Decent
Dante knew his brothers were not satisfied with their lives. Gang Ho and Mook were almost always gloomy. He couldn't recall the last time the two boys smiled a genuine smile.
After they had graduated front school 7 years back, Gang Ho and Mook went straight to work with their degrees. They became gloomy, but tried to stay upbeat and satisfied when they were with family. It hurt Dante to see them hurting internally.
Sitting up from his bed, Dante got ready for the day. After making sure his hair was fixed nicely, he grabbed his silver star necklace and put it on. He couldn't help but admire the piece of jewelry that was presented to him. Mook had gotten both Dante and Gang Ho matching star necklaces after graduation, stating that, "every moon needs its stars to keep him company." Both Dante and Gang Ho happily accepted them, wearing them every day since.
Yawning, Dante slipped on his shoes and walked out of his hotel room. Peering to the rooms next to him, he deducted that his family had already gone downstairs for the free hotel breakfast. Locking his room, he sauntered down the hall towards the elevator.
Mama was smiling her big smile. Gang Ho and Mook, held small smiles as they ate in silence. Gang Ho was seated beside their mother, Mook in front of her. Dante served himself a small breakfast and sat beside Mook, smiling as he did so. Mama was the first to speak.
"Isn't it great to be back at our roots boys? The city where you three first met! I knew visiting would be nice."
Dante nodded in agreement as he dug in. It was true, it was nice to finally revisit the city where it all started. They hadn't been back here since graduation all those years back. As they finished their meals, they decided to go on their planned walked around the dock. It was very refreshing.
Gang Ho walked beside mama, holding the flowers she would gather. After Susu broke up with him, he became very gloomy. He refused to disclose why he was dumped, so they left it at that.
Mook was trailing behind Dante, gazing over the ledge towards the ocean. Mook, in Dante's opinion, was in a worse state of mind than Gang Ho. He was so hopeful to find Aru and rekindle their bond. He waited for news about his favorite brunette, but he never heard any. After the graduation disaster, he never saw Aru again. Mama, along with Dante, tried their best to make them all feel better, but to no avail. It hurt them to see those two hurting.
Dante was snapped out of his thoughts when mama broke their silence.
"Oh! I almost forgot! I brought my camera along with me! Let's take pictures together, my sons."
Dante and his brothers practically glowed when she suggested photos. They spent so much time in the same spot taking pictures together, they didn't realize it was noon.
"What time is it, Danny?"
"It's noon, mama."
"Oh dear, we should go and get lunch. It is getting windy after all."
Dante didn't even notice the strong winds picking up until mama mentioned it. Gang Ho stepped forward with a nod, securing the flowers in his grip.
"Mother is right, it would be safer if we moved along now."
The family of four made sure they had all their belongings present and secured. Satisfied, Dante, Gang Ho and Mama began walking. It was until they were turning the corner that they noticed Mook wasn't behind them. Turning around, they noticed Mook, balancing himself on the ledge. He carefully reached for his hat, which seemed to have flown off in the wind. It rested on a hook like structure on the lamppost attached on the other side of the ledge. Just as Dante began to walk back to help his older brother, the wind picked up once more. Covering his eyes and holding down his cap, Dante stood his ground against the wind. When he opened his eyes, however, his heart dropped. With a frightened yelp he tried to run, but found that he couldn't move. He could only stand and watch.
Watch as Mook fell towards the ocean's waves.
