Chapter 4

A couple of weeks passed since that talk and Taehyung mercifully stopped asking Jungkook about blood.

Jungkook is not getting any better in controlling his bloodlust but school is getting busier, therefore serving a good enough distraction. However, he isn't sure how long it'll last. He might have to ask Seokjin for help if it comes down to it (Seokjin is the oldest vampire out of the three of them and is also the most excellent in self control).

Right now, he tries to direct his focus on the burger and fries in front of him. School cafeteria food is not the best but it's enough to fill Jungkook up and makes it easier to pull his attention from the sweet smell of blood around him.

"You alright?"

Jungkook looks up and almost forgets Jimin sitting across from him. He doesn't know how they keep meeting randomly. They never plan to hang out or join each other during lunch but the two always bump into each other and end up spending the rest of their break together. Not that Jungkook minds. Jimin is fun.

When Jungkook finally realized that Jimin just asked him a question and is patiently waiting for his reply, he quickly shakes his head lightly and clears his throat.

"Yeah, I'm good."

Jimin quirks an eyebrow at him, not looking convinced.

"Come on, you can tell me. You've been looking so out of it lately."

Bloody hell, was Jungkook really that bad at keeping himself in check?

Jungkook thinks about telling Jimin about his issue (his desperate, constant hunger for blood) but eventually deems it ridiculous and even impolite. Picturing a scenario of Jungkook, a vampire, talking about his worries concerning his waning control of his bloodlust due to the dizzying, sweet smell of human blood to Jimin, a human, could possibly only result in discomfort and possibly disgust from Jimin's end.

But Jimin's eyes are inviting and friendly, like Jungkook can really tell him anything. So Jungkook relents, although vaguely.

"I've been hungry," Jungkook mutters quietly, only loud enough so Jimin is the only one that could hear him in the cafeteria. There are people sitting a couple of chairs away from them and Jungkook really hopes they don't catch on with their topic right now. He already sees the people around them giving him glances.

Jimin, the smart bastard that he is, gets what Jungkook means right away and doesn't point out the (untouched) burger and fries in front of Jungkook. Jimin just nods in understanding, his face looking contemplative.

"When was the last time?" (When was the last time you fed?)

Jungkook gulps because thinking about it makes him think of blood and he struggles to control his eyes from turning red and his fangs to keep themselves hidden. There are still way too many people in the cafeteria, way too many people stealing glances at him. Even the slightest change in the color of his eyes wouldn't go unnoticed.

"I don't know, ages ago probably," Jungkook replies hurriedly, wanting to stop this conversation immediately but at the same he can't help but feel a tad better to finally talk about it out loud even if it's with a human who probably can never understand how difficult it is to abstain from fresh blood. But Jimin is understanding enough.

"Do you need to feed directly from us? Do you need to kill someone?" Jimin asks, keeping the last part of his question in a whisper to really make sure no one hears him.

Jungkook swallows, averting his eyes from Jimin and directing his gaze towards the food in front of him. He's surprised to find that he initially thought the sight in front of him is repulsive before he catches himself.

"Yes, to really satisfy my hunger. And no, I don't need to kill but it's not guaranteed that we'll be able to keep ourselves in check once we're feeding."

It's so weird saying all this outloud to Jimin. He never really likes to talk about his vampirism to anyone, even from way back, but he meets Taehyung who wouldn't shut up about vampires this and vampires that and now he's facing some issues with his bloodlust that he hasn't experienced in many years, prompting him to talk about it with his human friend.

Jimin, to his credit, doesn't look as disgusted or horrified as Jungkook thought. In fact, his face remains neutral as if they're just talking about the weather.

"I guess that's fair. I've read and watched enough about vampires to know about your issues with self control," Jimin says, chuckling good naturedly that Jungkook can't help but join him.

Jungkook doesn't say anything else after that, averting his eyes from Jimin once more and busying himself by poking at his food.

"So I'm guessing you don't regularly deal with this issue seeing that you're really having a hard time right now," Jimin continues carefully, giving Jungkook a room to escape the conversation if he wants to.

