Chapter One

Yumiko stared at the building in front of her, her thoughts jumping place to place as she thought of the possibilities of her not being placed in a team she liked. She had already passed her genin exam, though it wasn't like she knew she wasn't going too. No, Yumiko was proud of her abilities, even if they were only average.

The girl walked inside the building just as the bell rang, the sound way too loud for her sensitive ears. She still hadn't grown accustomed to the sound the way her classmates had, even after years of being placed in the academy.

Everyone who had passed the exams turned towards the door the instant Yumiko opened it, groans and shouts coming from the children when they saw it wasn't their Sensei.

Obito Uchiha stood up in that instant, a grin placed on his face when Yumiko came and sat by him. He slung his arm around the smaller girl, his eyes trained on the door but his words directed towards her. "I knew you passed, Yumiko! Now you just have to try and become stronger then me if you ever dream of beating me in becoming the Hokage!"

Yumiko rolled her eyes at Obito's boasting, knowing the boy was slightly under her in terms of their grades. She patted his head as if the boy was a dog and laughed lightly. "Sure, Obito! Don't you mean in your dreams?"

The Uchiha turned red instantly, swatting at her hands like they were a fly. The door opened the moment he opened his mouth to reply, their sensei walking in. The man smiled, the nervousness from all the students seeming to disappear.

Fuyu-Sensei seemed to have that kind of effect on his students, making them feel like nothing mattered in that moment. "Alright class, today is the day you have all been waiting for and that is the day you become official ninja of Konoha."

The class cheered, smiles lighting up on each of the children's faces as they awaited for what team they would be placed on. Yumiko leaned forward when her sensei started speaking, smirking slightly when Obito started complaining about being placed on a team with Kakashi.

"Team nine! Yumiko Hamada, Shun Mitsuki and Akira Shiraki!"

This startled Yumiko, her eyes drifting around the room for the two boys that she literally didn't even know existed. Both boys were already staring at her and Yumiko shuddered slightly under Akira's gaze, the boy's eyes having a sea of emotions rushing throughout them. The one thing that stood out to her was the fact that he looked dead inside, even if he had emotions and a beating heart, he reminded her of a dead person.

Shun seemed more friendly, Yumiko made a decision to stick closer to Shun during missions, seeing as she preferred socializing and didn't think that Akira would be interested in that. The girl nodded to herself at her plan, Obito raising an eyebrow at her actions. He couldn't help his confusion, sometimes Yumiko did weird things that he just didn't get. He put it off as her being a girl.

Fuyu-Sensei finished reading off the teams, his eyes going over his students before giving them each a smile. "You're sensei's will be here after lunch. Socialize with your teammates until then,"

As soon as he left, students were up and going over to different tables, each of them going to their new teammates. Yumiko heard the door opened and saw only spiky white hair and realized it was Kakashi. It would make sense on why he was only coming now, he wasn't in the academy anymore and had already graduated. But why was he just being put on a team now?

With a shrug, the girl got up and made her way over to were her two new teammates were. She had been hoping to be on a team with Obito or even Kurenai, since these two were most likely her closest friends in the academy. Those hopes had been crushed.

Shun glanced up, a smile already filling his face. His brown eyes seemed to twinkle in the sunlight and Yumiko didn't know how she should feel around him. She was going to stick to her plan of staying around him the most, however.

"You're Yumiko, correct?" Shun's voice was filled with kindness and Yumiko almost felt disturbed. Someone shouldn't be this kind, at least not in her standards. The world of ninja's was cruel and Shun's kindness, even after just meeting him, would obviously be this boys downfall.

After realizing she still hadn't answered him, Yumiko could feel the heat rise throughout her face and nodded quickly. "Yes, I'm going to assume you're Shun and that's Akira?"

Shun nodded, reaching down underneath his desk and produced two bento boxes. Akira glanced at the boy from the corner of his eyes and took the second box from Shun when he held it out for him.

Yumiko tilted her head, blowing at a piece of her brown hair when it fell in front of her face.

Shun seemed to notice her staring because he smiled up at her once again, the twinkle in his eyes always there. "I make Akira a bento everyday since he has no one ---" Shuns words were cut off by Akira smacking the boy upside the head, his chilling eyes looking at Yumiko then.

Akira made a grunt and turned back to his bento. Yumiko was curious, why had he grunted at her? The  girl sat down on the opposite side of Shun, glaring at Akira. "What was that about?"

Akira once again turned to look at Yumiko, rolling his eyes in a sarcastic manner. "Your clothing choice is terrible for a kunoichi. It lacks mobility and it'll cause your death. This isn't some dress up game, it's a matter of life and death."

Shun waved his arms in front of the two, his smile turning into a frown and his face showing his concern. "Hey, hey, we're teammates now, let's not fight? Okay?"

