Chapter 5
I glared at the people in front of me. The fact that they weren't affected by it only angered me more.
My glares are intimidating yet it's not phasing them. How annoying.
Fuka stared at them oddly, her face scrunched up in confusion. "Um, isn't U.A. like a super hard school to get into? And especially the Hero Course? Y'know, my cousin goes to Shinketsu, but he also applied there. Said that only a handful of kids get to be in Hero Course. Wouldn't we be breaking the rules?" She asked.
That's right. Inasa did talk about wanting to go to U.A. But at the last minute he declined his acceptance.
That was the first time I saw him so upset. I never really found out why. I was too busy with searching for Sora.
"Yes, we only let forty students into the Hero Course. That's always been the rule." The principle began I narrowed my eyes on him as Misaki poured him a cup of tea.
"Then why are we an exception? Two troublemakers from an ordinary school with mediocre grades?" I questioned.
Nezu sipped his tea, his face never changing.
"Because you two are extraordinary. I can see why the police have labeled you troublemakers, but there's something about you two. As you said, you're students of a regular school, yet you're the only ones who have been able to continuously get closer to Sora, infiltrate a highly guarded school, and assist those at USJ without any harm and with precise and calculated movements."
"The detective here had to look into you two to verify you weren't a threat, and you two have possibly been involved in many cases in capturing or defeating Villains. I see great potential. Potential that your family has ignored or simply warped in a less than desirable situation. I want to put you on a better path."
I kept my hard gaze on the principle. "Not a chance." I seethed.
The principle wasn't phased. "Oh that's a shame. If you decline my offer, I can't assist you and the authorities may find you a threat and put you in a juvenile detention facility."
I stood quickly, wanting to strike the damn rat. "Are you threatening me?" I gritted out.
The silver haired man, Kan, finally spoke. "He's giving you an opportunity." He stated, his own hard gaze clashing with my own.
"You have continued to break the laws without any consideration, and with your recent one at U.A. and the mass publicity that came with that incident, the authorities can no longer look away from your actions." The mummy man, Aizawa, chimed.
Misaki sighed loudly. "Anju, calm down. Please. The principle is merely trying to help you. Please." My gaze softened at his pleading.
He's always been one of the few soft spots I have. I sat back down, staring at the coffee table. "So we take your offer. Wouldn't that still be unfair and a funny number?" Fuka asked them.
Nezu set down his tea. "Not really. It'll still be an even number and there are only two Hero classes. One of you will be placed in 1-A and the other in 1-B."
Fuka's face fell at his words. We've always been in the same class. Ever since primary school. "Do we have to be in separate classes?" She asked softly, completely out of character for her.
"It's what would be fair." Kan said.
"We're not separating." I stated defiantly. Fuka nodded in her head quickly in agreement. "That's not something you can decide." Kan began.
"No!" Fuka argued. His temple throbbed in annoyance. "It's not how-"
"No!"
It's not-"
"No!"
"Stop tha-"
"Noooo!"
"Enough-"
"Noooo~!"
Everyone in the room sweat dropped at Fuka and Kan's argument. While Kan just got angrier, Fuka began to get cheekier.
It was kind of amusing.
"I'm sorry, but it must be done this way. You'll only be a classroom away. If you accept my proposal, you Ms. Raiden will be in Class 1-A, and Ms. Nakahara will be in Class 1-B." Nezu explained.
Hmph. Fuka puffed her cheek out childishly. I rubbed my temple, feeling a headache coming on.
"We live over an hour away from the school. You want us to wake up at the ass-crack of dawn-"
"Language!" Misaki exclaimed.
"Japanese!" I snapped back, before looking back at the principle. "And ride all the way to a school we obviously don't qualify for, then ride the train back and get home late, just because you're intrigued by us?"
The principal nodded, not bothered by my choice of words. "Yes that's right."
My eye twitched. What an annoying guy he is. But we don't have a lot of options here.
Either take the deal and attend a well renowned school and expect to meet the standards of their education and be under constant supervision by some of the best Heroes, or be thrown in juvie.
Again.
"I guess we're going to U.A."
~
The sun shone annoyingly bright, the light reflecting off of the ridiculously extravagant school and nearly blinding me.
Before I was amazed by luxurious building and the amount of money it took to make it this way. But now I'm only irritated by the snobs that must be roaming inside.
A scowl etched onto my face as I glared at the building with resentment.