Jungkook really doesn't want to but he thinks it's helping, saying everything out loud. It makes him want to really control himself just so that he doesn't disappoint his friend and maybe, now that Jimin knows, he can help keep Jungkook in check. Although he's not sure how effective Jimin will be when he's also full of what Jungkook really desires. In fact, everyone is. In fact, his roommate is.

"It's the first time that it's been so hard like this again. And I was usually close with other vampires who could help me. But it hasn't been this bad in so long."

Jimin looks sympathetic, but not in a condescending way. Jungkook takes a little comfort in it, still staring at his food which probably has gone cold already. Still, he couldn't bring himself to take a bite.

Jimin stays quiet as well, finishing his own meal.

As he is picking up the last few fries on his tray, his eyes suddenly widens in realization.

"Oh shit, your roommate."

Jungkook runs down a hand on his face, sighing.

"Yeah," Jungkook says, thinking about Taehyung and his constant close proximity with Jungkook. Not that Taehyung doesn't respect his personal space but the room is so annoyingly small that they can't help but bump into each other once in a while. It's excruciating.

"Is that it? Is that what's making it worse?" Jimin asks, looking far too amused.

Jungkook shrugs.

Really, he doesn't know. He guesses it's everyone around him making it worse, after all they're all human. But then again, it's harder when it's just Taehyung with him because he can point out his distinct smell, knowing who the smell is really coming from, which would've driven Jungkook completely mad if he hasn't been heightening his self control when he's in their shared room.

And as if both heaven and hell wants to mock him, Jungkook sees Taehyung across the room.

Taehyung is sitting at the far corner, alone, with a textbook opened in front of him right beside his tray. He's wearing those ridiculous red rimmed glasses that look awkward on him.

Jungkook doesn't notice Jimin following his line of sight.

"Is that him?" Jimin asks, making Jungkook avert his gaze from his roommate.

Somehow, it's strange to see Taehyung outside of their dorm room. He looks different somehow, properly dressed up, in contrast to his usual get up with his too loose shirt and a pair of those equally ridiculous and obnoxious boxers that Jungkook sees Seokjin wear sometimes.

Jungkook nods as a reply to Jimin's question.

"Does he look specially appetizing to you?" Jimin asks, his eyes glinting with mischief.

Jungkook shakes his head, chuckling.

"Shut up, Jimin."

Turns out, Jungkook's talk with Jimin was helpful after all.

It somehow took some edge off of him, which makes it easier for him to relax and clear his head.

He also found out that playing music also helps him take his mind off of his imploring hunger so he's been playing his guitar more often. During his breaks, he goes out to the field, away from the crowd, and plays his guitar without a particular song in mind. He likes to let his fingers wander, helping himself focus on the sounds his instrument is making rather than the persistent pull in his stomach that reminds him of how hungry he is.

Right now, Jungkook is once again on the field, his guitar on his lap as he lazily strum along the strings. The heat from the sun is as bothersome as it always is, making him sweat buckets and leaving him with no energy to think that's why he settles on resting his weight against the tree on his back and playing whatever his fingers happen to play.

As he sits there, a sight from the corner of his eyes suddenly makes him turn. No, it's not the sight, it's the smell. A familiar one.

Jungkook turns and sees Taehyung. It's only the second time he's seen Taehyung outside from their shared dorm, the first time being in the school cafeteria a few days ago.

It's still strange seeing Taehyung like this that Jungkook continues to stare.

Taehyung is wearing a polo shirt paired with khaki pants that looks absolutely odd on him, especially that Jungkook is used to Taehyung's extremely loose and casual get-up.

This time, Taehyung is accompanied by someone, maybe a friend, as they walk together with their hands intertwined. Okay, maybe not just friends then.

Jungkook looks at this "friend" of Taehyung and is surprised to see that he recognizes him. If his memory is correct, the guy is from the university's basketball team. Jungkook only recognizes him because he was one of the players that sought him out and asked if he wanted to join the team. Jungkook considered it but later on decided that it was too much of a commitment so he politely declined their offer.

Jungkook looks back at the two of them now, the athlete being taller than Taehyung is despite Taehyung not lacking in height at all. The athlete makes Taehyung look smaller and Jungkook can see even from all the way where he's currently sitting that Taehyung is smiling widely like Jungkook has never seen before. They look good together.