Akira and Yumiko seemed to glare at other for eternity until Yumiko broke the eye contact, bringing out her own bento box. She grinned, silently thanking her grandmother before she started to eat. Shun watched Yumiko eat, his mouth watering at the sight of her food.

"Ne, ne, did you make that?!" Drool was coming from Shun's mouth, his eyes glinting with some type of emotion.

Yumiko slide her bento box closer to her, her eyebrow twitching at Shun's expression. She didn't like when someone asked her for a piece of food and she didn't know if she'd be able to deny Shun some. "Nope, my grandmother made it and it's all for me!"

Shun seemed to pout but turned back to his own bento box. He studied the contents, tilting his head. He lived with his younger sister and had to teach himself to cook. His skills weren't amazing but the sight of something that looked more delicious then his own made him slightly upset.

Akira nudged Shun, his face showing concern but changed into a glare when Yumiko got caught staring at the two. A small squeal came from the girls mouth, her eyes widening before she started to shove her food into her mouth. For being a girl, she sure makes a huge mess when she eats. Akira thought to himself, his eyes drifting towards the front of the classroom.

Slowly students started to file out of the classroom, their eyes sparking in excitement when they got to meet their Sensei's. Yumiko laid her head against the desk, groaning when she was shaken a few minutes later by Shun.

"Yumiko, our sensei's here," The boy said excitingly, frowning when she didn't make any move to get up.

"I got it kid," A new voice was heard. A women with black hair stepped forward, her onyx eyes glinting. Shun nodded at the women, watching at she karate-chopped Yumiko's head. The girl shot up, screaming out profanities while glaring at the older women.

"Who the hell do you think you are, old lady?!"

Shun had to turn his head away, hiding his mouth behind his hand as he let out a few laughs. Akira couldn't stop the small smile that went across his face before he quickly forced it down.

"I'm your sensei kid, now get your lazy ass up before I make you!" The two women seemed to have a stare down, sparks flying through their eyes.

Yumiko finally stood, making a little hmph sound and started for the door, the women following behind her quietly, unlike before. Both boys exchanged a glance before following after their female teammate and sensei.

Yumiko glanced around the village when they reached the top of the academy, a small smile on her face when she realized that one day she would be Hokage and she would have to take care of the village.

All three students sat in front of their sensei then, each giving their sensei some kind of look that demanded her name and abilities.

"As you know, I'm your sensei and you will refer to me as Madoka-sensei. Any questions?" Madoka glanced at each student about to move on when one of them spoke.

"What clan are you from, Madoka-sensei?"

Madoka glanced at the voice, narrowing her eyes at the black hair and piercing green eyes that met her gaze. She wasn't like her clan members and didn't know if these kids even knew about her clan. "I'm from the Uchiha clan, kid."

A smile lit up across Yumiko's face, her eyes shining as she went to ask her sensei a question. "Do you know Obito Uchiha then?"

Madoka studied the girl before nodding her head. She wasn't lying either, she had seen the annoying boy around the compound and thought of him being unique in the Uchiha clan, just as she was. It was rare to come across a loud-mouthed Uchiha.

Before her students could ask any more questions, Madoka turned her attention towards the male with blonde hair and brown eyes. The smile on the kid's face was starting to tick her off and she wanted to smack him, wiping it right off. She nodded at him, her eyes narrowing slightly when she continued studying him. "Start talking."

"I'm Shun Mitsuki and I dream of creating peace," The boy kept the smile on his face, his eyes closing as well. His personality disturbed Madoka, the woman narrowing her eyes even more. He's too carefree for a shinobi.

Akira didn't even wait his turn, the boy already speaking before Shun was even finished. "Akira Shiraki," He was quiet for a moment before speaking again. "I dream of finding my family."

Yumiko tilted her head at Akira, a frown etched into her face. He didn't have a family? That would explain what Shun had been trying to say before.

Madoka controlled her curious nature, instead looking over at the only girl on the team. The girl would need a lot of work and Madoka was slightly glad she was her sensei. It was obvious the girl wasn't comfortable around guys and a male jonin trying to help her choose better clothes to wear while fighting? It was a no go.

"I'm Yumiko Hamada and I dream of becoming the first female Hokage!" Yumiko gave a smile to Madoka, holding up a peace sign as she did so.

Madoka stood up, clapping her hands together. All three students glanced up at their sensei, their eyes now narrowed and already analyzing on what she could have wanted.

"Now that we know a bit about each other, there's one final thing you all must do to become a genin," Madoka nodded, seeing the disbelief cross Yumiko's face and the concern on Shun's. The only emotion that Akira showed was the fact that he narrowed his eyes at Madoka, his distaste for the woman increasing already. "It won't be hard, just a basic test to tell me how much you all know about teammwork. The test is set up as if we're about to go on a B rank mission. We're supposed to protect a princess but there will be ambushes. If you can pass my test, you'll become genin of Konoha."

