The Girl Who Loves Me
But I got one good detail out of the so called madness I was the witness to a moment before. My eyes opened from the trauma in my head as I felt as if veins were popping off.
" Aria. Aria Aurora" I felt myself smile when I snapped from my memory lane. She had a look of pride while Jeamie was plain worried about me. Who wouldn't be if someone just downright got knocked out?
" Finally. So, Kytte? Remember anything else or just my name?" She queried, the pride still seeping from the sides of her mouth. I paused for a moment, thinking if I should say what I saw to her or not.
Because that was centuries ago but she looked not so different. Only a couple of years took it's toll on her, showing themselves in slight streaks of grey in her hair.
Why not? She might be the only other human we could meet for who knows how long?
" Earth" I said, my voice low enough that only Aria could hear it and not my sister who was freaking out.
Her eyes twitched and it filled with grief and tears held on the corner of her eyes as she seemingly locked eyes with me again as I wondered if she was going to kiss me again but she just tugged poor old me and rubbed my face as if I was the one that needed comfort.
Am I?
After a few seconds of silence, she whispered in my ear," The Aegir is still out there"
That was a relief to me at least. And that was the entire week gone, just like that.
That night, I had to sneak out to do some snooping when the pack left. Probably cause I wanted some fresh air or that I was desperate to return to my space family. Turns out someone else had the same idea.
" What are you doing here?" Aria called out.
" I could say the same" I responded with another question to avoid responding with an answer I wasn't so sure of.
" You really don't remember what happened, do you? I can enlighten you. For a price, that is." She offered. She said it so calmly that my mouth wanted to scream yes but I tried to avoid the yelling, since Jeamie was asleep.
I've had enough on my platter just as it is.
It's kinda stupid that I thought it that time as the plating was soundproof and a grenade exploding sends not so much as a boom reach inside.
Oh well...
Reluctantly, I agreed. " Alright. Have it your way. What did happen?" I looked at Aria, who now gestured me to sit beside her, by gently spanking the grass.
" The long story or the short recap, Jason?"
" The short one please. I don't think I can handle any more for a few days..." I said with a voice of slight shame.
After I did, she gave a small laugh and laid her back to mine and started a not so boring history lesson of sorts.
" It all started when all the vegetation started dying in the original Earth as the carbon emission flew off the charts. All the countries, well, the major ones who saw the reasons that it could not be replenished, joined forces started two projects." She shifted her head to lean against mine, almost slipping.
" Project Armageddon" She pointed up her index. " Along with Project Aether. Named after the Greek god of light and air." Followed by her middle finger.
" But I guess we were probably infants when that happened to be planned though" She let out a chuckle on the thought.
Then, she re-positioned herself to a more position for her before going back into story time.
" But some bastards leaked out the files that contained information with the security of Class S. And soon as you would expect, turmoil broke out. Panic everywhere, and all of the blame was pinned on the Governments. Every single one of them." Her voice sounded apologetic before stopping abruptly.
" Can I skip a bit? I'll keep in the juicy stuff" She turned and winked at me. I nodded, half drowsy.
" Continuing on the information I promised, Project Armageddon was solely intended it kill off the weak. Not in a bad way but if anything were to happen in the future, the weak were to suffer"
" So, they ended their suffering with nukes" I interrupted her with a sarcastic comment. " But, couldn't they have given them time to time so they could say goodbyes? Was all of this even necessary?"
"It's not that easy, love. If you know you'll lose someone, it'll be more harder to say farewells" She looked at the starry sky and reached her hand out as if she wanted to grab the stars out of thin air.
" You said so yourself." She said in a low voice. " Huh?"
" Your own family didn't get a farewell from you. Those were your words." Aria muttered.
" I guess that's irrelevant now." I spoke. I didn't want to hear anything about that. And that doesn't make taking decisions any more easier.