Everything about this place is pissing me off. Even the uniform. I didn't like my old school uniform, but this one's a whole lot worse. I didn't even bother wearing the blazer, only having it wrapped around my waist.
I was wearing my jacket, but Fuka made me leave it because of 'fashion crisis'. Something about clashing colors or something. The sleeves of my white blouse are rolled up a bit and my tie is loose.
The improper wear of it had Misaki throwing a fit, but he can suck my dick for agreeing with the damn rat.
"Well, we should head in. I bet if we're late Principle Nezu will just call Misaki-Chan and he'll yell at us." Fuka sighed.
Her blazer is unbuttoned and part of it was falling off her left shoulder and her shirts untucked. Like me, Misaki gave her an earful, but then again it went right out the other ear.
"Yeah. I've had enough of his scoldings. Let's go." I said, heading into the building. Kids were all around us, talking amongst themselves. I didn't bother looking too closely at them. I just want to get today over with.
Despite this being an insanely large school, it's still a school, so finding our classrooms were simple. Except 1-B is a bit away from 1-A.
I was about to say my farewell to Fuka, but she strolled to 1-A's door without hesitation.
"Uh, Fuka?" She looked back at me and I raised an eyebrow, jabbing my thumb towards where her class should be.
She looked absolutely confused. "Did you actually think I was gonna listen?" I nearly burst out laughing at how simple she said it.
Should've known. People think I don't listen to authority? Obviously they don't know Fuka.
Shaking my head, a smirk made its way onto my face. "I don't know why I would think that." I said, opening the door and stepping in. It seems everyone's here already.
Except Aizawa, who I learned from the rat that he's this class's teacher. "Oh! You're . . ." The redhead from USJ stood from his seat, staring at us wide eye.
Fuka grinned and waved. "Hi! Looks like we're going to be studying together!" She said cheerfully.
The students looked relatively surprised, but then their eyes drifted to the extra desk that was placed in the back. "Eh, both of you?" A brunette girl murmured.
Yeah, there's that problem. There's only one extra desk, not two. My eyes scanned them, falling on the smallest of them. A tiny kid with weird hair.
I walked over to him and stared him down. "There's not enough desks. Your seat. I want it." He began to sweat, intimidated by me.
"B-But-" I just narrowed my eyes even more and he immediately leapt out of his seat.
Closing my eyes I plopped down. "Fuka, take the one in the back." I could hear her smile in her voice. "Okay~!"
I reopened my eyes and watched as she sat down at the extra desk and the small kid sat on the ground back by her. Behind me is a girl with long black hair and behind her Fuka.
"Hey! That is Mineta-Kun's seat! You cannot bully someone out of their assigned seat." The glasses boy who got the teachers stood in front of my desk.
I cocked my head a bit. "He didn't argue much about it. He doesn't mind. Right?" I looked back at the small kid and smirked.
He jumped a bit at my look and shook his head. "I don't mind!" He was quick to get out.
Fuka laughed aloud. I looked back at glasses and kept my own smug look. "See?"
He didn't look amused. "How can you be in this school with that sort of behavior?" Before I could make a smartass remark, the bell rang and in came the mummified Aizawa. "Morning."
The kids all sat straight, eyes wide with disbelief. "Aizawa-Sensei, you're back too soon!" They all shouted in unison.
I don't blame them. I was just as surprised when he came to my house a couple days ago.
As he walked in, he immediately zoned his eyes on us. "Nakahara, why aren't you in class?" He asked, voice slightly muffled by his bandages.
"I'm in a class." Her smile never faltered. As always. "But it's not your class." Aizawa-Sensei stated. She just closed her eyes, smile still intact.
Seeing as she wasn't leaving, he sighed. "As most of you realized these two were at USJ. They'll be your new classmates. Well, Raiden Anju will be. Nakahara Fuka should be in 1-B."
Fuka didn't bat an eye, just watched our teacher with interest. "Well, anyway, you should get used to them."
"That's a poor explanation!" Some students cried. Fuka just giggled even more, amused by our classmates. "It's fine, it's fine." She waved it off.
Some of the students turned their heads to look at her. "It's not!" Her smile never faltered, if even possible, it grew.
"Well, anyway, you shouldn't take it easy. The fight isn't over yet."
Huh? Fight? Does he mean what happened at USJ?
"The U.A. Sports Festival is drawing near." I blinked. What?
The students all stood up. "That's a super normal school event!" I looked at them weirdly. What the hell is with them?
