Back Together

It was the first day back from winter break. The buildings were empty, aside from the teachers getting the lessons for the day ready. Aru Kim sat on one of the many couches, waiting for her day to begin. She was about to take a nap, when she heard footsteps and a voice.

"I noticed that you've been getting to the class buildings earlier than usual. Why is that?"

Aru whipped around to find her photography classmate, Gunn, standing by the school's trophy case. He looked extremely tired and groggy.

"I guess it's a new habit I've made. Are you okay? You look exhausted."

Alarmed, Gunn quickly turned to look at his reflection in the glass. His face twisted in pure horror as he went on about how his appearance was. He began to frantically rub his eyes, hoping that he could just wipe away his dark circles. It took a while, but Aru managed to calm him down. As he was whining in frustration due to his lack of sleep, Aru sat him down and took out a small makeup bag gifted to her by a cousin. She carefully worked on his face as he went on about how he'll lose his precious followers because of his eyebags. His ramblings came to halt, however, when Aru pulled out a mirror from her bag and showed him his reflection.

He had no eyebags.

He grabbed the mirror and held it close, inspecting the area around both eyes. He couldn't believe it, it was as if they disappeared! He looked up at the beaming girl as she put away the makeup.

"What do you think? I learned a bit about makeup years ago for conventions. I hope you don't mind that I just put makeup on you-"

"I love it! Thank you! How can I repay you?"

"Oh, don't worry about it."

"No no, I'd feel bad. Oh! I know! How about I take a picture with you and tag you in it on my account?"

Aru blinked a few times before replying. She knew Gunn by how he was in class, and she knew that he wouldn't want to go on without repaying her. Seeing as this was the only thing she could think about, she agreed. It was early in the morning and no one was around, so why not? With a little nod, she sat by him and smiled as Gunn took a couple of selfies. Satisfied, he offered to walk her to her first class. They chatted about their how their breaks went as they walked up the stairs and down the hall. They learned more about each other than they had a whole semester in class together. They then said their goodbyes and headed their separate ways when they arrived in front of Aru's first class of the day. Aru entered the class and went up to her usual spot, sitting down after greeting the teacher. She was extremely early and decided to take this time to her advantage. Setting a timer on her phone, she laid her head down and took the quick nap she wanted earlier.

She had awoken when most of the class had walked in and made their way to their seats. Mook has just walked in when she sat up completely. When he reached the top, the two shared a hug of happiness before sitting in their seats. They were about to begin chatting, but class had just began. Throughout the entire class, they shared little side glances and smiles to each other.

They walked out of the class prepared to talk to each other, but Gang Ho showed up. Out of no where, he flung himself onto both Mook and Aru, making Mook stiffen and Aru to nearly topple over. The three began to laugh, but were interrupted by a tiny goblin.

"Aru! Guess wh- WOAH!"

The three watched as a human girl around Aru's height slipped and slammed face first into a wall. Mook and Gang Ho became extremely concerned, but became shocked when Aru bursted into a fit of laughter.

"Xena! What? Pfft, you had that one coming."

The girl detached herself from the wall and joined Aru in laughter. She claimed that she didn't feel any injuries, so she was fine. When Aru finally settled down, she brought herself to ask her friend why she wasn't in the neighboring class building.

"Oh! That's what I came to tell you! I'm joining your photography class this semester!"

"Great! Another friend to have at my side! I can't wait to see what photos you take."

"I can't wait to see what photos I take too, though, I feel like I would only take pictures of you."

"Why's that?"

"I only take pictures of artwork."

The boys watched in silence and amazement as the short girl easily came up with clever responses at the top of her head. It took a while, but the four walked to the photography classroom. Mook and Aru shared a hug before Mook left to his second class.

After the day was over, Aru, along with her three friends, went to go have snacks at the cafe. After everyone was satisfied, they went their separate ways to do whatever they pleased to end their day. Aru and Mook said their goodbyes and walked to their rooftop. It had only been a few weeks, but it felt like an eternity since they were last there. Finally having alone time together, they got comfortable and quietly chatted about their break and how they spent it. They thanked each other for the gifts before deciding to go over the notes from their classes. Before they knew it, the sun had set and the stars were out.

Mook had been watching the stars lately. He watched them every night and hoped that Aru was looking out of her own window, looking at the same stars. He had desperately missed her during the break. Mook stiffened as he felt Aru shift on his shoulder. Looking over to her, he realized that she had fallen asleep. Being there with Aru under the beautiful stars made him extremely joyful.

This is the kind of life he could get used to.