"What are you looking at?"

Jungkook averts his gaze from his roommate to see Jimin joining him on the grass.

Jimin followed Jungkook's line of sight before he turned to Jimin. Jimin immediately raises his brows looking amused.

"So that's who you're looking at," Jimin says with a teasing voice. Jungkook playfully punches him on his arm.

"Don't make it weird, I just saw him passing by," Jungkook says, going back from aimlessly strumming on his guitar.

"Is that his boyfriend?" Jimin asks, nodding his towards the direction where Taehyung and his companion was.

Jungkook shrugs, "Maybe."

Jimin was still looking in Taehyung's direction when suddenly, he smacked Jungkook's arm, making his fingers falter against the strings.

"What?" Jungkook asks, frowning.

"Is it just me or is your roommate walking towards us?"

Jungkook looks up to see that, indeed, Taehyung is walking towards them, his athlete companion nowhere in sight.

Taehyung stops walking when he's standing right in front of them.

"Jungkookie?" Taehyung says, a huge smile on his face.

Jimin guffaws. "Jungkookie? Did you really let him call you that?"

Taehyung looks at Jimin confused but there's a smile starting to form on his face once again. Jungkook smacks Jimin.

"Shut up, I couldn't stop him even if I wanted to," Jungkook says defensively, all the blood that he has suddenly coloring the tips of his ears in embarrassment.

"Dude, you're a vampire. I'm sure you can do a thing or two if you really want to stop him from calling you that," Jimin says, looking far too entertained because of the nickname.

"I think it's cute. It fits him," Taehyung interrupts, a smile on his face as he stares back and forth from Jungkook and Jimin. Jimin laughs some more.

"Do you think Jungkookie is cute?" Jimin asks Taehyung and all Jungkook could do is roll his eyes.

Taehyung immediately beams at the question. Jungkook can't tell if he's being serious or just playing around with Jimin. But knowing what he knows so far about Taehyung, Jungkook can conclude that Taehyung is in fact being serious. The thought that Taehyung genuinely thinks of Jungkook as someone who is cute is making him shudder. No one has ever told him that in all the years that he's been alive.

"Yes! I'm especially fond of his bunny teeth."

At this point, Jimin is wheezing and Jungkook just wants the ground to swallow him whole.

Jimin turns to Jungkook this time. "Dude, you have fangs and yet he's talking about how cute your bunny teeth are. Your roommate is hilarious, I like him already."

"Aw, I like you too! You have a very nice smile! I'm Kim Taehyung, by the way."

Jimin calms himself down enough from his wheezing session to give Taehyung a charming smile. "Park Jimin, Jungkook's best friend."

"Who said you're my best friend?" Jungkook asks incredulously. Jimin ignores him.

"So, Taehyung, how is Jungkook as a roommate? Is he nice? Mean?"

Before answering, Taehyung settles on the spot in front of them and puts his bag beside him on the ground.

"He's nice. He's really quiet when I'm sleeping or studying. Did you know he doesn't make any noise at all? He doesn't even breathe!"

Jungkook mentally face palms himself and is asking the forces of the universe what he's done to be in a situation like this.

"Wow, sounds creepy to me," Jimin replies, making Taehyung laugh.

"I guess it is but I think it's also really cool."

Jungkook suddenly wonders just how much blood he's drank recently to have enough to make his cheeks redden.

"You think so?" Jimin asks, amused. "Well Jungkook did mention that you seem to really like vampires."

"I do!"

"Alright, alright, I think that's enough. Don't you guys have classes to go to?"

"Oh, you're right!" Taehyung exclaims, suddenly shooting up from his spot. "I was supposed to only stop by to say hi."

"Well, it was nice to meet you, Taehyung. I hope we'll see each other again."

Taehyung beams at Jimin, so bright it could possibly rival the sun.

"Nice to meet you too, Jimin! I'll see you around and I'll see you later, Jungkookie!"

Taehyung waves before he turns around and sprints. When his figure has finally disappeared from their line of sight, Jimin turns to Jungkook with a glint in his eyes.

"Too bad he's taken, huh?"

Jungkook shoves Jimin. "Shut up."
