Chapter 15
Lillie had only been calling to check on her. Apparently, she and Gladion had been left in charge of the Aether Foundation while their mother was away on a business trip. They had been pretty occupied with making sure everything had been done correctly, so they were unable to come back to check on (y/n) in person. Although Lusamine didn't think Lillie could handle the work, there was nothing stopping the girl from assisting her brother in their mother's absence.
"I don't see why you two can't just run the company together," (y/n) mused.
"Mother would never approve of that. She just wants me to live without a care in the world as her way of making up for what happened, but that's not what I want to do. It's okay though. We'll figure something out. How is Silver?"
"He's fine. I just left him and Hau in the malasada shop just now. When you get the chance to visit, I'll have a surprise for you. Or maybe we could just come to you. Oh, and Hau is in good spirits as usual. I haven't gotten the chance to ask him, but I think everything is going well with Hala." (Y/n) took a quick glance around at the darkening sky. "Hau and Silver are getting along pretty well. Silver seems to already be doing much better."
"I hope he'll be safe here. Whatever happened to him must have been awful," Lillie said, recalling the one time she saw Silver starring off in a depressed daze back on the boat. "Gladion said he's sorry by the way. I doubt he'd say it again, so I thought I'd relay the message."
"What happened between those two? They were literally best friends just yesterday," (y/n) wondered.
"Nothing important. Everyone was just worried about you," Lillie assured her. "Oh, but I've got to go. We have some paperwork to finalize. Gladion just finished his phone call with Moon, so he's already heading back to the office to get to work."
"He literally drops anything he's doing just for her, huh. He still hasn't told her, has he?"
"It's so hard not to tell her for him," Lillie confirmed. "We'll get him to do it someday."
"For sure," (y/n) laughed. "Thanks for checking on me Lillie. Don't stay up too late. You nor Gladion." Lillie exchanged a similar goodbye, ending their conversation. "Oh," (y/n) flinched when she saw that Silver was outside standing near the door waiting for her. "Didn't know you were there. How did it...hey, Silver?" He stared at her with heartbreak and a hint of possible anger. The emotions, she could tell, weren't directed at her. "You're kidding me. They didn't actually turn him down, did they?"
"My records are gone," he spoke. "Silver doesn't exist in this world and neither does Scarlett. They wiped everything clean. Birth certificate, pokésecurity number, all of it. Gone."
"What?" What did that even mean? Silver wouldn't get rid of his own false identity like that, right? "The international police," she realized. Now she was angry. If they couldn't catch him, they were making it to where he couldn't even establish himself anywhere else. At the very least, that meant they didn't know where he had gone, but this didn't quell her anger in the slightest.
"(Y/n), it's okay," he said rather calmly despite how hurt he was. He had quickly caught her shoulder to stop her from storming into the shop. His other arm shot out in front of her with the bags from the mall hanging from it. "Hau's already trying to talk to them. There's no need for you to go in there too." She turned to look him eyes full of fury, but instantly lost the unspoken battle the moment she saw the stormy look in his eyes. He was slowly losing the light in them that (y/n) had seen just moments ago. "Please," he added. "If you cause any trouble, it'll reflect badly on the island, won't it?"
Why did he have to be right? Couldn't he have just been wrong so she could do everything in her power to stop life from treating him so cruelly. He let her go, and she backed away from the door on her own to stand next to him. "I'm still going to keep my promise. There's got to be somewhere out there," (y/n) said moreso to herself than to Silver. "I don't care what it takes."
Hau appeared not a moment afterwards waving back at the person at the register with a smile on his face. (Y/n) didn't get the chance to ask him anything. "Let's go home," he said in a voice that couldn't have been his own. Hau? Angry? That couldn't be possible. He didn't look at them, and (y/n) knew that it would be unwise to say anything more about the matter. She and Silver followed behind, all of their moods ruined from that moment onward.
Being that the night had just settled in, there were no children to greet them on their way back. Their walk remained quiet and uncomfortable even though the breeze that wafted by was rather pleasant. "Hau," (y/n) only spoke because the boy was lost in thought and had passed her home. "This is my stop. Good night you two."
"Oh, yeah," he realized. Despite his mood, he managed a bright smile and waved at her. It was amazing how much of a ray of sunshine he could be even with a cloud looming over him. "Good night. Sleep well."
"Good night, and thank you," Silver added. Again, (y/n) watched the boys leave until they were out of sight, but this time she had done so from her front window rather than standing outside her door. Her Pikachu attempted to cheer her up, which worked at first, but the moment didn't last for very long. She gave her thanks to her faithful partner and decided to go to bed early. If she stayed awake any longer, she would only find herself feeding into bitterness. Sleep came to her with ease, and so did an unusual dream. It wasn't uncommon for her to have them. Tapu Koko sometimes filtered them to her, but they didn't occur as often as most people got them.
She was sitting on the beach not minding the way that the waves would crash onto shore just out of reach of her. The sun was setting, and the winguls were flying low to the waters. It wasn't very cool despite the sun disappearing, so (y/n) assumed that it must have been late autumn as it was now. There were really only two distinguishable seasons in Alola. Summer and Fall.
