The base definition of refugee, is one who's homeland is no longer available to them.. It also means to take refuge in a safe place.
I've been displaced in my life. I've had the safety of my home taken from me. The rape of my spirit has brutalized me. The theft of my being has devastated me.
I continue to try to find my way in this immoral world. This world, that allows the innocence of children to be traded for the pleasure of uncaring adults. This world, that promotes hatred because of differences such as religion, racism, sexual preferences, as well as other non reasons. This world, where the word brotherhood no longer has any meaning.
I can not be my brothers' keeper. My brother has become my nearest enemy. As I face this heartless world from day to day, my brother destroys all that is dear to me.
We are no longer have to live in fear of being lynched by the KKK. But we are not free from the racist mentality that the Klan used to rain terror on previous generations. That climate still lives on today. Yet there is a different evil that has replaced the KKK and their lynchings... Ourselves. There is no hatred more devastating than self hate. We have done more damage to ourselves than the KKK ever could have. Defiling our own race. Committing genocide against our own heritage. Making us all refugees...
