Chapter 21

"It's starting!" Lillie exclaimed as she dragged Moon towards the center of Iki Town. Silver, Gladion, and Hau followed them at their own pace. Until now, Silver hadn't know that (y/n) was given the choice to allow special guests front row seats to the show, so they wouldn't have to worry about not being able to see over the crowd.

"She was practicing for hours in the ruins. I hope she didn't burn herself out," Hau muttered.

"It only happens once a year. She probably just wanted to make sure that everything went well. Didn't you say that Tapu Koko had to leave?" Gladion briefly glanced around at the crowd. "They're expecting her to represent this entire island. It's not easy."

"Won't she be tired afterwards?" Silver mentioned. Every time she used her ability too much, she would need to recharge with rest to avoid harming herself. The event was only halfway finished. Silver couldn't imagine her forcing herself to stay awake through the rest of it especially knowing how easily she fell victim to fainting when she neglected the aftermath of her power. He had only seen this happen twice, but those two times were more than enough.

"She won't have to make an appearance again until they light the fireworks tonight, but thats assuming she gets past the dance ceremony. I'm sure she'll be fine." Hau gave a thumbs up and his signature smile.

Silver would have expressed more of his concerns, but he caught sight of (y/n) and lost his words. She was wearing the gifts of the people and an electric themed outfit that was different from the normal dancers that Silver had seen before. Her Pikachu and Togedemaru were with her, both of them wearing a necklace gifted by one of the islanders. Everyone grew quiet as a pokémon that looked similar to Tapu Koko appeared across from (y/n). "That must be Tapu Fini." The pokémon seemed far more regal than the energetic Tapu Koko.

The performance began with the rhythmic sound of drums. Mist began to gather at (y/n)'s feet as she took a stance against Tapu Fini. For a moment, all was still until (y/n) swiftly performed a low sweeping kick through the mist only to quickly rise back up with it spinning around her. Suddenly, the surrounding mist around her began to glow a light yellow. The effect quickly spread across the area making it seem almost like some sort of fantasy.

No one brought themselves to make any sort of noise in their reactions. (Y/n)'s hair stood on the ends as she began to find her way into the rhythm of the drums. With her danced the mist, jerking or flowing in whichever direction she went. As for how this was possible, Silver didn't quite understand, but he was captivated by what he saw. Everyone was.

(Y/n)'s hands suddenly sparked a blue flash of electricity that traveled quickly across the mist towards the crowd, but Togedemaru dashed across the arena and drew the spark towards herself. It was only then that Silver realized what exactly was going on. The mist was filled with electricity and (y/n) was controlling it with her ability, but doing things on this large of a scale must have been hard to keep control of. Pikachu and Togedemaru were there to ensure the crowd's safety should anything go wrong.

No one seemed concerned about being hurt, thus the performance continued as (y/n) began to sway to the drums and now the added sounds of other instruments. As the dance of sorts continued, the crowd began to express how impressed they were with cheers, whistles, and shouts. Silver could only stare for he was still stunned into silence by how much control (y/n) had over the electrified mist. Aside from the few times that Pikachu or Togedemaru had to redirect the current, the performance was perfect.

It finally came to a close as (y/n) fell into a faster rhythm that shaped the mist into a familiar shape, a Pikachu. With that, she came to a sudden perfectly timed halt along with the rest of the music. The mist dispersed and faded away, and the crowd erupted into cheers. Many of the spectators threw flowers at her to express their gratitude for the performance. Tapu Fini gave a slight nod of approval, to which (y/n) smiled. She gave a bow and left the stage as dancers began to enter the battle arena that now served as the stage for dancing.

Hau stood up to join them, briefly surprising Silver. (Y/n) returned to the seat that he had been in which was next to Lillie. She was too far away from him. With Gladion and Lillie separating them, Silver didn't think (y/n) would hear him over the crowd. She only watched the remaining performances, so Silver decided to do the same for the time being.

First there was Hau who put on a dance with some of the men from the village. After they were done, the women went next and danced alongside the pokémon chosen during the meeting. Finally there were the children who, although playful, still put on quite the show with their own pokémon and in sync movement. By the time the dances were over, it was late afternoon which meant that everyone could scatter around to enjoy the full festival again. Silver didn't go anywhere.

"Are you okay?" he spoke to (y/n), finally able to get to her after waiting for so long. She was leaning onto Lillie for support.

"I'm fine, just tired," she mumbled. Her eyes were growing heavy with sleep, and Silver worried that she might fall unconcious at any moment.

"Gladion, can you help me take her back to the ruins?" Lillie asked her brother. "She can get rest there. No one is allowed to go near it during the festival unless invited."

"I'll help," Silver offered. "She'll need someone to stay with her, right? You can come back to the event and let me stay behind. That way, you won't miss anything."

