Chapter Seven

Yumiko stared at the wall in front of her, her brown eyes never moving from the spot until Shun placed his hand on her shoulder. She had to look up to meet his eyes, the height difference extreme.

"What are you zoning out for?" A small smirk was placed on the boys face, his eyes glinting with mischief.

Yumiko gave gave a quick grin before she looked around the room they were currently in. It was filled with baby stuff, the colors not gender specific as they had yet to find out what gender the child would be. Yumiko's brown eyes stopped on the crib that sat in the corner, the yellow sheets holding a thousand different meanings to her.

"We're going to be parents Shun. . . I still don't think I'm ready for this. . . " Her voice held regret, Rumiko's eyes flickering up to meet Shun's before they once again looked at the crib.

Shun gave a frown, his brown eyes trying to decipher what exactly was going through Yumiko's head. It had been nine months, months that they had spent preparing for this child and yet, Yumiko was still closed off from the world.

"Of course you're ready Yumiko. I'll be here to help you every step of the way, alright? I am the father after all."

Yumiko glanced towards the door then, watching as Keiko appeared, as well as the cheerful faces of Obito and Kurenai. She had sensed their chakra's appearing, her face never changing as Keiko rushed into the room and at Yumiko's over-sized stomach.

"The baby is so close to being here, I can't wait any longer!" Keiko yelled out, placing one hand on Yumiko's stomach as she gave a smile up at her sister-in-law.

Yumiko gave a small smile to the younger girl, used to the cheerful and loud attitude.

A flinch came from her, however, as Obito slung his arm around Yumiko's shoulder. The boy gave her a cheesy grin, ignoring the look that Shun had given him.

"You're makin' me the godfather, right? Tell me you are!"

Kurenai instantly rushed to talk then, her eyes widening. "You better make me the godmother then! I deserve that position!"

"Oh god, please tell me we won't. . . " Shun mumbled to himself, knowing that Kurenai and Obito had heard him by the way that both of them snapped their heads towards the boy.

"HEY!" They voices went off together, eyes blazing with rage as Kurenai went to lecture Shun. She was interrupted by a crash coming from the living room, all eyes turning to look at the door. Yumiko was already rushing out of the room, her eyes finally holding an emotion; worry.

As she reached the room where the crash had come from, Yumiko could only see her grandmother laying in a small pool of her own blood from a gash on her forehead as well as the coffee table smashed to pieces.

"Grandmother!"

Obito didn't waste a second as he lifted Rumiko's grandmother onto his back, Obito rushing out the door with Shun following him. Karen held Keiko back, watching Yumiko who sat in the middle of the floor.

After what seemed like hours, Keiko excused herself to the confines of her room, the young child escaping the two girls.

Kurenai slowly made her way over to her childhood friend, sitting next to her. With slight hesitation, she placed her arms around her. It was the first hug she had given her friend in what felt like years, the teenager savoring the moments.

They stayed like that for hours until a knock came from the open door, Kurenai's head looking up to where she saw a woman she hadn't seen in forever, as well as two small girls behind her.

"Madoka-sensei!" Her voice was shrill, wide eyes staring at the Uchiha's face.

A low chuckle came from the Uchiha's mouth, a small smile placed on her lips as she walked into the house, the two girls behind her following like lost puppies. That was when Madoka noticed the mess, instantly at Kurenai and Yumiko's side.

"What happened?"

"We heard a crash and Yumiko's mother was hurt and the table was like this. . . Shun and Obito took her to the hospital," Kurenai glanced up at the woman, watching how Madoka glanced over Yumiko for any injuries.

That was when Yumiko glanced up, her eyes locking with the eyes of one of the girls behind Madoka. "Asuna?"

The small girl let out a squeak, her eyes widening when she realized that Yumiko still remembered her.  The now thirteen year old girl gave a small smile, slightly disturbed by how old Yumiko looked, as well as worn out. She knew the girl was still in her teens but she looked to be in her early twenties.

Yumiko tilted her head at the other girl, who was younger then Asuna by the looks of it. This girl was holding onto the back of Madoka's jacket, the black eyes and hair giving it away that she was certainly an Uchiha.

Madoka nodded, giving a grin. "Didja forget I had a family? You've never met my little one though!" Instantly Madoka threw her arm around the youngest child's neck, pulling her close with a huge smile.  "This here is Rika, my little ten year old baby. She's my child by blood, unlike little Asuna, who's thirteen now, by the way."

Yumiko nodded, giving a smile to both the children before she stood up with the help of Kurenai. A grunt came from her mouth, following by heavy breathing as Yumiko tried to catch her breath from the simple task of standing up.

"Would you all like a snack?"

Instantly the children's eyes sparked, now following Yumiko like lost puppies, leaving their mother behind in the room with Kurenai. They could still hear her laughter though.

Shun came back with Obito a few hours later, both boys looking exhausted. Shun was surprised to see his sensei there to say the least, so was Obito to see more Uchiha's in the house.

