7. Smith

Smith is nervous about showing Delaney his apartment.

Delaney just finished showing him around town, and Smith needs to go home before they go to the library.

"Are you ready?" He says to Delaney.

He turns around to see his best friend sitting on his bike, her goofy smile being covered by the helmet.

"Yes captain!" She salutes.

He rolls his eyes before getting on. Delaney wraps her arms around his waist. Smith starts his motorcycle and they speed off towards his apartment.

"Oh wow," Delaney exclaims when they arrive.

"I know it's not the nicest place," Smith says as he opens the door.

Smith turns around to see Delaney's jaw drop.

"Are you kidding me? This place is amazing! You do realize we're having all our sleepovers here now, correct?"

Smith rolls his eyes as every ounce of nervousness he once had leaves. He was pleased that she liked it.

"We'll be having a lot more than sleepovers here Dels." Smith winked.

Delaney throws a pillow at him before throwing herself on the couch and turning on the tv.

"Do you have any pizza rolls?" She asks, her eyes never leaving the screen.

"Did we not just eat before coming here?" Smith replies.

"But...but I'm hungry," Delaney says in a small baby voice.

Smith rolls his eyes before going to the kitchen. Once he puts the pizza rolls in the microwave, he goes back to the living room. He lays down on the couch and puts his head on Delaney's lap. Delaney begins to play with his hair. The pair sits like this for awhile before Smith decides to break the silence.

"Delaney, we need to talk."

Smith feels Delaney stiffen. He sits up and looks directly into her eyes.

"About what?" she asks.

Smith snaps.

"Cut the shit Delaney! You know exactly what I'm taking about!"

Delaney looks down at the carpet. Smith quiets down.

"We need to talk about that night."

"We promised never to talk about it," Delaney says.

"You promised. Delaney as much as you don't want to, too much happened that day for us not to talk about it."

Smith lifts Delaney's chin up so she's looking directly into his eyes.

"Delaney even if it's not now, it has to be soon. This won't go away. The more digging the police do, the worse it'll be for us. Let's be honest. Fires don't just randomly start. And even worse, it started in the room we were in. We're gonna get called in Dels. And whether you like it or not, they're going to find out the truth."

"What truth! We didn't start the fire!" Delaney yells.

"I know we didn't! So someone else was in that room with us. And no one walked into the room after we did. That means the person who started the fire was watching us in that room the entire time. Someone saw us Delaney. But if we don't testify, the police aren't going to know that someone else was in the room, and they're going to think I started it."

Delaney looks up at Smith with tears in her eyes.

"I know. I'm just not ready to talk about it yet."

"The fire or us?" Smith asks quietly.

"Both." Delaney says. "Please just give me some time."

Smith nods and wraps his arms around Delaney. Delaney wipes her tears away.

"Wow, that was a soft girl moment." Delaney says.

Smith laughs as the microwave goes off. He turns to look at her.

"So are you going to get your food?"

Smith watches Delaney scurry to the kitchen before looking down at the ground.

Delaney may want to forget that day, but Smith refuses to let go of the best day of his life.

Oooh what do you think they're talking about?

Lmao sorry I haven't posted in like a year.  I'll try to be way more regular with this and hopefully finish before school starts.