"But this is your first time attending. That wouldn't be fair to you," Lillie protested.

"He just wants to show his appreciation like the others, Lillie. As long as they come back for the fireworks, I'm sure it'll be fine," Hau spoke up, finally returning to the group.

Silver looked to Gladion to see if he had any problems with the idea, but saw no indication of the sort. "I promise she'll be safe," he said to Lillie. The girl didn't see any more reasons to turn down his offer, so she allowed Silver to help her guide (y/n) back to the Ruins of Conflict. Halfway there, Silver ended up carrying (y/n) on his back since she had begun to shift in and out of conciousness. He hated that she had driven herself this far even if it was for the good of the festival. He felt that she shouldn't have to sacrifice her health like this, but he kept those thoughts to himself.

"The fireworks start about thirty minutes after sundown. If she doesn't wake up before then, be sure that she at least gets to see them," Lillie instructed. "I'll bring back some snacks and drinks when I can. I can even leave Nebby with you if that will help."

Silver respectfully declined the offer thinking that the legendary pokémon's presence would probably just make him nervous. "Thank you, Lillie. I hope you enjoy the rest of the festival."

"I should be thanking you. You've been helping (y/n) a lot ever since coming here. I really appreciate it," Lillie smiled and waved at him before heading back towards the event. That essentially left Silver alone with (y/n) which he actually was quite grateful for. For some reason, Gladion's concerns came back to his mind and he again considered the questions that he had begun to ask himself at the time.

"(Y/n)? Are you awake?" He got no reply from her confirming that she had definately passed out. "I wish you wouldn't push yourself so hard," he quietly said to her. He navigated them into the far reaches of the ruins and brought her to the top of the alter at the back of the ruins. Silver carefully slipped her off his back and lay her head to rest on his lap. He didn't see how she could possibly rest in a place like this without pillows. The cold stone floors were already bad enough.

Knowing that (y/n) was fast asleep, Silver began to voice more of his thoughts. "I'm glad you chose to believe in me. The time I've spent in Alola with you has been fun. I hope it continues for as long as possible." He smiled to himself and looked down at (y/n).

"You're still choosing to place your trust in that human." Mewtwo's voice scared him half to death. "Don't bother. I am not here to do anything more than speak," the pokemon spoke before Silver could move.

"You're back," Silver said. He had always wondered where Mewtwo had gone off to. Though he had acted in anger the last time he saw Mewtwo, he meant every word of what he'd said.

"I left for but a brief moment, as much as I hate to admit that I even returned. I've intended to leave you several times before," Mewtwo appeared in front of him. "Do you know why it is that I saved you?"

Silver tilted his head in confusion. "You're the one that told me not to ask." Mewtwo's frown deepened.

"In truth, I had been waiting to end your life. You see, I once knew your father. He vanished before I could have my revenge which led me to finding you. I ploted your death more times than even I can remember and never could decide on one. In the end, all I did was watch you up until the moment that girl took my opportunity." Mewtwo looked away from him. Was it shame? Embarrassment? "Do not misunderstand. I still hate your father for everything he has done. You, however, are not that man. I made the choice to call you an acquaintance. You should be honored."

Silver would never know that Mewtwo took a liking to him very similar to the way any wild pokémon becomes fascinated with their new trainer. Mewtwo would never tell him of all the times he became worried for Silver's wellbeing nor the times he hunted down anyone who wronged the boy to give them a taste of their own medicine. He would certainly leave out the fact that he had been the reason Silver's original pokémon never awakened from their pokéballs. No one would never know that Mewtwo was actually just afraid of being replaced by the girl who had so easily offered her helping hand without any hidden deceit.

"Does that mean you're leaving me now?" Silver still considered Mewtwo to be someone he trusted despite what happened the last time they spoke. "You don't have to. (Y/n) will understand. I can convince Gladion myself, but Lillie and Hau won't have a pr-"

"You no longer need me." Mewtwo turned his back on him. "I do not belong in this place, but you do. You get attached to people far too easily,  it's quite revolting. It would benefit you to pick up some of your old ways." Silver caught the glance that Mewtwo threw back at him. "I will at least leave you with a parting gift. The memories of your past, I can erase all of it. I can get rid of every moment that has ever caused you pain or suffering."

Silver still was trying to accept the fact that Mewtwo was about to permanently leave him. He had always suspected the psychic pokémon to be lurking in the shadows near him. It had felt so natural to have Mewtwo watching his back, but now that wouldn't be so. "Will you come back?"

"That is a question that I don't have an answer to. Now quickly, make your choice. I do not intend to stall here any longer." Everything would vanish. All of his internal strife would be as if it was never there. Is that what he wanted? "Make your choice, Silver."