As a redhead began to get fired up, a blonde smacked his hand to his face and pushed him back down in his seat.
"Wait a minute!" The girl next to him nodded, staring at our teacher oddly. "Is it okay to have a sports festival so soon after the Villains snuck inside?" She asked. This seemed to trouble the others and a blond boy with a tail spoke next.
"What if they attack us again or something?"
I couldn't stop myself from snorting, bringing their attention my way.
I rolled my eyes. "The Sports Festival is attended by literally every freaking Hero. You'll be fine."
Pansies. Fuka nodded, fists up to her chest. "Yeah! Don't worry. Besides, keeping the Sports Festival is a big slap to the Villains face." She grinned cheekily.
I mean, she's not wrong.
"Yeah. Apparently they think of it as U.A. showing that our crisis management system is solid as a rock by holding the event. Security will also be strengthened to five times that of previous years. Above all. Our sports festival is a huge chance. It's not an event to be cancelled because of a few Villains."
I glanced out the window, droning out of Aizawa's explanation of the festival.
Man, I'm tired.
~
As the bell rang, signalling lunch, the door slammed open and the silverhead from before popped in, eyes narrowing on Fuka.
"Nakahara! This is not your class! Go to 1-B after lunch!" He shouted.
I, along with a few others, looked over at Fuka curiously. But she just skipped over to me. "Hey, hey! Do you think they're food will be better than our old school?" She asked, completely ignoring her teacher.
"Hey! Listen to me!" He shouted.
A smirk of amusement made its way onto my face as I watched the scene unfold. Casually leaning over, I unlocked the window I'm next to and opened it.
Fuka turned to her teacher and beamed. "No thanks!" And in a gust of wind she escaped through the window. Kan ran over and looked up, seeing her flying towards the school entrance.
"NAKAHARA!" He roared, jumping out and taking off after her.
My smirk grew. Way to go girl. Stretching, I looked to the boy in front of me, making him jump as my attention turned towards him.
He's that kid that kept on throwing himself at the Villains.
Trying to save All Might.
Hm. I tilted my head a bit, remembering the spike in his electric signals. Similar to the spike in All Might's.
"Which ways the cafeteria?" I asked. He blinked and offered a timid smile. "I-I can take you Raiden-San." I walked towards the door, but he wasn't following. I could feel his anxiety from here.
I sighed. "C'mon." I called back.
"Y-Yes!" He quickly rushed over and we exited along with some other students. Two in particular walked by us, obviously trying to see how I'd react.
It's the class president looking kid and a girl with short brown hair.
"Um, Raiden-San. You were at USJ, right?" The girl asked carefully, testing the waters. I nodded, keeping my eyes forward as the green haired boy led us.
Still tense and nervous.
"Can I ask why you were there?" She asked carefully.
I didn't respond. "It is rude to ignore her question!" The class rep looking kid said, moving his arms robotically. I raised a brow at his behavior. "And I care why?"
This seemed to rile him up even further. "Iida-kun, calm down!" His friends quickly tried to calm him. Such a goody-goody. Ah. These electric signals!
My head snapped in the direction of an oncoming corridor. He came closer before laughing. "You Midoriya is here!" He popped halfway out into view, still huddled weirdly by the wall.
"All Might!" Midoriya exclaimed.
A strange sense of awe filled me. Ever since my encounter with him at USJ my mind is always going back to that fight.
It was the first time I became genuinely interested in Heroes. He was so amazing, and his signals are incredible.
My mouth shut, not able to say anything to him. My throat closed and I could only stare at him.
Like last time, he wore a tux, but this one is blue instead of mustard yellow. "What's wrong?" Midoriya asked.
Ah. He came for Midoriya? I glanced at the timid kid curiously before back at All Might, who remained half hidden.
Huh? Why's he half hidden? That's surprisingly meak.
"Lunch! Wanna eat together?" He revealed a bento box wrapped in a blue cloth with white clouds into view, moving both hands to his chest like some girl in a manga.
"He's like a maiden!" Uraraka spluttered.
My eye twitched. My newfound admiration of him dropping. This is the guy who gave me goosebumps? Who made me want to fight just like him?
Ah this is embarrassing.
Midoriya looked over at Iida who gave him an encouraging nod. Then he timidly looked over to me, instinctively making himself look smaller.
Man he's so timid.
With a sigh I nodded down the hall. "I can smell the food, so finding it should be simple. Later." I turned without waiting for him to respond and headed in the direction I thought it was.
