She couldn't help but mentally groan at her son's oblivion.
"He's not fine. He's acting strange. Honey, do me a favor and keep an eye out for your brother, okay?"
Mook opened his mouth to reply, only to stop and frown again.
"Mom, he's not my real brother."
"Mook, brothers are brothers, with or without blood. You never forget that, okay? He needs you, please make the effort. I know you're unsure because he's your father's other son, but he's alone. Dante is alone and scared, so we can't abandon him. If anything, the two of you can help prevent each other from becoming your father."
Looking to the side, Mook gave a small and unsure nod. Smiling, Ms. Lee pecked a kiss on her son's forehead and left the room.
It was dinner time when Dante finally came back home. Ms. Lee quickly set the table as the boys washed up. Both Dante and Mook quietly sat down in their seats and got ready to eat. When they saw the meal that was prepared, the two of them couldn't help but smile. Their mother's chicken soup was famous in the village for being extremely delicious. Satisfied at the smiling faces in front of her, she happily ate with her two boys.
After dinner, Dante went outside to put the scraps in the composter. Mook, on the other hand, was doing the dishes. Ms. Lee was cleaning the table and kitchen area.
The boys were headed to their room, but was interrupted by their mom. She hurried up to them and pulled them down to her level. She kissed both boys on the forehead and smiled.
"I'm so proud of the both of you, never forget that. Every time I look at you two, I can't help but feel prideful. I am so lucky to have been blessed to have the two of you in my life. Never forget that I love you both immensely. Words cannot describe a mother's love, but do know that I just can't help but love you two."
Hugging them tightly, she smiled and nodded to them.
"Now go off to bed, it's already late enough as it is."
Mook and Dante both stared at her for a bit, before embracing her. Smiling at her, they bid goodnight.
"Goodnight mom, I love you."
"Thank you for everything mom, love you."
With that, the Lee household fell into a comfortable slumber.
