"Miss," a warm hand gently touched my shoulder, jolting me awake, "Yeah?" The doctor retracted his hand, "The girl you brought in, she is currently in stable. Her lower spine is fractured and I'm afraid that she may never walk again."
Shock struck me like a tsunami as I stammered, "C-can't walk?" The doctor nodded solemnly, and he handed me a piece of paper.
"W-what is this?" I mumbled, taking the paper into my shaking hands, tears rising. I swallowed, struggling to keep my composure.
"The, um, bill, miss." The doctor muttered, having the grace to look embarrassed.
I closed my eyes, as if it were all a dream, "Yeah, sure."
He cleared his throat awkwardly, "Well, um, you can see her anytime you want, though she is still unconscious." I nodded absentmindedly, struggling to collect my thoughts. I had done this to Auora, and that was a fact I didn't want to live with. He quickly left me alone, pointing to the room where Auora lay.
Fighting back the tears, I found a pen and a piece of paper and began to pen a letter.
Sebastian,
Your sister has been wounded. She may be slow in recovery, but I cannot promise that all will be heal. Auora does not deserve any of this, and she never will. Had I taken your offer we would not be in this trouble, but fear not, she will never need to see me again.
I entrust her safety with you. Follow the messenger to her. The bill has been paid for.

Summoning a shadowbird, it flapped its dark wings as my dark magic breathed life into the spirit-like bird. Taking my letter, it darted out the window and into the night. Smiling remorsefully, I wished I could follow the shadowbird out and flee with my problems.
But I owed to Auora to see her one last time, before I left her life for good, before I did anymore damage. I looked at the bill, my eyes trained on the large figure on the bottom. Reaching into my satchel, I counted out the amount I owed, and layed them on the table next to the bill.
I went into the room Auora was in quietly. For a long while, I stared at the sleeping figure, struggling to find the right words to say.
At last, my feet moved on their own next to her bed, and my arms pulled over a chair near the bed. I sat down, or rather, collapsed onto the chair, the stiff wood digging in my back.
"Auora..." I managed, before the tears fell and my body shook with sobs. After I while, I managed to sooth my raging emotions and started over.
"Auora," I tried again, my eyes fixated on her perfect face. There were no signs of pain, her lips were slightly parted, her chest rising and falling with each breath. "This is all my fault," I raged quietly, taking the princess's slim fingers into my own. Only now did I realize that a simple emerald ring sat on her finger.
It wasn't gaudy, like most royal rings, and had a subtle beauty.
A lover's ring- she was engaged. Bitting my lip, I wondered with sorrow if she would be able to walk down the aisle.
"You are right," I continued shakily, "I am a power hungry bitch." My other hand dug into the leather satchel and I took out the Lover's Wand.
"But," I whispered, "I will not damn you to a fate you don't deserve."
The whispers stirred, having gone quiet and still when Auora fell from the mare. When they sensed my plan, the whispers returned full force. Stop it, they hissed, What do you think you're doing?
I smiled grimly and shoved the whispers away, raised the wand, and began to chant softly, careful not to draw attention from the doctor and his apprentice.
Ancients words that yearned to be told to the world spilled from my lips as I waved the wand, a light shower of pixie dust falling onto Auora. And when I was done, I layed down the wand, the dust vanishing on contact with her skin. Shoving it into my satchel, I stood up, my job done.
I hesitated and gently touched Auora's arm, "I'm sorry. You deserve better than me." Leaning down, I gently kissed her forehead, "Je t'aime." I love you.
