Chapter 23
When (y/n) returned with Hau, Silver couldn't stand his thoughts any longer. He needed to speak with her as soon as possible. She had already started talking to Moon and Lillie, but there was no way Silver could wait for another opportunity.
"(Y/n)," he immediately caught her attention by lightly taking hold of her arm. "I need to talk to you. It's really important." Silver ignored the stare he got from Gladion and the blinks of confusion he got from Lillie and Moon. Hau was busy eating a malasada and hadn't really noticed the slight commotion among the group of friends.
"Okay, no problem. I'll be back guys," she said without even asking any questions. Silver could suddenly feel the harsh gazes of others suddenly burning into his very being. He couldn't tell from where, but he did know why. He was taking away their opportunity to speak to the Wahine Uila, so of course they would feel jealous. Silver briefly locked eyes with Gladion who merely narrowed his eyes in warning, but otherwise gave no other form of objection. Then, just like that, they were leaving the festival. Silver guided (y/n) through the crowd, and they left Iki Town rather quickly. She still hadn't asked anything, and it was beginning to worry him.
It wasn't until they were nearing Hau'oli Outskirts that she finally spoke. "Silver, are you okay?" She stopped him. "You're taking us to the beach again. Did I do something wrong?" She had taken notice over the past month or so that he went there whenever he was upset.
"No, I just wanted somewhere private to talk to you. Plus, we would still be able to see the fireworks from the beach, wouldn't we?" Silver casted his gaze aside. "We can go back, but I really do need to talk to you." He refused to back down on the matter.
(Y/n) took a quick glance around them. "If you want, we can talk on the way there. Everyone pretty much went to the festival, so there's no one around to hear us."
Silver silently agreed, but he wasn't sure where he should start. "While you were asleep, Mewtwo came back," he decided to say. (Y/n) stopped in her tracks. She wasn't fond of the pokémon despite Silver's attempt to persuade her that he wasn't usually violent. "He didn't do anything this time. He left, actually. For good..."
"Oh," (y/n) began to walk with him again. "Did you two fight again? Are you alright?" She may not have liked Mewtwo, but she did know that Silver was very close to him.
"He sort of apologized and...told me some things that I hadn't known before." Silver was still unsure how he felt about Mewtwo initially intending to end his life. "He offered to take away all of the memories that caused me pain. It sounded like a good idea."
"You let him do it?" (Y/n) sounded concerned. Silver figured that she would react that way.
"Not entirely, no. If I had let him do that, then I wouldn't have had a reason to come here. I might not see you the same way as I do now. That would be the same as forgetting you because I met you after all of that stuff happened. It sort of led me here." Silver scratched his head. "If that even makes any sense."
"Is that what you really believe?" She seemed as if she had her doubts, but she didn't express them.
"For now, yes. That's what I want to believe."
"So what exactly did he take? You said not exactly..."
Silver looked ahead of them seeing that they were nearing the professor's lab. The sun was starting to slowly disappear on the ocean's horizon. "I asked him to take away the memory of my near death drowning. Just that part. I'm only guessing, but I don't think I'm afraid of water anymore. I tried to think of a moment where I would be fighting for air beneath the surface of an underground lake, but I can't even imagine how that would feel. I can't recall what it's like at all." Silver turned to (y/n) who had stopped again. She stared at him for a moment, unsure of what to say.
"That's great news!" Tears lined her eyes, and she bit her lip to stop herself from fully crying. Silver could tell that they were tears of joy, but it still had him panicking. "I didn't know how I was going to help you with that when I have the same fear." Silver had almost forgotten about that. Maybe he should have asked Mewtwo to do the same for her, but he still didn't really know all of the details. There was actually so much more about her that he didn't know.
"I want to be with you," he suddenly spoke. (Y/n) promptly choked on the very air she breathed.
"Wait, didn't you just say yesterday that you-" she coughed, still tying to recover from her shock.
Silver moved to pat her back and calm her down. "I'm not taking back what I said. I really don't want to harm you in any way, so I do want to wait." He made sure to look her in the eyes. "Just...don't let anyone else get a chance before I do. Okay? I don't know how long I'm going to need to take, so I'm being selfish and asking you not to let anyone else have you until I can."
"You're...getting a little too close," (y/n) mumbled. He had leaned a bit closer to her and held his arm around her back to keep her from escaping, their faces just inches apart.
"I know. I'm trying to convince you." Mewtwo had advised that he pick up some of his old ways. Why not start now. "I'm probably going to regret this later." He flashed her a smirk before leaning towards her ear. "Is it working?" he said at a volume just enough to keep the depth of his voice without descending into a whisper.
(Y/n) scrambled away from him almost immediately. He noted that his hair briefly stood on end before she left his hold. Even her own hair floated for a moment from the temporary static that she had caused. "That's not fair! I was going to agree anyway, you didn't have to go that far!" (Y/n) didn't look at him, hiding her face in one of her hands. "Of course I'm going to wait. What kind of person would I be if I didn't?" She peeked at him. "I didn't know you could do that though," she quietly mumbled.
"Do what? This?" He shot another smirk at her when he was sure that she was looking.
"Stop it!! You're going to kill me!" she whined. He laughed at her reaction finding it amusing to say the least. Perhaps he should do it more often or just every now and then just because he could.
Boom! The sound had both of them looking to the skies. "Oh, they started already?"
"My colors! They actually turned out pretty nicely." (Y/n) shot him a prideful glance. "Can you tell what colors they are?" she asked. He could, at least partially. He could have sworn she was supposed to choose three different colors. Why where there two reds? "Red, Silver, and Scarlett. That's what I told them. The best they could do was bright red and dark red," (y/n) explained, seeing his confusion. Silver was at a loss for words while he stared at the color lit sky themed after none other than himself. "It's not my original idea. I copied after Hau. He does Lillie's colors every year."
"It's beautiful," Silver breathed although he realized that he was having to look up at a somewhat uncomfortable angle. "Hey, follow me." He gestured for (y/n) to go after him. She gave him a questioning glance when he took them to Professor Kukui's loft, which he was borrowing, but he opened the window and had them climb outside onto the roof. "We can see it better from up here." She sat down next to him just as a Pikachu shaped firework lit the sky in a bright silvery color.
"I was going to ask you to take us somewhere without any people to see these with me, but I didn't get the chance," (y/n) said. "You ended up taking me anyway." She leaned against his shoulder as they watched the rest of the festival fireworks show. After this day, they would have to go back to being normal friends with boundaries. Silver needed it to be that way so that he could figure himself out again, but for as long as this night lasted, he would act as though they were already more than just friends. He would pretend that all was well in the world and that (y/n) was already his very own.
The familiar colors grew scarce until the sky began to fill with green, yellow, and white. The pallet of Hau's choice was definitely an interesting combination. (Y/n) shifted from Silver's shoulder and leaned closer to his chest. "Silver," (y/n) broke their silence. "I think it's about time I tell you how I got my power."
