Chapter 9

"Feels good to be home," Lillie yawned. (Y/n) flashed her a smile of agreement as she stood on the familiar area of Aether Foundation's dock. She was a little sleepy after waking up so early, but she was eager to get off of the boat.

"Where did Sil- I mean Scarlett and Gladion go?" she asked Lillie. The mysterious Kantonian boy had revealed to her that his real name was Silver only because Gladion had asked him to. (Y/n) was more surprised by the fact that he already got along with Gladion. Even Lillie noticed how the two easily coexisted as if they had know each other for a while. It was impressive to say the least.

"You can just call me Silver." (Y/n) flinched at hearing him so closeby. "Ah, sorry." His stealth still scared her, but she was comfortable with his presence now that she had gotten used to him. A little over a week on the boat had allowed her to do so.

"No, it's fine. I just didn't notice you there," (y/n) said as she turned to face him. His bag was on his back and he was ready to go with her to Mele Mele Island. Gladion wasn't far behind him making it seem as if he was going to accompany them. Wait...was he?

After the yacht had been unloaded, Yana made a call to the president who personally appeared to greet Silver. She had asked to meet with him privately, which Yana had been against, but no one could defy Lusamine's orders. (Y/n) wasn't sure what they had discussed, but in the end, Lusamine said that she thought it would be best for Silver to remain in Alola. The only condition was that he couldn't stay at Aether Paradise, which she easily made up for by suggesting that he ask one of the professors for help.

That brought them to where they were now, getting ready to get back on yet another boat. However, (y/n) knew that this ride wouldn't last long. Soon she would be back on Mele Mele, the island she currently called home, where she could deal with the city's recent power loss, greet Hau after such a long trip, reunite with one of her cherished pokemon, and ask Professor Kukui if he would allow Silver to stay in his loft until something better was worked out.

"Send Hau my regards. I'd go with you guys, but I'm just so tired. Besides, Nebby has been wanting to go for a walk," Lillie said. Nebby, the legendary Solgaleo, was probably itching to be released from its pokéball.

"I'll be back before sundown," Gladion told her. Afterall, they had quite a bit of work waiting for them on Mele Mele Island. The group said their temporary goodbyes and parted ways.

The boatride to Mele Mele was uneventful and unpleasantly quiet. Even when they reached the shore, the waves were the only sound they could hear. The city was nothing more than a ghost town.

"It's so dark..." Silver spoke up. They had set foot onto the wooden path leading up to Hau'oli City. The sun wasn't due to rise for another hour leaving the powerless city in the complete dark.

"Should I handle this first?" (y/n) wondered. It was the reason she had been called back afterall.

"It would probably be best if you did. Do you know the way to the city's main source of power?" Gladion said.

"Unfortunately, yes. This isn't the first time it's attacked Hau'oli."

Silver gave them a confused look. "It? Something attacked the city?"

(Y/n) only gave a simple nod and gestured for the boy's to follow. Not a single soul was out and about. If it weren't for the current time and the fact that people were likely fearful of the attacker, (y/n) might have found that strange.

As they neared their destination, (y/n) noticed a set of claw marks on one of the building's concrete walls. The trio kept their thoughts to themselves, but the deep scratches definitely left them rattled. "Here it is." They stopped in front of a building with a hole in the wall. Even from outside, they could see that the power generator wasn't damaged at all. "Not a single dent as usual. Whatever this thing is at least has the decency to make things easy to fix," (y/n) mumbled.

"It must be an electric type. Looks like the only thing missing is the electricity," Silver observed.

"Exactly. That's what we thought too. It's been taking down our cameras before attacking, so we never get a good look at it. I think it's more likely a pokémon than an ultrabeast, but (y/n) says that it has to somehow be an ultrabeast since it can easily get from one island to the next within minutes. We've had two consecutive attacks on separate islands before," Gladion explained. He and Silver watched (y/n) duck into the building and approach the large generator.

"Might want to cover your eyes or look away," she warned. She wasn't sure if the boys heeded her warning. With a quick set of deep breaths, she placed her hands onto the generator and felt for any traces of electricity. It was sucked dry just like last time and wasn't creating any power as it was intended to do. That was the strangest part of their mystery, but all it took was a little jump start to get it working again.

Without wasting another second, (y/n) turned up her own voltage without caring how high it got. So long as the machine caught enough charge, it shouldn't overload. Zigzags of yellow, white, and occasionally blue blasted across the area around her hands. She heard the generator rev back to life and knew that her attempt was successful. "Phew," she pulled her hands away from the machine and exited the hole in the wall. "First try. I'm surprised."

She was met with Silver's amazed stare. It brought a smile to her face that she couldn't even try to hide. She could have sworn she saw Gladion roll his eyes, but she didn't care.

"That's an amazing ability," Silver praised, just barely able to speak over his shock.

The city's lights began to snap back on in groups. "That should work for now. Let's just hope it doesn't come back any time soon."

Perhaps she jinxed them or maybe the creature in question was just waiting for her to restore the power. Regardless, (y/n) immediately detected an ion change in the atmosphere. It was so obvious that it caused Silver's and Gladion's hair to stand on end. Even she was affected, and they soon heard the crackle of what seemed like thunder landing nearby. Dust was sent up around the area, leaving them blinded to the newcomers appearance.

"(Y/n)!" Both Silver and Gladion called out to her. She found them, taking hold of Gladion's outstretched hand while Silver grabbed her shoulder. As the dust cleared, they saw what was responsible for the outages beginning to approach them with caution.

"I was right," Gladion had the audacity to whisper even as the pokémon snarled at them.

"It's hurt," Silver realized, letting (y/n)'s shoulder go and stepping around her. The pokémon's snarls worsened, stopping Silver from getting any closer.

"Are you insane?!" Gladion hissed at him. (Y/n) wouldn't exactly say the same thing, but she did think his actions were reckless.

"Hurt pokémon will turn vicious if they stay injured," Silver spoke. He slowly let his bag slip from his shoulders which the pokémon didn't like. It made no move to stop him, however, letting him carefully swing in front of him. "As long as we don't make any sudden moves, we should be okay...maybe." He managed to pull free three sitrus berries from his bag, gifts from Lusamine as a sort of welcome to Alola.

"Silver, I swear-" Gladion was saying, but the pokémon launched itself forward at Silver. He yelped as the pokémon tackled him to the ground, but it didn't attack him. Just as quickly as it had sprang forward, it took the sitrus berries and ran off into morning darkness.

"Silver! Are you okay?!" (Y/n) didn't hesitate to help the boy back up, but he was too shaken to stand up.

"Mewtwo didn't stop it," Silver muttered to himself in realization.

"Mewtwo? What?" (Y/n) didn't understand, but Gladion seemed to have an idea of who Silver was referring to.

"Is that the friend of yours that you were telling me about?" Gladion asked. Silver merely nodded, still staring after the place where the pokémon had just left.

"We can worry about that later. Right now, we need to get out of here in case it decides to come back. I've never seen a pokémon like it before." The best way that she could describe it was a lightning version of Lucario. Whatever it was, she didn't want to see it again any time soon.