" Alright. My guess is that Armageddon was what you remembered. But the other project, Aether was the key to Armageddon. Both figuratively and literally." She let out a giggle along with a small job.
"Meaning only when it's completed, should the other one commence. That was the original deal, at least. Aether, as the name says, means air, specifically means oxygen in this case. We needed to first find a place with an atmosphere bearing oxygen" She paused.
" You know oxygen, right?" She cleverly demonstrated by huffing and puffing at my ears until I said yes trying not to laugh.
Aria Aurora. The dawn of melody and light.
I laughed at that thought. Guess she fulfilled a part, huh?
" What's so funny, Mr. Kytte?" Aria tried to knock my head but ended up tipping over into me. My hands caught her but she dug her nails into my palms, ordering me to let her go and I followed her warning, coping with her on my lap.
" Continuing, we did indeed find a dozen planets, which did have the above mentioned things. This planet you call Reflection and 437HER which is just a funky name Dr. Collet made from Aether were the only ones that were possible to even reach, given the technology we had then." I sighed. She really didn't know when things are serious.
" I'll stop here because I'm feeling like an idiot doing all the talking. Tell me everything your remember so that I don't have to say everything" And then, I relayed all the memories I had regained.
" Oh. I'll fill in the rest. At the Trails, you were one of the very few who even had a kill. You knew we needed as many elites as possible and so, you 'KILLED' about 80% of the participants. By yourself. Or you didn't want to hurt others which is the more evident choice, you ahimsa freak." She did the quote emote as I knew myself and I rudely interrupted and filled in that part for her.
" I stun bulleted the snipers and to not kill by using rubber bullets. And I won, being the only one having the most kills and all" I grinned at her wide mouthed." A real hero" Finally a moment to be proud of.
" Yeah, yeah. I hated you for that. But after, I started admiring you and it later turned into love, I guess..." She turned, her mouth spewing hot air into my ears as I flinched due to the sudden change in temperature as she let out a small laugh again.
I 'GUESS'?
" On another planet we landed on the way to pick up lithium, another participant of the Trials fell for me so much that he went berserk and killed Curtis who was the only other guy I knew well." A tear formed on the edge of her eye which she wiped off before it left her eyes with her elbow. She wiped it and filled her face with a smile.
I don't think who wouldn't.
" He followed us after he had assassinated Curtis while we were still blind about it while we were busy trying to find flora and the minerals Collet and your sister asked us for. He assaulted me and tried to kill you. He shot you in your calf and tried to shoot you again. But I was knocked out before I saw anything else."
What are yo- W-W-WHAT ARE YOU DOING!?
She put her soft hands on my left leg and rolled up my tracks and revealed a straight line on the side of my left leg, like a scar from a graze something left behind.
OH...
The mark of skin torn up by something. By a bullet, in my case.
" When I came to, you were holding me in your arms and no sign of the attacker. You were bleeding from your forehead but you never told me what happened. After that, you were in cryo sleep for about a few decades popping out occasionally to have dinner with Jeamie and the other candidates." The girl stood up and lent her hand down to help me to my feet as mine were felling numb.
After I stood up, she pulled me into a hug, me feeling kind enough to return the embrace.
" Looks like I had a weird, interesting life. But I think it's worth it" I clapped my hand in a silent tone.
" And, oh yeah, what's your price? Please don't ask money" I begged her.
" Nothing much, just a kiss" I noticed that she blushed, as I squinted.
And I wasn't sure I was hearing right......
Was she just asking for a KISS?!
" Woah, woah, WOAH! Aria, isn't it taking it too far!?" I put my hands up in protest.
She looked at me maniacally as she chuckled." I don't take no for an answer. And what's to lose? You already kissed me!"
I should have seen this coming.
Aria Aurora pulled me down to her height and put herself on her toes and enveloped her lips around mine, as I let my arms wrap around her tight.
And that's how I got my first kiss...
Not that I remember any before this, do I?
No. I. Don't...
I hope not...