"So?" Yumiko's voice was sharp, showing that all she wanted to know was her grandmother's condition.

Shun bit the inside of his lip, unsure of how to tell his newly wed wife the news that he had learned at the hospital. "Well, the cut was minor. She had no signs of a concussion or anything. But. . they're found an incurable virus within her Yumiko."

Yumiko was silent for a few moments before giving a nod, glancing down at the food that was sitting in front of her. She wasn't hungry, as usual and felt like she should just throw the food away. With a sigh, Yumiko just watched Asuna and Rika converse, finding the children's conversation interest.

"Yumiko-neesan, I became a ninja, did mom tell ya?" Asuna's eyes sparkled with interest, not noticing that Yumiko had hid her face with her hands. The teenagers mind was drifting to the day she had been abducted, what those men had done to her. . . Yumiko jumped when Obito placed a comforting hand on her shoulder, giving a reassuring smile.

It seemed like Madoka kicked Asuna from under the table, forcing a smile at the child. "Yumiko doesn't need to know that, Asuna. She has enough things to worry about."

Asuna stuck her tongue out at her mother, ignoring the tension that was was now placed in the room. Ria began to yawn, rubbing her eyes and Madoka took that as her sign to leave. She couldn't let her husband wait too long, Uchiha's weren't patient after all.

After a quick goodbye and telling Yumiko she would be there to see her after the baby was born, Madoka and her two children were gone. Yumiko excused herself from the room, trying to shut her bedroom door but a foot came through the door. A grunt signaled the pain that came from the door stopping on the foot but they forced their way inside the room.

With a sigh, Yumiko met the black eyes of Obito, sitting down on her bed while the teenage boy sat on the floor in front of her.

"Yumiko, you know, as your best friend, It's my duty to see that you're okay whenever Shun is too stupid to realize it."

Yumiko just stared at the boy, wishing he would leave the room. She was fine, minus the fact she felt extremely sick to her stomach.

"You try to keep all your emotions inside Yumiko but for god's sake, you're a terrible liar." Obito gave a quick smirk, as if he was trying to lighten the mood but Yumiko's face remained the same. With a sigh, Obito stood up. The boy walked towards the door, opening it while glancing at his best friend one last time before he left the room.

"Please. . . don't leave me alone again. . "

Yumiko took deep breaths, her face red as she laid in the hospital bed, her eyes showing how tired she was. The crying of a newborn filled the room, Shun letting out a shout of joy as he rushed over to the doctors.

"You have a girl," A small smile was on the nurses lips as she placed the pink bundle in Shun's arms, his eyes widening as he held the babies body for the first time.

Shun walked over to his wife, handing her the small child as she sat up in bed. Yumiko's brown hair was plastered to her face, sweat still dripping down her forehead. She was tired and only wanted to sleep but before that, she would see her baby girl.

". . . Aoi." Rumiko's voice was small, watching as the baby opened it's eyes, showing crystal blue ones staring right at her. Tears dropped onto the infant's face, Yumiko giving a small laugh. It was the first time Shun had heard her laugh truly for the first time in years, the boy shocked.

With a small smile, Shun just watched his wife hold his daughter, Aoi.

A large explosion came from outside, Yumiko shooting up in bed as the sound of Aoi crying filled the house. With a rush, the young woman was rushing towards her daughters room, hurrying to pick up the baby.

Shun was in the room as well, now wearing his jonin uniform. Shun quickly gave a kiss to Rumiko's head, giving a loving smile before he bent down to place a kiss on top of Aoi's blonde hair. The blue eyes just stared up at him with innocence, the baby tilting her head.

"Take Aoi and Keiko and get to safety. I'll be helping the village," With that, Shun was gone. Yumiko stared after him, wishing she could follow but she knew it was impossible. Without a second thought, Yumiko went to Keiko's room, noticing the girl was getting was getting to jump out her window while tying her ninja headband to her head.

"Keiko!"

Said girl jumped at her name being called, slowly turning to face Yumiko who was looking at her with a disapproving look.

"You know attacks on the village are not for genin! Now come, we're getting to safety,"

Instantly the two girls left the house, stopping to only allow Yumiko to put on shoes and get Aoi into a warm blanket. All around them houses were on fire, people were screaming and shoving.

Suddenly, a large paw appeared in front of Yumiko and Keiko, both girls letting out loud screams as Yumiko protected Aoi from any rocks. That was when she looked up, seeming to meet eyes with the Kyubi only for a second.

Instantly the Yumiko was picked up by a ninja, bring her to safety. Her eyes widened when she realized Keiko wasn't with her, the genin nowhere to be seen.

'Keiko?!" Her voice was shrill, all eyes around her turning to look at the woman carrying a small baby. "Has anybody seen a a young girl around the age of thirteen?!"

When no answer came, Yumiko could only look out the window and at the destruction of her home with wide eyes. Keiko was still out there somewhere, along with Shun.