Everything would have been perfect if Silver hadn't been there. He himself wasn't the problem. Instead it was the fact that he was sitting next to her with his head down and knees pulled to his chest. She didn't have to see his face to know that he was upset. His form shook, and he paid no attention to the beautiful surroundings.
"Silver?" (Y/n) reached out to touch him, but he didn't register the action. What did this all mean? Why was Silver of all people suddenly in her dreams? She couldn't make sense of it even as the dream began to change. Dark clouds began to cover the sky bringing heavy rain with them. Still, Silver didn't move, and now (y/n) couldn't either.
"I can't..." The voice was quiet but familiar. "I just can't do it," he repeated.
"Silver??" (Y/n) found that she couldn't speak. She couldn't stop anything that was going on.
"Everything always turns out this way." Thunder sounded overhead and (y/n) jolted awake. The rain was still there attacking her bedroom window and a flash of lightning had her senses focusing. Tapu Koko never showed her dreams without having a reason. Something had to be wrong.
With a sense of urgency, (y/n) lept out of her bed and quickly threw on clothes decent enough to go outside in. The weather went unaccounted for as soon as she saw Tapu Koko at her front window just outside her home. "Koko?" She could just barely hear herself over the howling winds. The island guardian didn't give her time to ask any more questions. He ascended from the ground and flew off into the sky high enough for her to see him but too far to even try reaching. When he paused there waiting for her, she knew that she needed to follow.
Her unease grew as she began to dash towards the direction that Tapu Koko was leading her. Though it was raining pretty heavily, she was able to find her way without slipping for the dirt hadn't yet turned into mud. At first (y/n) thought she was being led to Moon's home since it was in the same direction, but Moon was hardly ever there due to her duties as Champion. As she raced to Hau'oli's Outskirts, she remembered that the professor's research lab was located not far from Moon's home near the beach. That's exactly where Tapu Koko was leading her, and she figured it out for sure when her pokémon hovered around the building, no longer moving to guide her.
By now she was drenched in rainwater, and the lighting was making her worry. It was rare, but sometimes her power served as an attraction for the natural force of electricity making her a living lighting rod of sorts. What could have been the reason for her being called out here in the middle of the night during a such a storm anyway?
As she turned the corner to find the door to the building, she could have sworn she saw red and froze. She did see red. Silver's hair blowing violently in the wind to be precise. He stood within the ocean, too far away from the shore and unaware that (y/n) was even there. Even at this distance she could see that he was slowly making his way deeper into the sea without the intention of going back. Already, the water had reached just above his knees, the waves crashing against his chest when the tide came in.
"Silver!!" She was already running before she even called him. He whipped around in horror to see that she was there and stayed there frozen in place. Silver was absolutely terrified. She could see it without having to look him in the eyes. "No! Don't you dare!!" she screamed at him when he turned back towards the sea. Even if he had tried anything, Tapu Koko didn't let him take another step forward. The boy yelped in surprise as he was plucked from the waters and brought to (y/n) who was halfway across the beach.
A clap of thunder threw (y/n) into more panic, but it was really just the sound that startled her because of the situation. Tapu Koko dropped Silver to the sand next to her, and she wasted no time in landing on her knees to tackle him into a hug.
"Let me go," Silver whimpered, his voice nearly drowned out by the sound of the weather. "I don't deserve to be here. I should have drowned."
"No! I'm not letting you go. I'm never letting you out of my sight. I'm not leaving you, ever! Do you hear me?! I'm not going anywhere and neither are you! Don't you ever scare me like that ever again!" She hugged him tighter, unsure of whether it was rainwater or tears that stung her eyes. He was shivering and too tired to escape her hold.
"You don't unde-" Silver was cut off when (y/n) pushed him down into the sand.
"No, you listen to me!" It probably wasn't the best action to take, but she was upset, angry even. "I'm not going to sit by and let you give up on yourself like that, so don't you dare!" She cried into his chest, shaking in fear. "Don't you ever dare..." Tapu Koko stood over them in an attempt to act as a shield from the rain. It wasn't very effective but it was better than nothing. "Promise me that you won't ever," she tried to say through her tears. Silver was silent. Although, he didn't answer, (y/n) didn't bother to ask again. Instead, she pulled herself together and got up, holding a hand out to Silver. "Let's just go home. Please, just come home."
He took (y/n)'s hand and let her help him get to his feet, but she didn't let him go. She refused to. Not even when they had trudged all the way back to her house in Iki Town. She kept her hand firmly secured in his own hand until she had closed and locked the door behind them and pulled him to sit on the couch. Silver remained there quietly while (y/n) went to retrieve towels and the few blankets she owned.
Not a word was spoken between them as she cleaned the sand from his hair before drying it as best as she could. He didn't say anything when she led him to the bathroom to change into old clothes that Gladion and Hau had left at her home in the past. The silence remained even when he returned to find her waiting on the couch in dry clothes herself. He sat by her and she promptly draped a blanket over the both of them, still not saying a word. And it remained that way even as (y/n) fell asleep while trying to watch over Silver who ended up falling asleep against her shoulder in return.

I know this looks bad. It looks really really bad. It's for plot relevance and realistic effect, I swear. Just my attempt to show that people aren't perfect and sometimes act on their emotions. Anyways...until next time you amazing readers!
