Chapter Eighteen Point Five: Grian
I'm sitting here in class, and we're talking about something weird and gross in science, so I'm just gonna write over here before I throw up.
Another half chapter! Woo!
AKA I'm too lazy to do a full one!
The events in this chapter are kinda there so you... I guess understand Doc a bit better? This is me explaining his character, and believe it or not, everything he says/does is justified, in my opinion. You'll see.
WC: ~420
Enjoy!
"What happened?" Doc's voice was cold. Grian slipped behind a corner, not wanting to be seen. He didn't want to have to deal with someone who just practically radiated frigid energy.
"Zombies," Mumbo mumbled. "There's a spawner." Grian raised an eyebrow. That explained it.
"Where? I'll light it up," Doc offered. Grian blinked. Maybe Doc wasn't as bad as he thought? Something about his voice didn't seem as cold now...
"Thanks, Doc," Mumbo's voice was warm. "What are you doing down here? Caving?"
"No, I'm hunting for food," Doc's words had sarcasm dumped on them, making Mumbo laugh.
"Actually, speaking of food," Doc continued. "Here."
"Where'd you find this?" Mumbo asked, though his words were muffled.
"Mineshaft," Doc replied. "Where's the Watcher?" Grian blinked at the sudden change of topic, then realized what they were talking about.
Not what.
Who.
And that who was Grian.
"G-Grian?" Mumbo stuttered, taken off guard. "Uh, he's... around. Somewhere." Doc sighed.
"Look, Mumbo, we really can't trust him," Doc's voice was soft. Gently. As if he's trying to help.
"And why do you say that?" Now it was Mumbo who sounded cold.
"He's a Watcher," Doc started.
"And you're a creeper," Mumbo snapped.
"There's a difference," Doc growled after a moment. "Watchers kill-"
"So do creepers!" Mumbo sounded desperate. "Creepers get the highest kill count over any other mob!"
"Let me finish," Doc yelled. "Watchers kill servers, Mumbo."
"Creepers kill more than Watchers. And we still trust you-"
"AT LEAST WHEN A CREEPER KILLS, THE PLAYER RESPAWNS!"
Shocked silence.
"Doc- I-" Mumbo tried.
"Save it," Doc flashed. "They took all of them and I'm the only one left and they've taken more than just them. They've taken and killed so many of us and you're sitting here helping one of them. How do you know he wasn't one of the Watchers who took them?"
Grian had heard enough.
He couldn't hear more.
The Watcher turned away from the conversation and ran.
Once he was a good distance away, Grian slumped against the stone walls and buried his head in his hands. The conversation wouldn't have been so bad if it weren't for one fact.
Doc is right.
Grian remembered the one he had taken in full detail.
Back then, he didn't know what he was doing.
Following orders.
Not thinking for himself.
Despite the horrific realization that he had made, Grian sat up a bit straighter as a thought struck him.
I know exactly what I need to do.
Doc doesn't seem so bad now, does he?
:)