Yumiko glanced at the two boys on her team, her eyes wide. She had thought that she had already passed, why was there another test?

Madoka grinned at her new team, feeling satisfaction in their discomfort. "Meet me at training ground nine in about a hour, kids."

Time seemed to pass slowly, the three genin staring at the spot Madoka had just been.

"EH?!?"

****

Yumiko stood next to Shun, the boy happily chatting about random things while she tried locating Madoka. The jonin was now at least 15 minutes late. Akira leaned against a tree, leaning his head back, starting to doze off and but he jumped awake when a punch came flying his way.

He dodged the punch, getting into a defensive stance, instantly taking a kunai as well. He glared at Madoka, the women staring at him smugly. "Are you fucking crazy?!"

Madoka just shrugged at the team before looking over her shoulder, letting out a low whistle. A bark came from the trees and a huge dog came galloping out, a young women dressed in a yukata on it's back.

"Kids, this is Ayame Inuzuka. She'll be helping us in our test by being the princess."

The Inuzuka gave a small wave, patting the back of the huge dog she sat upon. Madoka gave one last glance at her students before taking off into the forest, Ayame following. Shun and Yumiko shared a look before following their sensei, Akira following shortly after them.

The team rarely talked, Akira noticing that Madoka was taking them in circles but the two teammates he had were totally oblivious to this fact. With a low growl, he stared at Shun for a couple of seconds, his thoughts drifting to the times were he and the boy were supposedly best friends. He couldn't remember much, his thoughts in some sort of cage so he wouldn't have to remember certain things.

Akira obviously didn't like Yumiko, the girls happy personality contradicting with Shun's. They should have known that the world was dark. A shinobi shouldn't be happy, no, shinobi's have to be accustomed to their fate which would most likely be death.

This didn't stop Akiras heart from throbbing slightly, the pain of Shun leaving him alone in the darkness a horrible thought. After forgetting everything of their friendship, Shun still insisted on bothering Akira, the boy almost killing him despite the fact that Shun only meant to be polite.

He had grown used to the boy being around him, even realizing his true feelings for the boy. It wasn't normal in this world for a boy to like another but Akira couldn't help the way he acted around Shun when no one else was around. He was ecstatic when he was placed on the same team as Shun but that happiness is slowly drifting away the more the boy talked to Yumiko.

Madoka held her hand out, stopping her team as well as Ayame. Yumiko instantly seemed to become a whole new person, the girls senses sharpening as she tried to find a reason on why they had stopped. The instant she heard a twig snap, Yumiko had thrown multiple kunai's into the trees as well as shurikan.

Madoka's eyes glanced over at the girl on her team, taking out her own kunai while she jumped into the trees to watch her students.

Shun's smile was wiped off his face, his eyes holding a fierce look while he glanced at Akira. The black-haired boy nodded at him, both of them jumping up while performing hand signs. "Yumiko, smoke bombs!"

Yumiko glanced up, startled to have Akira speaking to her but nodded, throwing multiple smoke bombs across the forest floor. She realized her teammates must have some type of plan and jumped over to where Ayame was sitting, clutching her dog.

Shun looked at Akira, waiting for the signal. The minute he saw the flash he finished his hand signs, screaming out the name of his jutsu while Akira said the same exact words. "Earth Style: Earth bullets!"

The boys both sucked in air, the cheeks expanding while their jutsu formed mud inside their mouths. They once again shared a look before spitting the mud out in bullet form, grinning when they could hear grunts of pain coming from within the forest.

Yumiko let out a shout of joy, congratulating her two male teammates in their victory. Madoka gave slow claps, jumping down from her perch on the tree. "Good job, however, I think you may have overdone it. . . "

Three men came from the forest then, scrapping pieces of mud from they clothing and face. "You didn't say these kids would actually beat us, Madoka!"

Madoka rubbed the back of her sheepishly, smiling nervously as well. "Sorry 'bout that Ichigo."

The older male rolled his eyes, rubbing his hand across his face. "You better keep to your promise about treating us to barbecue later," He grinned before waving at the three students. "Good job, kids!"

Madoka seemed to pout slightly before turning towards the three students awaiting their answer on how they had done. She wasn't about to tell them how they could have obviously done better or any other bullshit answer, no, she would praise them everytime they got something right. Even if there would have been a better way.

"Congratulations, you're all official genin of Konoha."

++++++++

I did it! Yippee! I really shouldn't be starting another story but I just can't help myself. This idea has been in my works for quite some time and I really cannot wait until we get farther into the story so you can see how the characters develop.

This chapter is dedicated to nice vibe because she convinced me to post this story! I'd like to thank Bre2k9 as well for helping me with some mistakes in my summary and helping me fix it.

Until next chapter, everyone!