Those two seem close. And whenever Midoriya uses his Quirk, it expands like All Might's. Electric signals are all typically more or less the same. But theirs is something else. But only when they're using their Quirks.
They're so strong and powerful. But not in a normal sense. It's off. Like it's an old entwined with new. Nomu's signals were off too, but I recognize it from lab experiments.
It's manmade.
Could it have originated from his old lab? Was it elsewhere? What's with All Might and Midoriya's signals? What is Sora doing with the League of Villains? Why does the League want to kill All Might so badly?
More importantly, why do I even care?
This has nothing to do with me. But it involves Sora so I guess I do have something to do with it. Whether I want to be or not.
Iida and Uraraka had taken to staying behind me, either not wanting to talk to me or being weary of me. It's pretty common, even with kids at my old school. It doesn't bother me.
The many voices and chattering led me to the cafeteria which was flooded with plenty of teens. And this is no ordinary cafeteria.
Where usual cafeterias are bland and consist of a couple of iffy tables, this school had extravagant tables, seats, plants, it looks like the inside of restaurant.
Damn this school has too much money to spend. A random guy almost ran into me as his friends chased him, making my eye twitch. There are more kids in here then a usual school too.
Yeah, I'd rather starve then stay here stuck with a bunch of hormonal teenagers. No thanks.
Before I could turn to leave, someone called out to me. "Anju, Anju~! Over here!" Fuka waved madly over at me from her seat next to a few kids from our class.
When did she get back inside? How did she beat me to the lunchroom and get her food? What the hell?
I shook my head, knowing that I would never know the mystery known as Fuka. Half the time I question if she's even human.
With a sigh, I headed over towards her, ignoring the people bustling around me. Fuka sat next to the pink girl and was patting the empty seat on her other side excitedly. "I got you some food too!" I raised a brow at her before examining the other occupants at the table.
I recognize the red head and the light blonde one from our encounter in USJ. The others at the table are the pink girl, a blonde boy with a black bolt like streak, and a boy with straight dark hair.
I took the seat at the end of the table and across from the blonde. "I see you got rid of him pretty fast." I noted as I picked up the chopsticks in front of my plate.
Fuka nodded, her long hair bouncing at her energetic movement. "Yep. He's fast, but the wind is always faster~!" She grinned. A smirk stretched across my face at her words.
"You're gonna get in trouble if you keep running away from him." The boy with black hair warned her. The grin on her face didn't falter. "It's fine!"
The others at the table sweat dropped. "Um, how did you guys transfer in again?" The blonde across from me asked.
I merely shrugged and began to eat my rice. "It was either go to school here or go back to juvie."
"Back to juvie?" He asked wearily.
Fuka laughed loudly. "Oh, it's fine! Yeah, we got in trouble tracking a certain Villain here and those were our only options."
Our explanation, or lack of, didn't really help. Didn't matter to me. It's none of their freaking business.
"What is that damn rat thinking! Making delinquents come into the Hero Course." The ash blonde boy demanded angrily.
I narrowed my eyes on the boy, I think his name was Bakugan? "Well I'm not really a delinquent per say. I've never been to juvie." Fuka said thoughtfully.
The vein in Bakugan's head began to throb. "That's not the point you idiot!" He roared.
Fuka looked at him curiously before grinning. "You kind of look like a hedgehog." He slammed his hands onto the lunch table. "Huh?! What did you just call me you knew extra!"
Extra? What ?
Fuka giggled madly. "Wow! You get mad real quick! I thought so in USJ but seeing it up close just makes it funnier" Bakugan began to growl and was prepared to lunge when the redhead, Kijima(?), and the black haired boy held him back.
"Calm down Bakugo!" Kijima spoke, holding him around his waist tight.
His name's Bakugo? No that can't be right. I was so sure it was Bakugan. "Eh? So lively. I think we're all going to be great friends!" Fuka exclaimed.
"Like hell we are!"
"We should make friendship bracelets!" Fuka squealed in delight. I winced a bit at that. "Don't worry Bakugan. I hid her crafts kit." He snapped his head in my direction.
"My name's Bakugo!"
I rubbed my ears. "Do you ever not shout?" We shot lightning glares at one another, making those around us uncomfortable.
Fuka giggled, not bothered by the hostility. "I'll make us all matching ones by next week!"
Bakugo shouted something unintelligible to which she laughed off. A sigh escaped me and I glared at my bowl of rice.
This is gonna be a pain.
