~*Chapter 1*~
There it was.
I stood in the sunlight, my back to the Arid Plains, taking in the pyramids of the Alchean Desert. It was unlike anything I'd ever seen. I had only dreamt of it, or seen it in books. But now I was here. And I was here for a reason.
As a thief, I intended to steal an artifact from the temple. My last "mission" hadn't gone that smoothly. I really want to say nobody died, but uhhhh...
Yeah.
I ran for the temple, letting myself let out any pent-up energy. I caught a glimpse of myself in a puddle from a previous rainfall. My short, bright pink hair had gotten quite messy over the days, and my jacket of the same color looked a little worn. I wore a white scarf to shield the sand from my mouth, and my shoes were quite durable for these conditions. White combat boots made to withstand anything. I was quite proud of those boots.
I had almost reached the temple when I heard some shouting behind me. It was a group of bounty hunters. Considering I was a wanted fugitive, that wasn't exactly good news. A guy there pointed at me, yelling to his colleagues.
"There he is! It's that pink haired thief guy!"
...Maybe leaving my hood down was a bad idea. But then again my hood was ALSO pink. Damn my love of the color pink!
I took off to the pyramid, the hunters on my trail, motivated by the fact that if they caught me, it was over.
I soon reached the pyramid, and in front of me lay my most daunting challenge yet.
6 flights of stairs. As if bounty hunters on my tail wasn't enough!
I tried to move quickly, but the hunters were catching up. When I finished the first flight of stairs I reached for something - ANYTHING that could help me.
A man died to a vase that day.
I ran, and the two remaining bounty hunters were almost there. I grabbed something - some vials of poison - out of my pocket, and threw them until they were both gone. I knew reinforcements would come soon, so I had to work fast.
I finally reached the top, but yet again I faced another complication.
A puzzle. Of course.
I already had the fabled item - The Key of Greed - to open the vault, but I still needed to complete a puzzle? Aincient people were paranoid. Rightfully so, consdiering I was breaking in.
I check behind me at the pyramid entrance, and saw in the distance that several more bounty hunters were on their way. This time with captured Etherians as help! If I didn't finish this soon, I was toast.
The puzzle didn't look that hard. Just a simple 3x3 slide puzzle. But I was too stressed to think rationally in that moment, so it took longer than it should have.
I shoved the key in and turned it. I heard the voices of the bounty hunters behind me, meaning I really had to get going. The vault opened behind me. A huge trapdoor in the floor. As soon as the bounty hunters completed the last flight of stairs, I jumped in, knowing they wouldn't follow.
"He's a goner," I heard one of them say. "I kinda feel sorry for the dude."
