The Gloom of Death
Cold fingers surround my hand as I awake
I look to see a man in the shadows, a hood drawn over his face for my sanity's sake.
He whispers, " It's time to leave."
But for me, it is impossible to perceive
How I could leave this life or the people I love.
A fear creeps up if I would go to hell or heaven above.
I break out in sweat, begging to be left.
But his hands pull me to him, precise and deft.
I wonder as I see my dead form on the bed,
How many people, like me, would've plead.
As I am embraced by the gloom of death,
I think of do many alternatives to the words I uttered in my last breath.
I think of all the people I would miss,
I wonder if I could've done that instead of this.
I beg again, once more.
But he deposits me in front of a gold door.
Because he is cruel and cold.
"That's Death for you" or so I'm told.
